Krauthammer on the Campaign Against FNC

Posted by Van Helsing at October 23, 2009 10:00 AM

It appears even the MSM realizes that in an authoritarian state of the kind Obama has been working to impose, there is no role for a free press. Attempts by White House goons to delegitimize Fox News for running unflattering coverage by locking it out of a news pool blew up in its face when other news services had the integrity — or the survival instinct — not to play along. Voice of sanity Charles Krauthammer comments on the campaign against Fox:

The White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is "opinion journalism masquerading as news."
Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox "not really a news station." And chief of staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to "be led (by) and following Fox."
Meaning? If Fox runs a story critical of the administration — from exposing White House czar Van Jones as a loony 9/11 "truther" to exhaustively examining the mathematical chicanery and hidden loopholes in proposed health care legislation — the other news organizations should think twice before following the lead.
The signal to corporations is equally clear: You might have dealings with a federal behemoth that not only disburses more than $3 trillion every year but is extending its reach ever deeper into private industry — finance, autos, soon health care and energy. Think twice before you run an ad on Fox.

Comrade Obama has learned from fellow racists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson that there is almost no limit to the cowardice of politically correct corporate America. Whisper the word "racism" and they will shell out cash by the tens of $millions. Executive yellowbellies can also be intimidated into pulling their advertising.

Fortunately, other news outfits have chosen not to be bullied.

At first, there was little reaction from other media. Then on Thursday, the administration tried to make them complicit in an actual boycott of Fox. The Treasury Department made available Ken Feinberg, the executive pay czar, for interviews with the White House "pool" news organizations — except Fox. The other networks admirably refused, saying they would not interview Feinberg unless Fox was permitted to as well. The administration backed down.
This was an important defeat because there's a principle at stake here. While government can and should debate and criticize opposition voices, the current White House goes beyond that. It wants to delegitimize any significant dissent. The objective is no secret. White House aides openly told Politico that they're engaged in a deliberate campaign to marginalize and ostracize recalcitrants, from Fox to health insurers to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The Obamination Administration is modeling itself on Nixon, when a much better example would be the great James Madison, who understood that competing fractions keep tyranny at bay.

Factions should compete, but also recognize the legitimacy of other factions and, indeed, their necessity for a vigorous self-regulating democracy. Seeking to deliberately undermine, delegitimize and destroy is not Madisonian. It is Nixonian.

To be fair, how can you expect a red diaper baby like Obama — steeped in leftist ideology from his earliest memories — to grasp a concept like fair competition? To moonbats, there is only opposition, which you deal with by crushing it — "by any means necessary," to quote one of Chairman Zero's most formative heroes.

Fair & balanced coverage.

On tips from LouieLouie, nancz, BURNING HOT, and Chad.

Comments

On a related note, BigGovernment.com just published an email exemplifying exactly what is wrong with the lapdog "journalists" (and I use that term loosely).

Moonbat journalist throws unhinged tantrum over press release, calling Republicans "mentally ill" and accusing them of wanting to "get him [Obama] killed"

Attitudes like this are so far over the line of civil disagreement. This journalist denies the need for integrity in the media if, in their opinion, the end justifies the means.
Furthermore, he launches a viscous attack against anyone who disagrees with the President, calling them all mentally ill and hopeful of violence.

Health care is a topic of political disagreement. The overwhelming number of us conservatives are engaging in civil disagreement, by simply stating positions based on rational facts, and wish no harm upon the President.

Journalists like this are why accountability has disappeared from government.

declaring Fox "not a news organization" is just the first step to declaring me "not a person"

just think where this can lead for the Anointed One - to many pesky republicans voting ?? - declare them "not citizens" and win reelection by 100% of the votes......

Yes... because since we don't want government intrusion into our lives and we want the Constitution applied, we want Obama killed

Posted by: Jay B at October 23, 2009 10:57 AM

Blue, that's kind of scary to think of, even scarier to realise it is not too far away. They deligitimate dissent and opposition instead of having a debate, that's not very far from declaring opposition "Non citizen", all companies not supporting Hussein to be "Non american" (don't they do this already?)

Posted by: Jay B at October 23, 2009 11:01 AM

Didn't Bush do the same thing to MSNBC and Helen Thomas? You weren't whining then.

Posted by: Anonymous at October 23, 2009 11:02 AM

From Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

Main Entry: fas·cism
Pronunciation: \ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi-\
Function: noun
1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Got that? "stands for a centralized autocratic government, severe economic and social regimentation, and FORCIBLE SUPPRESSION OF OPPOSITION!!!!!!!!!, with a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control."

Now trolls. Explain to me how obama is not a fascist. I totally expect you'll simply resort to name calling and attempt to change the subject.

Posted by: man of few words at October 23, 2009 11:06 AM

I can't wait for Obama to develop a special sign or gesture, Hitler style. Probably some sort of raised fist, the left one, of course.

In any other country [Fox News] would be shot as traitors!

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 23, 2009 11:33 AM

Hey gallstone, by any other country, you mean the old USSR, Red China, North Korea, East Germany, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, etc?
In any sane country, obama and his ilk would be shot as traitors.

Posted by: man of few words at October 23, 2009 11:44 AM

Seems to me Wellstone's comment shows the left are fascists. To shoot Fox News as traitors would be one way to forcibly suppress them just like the definition says.

Posted by: Floyd at October 23, 2009 11:48 AM

Cnn and Fox news both work for obama listen to savage nation, its all BS And its about control of the air ways.

Posted by: Fred Dawes at October 23, 2009 11:52 AM

Finally, some of the half-witted scribblings from BO's academic record are leaking out. The BO administration has allowed a loyal "journalist" to see a few paragraphs, among which:

“… the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy.”

The petulance is second only to the Marxism in:

"so-called Founders"...or the so-called "white devils".
"the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned"...a cause BO has lit into.
"the Constitution fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."...a permanent slave mentality.

Hostility to the Constitution openly persists in what now passes for a "president".

Typical right wing slop, I didn't make that statement. Again, you guys whine about honest debate, then one of proves the points Andy, Aqua,Lao, and myself always. Funny, I have an email from Helsing that actually agrees with me.

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 23, 2009 12:01 PM

Personally, I assign little nobility or self-sacrifice to the other members of the media who balked at the exclusion of Fox from the interview. It was a chance for them to grand-stand a little, pound their chests and say, "SEE!! We really are fair and balanced, too!!"

Horse crap. They would have been laughed out of Washington had they not 'stood up' to the stalinesque morons in the White House. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out it was planned all along.

The Lame Stream Media sold its soul to the devil years ago. Not just this past election. We're talking decades ago. To think they would stand up for a competitor as a matter of conscience, especially one they HATE, is preposterous.

There are two possibiities. Two only --

1) They knew Fox would make them look the fools and drooling obama acolytes they are if they didn't take a stand, or --

2) It was a put-on from the get.

Posted by: Uncle Rick at October 23, 2009 12:24 PM

Krauthammer would be ideal to play Dr. Strangelove if they ever remade that movie. Which they better never do since its a classic not to be messed with! I would say Henry Kissinger would be the first choice, but he looks like hes barely alive and would probably fall asleep during production.

I think the massive, soul crushing guilt from murdering your innocent, defenseless, unborn child is taking a toll on your mental stability.

Posted by: SK at October 23, 2009 12:45 PM

Sk, and that has what to do with a debate about Fox? It's funny in the midst of debate about Fox some of you resort to putting words in people's mouths...no wonder you like Fox. You follow their lead on anything. I said before, debating with some of you is like debating Beavis and Butthead.

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 23, 2009 12:52 PM

Just casting a wild aspersion like you did when you claimed people who work for Fox News should be shot.

Posted by: SK at October 23, 2009 12:54 PM

But, hey. If you say you didn't say that then your word is sterling as far as I am concerned.

I mean, when you can't accept the word of a baby killing, weak willed, dickless, prevaricating Marxist piece of filth like you then who CAN you trust?

The kind of man who would murder a child instead of taking care of the baby like a real man, a human being would HAS to be trustworthy...

Posted by: SK at October 23, 2009 1:07 PM

Yet, it was likely you who made the comment about "Fox News should be shot." under my name. Again, many you ask for debate, but take to childish tactics. Care to explain that SK? Most of you prefer an echo chamber of neo-cons with the "walk-in closet" of mindless knuckle dragging. Fox's war on the White House began in January, so this fight was picked. If any of you wish to debate that, great! If not sit down and shut up and make way for your friends who can debate, like Helsing, like Judith, or Dave (who happens to have disappeared.) Helsing put together an effective site for conservatives to debate, have a little fun etc. Yet folks like SK want to muddy it with "one line wonders" and screen name theft.

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 23, 2009 1:11 PM

Trolls always come here and try to lay down the rules.

Klebba, go to your own little blogspeck and tell people there to "sit down and shut up."

Oops, nobody there to tell anything to.

Gee, I wonder why.

No.

according to Dana Perino they did. And how was it the Helen was fired from AP?

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 23, 2009 2:06 PM

Not a news organization? That's funny. FNC broke the Van Jones and ACORN stories while the NYT was still collectively playing with itself.

So if FNC isn't a news organization, why did the NYT follow their lead?

Why did Van Jones resign?

Why did ACORN fire employees appearing on the videos?

Why did the Democrat-controlled Congress cut off funding to ACORN?

The answer, in all cases: FNC had broken a significant news story that the other media outlets were trying (desperately) to bury, but ultimately could not.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 23, 2009 2:09 PM

Right on Point, Jay. The WH contradicts itself completely here... sure, not a news organisation, yet we take seriously everything they report!

Second, are you seriously suggesting that Bush had any influence whatsoever over the hiring and firing practices of the AP? Stupidest comment you've ever made.

Liberals are such crybabies.

As has been said many times here - and it deserves repeating - Silly liberals believe that ANYTHING they don't agree with MUST BE BANNED!

That includes:

REAL News
Free Speech
Guns
Cars
Books
The Bible
REAL Science
The military
National Borders
National Sovereignty
The Flag
Secret ballots
Capitalism
Liberty
Private schools
Tax exemptions for Christian churches
Christmas
Columbus Day
Memorial Day
Veterans Day
Independence Day
The Founding FATHERS
Western Expansion
Toilet paper
Easter
Prayer
Big juicy steaks
Fur
Leather
Choice
Thinking
Helping your neighbor
Growing your own food and sharing it
Garage sales
The English language
Fishing
Hunting
Spanking our kids butts when they screw up
Red marks on school papers
Winning at anything
Achieving
Being better
EARNING a REAL living
Having an opinion
Discussing our opinions
Choosing our own doctors
Locking up the bad guy even when he isn't white
Living better than "Lamar" because I earn more
Sweat

Believe me - I could go on.

I don't mind Obama meeting behind closed doors with Olbergirl. I bet Oblergirl gave him a blow job. But I don't care. Bush met with all of the popular radio talk-show hosts. The reason Obama got a blowjob from Obergirl is because there ARE NO popular liberal radio talk-show hosts. (In fact - Olbergirl has fewer watchers than any opinion show on TV and about 0.001% of the number of Rush's listeners). Bush was meeting with people who actually had a voice with the majority. Obama can meet with and take advise from anyone the lying son-of-a-bitch wants. But it is MY right not to like it.

Hey liberals: Eat Me. You just can't stand an opposing opinion. It eats you alive that me and people like me rightly believe you as fools.

That's a personal problem.

You can have any opinion you want - and you can stand on top of a freaking mountain and SCREAM it for all I care. I don't have to listen.

But you are unable to take the same "I don't have to listen" stance. That's because you are loser crybaby fascist pigs.

Try this, liberal fools; Eat two cat turds and if you don't feel better in the morning, call me and I'll prescribe something stronger.

Damned worthless thieving idiots - want everything for free - no working for it. F*ck you.

And that's my rant for tonight. Again - for you silly liberal trolls who don't like my opinion - call 1-800-EAT-SHIT.

Stupid bastards.

Well Jimbo, I went through your list. Now I confess to being left of "liberal" so maybe that disqualifies me somehow but, I personally use, accept, anknowledge and have not banned everything in your list except:

"Spanking our kids butts when they screw up"

I've raised three kids, all of whom are well educated, well adjusted, good people. I never spanked to cause pain. I gave them a swat on the butt to get them moving sometimes but that was not a "spanking".

I well believe you could go on...and on, and on, and on and still be woefully wrong about your utterly absurd and silly preconceptions.

You don't like Rachel Maddow? Hey, no worries. Your lack of like is particularly bitter, but feel free to form your own opinions.

Knowing people like you, believe me to be a fool causes me no end of amusement. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now if you had demonstrated some intelligence instead of concocting a transparently stupid and misinformed list, that might cause me to pause.

I know you will plug your ears and sing "La, La, La" when people like me demonstrate our own free speech. It explains perfectly why you remain ignorant.

I CHOOSE to listen to and respond to your drivel and it's so easy, I haven't even had my morning coffee to help focus my thoughts.

There are some on your side who DO think, who CAN present an argument that reflects well on both them and their politics. Those folks are fun to debate and from them, I can often learn something I hadn't considered. As for you, why not add ice cream to your list? It makes as much sense as everything else.

The best our trolls can do to back up their assertion that "Bush did it too!" is to say Bush had an open and above-board meeting with a few Rightwing talk-show hosts and that is the equivalent of Obama attempting to delegitimize Fox News and to ban Fox News from the White House Press Pool.

Posted by: Kevin R. at October 24, 2009 9:34 AM

The same way Obama had an open and above board meeting with a few left-leaning hosts which the right has whined about.

Posted by: Anonymous at October 24, 2009 10:08 AM

The point is you guys did not complain when Bush had right-wing opinion hosts to the White House. Fox began this war, not the White House. Since January 20th he has been called a racist, Mao,a communist,a Nazi,a socialist, Lenin, Stalin,Hitler,a far left radical,Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright. I am sure I left a few out. They are not a news corp, they are an outlet for Ailes to spew his agenda. You have to remember Ailes worked for Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Giuliani. "Fair and Balanced" is Fox's fraud.

To the left half (appropriate) of the bell curve who missed the point: Bush never attacked the Red-infested media the way Obama is now attacking the only media outlet that isn't Red-infested. Even the NYT has condemned Obama contemptible action.

That's the point. Nothing to do with who does or doesn't visit the White House.

~ Posted by: Too stupid to know who I am so I post as Anonymous at October 24, 2009 10:17 AM

The point is, this thread has nothing to do with Bush or Obama talking to opinion hosts. This thread has to do with the Obama administration targeting a News organization as an enemy because it has reported things the Obama administration doesn't want known.

The trolls do everything they can to deflect the topic and they even do their best to continue the administration's political war against anyone that questions it.

Posted by: Kevin R. at October 24, 2009 11:39 AM

Fox pundits can say whatever they want. When Fox "news" parrots the same editorial line as the pundits, then there's a problem. That's what is at issue here.

It was Fox "news" E.D. Hill who used the line "terrorist fist jab".

One wee example of editorial opinion casually slipping into the "news". There are lots more if you care to do some research.

Posted by: Maxwell's Silver Hammer at October 24, 2009 1:29 PM

Maxwell, I think the bigger issue is sponsoring Tea Parties and actively promoting them. No other news organization has done that. While Rachel and Keith opposed the war, they did not rally protests. Fox is not a news org. While Jay and others like to pretend it is, you need look no further than their lineup. Aside from Greta and Sheppard Smith, none have journalistic credibility.

Posted by: ghost of wellstone at October 24, 2009 2:40 PM

I went to a Tea Party, and no one paid me. Can you say the same?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 24, 2009 3:18 PM

Who are "Rachel" and "Keith" anyway? And since when is "speaking truth to power" a crime? Dissent is patriotic, right?

The NYT is following Fox's lead on news stories. Obama specifically criticized the state-controlled media for doing this. So keep telling yourselves Fox isn't a news organization. So far they've got Van Jones' scalp, ACORN's, and bidding fair to get Anita Dunn's and Kevin Jennings'. I'd call that yeomen's work.

Oh yeah, almost forgot: whore.

Air America is making $ with the current lineup of Montel Williams, Lionel, Nicole Sandler, Rachel Maddow and certainly Thom Hartmann and Ron Reagan. If you made the effort to research the losses of radio and television at their start, you would see that Air America has done okay, and that Fox suffered a great loss from '97 to 2000.

Air America (snigger) is a joke. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Losers polluting the electromagnetic spectrum - period. Fox News has more viewers taking a dump at any given moment than Air America has had in toto in its entire existence. That's true, and you know it.
