Hopey Change Comes to the Military

Posted by Van Helsing at October 21, 2009 11:40 AM

The Anointed One explains how, contrary to reports, he has improved morale by turning the effort in Afghanistan into target practice for the Taliban as our troops hang defenseless in the breeze in a fake but accurate story from Scooter's Report:

President Obama reacted Thursday to published accounts claiming military morale in Afghanistan is plummeting, saying morale has improved under his administration.
"Like a parent who doesn't care, my predecessor was quick to entertain every whim of the commanders in the field, giving them a false sense of empowerment but in reality degrading overall morale by denying these commanders and their forces the character building and sense of accomplishment that can only come through adversity and need," Obama said in a recorded statement played for reporters.
"My administration has brought the one thing the U.S. military needed most, and that thing was hope," the President continued. "Additional troops and armament may have a place in war, but the most powerful force we wield is hope."

Hope won't get you a job, hold up the dollar, or pay down the deficit. But it must be good for something. Maybe it can be used to fight terrorists. Meanwhile, there is still no word on whether McChrystal will get the reinforcements he needs, and the demented rules of engagement still require our troops to get slaughtered to no purpose.

"in a fake but accurate story"

So the Obama quotes are fake but you think they are accurate and proceed to try to score points with your bogus fiction.

I already called Yardale on something similar in his Amhurst Mass posting.

Just curious, how come the truth is not good enough for Moonbattery? Is your political case so impossibly flimsy that you have to try to build yourself up with lies?

What about the Hope Diamond? Hope on a Rope? Hope brand dope? HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Posted by: Mousey Tongue at October 21, 2009 12:05 PM

You can hope in one hand, and crap in the other. See which one fills up first.

How can anyone take Obama seriously? What a joke this guy is.

Posted by: J at October 21, 2009 12:07 PM

I bet Mao Lao is fun at parties. Sort of like having Dr. Jack Kevorkian as your family doctor.

Posted by: Mousey Tongue at October 21, 2009 12:10 PM

Mao Lao, we are just following your idol Saul Alinsky... RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon."

Get with the program or get lost!

Posted by: Mousey Tongue at October 21, 2009 12:13 PM

What's your problem Mousey? I ridicule those who deserve it all the time.

When an entire thread is based on attacking a self-created straw man to try to score cheap points, ridicule is easy. Obviously the right is desperate.

Mao Lao, its the left that is desperate. They though once ObaMAO was in office along with the Dummycrat Congress, Americans would welcome their Neo-Marxist agenda. To their shock, that isnt the case. Even the lefties are tearing themselves apart with the Blue Dogs standing in their way along with attacks from gay and anti-war groups.

Mao Lao, go back to worshipping your goofy looking tin god.

Posted by: Mousey Tongue at October 21, 2009 12:24 PM

Watch for a mass exodus of US troops not re-enlisting at the end of their term. The effectiveness of a leader is reflected in the loyalty of those he is leading. Another huge jump on unemployed will be coming as these patriots return home and there are none to take their place. It's part of his plan.

"Just curious, how come the truth is not good enough for Moonbattery? Is your political case so impossibly flimsy that you have to try to build yourself up with lies?"
Hey Lao,
It is a joke. Just like a Nobel Peace prize is now.

Posted by: Frank W at October 21, 2009 12:27 PM

Hope is what the troops need most? What kind of drivel is that? What an idiot.
They need leadership. I guess that's above the dope's paygrade.

J, read Van Helsing's post, the entire quote attributed to Obama is FAKE and he says so, calling it "fake but accurate".

Van Helsing was not content to simply editorialize about Obama's policies, he had to cut and paste a fake quote from another blogger first.

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 12:36 PM

Lao,
What part of "more news, less facts" don't you understand? It is right in the header at the link. Didn't they teach you how to read in libtard school?

Just the typical dumb liberal flunky spewing his odumbo kool-aid. Can't even get a joke.

Posted by: Stephana at October 21, 2009 12:37 PM

A joke Frank?

J. at 12:07 believed the quote. So did anonymous at 12:32.

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 12:38 PM

WTF?

So giving the commanding generals what they need to do their jobs is wrong, but "adversity and need builds character"?

That must be why Obama & Co. have no character...in their ivory affirmative action towers they've never known adversity or need.

Posted by: Nunya at October 21, 2009 12:44 PM

Add Nunya to the list of the gullible, who failed to get the "joke".

The Obama quote is FAKE!

The no hope and absolutly no change of our dictator OBAMA

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at October 21, 2009 12:50 PM

Where did the morale go? Down the same toilet as the $2.6 billion dollars stolen from military O&M to fund pork barrel projects.

Posted by: Anonymous Countermoonbat at October 21, 2009 12:51 PM

Hey Lao,
Is there more in the liberal koolaid than I thought? When it is a joke they think it is real, when they really say something that offends they play it as a bad joke. (I refer to the Mao philosophy subscribing Anita Dunn claiming her comments were satire that fell flat).
My personal opinion is:
If you misread it and take it seriously, you are a numb skull. They should read more carefully.
If I misread something at work and take the wrong steps I can be fired and people/business will lose money and/ or be prosecuted.
It is not the job of the universe to lower everything to the lowest common denominator.

Posted by: Frank W at October 21, 2009 12:58 PM

Loa why are getting so bent out of shape over an admitted "fake" story? Your heroes at msdnc, cnn, etc do it all the time. Why don't you go bitch at them?

Posted by: Farmer Ted at October 21, 2009 1:00 PM

J. at 12:07 believed the quote. So did anonymous at 12:32.

Yep, I was taken. Unlike leftists, I do not make false claims infallible omnipotence.

But it was well done as this is certainly in keeping with Dear Leader's expressed philosophies.

You've never been taken in by clever satire?

J, read Van Helsing's post, the entire quote attributed to Obama is FAKE and he says so, calling it "fake but accurate".

Yes, I realized that after my initial post. But if he, as you yourself state, wrote "fake but accurate," then what lie are you calling out here?

Posting satire is a lie? So, NBC is lying by posting their satire on Obama's "accomplishments"?

What is your line of reasoning here?

Frank, I mostly agree.

I pointed out that Van Helsing is using a straw man argument based on a phony quote that he acknowledged.

I also pointed out that several posters here have demonstrated that they did not realize the quote was fake.

In other words, posters on the right are basing some of their political beliefs on a lie. I think that's worth noticing, particularly when attacking a straw man is a game that Van Helsing and Gregory of Yardale play fairly often.

I don't mind pointing that out to assist the unsophisticated to read with care.

And J. as to your point, when I make them, I admit my errors. Scooter's Report, where the fake quote came from, is satire, but how many here clicked the link to find that out? You didn't.

If Van Helsing had posted the satire as a stand-alone item that would have been one thing but he didn't. He chose to offer editorial comments both before and after the fake quote satire.

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 1:14 PM

Here you go J.

POLL COMMENTARY

"Less than one in five voters (19 percent) expressed confidence in Republicans’ ability to make the right decisions for America’s future while a whopping 79 percent lacked that confidence.

Among independent voters, who went heavily for Obama in 2008 and congressional Democrats in 2006, the numbers for Republicans on the confidence questions were even more worse. Just 17 percent of independents expressed confidence in Republicans’ ability to make the right decision while 83 percent said they did not have that confidence."

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 1:33 PM

An outstanding characteristic of a disorder is to persist in your opinion when it's wrong.
Just above the entry was a cartoon showing a woman indignant that an Obama appointee liked Mother Theresa. It was a cartoon. A satiric cartoon.
The post is in the same class. Pretend news stories which are satiric are common. If you are going to beef about this one, keep going. All you are revealing is that the point of the satire went
into you like a javelin. Now we all know it hurt.
First rule in contact sport; never show it hurt.

Posted by: Jim at October 21, 2009 1:35 PM

I pointed out that Van Helsing is using a straw man argument based on a phony quote that he acknowledged.

But how is that a lie?

It's not like Rather reporting on a false George Bush story, or CNN reporting on a false firefight in the Potomic story, or MSNBC painting gun toting Tea Partiers as racist by editing out the the African American face of the gun toter, or the MSM's fals reporting on the ACORN scandal as exposed by Breitbart today. Do you make the same complaints against those news organizations which have repeatedly had to retract and apologize as of late?

Seems to me, they were simply having a bit of fun commenting on some satire. And as you yourself stated, Van Helsing wrote, "fake but accurate."

I also pointed out that several posters here have demonstrated that they did not realize the quote was fake.

Oh come on Lao. You've never been taken in by a bit of cleverly written satire?

I don't mind pointing that out to assist the unsophisticated to read with care.

Now, do you extend this exact same courtesy to members of Congress who want to pass a major bill without having read it at all, as you do to those of us who write unimportant blog comments?

Scooter's Report, where the fake quote came from, is satire, but how many here clicked the link to find that out? You didn't.

Which is my fault, not Van Helsing's. Why insist on playing victim?

If Van Helsing had posted the satire as a stand-alone item that would have been one thing but he didn't. He chose to offer editorial comments both before and after the fake quote satire.

So what? He did as you stated, write "false but accurate." It's my own fault that I didn't catch the sarcasm as quickly as I should have.

Posted by: J at October 21, 2009 1:43 PM

Lao, "fake but accurate" is an obvious reference to this story.

Lao, that's certainly one poll.

What I know for sure is, having lived through the disastrous Carter administration, history sure does seem to be repeating itself these days.

Posted by: J at October 21, 2009 2:00 PM

In the post about the poll at 1:33pm, I'm curious, Lao. Which organization conducted the poll, and what sampling did they use, percentage of dems, reps and indys? Or was it one of the "unscientific" online polls? Just asking.

Posted by: UpNorth at October 21, 2009 2:03 PM

Lao, your two little paragraphs in response to J's polls were laughably lame.

Can we get some less-annoying trolls around here? Part of Moonbattery is comedic. Everytime someone posts something funny, the dour, humorless nannies come clucking out of the woodwork and fuss about our little joke. Don't you have somewhere else to be?

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 2:16 PM

LOL J. You failed to click the Scooter's Report link in the Moonbattery post which would have led you to discover that the "quotes" attributed to Obama were satire and not reality.

I thought you might appreciate getting links to the source of the quotes I used. If I "interpret" for you, you will dispute my reading. Do your own due diligence.

Look, don't presume that I regard the negative to Republicans poll I offered as gospel. Polls are dependent on the pollster, the questions asked, and the date the polling was done among lots of other things.

You asked about my "the right is desperate" comment which I made in relation to Van Helsing's lame straw man game. You provided a bunch of links to other polls, most of which were a month old. I provided a contrary link, no big deal.

Posted by: Lao at October 21, 2009 2:24 PM

This is fictitious satire and any resemblance to persons, places, or events is coincidental.

However:

It is a certain fiction that BO has any qualifications to be a Commander-in-Chief.
And he has no resemblance to any previous persons assuming the office of the American presidency...

So I can see how people may have gotten confused.

All GOOD satire has a high level of TRUTH to it, so given Obama's real-life thumbing his nose at our military ("our" means the United States in case you're confused), it is understandable that VH's post at the top of this page would ring true as a "real" news item for many of us.

And it IS true that Obama has done nothing to help or assist the United States military...so I stand by my original statement.

And at least I wasn't duped into voting for an empty-suit Communist puppet with zero experience or "real world" accomplishments, who despite now owning the White House, the Congress, the SCOTUS, and the entire "news" media except FOX, can't seem to do anything right including keeping his own approval numbers from tanking.

So why did you vote for Obama again? Oh right:
(1) Hope 'n Change 'n Stuff
(2) NOT BUUUUUUUUUUUUSH!!!!!!1!
(3) That's who Ashton & Demi voted for
