Hollywood, Self-Centered and Out of Touch? Get Out!

Producer Harvey Weinstein is defending child-rapist Roman Polanski, and declares that Hollywood's morality is superior to anyone's!

“In an interview, Weinstein said that people generally misunderstand what happened to Polanski at sentencing. He’s not convinced public opinion is running against the filmmaker and dismisses the categorization of Hollywood as amoral. “Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion,” Weinstein said. “We were the people who did the fundraising telethon for the victims of 9/11. We were there for the victims of Katrina and any world catastrophe.”"

Yeah, even though it was the working people of America that actually donated money to the relief efforts, that actually traveled to the stricken areas and did the actual relief work, Hollywood deserves the credit. Because you guys put on a show! You really are morally superior to the rest of us.

So, I totally see your point, Harvey. Hollywood is a shining beacon of morality, especially when it comes to depraved perverts drugging middle-school girls so they can have teh buttsecks. (Or, middle school boys in the case of Director Victor Salva.)

(I was being sarcastic, BTW)

Hat Tip: Breitbart

weinstein072408_0.jpg
Who are we to question the moral compass of this visionary?

Update: By the way, Harvey Weinstein's Miramiax company distributed the 1995 film Kids, which glorified and graphically depicted sex, drug, and alcohol use among a group of 13 to 15 year olds.

Conservatives need to band together to do something about the Hollywood elite that actually works.

For decades, we have been complaining about their extreme agendas and cultural pollution, but we have done nothing to effectuate real change. In fact, we are some of their biggest enablers.

Our complaints about their politics and our either praise or derision of the product they produce, as judged on its entertainment value, only serves to make them more noteworthy in the public sphere. Bad publicity in Hollywood-speak is an oxymoron.

America has become infested with a celebrity culture that promotes obsession over the lives of others, meaningless following of inconsequential details of people wholly irrelevant to the follower, and a belief held by our children that winning a life of glamor on American Idol is both likely and desired. Our children desire to be celebrities, of which the vast majority will fail to become, instead of more socially useful and practical jobs, which they could achieve given dedication and hard work. Hollywood does not operate on dedication and hard work; it operates on luck. To win in Hollywood you must be in the right place at the right time. Some talent is required, but there is a gross oversupply of talent compared to positions available.

Conservatives need to fight back against Big Hollywood by denying them the support that so many of us are so used to giving them.

We can do this in three simple steps:

1. Stop giving them recognition. Stop caring about the lives of people that do not affect you in any way. To disconnect from the celebrity culture, simply block out these people as irrelevant to what matters to you. It is very simple, and will free your mind from being bound to caring about who and what the entertainment industry tells you to care about.

2. Stop buying their product. When you buy their product, you are funneling money to extremists who are actively working against America as we know it or would like it to be. Every time you pay your cable bill, watch a program with advertisements, visit a theater, or buy a DVD/CD, you are contributing to the problem. If you cannot live without their mass produced entertainment, you can still borrow it from your local library, or from a friend. When you borrow media, you are creating no new sales, and contributing no further revenue to the Hollywood problem.

3. Find other things to do. Hollywood has a stranglehold over so many people because the cheap and easy satisfaction of being a media consumer has left Americans lacking the understanding that there are so many other things they can do for pleasure that are rewarding, self-improving, lesser in cost, and not contributory to extreme leftism and moral/cultural bankruptcy.

Every hour you spend idly watching entertainment is an hour of your life you will never get back. You will have nothing to show for that hour. Find something else to do: read, learn, spend time with your family, help in your community, become active in political change, improve your home through work, improve your health through exercise - the possibilities are endless.

Incredibly sarcastic but funny as hell and certainly fits the title of this post.

Please let's not forget hat while some "celebrities" were there to hold fundraisers, ordinary americans donated and real heroes, policemen, firemen, army engineers and countless voluntaries showed ACTUAL compassion. BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD.

This is how insane these defenders of Polanski are; even the Nation is ripping on them.

I have realized how little I pay attention to these critters when I try to work crossword puzzles. I can get obscure references to classical literature, weird latin words, geography, history, science, and just about anything technical as well as English/French or English/German or Spanish references or puns or plays on many languages. But when it comes to movie stars or quotes from supposed celebrities or facts about their affairs and activities, I have never heard of them. In the end, I end up with blank squares because of this total ignorance. There are a few that I recognize, and when they appear I use the remote to change the channel almost as quickly as I do when Obama appears or I hear his voice.

I miss George Bush.

Posted by: Paul H at October 1, 2009 11:39 AM

Though I agree that the defense of Polanski is awful, I would hardly say Kids glorified drug use and sex. That movie came out when I was a Freshman in college and I found it extremely real and disturbing and feel strongly it was a much more powerful tool against drug use than any of the awful PSAs plastered on the TV in those days.

Well, can anyone "rape" him but not "rape, rape" him as whoopi Goldberg described? Then we'll see how he feels about this matter.
How can ANYONE defend Polanski, beyond comprehension, yet these are the same people that say that Fidel is great, Chavez is Great, Hitler was a genius, Stalin had some ideas worth looking into, Pol Pot was an environmentalist, Che was an intellectual, Mao's policies lead to an amazing Olympics (How many dead?), and that the barbarians are at the gate...... let's give them the key.

Tom, your post about Penn put a smile on my face, because it reminds me of a hilarious incident which happened to Penn while he was in New Orleans in which an obvious publicity stunt completely backfired due to Penn's stupidity (For those who don't know what I'm talking about, let's just say it involved a photo, a boat, a Dixie Cup, and a thoroughly humiliated liberal celebrity moron).

I'd like to see cable and Satellite companies allow subscribers to pick and choose which stations and/or even what TV shows we want to watch.

WE should stop blogging & tweeting about the Tina Fey's and Woophie Cushions of the VIEW are saying. And what I'd REALLY LOVE to see a week of NO OBAMA that would throw this Crazy for Coco Puff crowd down for the count. If they had no more Rice Crispy Snap, Crackle and Pop headlines then they all might have to seek medical help and call 911.

Citizen222, I canceled cable at the time of the Tea Parties for just this reason. I was pissed at the alphabet networks for their obvious bias, and my family (including pre-teen kids) realized that we only ever watched ESPN, and the History and Discovery channels anyway. The cable company wouldn't let us subscribe just those, so it was "Adios cable company!"

We haven't looked back, or regretted the move. In fact, on a recent vacation, our 10 year old flicked on the TV in our hotel room, clicked through the channels, and then turned it off, saying "Now I remember why we got rid of this." (!)

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 1:23 PM

A moral compass that allows them to excuse child rape based on the quality of the assailant's artistic contributions.

Posted by: J at October 1, 2009 1:43 PM

first of all, 'Kids' didn't glorify anything. it was done to show the reality of the teen sexual situation that was actually going on in the 90's. in fact, it was a very detatched manner in order to neither glorify or demonize what was happening on screen.

second, I think this is a gross exaggeration with regards to what Weinstein is saying. just as all Conservatives aren't cross-dressing sodomizers, neither is all of "Hollywood" drugging and raping teenagers. there are good people with good intentions in both categories. and yes, though regular folk did do most of the physical work with, for example, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when was the last time you donated millions of dollars towards anything?

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 1:49 PM

just as all Conservatives aren't cross-dressing sodomizers,

Excuse me, but that's your side of the aisle that goes in for that kind of crap.

neither is all of "Hollywood" drugging and raping teenagers. there are good people with good intentions in both categories.

Nice try, comrade, but no sale. Hollywood may not be indulging in the degenerate acts (although I wouldn't put money on that), but they are defending them, to their eternal shame. What precisely does it take to outrage a leftist? Waving an American flag? Expressing a patriotic sentiment? What? Drugging and sodomizing children obviously doesn't do it.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously. Get your moral compass checked.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 1:54 PM

you should try googling "republican scandal" and let me know how far that righteous indignation gets you, "comrade".

perhaps realizing that there are both upstanding and degrading values on both sides of the coin would give you some insight into general human behaviour.

just as I feel sick at the mere mention of pedophilia (no matter who the perpitrator), you might feel compassion for someone... hell, anyone.

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 2:08 PM

Jay, you truly have a hot ass, don't you? First, Alexis is correct, "Kids" demonstrated in a very hot and sexy manner what young teen sex in 90's did, and how "abstinence" was only for uncool dorks. Was nominated in 4 categories, and won one. So, that said, for an indie, shot entirely in documentary fashion, it was pretty vital.

Further, because most conservatives have actual moral standards, does not make Hollywood a bunch (of) creeps. Again, you should look into who married his own step-daughter, you should look into how many Hollywood types are in and out of rehab, and even statements like the Dixie chicks made on such a large stage. Sounds like entertainment is just a blast at Jay's house!?

further, as far as Polanski, being blind to both sides of this is astonishing. Samantha Geimer has stated, let's put this in my behind. This was sparked by last year's documentary in which the prosecutor admits lying in. His crime is awful, however, I think at this point it is a settlement case to both Geimer and California. He can afford it, and it keeps Geimer off the stand. Because rich people should be entitled to drug and sodomize all the middle school kids they want, and that goes double for Victor Salva.

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at October 1, 2009 2:22 PM

and btw. you really weren't pedo-bashing. you were "Hollywood"/liberal-bashing. because no one in the movie/music industry could possibly feel for a 13 year-old girl who was raped by a director.

do you personally know anyone in the movie/music industry? do you personally know someone with liberal ideals? or do you just believe whatever Fox News tells you?

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 2:25 PM

perhaps realizing that there are both upstanding and degrading values on both sides of the coin would give you some insight into general human behaviour.

Nice moral equivalence pivot. "Everybody's bad, so nobody's bad, really."

Listen to yourself: YOU CAN'T EVEN BRING YOURSELF TO CONDEMN CHILD RAPE , FOR GOD'S SAKE! You're an embarrassment to all primates.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 2:30 PM

And to the anonymous dumbshit above, Polanski isn't going to get any trial: he already pled guilty. Try to keep up, OK?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 2:33 PM

"Further, because most conservatives are talentless loafs.."
Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at October 1, 2009 2:22 PM

Riiiiiiiiiiight. We're just inventors that create useful products that make life easier for people, and Entrepreneurs that own small businesses that employ vast numbers of Americans. We're not Artistes, who create REALLY useful stuff, like paintings depicting Jesus as a Sex Fiend, or films that glorify the most unspeakable of perversions.

Posted by: Refuter of Liberal Vermin at October 1, 2009 2:37 PM

The scumball did the crime now its time for him to do the TIME. Polanski should also do time for the time he was an escapee.

A day or 2 into his sentence he will find out all about the sodomy thing. LOL

Let's see starting with music. The following composers/musicians all relied on PRIVATE patronage.

Bach
Haydn
Mozart
Beethoven
Schumann
Brahms
Wagner
Verdi
Puccini
Berlioz
Debussy

Not one 'tax based' red cent in the lot of them all.

Talentless loafs [sic]?

Posted by: Anonymous at October 1, 2009 2:42 PM

I find it difficult to reconcile the claims of Hollywood's morality with the reality that Hollywood makes movies that glorify human debris like Che Guevara and Larry Flynt.

Posted by: V the K at October 1, 2009 2:45 PM

did you miss it when I said, "just as I feel sick at the mere mention of pedophilia (no matter who the perpitrator)"?

I don't in the least believe "Everybody's bad, so nobody's bad, really." I believe that an entire category of people isn't respinsible for the morality of one.

again, you aren't even really talking about Polanski or pedophilia anymore. you're using one man's misdeeds to condemn an entire industry.

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 2:49 PM

And now let's look at the blatant racism of our leftist trolls. Polanski is a hero, he's wonderful, all he did was drug and anally rape a child. It's not like he did anything really bad, you know, like having overdue library books or voting Republican. Give him a skip.

Meanwhile, Mike Tyson got rung up for raping a woman of legal age who accepted his invitation to come a-calling at 1:30 AM. Tyson did time for that (as was right and proper), but he looks like Mr. Clean compared to Polanski.

So, comrades, where were the petitions defending Mike Tyson? Hmmm? A little too dusky for you, was he?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 2:50 PM

glorify.

"you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 2:50 PM

Anyone and everyone who has a scintilla of decency must condemn Polanski. Conversely, anyone who doesn't - i.e., a lot of lefties - is scum, because they're implicitly condoning his actions, which were...despicable.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 2:52 PM

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 2:54 PM

glor-i-fy verb, to cause to be or treat as being more splendid, excellent, etc., than would normally be considered.

Making films that portray a mass murderer and a scumbag pronographer as sympathetic, heroic protagonists definitely meets the definition of glorify.

Oliver Stone has a current film that glorifies Marxist dictator Hugo Chavez.

Posted by: V the K at October 1, 2009 2:59 PM

The Motorcycle Diaries" glorifies a murderous sociopath? Why not The Henhouse Diaries glorifying Guevara's spiritual counterpart, Heinrich Himmler?

you sound like a loons proclaiming, "ROMAN POLANSKI MAKES MOVIES AND RAPES KIDDIES! ALL HOLLYWOOD LIBERALS THINK HE'S AWESOME!"

Posted by: alexis at October 1, 2009 3:21 PM

Seems like Oliver Stone also made a film about another murderous world leader, Oh yeah, Bush!

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at October 1, 2009 3:37 PM

ALL HOLLYWOOD LIBERALS THINK HE'S AWESOME!"

Straw man alert. You've missed the point yet again. No one said all Hollywood liberals think he's awesome. The point was that an disturbing number of them think so. Whoopi Goldberg, Harrison Ford, and Debra Winger, to name three off the top of my head. The proper number should have been zero.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 3:41 PM

Of course, since Bush was pro-freedom, and pro-American, Olly made him into the bad guy,

Posted by: V the K at October 1, 2009 3:41 PM

Let's recount the bidding: we've now seen leftist trolls try using moral equivalence, the appropriately named red herring, the straw man, and now misdirection ("Look, a puppy!"). Next up: tuo quoque.

You heard it here first.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at October 1, 2009 3:44 PM

Time to update our leftist lexicon.

RP1: Roman didn't do it (always use given name to personalize the culprit)

RP2 she was asking for it

RP3 he wasn't even there

RP4 her mother is just as culpable

RP5 the one-armed man did it

RP6 Roman has suffered enough already

RP7 Republicans routinely do much worse every day

RP8 Not every single liberal on the face of the earth is enthusiastic about child rape; some are just lukewarm on it

RP9 it wasn't rape-rape, whatever that is

RP10 Some toddlers are very mature sexually

RP11 a millennium ago, she'd have been considered an old maid

RP12 She's not 13 any more

RP13 Roman made some movies we like

RP14 Roman escaped from the Holocaust

RP15 Roman didn't receive any tax advice from ACORN

RP16 Well...well...Bush!

So now you child rapist apologists don't need to type your crap; you can just refer to the numbers, viz., RP1 and besides RP2, not to mention RP14 and RP4, whereas RP7, and remember RP8. In addition to which, RP12, and naturally RP10 and RP11. Last, but not least, RP16!

There. Now isn't that easier?
