Ford Soon to Surpass GM
Posted by Van Helsing at October 2, 2009 9:06 AM
Rather than using bankruptcy to free themselves from the union contracts bleeding them dry, GM and Chrysler knuckled under and were absorbed by Chairman Zero's socialist blob. Consequently, they are on the road to oblivion. Conversely, Ford held out against the heavy-handed "bailouts," earning it great respect from the public. Soon GM will be a fading speck in Ford's rearview mirror:
A leading economic forecasting firm [Global Insight] sees an anemic recovery in new car sales over the next 18 months, but a stronger rebound after 2012 when Ford's market share in the U.S. will surpass General Motors and narrowly trail Toyota's.
Ford has stood up to Big Government before, most famously when Henry Ford derided the Blue Eagle symbolizing FDR's thuggish attempts to lord it over the auto industry as "Roosevelt's buzzard." By staving off Comrade Obama's socialist power grabs, it has established itself as the only truly American car company.
For its part, Government Motors has rolled out its new 2010 BS Class Hybrid:

For the liberals that think driving a Prius is too macho!

Ford's biggest problem is that its UAW employees now own one of its rival companies. Conflict of interest anyone.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why I only own Fords. :)

I am so glad i don't buy American cars.

Sure Ford didn't get gobbled up outright by the government, but they sure have been sucking on the taxpayer tit. Billions upon billions of taxpayer money has gone to Ford for upgrading factories to produce "green" cars. Just 3 months ago they scooped up another 6 billion dollars: http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/economy/markets-mainmenu-45/1290
Ford will be the last "domestic automaker" to go down the tubes, but they is no doubt about the final outcome.

It also helps that lately Ford is making some of their best cars in years. I think that a great many people underestimated the backlash against government ownership of GM and Chrysler (which should have been dead three times already).
I'll never again buy a GM car (I had two - one was just OK, the other sucked), and Chryslers are such trash I won't even look at one. Ford is the only domestic I would even consider, and even then I'd probably buy an import. Even Ford has an uphill battle, not least because of the perception of the domestic's quality (or lack thereof), but also, as V the K pointed out, because their employee's union owns their competitors. Their best hope will be to get their employees to decertify the union, convincing them that the union can't possibly work in their best interests when the union's own best interests lie elsewhere. It won't happen, but that's the best case.

Hawver,
I don't think Ford will go down the tubes. they may not be number 1 in the world but they will survive. Consumer reports rates all but 2 of Ford's 2010 models as a "recommended buy". Not bad for a company that was on the brink.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but here goes. Why doesn't Ford just build factories in states like Tennessee, Alabama, or the Carolinas like the foreign automakers to get out from under the unions?

Mr. & Mrs. Humpty Dumpty and all the Kings Ladies fell of the wall... and finally broke.
The question is?? Who pays for this fall... The Taxpayers... and the poor sacrifices that the Obama's made in flying to Copenhagen.
The economy is in shambles, the unemployment figures are at 25 year highs, soldiers are being wounded and killed in battle... and the POTUS is flying to his Waterloo...
Now this is change you can believe in..
And oh yeah... this will be a RACE issue when it is finally analyzed by the MSM here in the United States.
Another DUMB DECISION made to benefit his supporters in Chicago..
ANOTHER REASON TO REQUEST IMPEACHMENT.
Let them sacrifice like the unemployed and the middle class... Make them have the same healthcare that they want for ALL AMERICANS..

I used to live in LA. Good to see the city council hasn't changed a bit. Blame the victim because that's a whole lot easier than going after the criminal. Some things never change.

Steven, Unfortunately, the union has influence where ever Ford builds a plant in this country. That's why Ford built a state of the art modern assembly plant in Brazil. No union to f**k up the works. They tried to do it here, but the use of too much automation eliminated more jobs than the UAW would allow. So in the end, the jobs that it did create are in Brazil, and the UAW loses out again. You would think they would want any new jobs they could get, but in the union way of thinking, no jobs is better than some jobs. Go figure.
