California Ecofascists Target Television Sets
Posted by Van Helsing at October 16, 2009 8:14 AM
At what point will we rise up and defend ourselves from the arrogant encroachments of totalitarian ecofascists? Maybe when they come after our TVs:
The influential lobby group Consumer Electronics Assn. is fighting what appears to be a losing battle to dissuade California regulators from passing the nation's first ban on energy-hungry big-screen televisions.
On Tuesday, executives and consultants for the Arlington, Va., trade group asked members of the California Energy Commission to instead let consumers use their wallets to decide whether they want to buy the most energy-saving new models of liquid-crystal display and plasma high-definition TVs.
"Voluntary efforts are succeeding without regulations," said Doug Johnson, the association's senior director for technology policy. Too much government interference could hamstring industry innovation and prove expensive to manufacturers and consumers, he warned.
But those pleas didn't appear to elicit much support from commissioners at a public hearing on the proposed rules that would set maximum energy-consumption standards for televisions to be phased in over two years beginning in January 2011.
As always, petty tyrants from the government quack that this latest barrage of onerous regulations will actually save us money and even create new jobs — in addition to improving the weather and rescuing the polar bears. Appliance manufacturers need to learn their lesson and donate more generously to the Democrat Party, lest they be forbidden from making anything at all.
On a tip from Wiggins.

Conservatives should just sell their TVs, cancel their cable/satellite/netflix subscriptions, and take pride in helping to de-fund Big Hollywood and the unhinged moonbattery it supports.

First they came for our cigarettes, but I don't smoke, so I said nothing.
Then they came for our burgers, fries, and chips, but I was still single and trying to stay in shape, so I said nothing.
Then they came for our sugary sodas, but I drank diet Coke, so I said nothing.
Then they came for our cars, but I have 5.7 liter Hemi V8 under the hood, so thought "Fuck 'em...I'll just outrun 'em.", so I said nothing.
Then they came for our large screen TVs, but by then nobody was having any fun, so there was nobody who cared enough to say anything.....

AC, my family has already done this (except for selling the TVs). We don't miss TV at all - not even the kids. On a recent vacation our pre-teenturned on the TV in a hotel room, surfed through the channels, then turned it off. He said, "Now I remember why we canceled cable." (!)

Same here AC & Jay, except kinda. I have 3 TVs -- 2 flat screens and an old tabletop CRT model -- none of which is a big screen.
But if the government wants to pay me for taking them off my hands, they can come get 'em anytime. I'd be better off, better read, physically healthier, more active, and get more accomplished without TV (and most of the Internet) in my life at all.

Sorry guys but I will not give up watching Daytona prototype and Koni Challenge racing. If they come for my LCD's... in the immortal words of Al Bundy, "Let's rock".

I took up shooting sports. Introduced the wife and kids to the sport. Now we don't even have a TV. The last time I asked the family "Do you want a new big screen TV or another AR-15?" the response was overwhelmingly for the AR-15!
The wife has a pink (yea I said pink) AK-47.
The 13 yr old girl claims the 15 yr old boy is "hogging" the AR and another one would even things out. Now the boy is reloading all the ammo and the daughter wants her own bench because the boy is "hogging" the Dillon 550. What have I created?

Next thing to outlaw is toilet paper.
I'm tellin' ya, it's that damn flouride in the water, man! I really can't think of anything else except maybe a shipload of space aliens with a nasty sense of humor irradiating the Earth with a Stupid Ray. And... they've exceeded beyond any expectation.
I'm almost sorry my family and I have served in the military. I have to keep focused on the fact we defended the Constitution, not this boatload of gaping assholes.
Thanks alot, 52%!

Interesting thoughts here. Personally, I haven't ever owned a TV (since I moved out of my parents house in 1968). Don't miss it at all... tho I will occasionally watch with friends or when I'm on vacation.
HOWEVER, I will support any and all American's rights to watch whatever size and type of TV they wish. Government, BUTT OUT!!
