Barack Obama Wins Yasser Arafat Peace Prize
Posted by Gregory of Yardale at October 9, 2009 5:57 AM
The Nobel Committee has truly beclowned itself this time. The Peace Prize has meant nothing since 1994 when it was awarded to Yasser Arafat to reward his lifelong pursuit of Jew-killing. In times since, it has been awarded to Jimmy Carter and Al Gore for their lifelong pursuit of not being George W. Bush. Now, it's been awarded to Barack Hussein Obama for his lifelong pursuit of being Barack Hussein Obama.
The Times Online has noticed the "Life imitates the Onion" quality of awarding a Nobel Prize to an over-rated narcissist who has accomplished Jack Squat.
The prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.
No kidding. But I doubt Obama's silly little cult will see it this way. They also think Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, and for the same reason, because he is 'The One.' I am sure the next verse in the Schoolchildren's hymn to Obama is being written as we speak. They should give him an Oscar, too, for that matter. Because he has made just as many contributions to film as he has to World Peace.
As a bonus, let's consider who the Nobel Committee considered less worthy than Barack Hussein Obama to receive to Nobel Peace Prize:
- Chinese Human Rights Activist Hu Jia - imprisoned for campaigning for human rights in the PRC, not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
- Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. -- not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama. (Not to mention the symbolic value of awarding a Chinese dissident on the 20th Anniversary of the Tianenmen Square Massacre.)
- Greg Mortenson, founder of the Central Asia Institute has built nearly 80 schools, especially for girls, in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past 15 years - not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
- Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, a philosophy professor in Jordan who risks his life by advocating interfaith dialogue between Jews and Muslims, also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
- Afghan human rights activist Sima Samar. She currently leads the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and serves as the U.N. special envoy to Darfur and is apparently also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.

I thought the Nobel committee had simply made a mistake when they gave an award to manbearpig and that that would never happen again, but now I see that the tentacles of corruption have infiltrated the Nobel award process. It is truly a sad day.
Posted by: obamasux at October 9, 2009 6:57 AM
This really is an award for not being George W. This committee is on crack. The right, every conservative worth a plug nickle, every Repub should start singing the praises of the work that George W. did in Africa. The man did more as a sitting President (or anyone else for that matter) for the African people. I'm not suggesting he get a Nobel Prize for it but the hypocrisy of this award, given to someone who has done nothing but go around the world and apologize for the country that put him where he is, with no other accomplishment than being black is an insult to those people who have done great works. Well at least he is in great company, Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat, Al Gore. Once again a undeserving recipient walks away with 1 million and lauded for accomplishments he/she didn't even have anything to do with or simply given the award as a popularity contest. If he had an ounce of integrity he would take that million and give it to the worthless beggars in Detroit who rioted for a chance at our paychecks for nothing! Ugggghhh! Once again, for the first time in my adult life......I am ashamed of my country.....and the rest of the world!

I'm thinking that my husband will officially renounce his Swedish ancestry later today, unless, of course, the O donates his prize money to people of Swedish heritage in reparation for actually accepting the award.

When eGore and the UN won it two years ago for their efforts to promote global warming hysteria, I said "what a joke" and thought that the Nobel Peace Prize had reached bottom.
But then I thought that, no, these moonbats could always find someone even more irrelevant to award the prize too. And they have!

Hmmm... i see all the sour-grapes angst, and i expect nothing else from the likes of this site, but nobody seems capable of putting this together, so i will help you out:
Obama's policy of open engagement on the international stage (the policy that the GOP and its army of goons openly mock) is.... working. What's that word? "Working".
Imagine that... if you aren't a dick that just declares war on whoever is closest, for no reason, at the drop of a hat... people will respect that as a PATH TO PEACE.
Which is the real goal here on earth, for everyone (except, apparently, FauxNews viewers and their ill-mannered ilk).
So complain all you like, but remember: the world thinks Obama is a great hope for peace. I think Obama is a great hope for peace. You probably, in a moment of honesty, think the same... but just prefer war. Now... Ask yourself WHY.

The prize is deservedly awarded because BHO is the first person ever to truly, really wish for world peace. It's obvious that anyone who has an election slogan like Hopey Changey must be the one perfect reason that all warring peoples to lay down their arms and strive (pleasantly) for peace.
Since he came to power there has been no discord anywhere in the world, no unfortunate deaths. His power is awesome. He has said he wants a world with no nukes... wow! If only others had said that.
And he said he wants people to be healthier in his own country... my God, so visionary!
And above all, he has used the word "I" so fluently. It was as if the teleprompter itself were speaking to us!

Pointing out that the very IDEA of peace is on the rebound (and further, that America is clearly no longer the Big Dog of the world and actually has to learn to 'play well with others') is not gonna affect any of you, huh?
Go on spinning your GOP-neocon-crazy desire for US-led war ad infinitum into a political statement, and prepare for a rough next few generations as the Dems continue to get REAL WORK DONE on engagement with America's enemies. Remember, it is not all about what we HAVE done, it is about what we are TRYING to do.
Go sit in the corner and ask yourselves WHY you fear even the IDEA of peace so very much......

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But it seems to me the criteria for winning a Noble Peace Prize have changed since Martin Luther King Jr.or Mother Thersa won the prize.
A friend died earlier this year. He spent many years working in a small, impoverished village in Nicaragua. He, along with others, under his guidance, built a school, a municipal water system, a medical facility and other works of unselfish kindness. He did so without fanfare or the need of it. He acomplished more than Chairman TelePrompter.
Greg Mortensen was mentioned above. Two years ago, I saw his presentation of what he has accomplished. He didn't brag. He kept politics out of it. He is humble. Barry O. has alot to learn.
Every year, KUSA-TV in Denver, Colorado awards nine people (the station is on channel 9) in Colorado who have made a difference in the lives of others by doing many great and unselfish acts. The award in called 9 Who Care. They even award young people with 9 Kids Who Care awards. All of them, every year, accomplish more than Obambi ever will.
The Noble Prize Committee jumped the shark when Yassar Airy Fart was crowned. The prize now has even less meaning. The orgasmic sigh we all heard was Tingles Matthews. Odorman must be beside himself. I'm sure the tissue box is empty in newsrooms around the country, if not the world.
The prize committee offically sucks. 'Nuff said.

The WORLD thinks Obama is a great 'HOPE' for peace? Which world? And whom? The majority of the world mocks our president. He will be the one to blame for this countries' ruination and provide the vehicle for the muslims to do their bidding as they see fit AKA kill the infidels. He is soooo stupid that he thinks he can convince a group of people that have been conditioned for a thousand years to stop being who they are in a couple of days. And you believe that?!
HAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHHHAHAAHAHAHHAAAAA
As for your 'insight' I, for one, have for not one instant thought Obama was good for peace or anything else for that matter. Prefer war? If it means protecting this country against those that wish it harm in any way shape or form you're damned right I do. And your good buddy Obama is helping them, asshat.
On another note. Awards nowadays have little if any meaning as the original meaning behind the awards have been so bastardized.
As is proven once again in this case.

I see. So you, with foresight unknown to man, have seen the future results of a policy of open engagement, playing well with others, and admitting (right out loud!) that we aren't flawless... and somehow reached the conclusion that it is doomed to failure?
People like you are the very reason that the peace process is more difficult than it needs ot be. Resigning oneself to failure before the dice are cast is the sign of a bankrupt intellect (not to mention a rather bleak, awful worldview)...

October sure does suck for Repulicans and Obama haters don't it now?
Bob Dole and Bill Frist back health care reform, O'Rielly and Arnold backs public option, Obama's numbers take a turn upward, the GOP gets egg on their faces for supporting the Olympic failure of America, Barney Franks gets Paul Ryan to admit the GOP coddled to Big Insurance, Al Frankin lands his first legislation and scores big time with women, voters take notice of GOP female lawmakers shying away from NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain wanting Pelosi (a woman) "put in her place", Former House Minority Leader John Boehner says it was fine for him to not allow Congress time to read bills because "it was a different time", Looney Tunes Bachmann's paranoid that non-FOX news agencies are "stalking" her, the DNC launches new initiative called "The Faces of the GOP", retail sales saw 1st gains in 14 months in Sep., FOX News Shepard Smith slams the GOP myths on health care, Betsy McCaughey gets owned by Dylan Ratigan and Anthony Weiner, Hannity gets owned by Moore, even right wing Ari Fleisure slams Bachmann on Larry King, the Bush administration is exposed for blocking efforts to enforce laws against predatory lending, Hannity falters in a lane and desperate attempt to keep up with Beck in his Kevin Jennings witch hunt, the GOP tells Michael Steele to please STFU, and now your hated POTUS gets the Nobel Peace Prize.
Seems like a lot of folks here want to overlook Obama's promotion of counter-proliferation, push of turning torture policies around, taking on a new approach to international engagement, and recommitting the U.S. to the Middle East peace process. But if that doesn't work for, just not being an incompetent, war mongering, and illiterate GWB could be a possibility as well.
Posted by: andy42302 at October 9, 2009 8:56 AM
Not to mention that America is NOT the big swinging dick of the world anymore. China owns our asses, and will for at least a generation; and the emerging middle classes in the 3rd world are growing by leaps and bounds... isolationism and unilateralism are no longer viable policy options here in the "actual world".
You war-hawk neocons are seeming unaware of actually seeing the world for what it is. We cannot go on as if this were still 1950. It isn't.
The fact that our leader recognizes the change in the wind and is working towards a new, sustainable America is a damn good thing.
Your tired warmiongering nonsense, however, is not.

Wow, I wonder how TIME Magazine is going to handle this. That issue will probably spontaneously combust, from the embellishments contained within, starting house fires across the country.
What if Obama sends more troops to Afghanistan? Will they revoke his prize? What if he follows Biden advice unleasing more killer drones that kill more "innocent" civilians? What if the middle east explodes in the nuclear hell fire? Or just plain blows up in a conventional war between Iran and Israel? Is the Nobel committe deliberately trying to make Obama look like an idiot down the road?
The Peace Prize has become a joke over the years, this I guess is the punch line.
Posted by: Bad Robot at October 9, 2009 8:59 AM
"Remember, it is not all about what we HAVE done, it is about what we are TRYING to do."
Actually, considering it's an award, which are traditionally given for actual ACCOMPLISHMENTS, I'd say it IS about what we HAVE done. Any one of the others mentioned in the article would have been 20 times more deserving of the award than Obama, because they have actually done more and sacrificed more to promote peace and human rights to the world than he has. I mean, looking at just one of those examples, Wei Jingsheng spent seventeen years in prison for his efforts to reform the hellish, oppressive Communist dictatorship that is the People's Republic of China. Obama, on the other hand, just jetted to a few conferences, read some empty, flowery speeches off his trusty teleprompter, and bashed his own country. So, I ask you: Which of those two do you see as more deserving of the award?
Then again, the Nobel Peace Prize has long been more about singing the praises of the liberals' golden boys than about actually recognizing individuals who have truly worked for peace, hence why Yassir Arafat, the father of modern Islamic terrorism, won it.
"...the GOP gets egg on their faces for supporting the Olympic failure of America..."
I don't know what you're smoking, Andy, but the last time I checked, the only ones with egg on their faces over that affair were the Obamas and Oprah, as their PR stunt backfired on them and made them look like the fools they are.
Posted by: Adam at October 9, 2009 9:11 AM
Adam, you're only looking at one side of that coin (not an uncommon practice here). Obama went to bat and struck out so it's understandable that you guys enjoy seeing that. But the filmed cheering of The Weekly Standard and blatant glee of many of the GOP didn't set well with many Americans as they saw a loss of thousands of jobs, billions of $, and an achievement for America end in loss. You cheered America's loss for political advantage and people saw that. Egg man, egg!

"I see. So you, with foresight unknown to man, have seen the future results of a policy of open engagement, playing well with others, and admitting (right out loud!) that we aren't flawless... and somehow reached the conclusion that it is doomed to failure?"
And you've reached the conclusion that it will all be good. Here's an idea--why don't they wait and see if Obama's "efforts" actually do more good than harm before giving him a Nobel? Like everything else in Obama's life this award comes without any commensurate results or efforts on his part.

Posted by: andy42302 at October 9, 2009 9:33 AM
An award like the NPP is a symbol. Does it change anything? Not really... but what it does do is support the idea that peace is preferable to the alternatives.
Giving Obama the Nobel may be premature, but it sends a message to the world, that the world wants to foster the sort of reasoned discourse among nations that might somday result in meaningful improvement.
I know you all seem to want to poop all over the very idea of engagement with others, but in the world we live in we (America) are no longer capable of being the end-all in the world. Solution? Engage and build bridges rather than bombing them down.
(Interesting aside: all the religious zellies in the audience should really, really agree with this if they want to be consistent... what, after all, is the Pope's title? Pontifex Maximus. Like the failure to recognize the brilliant successes of socialism in Cuba, Zimbabwe, and North Korea.
Like the failure to recognize how forty years of one-party Democrat rule in Detroit, Newark, East St. Louis, and Buffalo have made these cities into shining beacons of prosperity, and have made Chicago and Philadelphia the least corrupt, least violent cities in the world.

Andy I can't help that you live in a strange place. Why do you think they call them BACK to school, as in after summer break, the kids are going BACK to school. Of course there could be another reason...retailers have the people in your area thinking that junior needs something after every break in the school year. I can't help that either.

So, your (startlingly stupid) examples aside, what about the pattern of decreasing returns for america's unilateral milirtary action? Since WW2 that hasn't gone so well...
How about the pattern of America's populace getting older, sicker, and poorer while you and yours whistle past the graveyard? Clearly there never needs ot be any changes to healthcare... right? Ohh... a pattern...
There's always the pattern of America's declining strength as the leader of innovation. A great example: India, Japan, China... they all have space programs now. Wouldn't it be cool if we could all WORK TOGETHER to really advance the cause of humanity? (No, of course not. They are all eeevil... let them keep their 'science'. Right?)
Pretending that Obama's plan is anything like Cuba (or Nazis, or whatever other dumb-ass talking points you were told by Rush to say) is just plain retarded. You know better, but you like the way it sounds in your head. Those voices aren't real, man... but the trends in the world are.

1. No, we are not against it because we are supposedly "Pro- war." we are against it for the same reason why we were against him becoming president: Because there are many other people much more qualified and deserving of it than he is, as I noted in my last post.

Andy you'll never be able to "get me" with any of your libbish resoning. I could have sworn that when the "stimulus" checks sent out in 2008 caused retail sales to grow as well. Wasn't that when Bush was still in office? As I posed to you in another thread what has obooboo done to create such as rise in sales? Forced retail stores to drop their prices? Maybe those evil capitalist companies actually lowered their prices to stimulate sales and thus retail sales rose. I can understand, being a socialist and all, that you don't understand that profits drive business but please try and keep up.

This Nobel prize is clear indication that Obama's stock is FALLING. Yes, FALLING. Lib elitists didn't want to wait a year or 2 to get The One to pull back from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran by himself. They are afraid that Obama will have epic FAIL after FAIL, lose the house/senate to the GOP in 2010, and be unable to carry out his American defeatist agenda.

Sheesh, Andy, there are a lot of things you need to buy for school that don't involve clothing. Don't you have any kids?

Cram It, 8:51 a.m.: First of all: Build a bridge and get over yourself. Same goes for you Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and Candy Andy. Second: "Resigning oneself to failure before the dice are cast...." What the Sam Hell is that supposed to mean? There is no such expression. There is: "Before the die is cast." Referring to sculpture or sculpturing. But dice? What the....? Before the dice are thrown, or rolled maybe, but, dude, whatchabeensmokin'?

How can anyone take seriously a committee that awarded a peace prize to Yasser Arafat??
Posted by: LEANN at October 9, 2009 11:05 AM
A few months ago, the Nobel Prize was likened to "the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks", but now, it's more like the prize WITHOUT the Cracker Jacks.

To those of you that think/believe that Obama socialism in this country is the best thing: You may very well get your chance to find out that you are wrong IF it happens. You may also get your chance to find out you were wrong IF we rescue this REPUBLIC from the likes of Obama and his myrmidons.
Yeah, we would all like the so called utopian society where there was no hunger, no disease, no wars, no crime etc etc etc that you liberal folk think is over the next hill. Newsflash!! It doesn't exist and never will. You're being duped by a bunch of shrewd hypocrits.
The difference between you and I are merely that you see security is provided by giving up your freedom and liberty and I see that liberty and freedom provides security.
See ya on the battlefield!

All these stupid ass Liberal comments just prove what we have said: Hopey McChange DID NOTHING to deserve this.
You ass-kissers all said "it MIGHT make a diffrence". OK, let's give him an Emmy, an Oscar, a Grammy, the Congresonal Medal of Honor, the Victorian Cross and a blow-job too. That MIGHT make the world a better place.
Posted by: KHarn at October 9, 2009 12:04 PM
Andy/Hmmmm,
Fundamental flaw with your logic is the assumption that we want war all over the place. That is short sighted and while it is your perception, I for one do not accept it. I would love for the President's "open engagement" to work but that is a utopian hope as long as you have young American men and women dying in Afghanistan/Iraq and frankly in many other places, there is definitely no peace. As long as there is an ideology out there that seeks world domination through genocide there is no peace. Following your logic then he should have immediately pulled forces out in January. Your simplistic vision is reckless and dangerous to the American way of life. Another thing is that George Bush actually did more for the people of Africa (actual accomplishment) and you won't give him one once of credit will you? Bottom line is you are a typical liberal, everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others. Look at yourselves, ask how have you benefited from being an American, and no one is saying you can't have an opinion, but cherrypicking facts and omitting others isn't intellectually honest. By the way the first one to take actual steps toward eliminating nuclear weapons was Ronald Reagan, where was his award? Oh yeah Heaven!
Posted by: TW at October 9, 2009 12:28 PM
To his credit, Jimmy Carter helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity. HAR! Can you just picture in your mind Obambi swingin' a big honkin' framing hammer? If he hammers anything like he throws a baseball, he'll be hammering like lighting: He'll never strike twice in the same place!
KHarn: It's too late for the Grammy Award. He won it in 2008 for spoken word category for his narration of Audacity of Hope. I'm not making this up, it's true.

Ted, I have no interest whatsoever in "getting you" which I assume you mean get one over on you or perhaps winning a debate or such with you. You do quite well "getting yourself".
Judith, yes I have children. I have a son at University of Louisville, a daughter at University of Kentucky (obviously I avoid college basketball conversations), a son at our local community college, and a daughter that's a junior in high school. I well understand the cost of going back to school. I also understand that that it occurs every year instead of every 14 months, thus shooting holes in FT's theory. What part of this are you having problems with?
TW, I haven't expressed an opinion that suggests that you "want war all over the place" so the "flawed logic" falls back in your court.

So you, with foresight unknown to man, have seen the future results of a policy of open engagement, playing well with others, and admitting (right out loud!) that we aren't flawless... and somehow reached the conclusion that it is doomed to failure?
Whereas everyone clearly sees that those policies will inevitably lead to success. No need to wait to see whether or not Obama's policies actually work.
China owns our asses, and will for at least a generation
Good point. Best way out of that problem is...to borrow a buttload of money from them. Good thinking.
isolationism and unilateralism are no longer viable policy options here in the "actual world".
Uh...isn't acting unilaterally overseas inconsistent with isolationism? Just checking.
Wow, I wonder how TIME Magazine is going to handle this. That issue will probably spontaneously combust, from the embellishments contained within, starting house fires across the country.
Nah, only a couple fires, tops. Check out TIME magazine's circulation.
Giving Obama the Nobel may be premature, but it sends a message to the world, that the world wants to foster the sort of reasoned discourse among nations that might somday result in meaningful improvement.
That reminds me, why didn't Neville Chamberlain get the Nobel Peace Prize?

Now, things are slowly changing and people are starting to think we aren't that bad after all. And I actually think you can't believe a black man is president. No, the grownups are amused. Implicitly you yourself are admitting the The One hasn't done anything to warrant the Nobel Peace Prize, apart from succeeding Bush. That's kind of pathetic, actually.
But can we now expect great things from the The One? I think we all sure hope so. Over to you, Barack. No pressure.

"And I actually think you can't believe a black man is president."
Of course you think that, Paget. As a brainwashed Obammunist lemming, you are programmed to believe that if anyone DOESN'T completely adore Obama, or disagrees with any of his policies, it's automatically motivated entirely by racism. Of course, you never provide any proof of this, you believe that just yelling the accusation of racism at us is enough.

It's already sucking for the liberals suffering from buyer's remorse.
A projected 23.7 trillion dollar deficit. FoxNews kills Obama's pet networks including NBC and MSNBC. The IOC wasn't dazzled by THE ONE's aura. The Democrats are frightened of facing their own constituents on government-run health care and resort to epithets and hiding under their desks. Michael Moore is a hypocritical opportunist who prefers to bug AIG instead of the ones actually responsible for the bailouts: Obama and his Dem lackeys in Congress and Senate. Kevin Jennings has been exposed for the NAMBLA supporter he is.
Like Carter, Obama has never met a dictator he doesn't like. He's a socialist empty suit who kowtows and apologizes to every malefactor on the planet. That must be the new requirement. Just wait until he gets done making the world a lot less safe with his bumbling "diplomacy".
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is laughing his ass off.

HealthCare
Cap & Trade
Abortion on demand (don't worry, when it fails, you only have to put the laundry closet until it shuts up)
More 'stimulus'

Buying the car companies

Pandering to terrorists
Normalizing men who are happy to put their penis up another man's anus and subjecting children to this

Andy, I can't speak to the school supply business, or whether the poor sales in 2008 were the result of all the pre-election fear mongering (though I wouldn't be surprised if it was); however, as the owner of a retail bookstore that sells what most people consider to be "nonessentials" I can tell you beyond any shadow of a doubt that 2009 was WAY worse than 2008. I don't need any study to tell me that, I'm living it.
Under Obama things have been sucking for retail, because people are scared witless that he is going to lead us to financial disaster and they are not buying anything unless they have to.

Posted by: Anonymous at October 10, 2009 7:32 AM
Judith, the reason folks aren't buying is because George W. Bush took Clinton's sound economy and promptly trashed it. He then transferred the wealth to the have mores, thus leaving the working man broke. I honestly believe that if GWB has but 1 regret, it's likely that he didn't get our social security from us in time for the big CEOs to dole it out among themselves before going broke.
Obama had nothing to do with it. The stimulus however has kept the economy from spiraling out of control.

See, I don't agree that Clinton's economy was sound, Andy. The time bomb known as the "mortgage meltdown" was set during his administration. CRA in union with cheap credit set up a lot of people for financial ruin. Even many people who should have known better were duped by this set up. It was classic. You create conditions that make people spend, spend, spend. This creates a bubble. You sit back and save your cash waiting for the bubble to pop. When it does, as it always does in these situations, you cash in on the liquidation sales. How do you think Soros always does so well? He's engaging in insider trading (in fact, he's been convicted of it in France). IOW, Soros knows what's going to happen in advance because he's a co-conspirator. And do I have to remind you, Andy, that he's one of yours?
