Some say that in winning the Nobel Prize, President Obama will have all the more cause to work hard and bring a true, lasting peace to international hotspots such as Afghanistan. However, despite his campaign pledge to make defeating Al Qaeda and the Taliban his number one priority as president, others on the Left and Right argue that his priorities should lie domestically -- The One was elected President of the USA, not Leader of the Free World. Still others ask, what fundamentally is wrong with Afghanistan? Who are we to try and impose Western-style democracy and values on these proud people, with centuries of unique tribal culture?
To a moral relativist such as Our Dear Leader, there are multiple means to relatively the same end: evening the international playing field. As astutely pointed out by Mark Steyn:
Mr. Obama's priorities lie not in the Hindu Kush but in America: Why squander your presidency on trying to turn an economically moribund feudal backwater into a functioning nation-state when you can turn a functioning nation-state into an economically moribund feudal backwater?
