ACORN Handed Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions

Posted by Van Helsing at October 26, 2009 7:17 AM

Apparently it will take more than the astonishing O'Keefe/Giles exposés to disinfect Washington of the disease known as ACORN. Ignoring revelations that ACORN is a cesspool of corruption, Demonrats have voted to give it regulatory power over the financial institutions that it habitually shakes down for donations.

During consideration of H.R. 3126, legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions.
The Waters amendment adds to the CFPA Oversight Board 5 representatives from the fields of "consumer protection, fair lending and civil rights, representatives of depository institutions that primarily serve underserved communities, or representatives of communities that have been significantly impacted by higher-priced mortgages" to join Federal banking regulators in advising the Director on the consistency of proposed regulations, and strategies and policies that the Director should undertake to enforce its rules.
By making representatives of ACORN and other consumer activist organizations eligible to serve on the Oversight Board, the amendment creates a potentially enormous government sanctioned conflict of interest. ACORN-type organizations will have an advisory role on regulating the very financial institutions from which they receive millions of dollars annually in direct corporate contributions and benefit from other financial partnerships and arrangements. These are the same organizations that pressured banks to make subprime mortgage loans and thus bear a major responsibility for the collapse of the housing market.
In light of recent evidence linking ACORN to possible criminal activity, Democrats took an unprecedented step today to give ACORN a potential role alongside bank regulators in overseeing financial institutions.

Our leftist rulers are so arrogant, they don't even pretend not to be in league criminals anymore.

obama acorn
ACORN is too big to fit under the bus.

Does the picture imply B. Hussein is part of ACORN or that he's just a NUT!

I'm thinking something along the lines of fox and hen-house here.
Or maybe more like NAMBLA providing security for the Cub Scouts at a weekend campout at Neverland.

Like letting children play with nitro.

Waters and Co. are so focused on stealing wealth and giving it to their moron voters as payoffs for voting Demoncrat that they seem unable to understand the inevitable consequences of their actions - the collapse of the American economy.

Whose pockets will they then pick? I am so worried about my granddaughters' futures. Perhaps we will have to take the whole famned damily to the Philippines with us. At least there what is left of my retirement will feed us well.

I just called the Democrat side and spoke with an aide of Barney Frank. Jerk! I hung up on him. He kept asking me who I was with. I said son, never mind whom I'm with, I'm a taxpayer, nuff said.

Then I called the office with Bacchus. The committee as of today voted that down and ACORN will not be part of the equation.

Thanks for that, Surferchick!

During the campaign, didn't somebody mis-speak and say "Rooster in the henhouse?"

Whose pockets will they then pick?

Nobody's, much to the delight of the population reduction moonbats, like our current science czar.

Controlling self-reliant people is difficult. The artificial reduction of their number is even more difficult. Since the government can't control self-reliant people, the leftist goal is to get such people addicted to welfare and handouts, like in Britain, where so many people have become so overwhelmingly dependent on government that voters dare not oppose bureaucratic oppression and constant surveillance.

In seedy areas, pimps will get women hooked on crack to assure a reliable source of income. Government is no different, except that they give out cheese and Kool-Aid.

Really? Have all the the Acorn employees committed crimes? Now I must call upon you to back up your claims or apologize for your calumny. Do you have any idea how many Acorn employees there have been over the last 50 years and how few have been accused of any crimes? Of course you don't, and yet you continue to sin by spreading gross fabrications of their universal guilt. Shame, shame, shame. If you can't prove that all or even most Acorn employees have been guilty of crimes, then the Christian thing to do would be to apologize for your calumny.

Judith has a point, sort of.
Have all of the Acorn employees committed a crime?
I dunno. Possibly not.
Have all of the Acorn employees been convicted of a crime?
I dunno. I will even extend to probably not.
Is Acorn being investigated in over 20 states for voter fraud?
Yes.
Is Acorn being investigated for fraud?
Yes.
Is Acorn's boss (Bertha Lewis) claiming her organization is less than squeaky clean?
Yes.
I am not gonna say that Acorn is 100% crooked.
But I will say Acorn is (in my opinion, based on evidence presented outside of court) a rotten organization that is willing to do illegal and morally questionable things to further an agenda.
Being convicted of a crime is not the same as committing that crime. Less than 50% of crime gets reported. Of the reported crime less than 75% gets investigated. Of the investigated crime about 50% gets prosecuted. Of the prosecuted crime less than 35% gets convicted. That means out of 1000 crimes only about 65 get found guilty. Statistics taken from a 2006 Administration of Justice textbook from my neighbors law (he's a cop) library.
Based on the video evidence of Keefe & Giles and their own statements they claim 100% of the offices they entered did not turn them away. Acorn says some did (and they are remarkedly inconsistent with details and numbers). Based on the premise of "Who are you gonna believe Me or you lyin eyes". I pick guilty.

Democrats know that they owe organizations like ACORN favors for campaign contributions and votes. They'll try to repay these debts if they think no one is looking. - http://is.gd/4GBHc
