Eminent domain land sits undeveloped (Kelo)

New London, CT (AP) - Weeds, glass, bricks, pieces of pipe and shingle splinters have replaced the knot of aging homes at the site of the nation's most notorious eminent domain project.

There are a few signs of life: Feral cats glare at visitors from a miniature jungle of Queen Anne's lace, thistle and goldenrod. Gulls swoop between the lot's towering trees and the adjacent sewage treatment plant.

But what of the promised building boom that was supposed to come wrapped and ribboned with up to 3,169 new jobs and $1.2 million a year in tax revenues? They are noticeably missing.

Proponents of the ambitious plan blame the sour economy. Opponents call it a "poetic justice."

"They are getting what they deserve. They are going to get nothing," said Susette Kelo, the lead plaintiff in the landmark property rights case. "I don't think this is what the United States Supreme Court justices had in mind when they made this decision."

Is Drudge Hinting Another 9/11 Is Imminent?

“Imminent” can mean all sorts of things, like in the next few minutes, the next hour, the next day, next week but it always means pretty damned soon.

With this president’s abject and repetitive demonstrations of weakness, servitude, and remorse for America’s history, could another, or far worse, 9/11 be in the relatively immediate offing?

No one would dare attack a confident, powerful, and united nation.

Knowing that retribution would be timid or non-existent, even the most cowardly, most inept, and weakest of enemies would be encouraged to assault a country in disarray, confusion, and under domestic assault.

Such chaos furnishes an added dollop of motivation to extra-national terrorists, especially jihadists inspired by Allah.

Before terrorism in America devolved into an insignificant issue under the Obama administration, we used to hear about color-coded warning levels and “chatter,” i.e., heightened activity among potential Islamic enemies detected by elements of our national security agencies.

No more.

Instead today we hear not chatter but of overt activity, not through government channels but rather from independent news agencies such as DrudgeReport.com.

Consider just one day’s worth of headlines on Drudge: . . .

The next big attack could be exploited as the "crisis not to be wasted" in so many ways; pushing for that giant domestic security force, banning of firearms, martial law and the suspension of elections, free speech, mobility. I'm looking at a big supply of freeze dried food to go with my stock of ammunition.

I think you are right, EvilWrench. Next terror strike, which'll probably occur during Obambi's tenure, and they will use the "crisis" to go after firearms. Naturally, it will be a jihadi strike by Moslems, but the first month will be spun as a Teachable Moment on how religious extremism threatens us all, and the target of the opprobrium will be the American right. As always.

It's been almost a year since I posted this... November 10th, 2008 to be exact, shortly after Chairman 0 duped enough people (living, dead, and made-up) to vote for him. Thought it might be time for a recap, and some reflections on where he stands. Nobody was really sure then... what do you think now? It originally was a comment on a post about proposed "compulsory government service".

Let's see how much the new administration believes in freedom. Judge each new dictum on the public by the following standard:

Does it advance or retreat the concept of, "that which is not prohibited shall be mandatory"?

Seriously, liberals whined like puppies because Dubya wanted to know what suspected terrorists were checking out of the local public library. What about real freedoms? Where is the 0 going to stand on things like...

Your right to defend yourself.
To criticize things you don't like (even the 0).
To buy what you want from who you want for whatever you both agree on.
To smoke, drink, eat trans-fats, and generally treat yourself like shit if you want to.
To NOT recycle.
To shoot that damn badger that's been tearing up your tomato plants.
To send your kid to whatever school you want, even if you're poor.
To wear a McCain/Palin t-shirt, anytime, anywhere. Even if it's a dumb move.
To NOT have countless bureaucrats with the right to barge into your home and "inspect" your lifestyle (like in England).
To donate to charity or NOT as you please.
To drive a great big American gas-guzzler if you can afford it (even if you're not Al Gore) & question AGW.
To live if you're a baby.
To not have your money confiscated to pay for someone else's irresponsible behavior or ridiculous perceived 'grievances', and ESPECIALLY not for "community action groups" that oppose everything you believe in.
In fact, to keep YOUR money that YOU worked for, and save it, spend it, invest it, buy a house, blow it on whiskey and lap dances, burn it, fold it into origami cranes, keep it in a vault by your bed and roll around in it naked like Scrooge McDuck or just shove it up your ass for fun... whatever YOU want. That's one of the most basic freedoms there is. The freedom to own private property, starting with YOU. You own YOU, and the fruits of your own labor. You should be able to do whatever you please with both.

And, yes, to NOT be forced to "volunteer" for The One. Do so if you want, or don't.

Let's see where The 0 stands on actual freedoms.

So, any thoughts from y'all?

Kevin Jennings, Obama’s “Man” in Charge of “Safe Schools”

What if, say, Karl Rove a year ago got up at a gay pride event and said something akin to, “Queers should all just drop dead,” and added just for effect, “F**k them all!”

Aside from the fact many homosexuals would be positively thrilled at the latter prospect, few would be enamored of the former. Then again, some of them may wish for the former as well, those with a death wish as a consequence of their regretted lifestyle.

In any event, neither Rove nor anyone else associated with GWB would have spoken such words. If Rove or any other Bush-ite had dared even think such dastardly thoughts, they would have been found out and crucified upon the media cross of political correctness.

In the case of Kevin Jennings, Obama’s appointed “Safe Schools Czar,” officially, Assistant Deputy Secretary at the Department of Education for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools (OSDFS), he’s a whole other thing.

He can do and be and say anything he damned well pleases with not a peep out of the gay-friendly mainstream media crowd.

He may also have a death wish or, worse, a wish for millions of American kids to join him in his quest for damnation in his death spiral.

Unofficially, Jennings is another Obamian avowed homosexual appointee committed to advocating the spread of gay thinking and gay life in the nation’s schools, as sick and perverted as that thinking and life are.

He gets a free ride.

What Jennings’, a former teacher, concept of a safe school or even of the nature of civil discourse is eludes me given his background of articulated bile and outright, spoken hatred of all things decent.

Did I mention he’s homosexual?

One has to wonder just whom is being made safe by this safe schools czar. It may be the gay kids he sees as born in his own image but he sure isn’t planning to protect the mass of heterosexual kids under his domain.

Jennings is on record as having said what Karl Rove dared not say, in a church, no less, and to laughter, no less: ”We have to quit being afraid of the religious right. We also have to quit–I’m trying to find a way to say this. I’m trying not to say, ‘[F—] ‘em!’ which is what I want to say, because I don’t care what they think! [audience laughter] Drop dead!” (http://bit.ly/OZZUO)

(Incidentally, he didn’t use brackets in his 2002 speech.)

He has “advocated promoting homosexuality in schools, . . .
