I still think Obama's election was the best thing to happen to the country in generations. If the election was being held today I would have voted for him, just to have this outcome.
His Presidency is an ongoing tale of the stupidity and dangers of liberalism and a poignant contrast of the wisdom of the founding fathers. All those who needed such an education are getting one every day. It's illuminating the socialist creep that destroyed my state, California, for instance. It's bringing regular Americans together for the country, out of the woodwork in a way not seen since WW2.
Imagine if McCain had won, what we would have had to listen to for the next four years. The left would get an encore opportunity for their act during the W years. The same lefty forces that prospered from the Anti-Bush industry would get a new lease on life. Plus the McCain Presidency would have frustrated us as much as Obama is frustrating them.
It's a dream come true for others to see daily validation of everything we have always accused libs of. For as long as I can remember, our arguments were dismissed because they weren't believed. Now it's clear as day, black and white, what we stand for and what they stand for. This delineation is what I felt was always lacking because of the Lib ability to blur lines and evade clarity.
Their every move is now onscreen. And the entertainment value is light years beyond anything our side provided; what... Larry Craig? If McCain had won, their side would have continued to escape the scrutiny they are receiving now - as the poll numbers show.
I'm thrilled to exchange 2008/12 for this life lesson that all Americans needed to see firsthand. Rush was right in saying he wanted Obama to fail, because in so doing the American people will be able to recognize liberal cancer every time it comes down the road in the future.
After this, we will be a much stronger and more educated country.

Air2Air, I've thought the same thing. In opposition the liberals could always talk about how great things would be if they were in charge, how they wouldn't have made this or that mistake, how dogs and cats would live together in peace, that sort of crap.
But now they're in charge, and reality has called their bluff. No excuses now, they control all the branches of government, and they've got to deliver. That's why their collective (appropriate) sphincter is puckered up: they know they don't have a clue what they're doing, and because they don't have bipartisan cover, they will 100% own the consequences of their actions. Higher taxes? Inflation? Both coming soon, as surely as night follows day.
The ascendancy of Obama and the Dems is tough medicine for the country, a booster shot for the vaccination of the Carter years. It's kinda like giving the country a huge dose of a laxative that will purge it of liberalism for a generation.

Hennessey: Removal of the Public Option Doesn't End Mortal Threat to Private Insurers
With all the talk today about Obama’s possible introduction of the “public option” component of HealthCareReform to the ventral aspect of a large passenger conveyance, it’s worth keeping in mind something Keith Hennessey noted a little while ago. He calls the bill a “belt-and-suspenders” plan, and suggests somewhat compellingly that even with the public option gone, the bill will likely still create a framework within which private insurers are driven out of business or undergo de facto nationalization:

This is an open letter, which you are welcome to use as you wish. I want as many people as possible to know that as witnesses to mankind's inner dissatisfaction, we must upbraid Ms. Pansy42302 for being so rapacious. Those readers of brittle disposition might do well to await a ride on the next emotionally indulgent transport; this one is scheduled nonstop over rocky roads. As soon as you're strapped in I'll announce something to the effect of how Pansy42302 believes that she is a model citizen. Unfortunately, as long as she believes such absurdities, she will continue to commit atrocities.
Seeing Pansy42302 play fast and loose with the truth is a nauseating and disgusting spectacle. There are several logical contradictions in Pansy42302's position on this matter. For example, she likes to cite poll results that "prove" that society is screaming for her revenge fantasies. Really? Have you ever been contacted by one of her pollsters? Chances are good that you never have been contacted and never will be. Otherwise, the polls would show that of all of Pansy42302's exaggerations and incorrect comparisons, one in particular stands out: "Pansy42302 has been robbed of all she does not possess." I don't know where she came up with this, but her statement is dead wrong.
The key to Pansy42302's soul is her longing for the effortless, irresponsible, automatic consciousness of an animal. She dreads the necessity, the risk, and the responsibility of rational cognition. As a result, I realize that some people may have trouble reading this letter. Granted, not everyone knows what "succinylsulphathiazole" means, but it's nevertheless easy to understand that while we do nothing, those who lash out at everyone and everything in sight are gloating and smirking. And they will keep on gloating and smirking until we subject Pansy42302's newsgroup postings to the rigorous scrutiny they warrant. If you don't think that Pansy42302's hatchet jobs are just another signpost marking our long, steep cultural descent, then you've missed the whole point of this letter. Still, the issue of what to do about Ms. Pansy42302's raffish wheelings and dealings is far from settled. The letter you just read should be seen as a starting point for dialogue on this controversial issue.

My original goal for the letter was to scrutinize Miss Andy's remarks point by point. Unfortunately, Andy's (that's YOU pansy90210, or andy42303 whatever the hell you call your confused self) focus wanders so wildly that she never actually finishes any of her points. I think you will notice this in the ensuing discussion. The rest of this letter is focused exclusively on Andy, not because I harbor any ill-will towards her but because it seems clear that she is bent on smearing and defaming me. But we ought to look at the matter in a broader framework before we draw final conclusions on the subject: We see that Andy has been trying for some time to convince people that we should be grateful for the precious freedom to be robbed and kicked in the face by such a noble creature as her. Don't believe her hype! Andy has just been offering that line as a means to tinker about with a lot of halfway prescriptions.
Andy is stepping over the line when she attempts to cause people to betray one another and hate one another—way over the line. I use such language purposefully—and somewhat sardonically—to illustrate how that's just one side of the coin. The other side is that she asserts that anyone who dares to address the continued social injustice shown by infantile backbiters can expect to suffer hair loss and tooth decay as a result. Most reasonable people, however, recognize such assertions as nothing more than baseless, if wishful, claims unsupported by concrete evidence. On a closing note, I hope that this letter, while incomplete, informal, and having no authority except its own inner strength and conviction, has clearly demonstrated to you that the "freedom" that Miss Andy is always so keen to talk about is a sheep's freedom to choose the patch of grass in which it will graze while growing wool and mutton for its owners.

Written like the intellectual vacuum that you are.
Hate, predjudice, and vengeance? For what and against whom?
Yes. How dare we speak out against incorrectly socializing the nation. After all, we should just silently accept socialism, since it's always worked so gosh darn well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nkPYTiWx4c
Lunacy? To quote the great imbecile himself, "Let me be clear," as history clearly teaches us, only leftist ideology can be classified as lunacy.
Historically, it is the ideology that has to be forced upon people unwillingly, and which repels thinking individuals naturally.
This of course is evidenced by places like Detroit, which socialist locusts swarmed into, devoured the fruits of capitalist labor, and abandoned it leaving behind an empty husk. Or of course the mass exodus now leaving the ever so progressive state of California.
Like some here however (you), I don't cowardly throw a rock and run from an argument.
Or maybe unlike the lazy socialist parasites like you who have time to lay around all day and night at their computer because you live off the sweat of capitalists, some may actually have obligations and priorities other than to monitor blog comments 24/7 and spend hours typing away sparring with Obamunist cultist drones.

Aside from Fez's asinine attempt to make a rational statement, J's implied accusation that I'm a "lazy socialist parasite" that has "time to lay around all day and night at their computer because you live off the sweat of capitalists" is not only a prime example of his ignorance and drive to be dishonest, but it confirms my original post as well (forgive the run on sentence).
I understand that it's the norm for you bobbing head lapdogs to spew anything regardless of the relevance, honesty, or if you have an iota of a clue what you're talking about. But do any of you ever offer solutions? Do you think that the GOP is great for being the party of "no" on every front, never having an idea of it's own? That's fine with you? Being advocates for "billionaires for wealthcare" is cool? Is our insurance coverage just fine? You never make a stand. You are cowards by any stretch.

Like the Erlking in Goethe's famous poem, the maleficence of Lord Pansy 90210's ideas can sometimes be imperceptible. The purpose of this letter is therefore to expose the uncongenial nature of Lord 90210's orations and let you draw your own conclusions about Lord 90210's motives. Here's my side of the story: This is a fundamental and obvious truth that Lord 90210 entirely ignores. I explained the reason for that just a moment ago. If you don't mind, though, I'll go ahead and explain it again. To begin with, we can never return to the past. And if we are ever to move forward to the future, we have to stand uncompromised in a world that's on the brink of Lord 90210-induced disaster.
Lord 90210 claims to have read somewhere that it's okay for him to indulge his every whim and lust without regard for anyone else or for society as a whole. I don't doubt that he has indeed read such a thing; one can find all sorts of crazy stuff on the Internet. More reliable sources, however, tend to agree that if Lord 90210 thinks his witticisms represent progress, he should rethink his definition of progress. He's a psychologically defective person. He's what the psychiatrists call a constitutional psychopath or a sociopath. Lord 90210 demands obeisance from his emissaries. Then, once they prove their loyalty, Lord 90210 forces them to force square pegs into round holes.
I can fight only for something that I love, love only what I respect, and respect only what I at least know. Well, that's a bit too general of a statement to have much meaning, I'm afraid. So let me instead explain my point as follows: Lord 90210 indulges in various forms of verbal savagery to conceal the fact that he weeps crocodile tears for those who suffer as a result of his prank phone calls. Well, that's another story. To get back to my main point, I ought to mention that I'm not a mumpish person. I'd like nothing more than to extend my hand in friendship to Lord 90210's factotums and convey my hope that in the days to come we can work together to take advantage of a rare opportunity to discuss the advantages of two-parent families, the essential role of individual and family responsibility, the need for uniform standards of civil behavior, and the primacy of the work ethic. Unfortunately, knowing them, they'd rather smear and defame me because that's what Lord 90210 wants. Let me end by citing my standard hate-mail response form letter:
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. One question, though: Do you actually want Lord Pansy 90210 to offer stones instead of bread to the emotional and spiritual hungers of the world? Because that's what'll happen if we don't build a coalition of stouthearted people devoted to stopping Lord 90210.
Posted by: Fez at September 2, 2009 5:05 PM

"have time to lay around all day and night at their computer because you live off the sweat of capitalists, some may actually have obligations and priorities other than to monitor blog comments 24/7 and spend hours typing away sparring with Obamunist cultist drones."
Considering the very FACT that no one here has a clue to my work ethnics, it proves that;
a) He/she/they will just make up anything, regardless of the truth, to promote their agenda. That basically means they're liars.
b) He/she/they are so prejudiced of anyone that doesn't march lockstep with them in every way that they automatically label them as they desire.
Neither is a healthy quality in the real world.

Well, Doug...start a blog. Even V the Kitten can attest, it is feast or famine. I plug away at that one, and do fine at others. So be it. Ar my feelings hurt? No. Further, isn't it just a world of class for someone to speak ill of the dead? I say that for both the left and the right. Reagan, while being displayed for a week was a bit much, but his impact on people was sincere, the Michael Jackson stuff is overkill, but he was a talent. Yet, what can be said of the right-wing regarding Paul Wellstone or Ted Kennedy? You guys have taken vile behavior to a new level. It is conceivable you were an ass Doug.

I got a kick out of the idea of conservatives "marching in lockstep". Next up: housecats performing synchronized swimming.
Seems to me this thread tidily sums up what happens when a conservative is in charge. Everybody gets to say what they want. No one is silenced. Liberals proceed to speak in postmodern gibberish and egg each other on until they're frustrated to distraction with their impotence. Then they conclude that anyone who doesn't agree with them is stupid. They proceed to whine about being silenced while slowly taking over the public space until there's little room left for anyone else. But fortunately, the great diversity of opinion and lack of enforcement or management of any type ensures that everyone, including whiny liberals, can just do their thing as they see fit. Those who earn respect, get it, and those who don't, are ridiculed. Yep, life under conservativism works pretty well.

Although I imagine, as I've said, this will just be a stay-in-school-learning's-cool speech, I also think he's going to smuggle in some stealth liberalism. The boy can't help himself.
So, should you keep your kid home that day?
There is recent precedent -- liberals the nation over kept their kids home on the day of Obama's inauguration to watch history being made. Or somethin'.
So, it's not as if politics haven't been used in the recent past to declare a mental health day.

Brits May Eliminate Tonsillectomies
The British papers have been on a tear recently exposing the fundamental flaws in their socialized health care system.
Today The Times of London exposes the out-of-control cost of the British system. Rather than controlling costs, as is promised by American supporters of a "one-plan, one nation" single payer system, the British have created a bureaucratic monster:

Well, alot of people in our country have, and we are supposed to throw them to the curb? Wonderful Christian values you have there.
Apparently you have no clue what Christian values are. That doesn't come as a suprise, because you've admitted many times you are not actually a Christian. On that note, don't preach what you don't believe.
Continuing, no, we don't owe those people you speak of a single thing. Not.one.single.thing. That's why charity is, well, charity. Not that you'd know anything about it, seeing as you can only be generous with other people's money. But maybe, as a refresher, you'd like to see the breakdown on charitable giving from liberals versus conservatives just one more time.
I know it's an old link, but read it at your leisure.
The takeaway quote:
But what really astounded him was the amount of giving: In 2000, he says, conservative households gave 30 percent more money to charity than liberal households.
The discrepancy wasn't a function of income; on average, liberal families annually earn 6 percent more than conservative families. The difference in giving held throughout every income level. Indeed, poor conservative families gave a larger percentage of income than wealthy liberal families.
Basically, you and yours are stingy, disgusting liars.
Posted by: cowlove at September 3, 2009 8:24 AM
I note when the rich young noble approached Jesus Christ and asked what he should do, Christ said, "Sell all your positions, give your wealth to the poor."
Note what Christ didn't say. He didn't say, "Give me your wealth so I can take care of the poor." He didn't say, "Give all your wealth to the government so they will take care of the poor." And he sure as heck did not say, "Lobby the government to take away other people's wealth and redistribute it to the poor."
Two things conservatives understand that liberals don't. 1.) Moral obligations are personal, you can't proxy them to the government. 2.) A government can't do as good a job taking care of the poor and unfortunate as charities do. Government has incentives to keep people dependent, charities don't. Charities have to take care with how they use their funding and resources, governments don't.
Commonsense stuff, really. But liberals seem incapable of comprehending basic common sense.

Ghost:
On that note, ever been laid off? Ever go w/o insurance?
I sure have. The company I had spent a few very good years at was bought by Rockwell Collins in April 2002. Within a month, RC had reduced a 70-person company to a 35-person company, and I, having the least seniority among the software engineers, was laid off.
2002 was a bad time to be an out-of-work software engineer. The .com bust of 2000 had been filling the ranks of unemployed software folks rather steadily for 22 years. The first couple of job fairs I went to, the line of applicants was out the door and down the street. I mentioned to a hiring manager that - looking at my education, accomplishments, and diversity of skills - I had a hard time believing that there wasn't a company out there (I was willing to relocate anywhere) that couldn't use me. Her response: "It's not that they don't need you, it's that they don't need 10,000 of you...", her way of saying that there were literally thousands of us, all with comparable resumes, out there chasing what few jobs were available.
So, I filed for unemployment (which your previous company pays, as you were paying into it the entire time you were working for them) and job-hunted like crazy. I could have kept my health insurance from my previous company for a year and a half through COBRA, but the monthly payments were too high. The unemployment benefits were meager, and had a 6-month limit.
I was unemployed for 13 months. I took a couple of menial labor jobs to tide me over and, as I had sold my computer, kept at my job search from the local public library. In the 12th and 13th months, I was in a homeless shelter, and my possessions had been reduced to my car, my clothes, and my (pay as you go) cell phone.
However, at no time did I think that the government had the duty to provide me with health care. At no time, as I passed the enormous houses of the well-to-do on my way to my menial jobs, did I think that any one of them, or the government for that matter, owed me anything at all; or that because they had money and I didn't that I was therefore entitled to some of theirs. As I went to church each Sunday, one located in a rather well-to-do part of town, at no time did I think that any of them were somehow "less Christian" because they were not hard at work lobbying the government to take other people's money and give it to me; nor, if they were aware of my situation, did I think of any of them as "less Christian" if they did not whip out their wallets and give me money. Occasionally some folks offer me a few bucks, and I was grateful; but at no time did I think that those that didn't were committing any injustice against me.
So , Ghost - and others who confuse the lack of the sense of entitlement to, or lack of the desire to have, a government solution to the shortcomings of the American health care system - please do not lecture us about "Christian values", a topic I am rather sure you have little more than a superficial understanding of (you really don't want to get into a theological debate with the likes of me, do you?), as saddling the government of any state or nation with the responsibility to provide the necessities of life to each and every one of its citizens is nowhere to be found in the corpus of Christian moral teaching outside of the thoroughly discredited liberation theology (quite the fad in '80s Central America). And please stop accusing those of us who think a massive government expansion of power and authority in American health care is unwise and will lead to many unintended consequences - up to and including a system that provides both less quality and quantity of health care - of "throwing [anyone] to the curb".
That is all. Carry on.

I've gone without insurance and been laid off. in fact, one of the times I was without insurance my older son ended up in the intensive care unit with asthma. Guess what? I paid that bill out of pocket even though I was making squat for wages at the time, and the cost between the ER and ICU was exhorbitant even for a one night stay. It sucked, but it was a temporary set back. Life isn't all rainbows and lollipops, you know.

Coming to a site like this I do my best to try to figure out how so many conservatives are so easily manipulated. By who? Faux Nooz, Dimbaugh, Scammity, Ailes, Murdoch, Delay...
I find it hard to get angry at you people as I only feel sorry for you.
THEY say, just a few months ago, SOCIALISM.
YOU believe and start carping the same.
THEY say, Obama spend money, grandchildren debt.
YOU believe it and start carping the same.
THEY say, Liberal evil, everyone but us evil.
YOU believe it and start carping the same.
News flash dimwits, and excuse for using less than cordial language, I'm sure you've heard far worse from your own mouths.
1-
THERE IS NO SOCIALISM dumbasses. We still have representative government. YOU don't like who got elected. Fine. YOU don't have to. But you do have to live with it. Sorry, that is how democracy works. And this is a democracy. One of the many forms. You lost. Stop crying about it. You get to vote again in 4 years. Thats it.
2-
National debt when Bush took office, 5.7 trillion. National debt when Bush left office, 10.7 trillion.
Bush and the Republican'ts in Congress spent 5 trillion dollars that your grandkids will have to pay for. Where was the outrage then dumbasses? No where, because he was your daddy and you were fine with whatever your daddy did. YOU voted the people into office who destroyed the economy, and who spent 700 billion dollars on a stimulus plan last November. NOW you seem to want to put the blame for all that mess on the new administration? YOU created the mess with your votes. YOU did. Conservatives RUN from personal responsibility for their actions. It is the most vile human weakness. YOU created the mess and now want to blame it on someone else. You are children pretending to be adults. At least admit your mistake and take responsibility for destroying the economy and causing the massive government spending that resulted.
You won't, because in your heasts you are not adults.
3-
The other Americans who aren't like you are not evil. That is just what your brainwashing overseers want you to believe so you will do shit against your own best interest. This is the sad part. I'm terribly sorry you are like this, but good lord help yourselves. THINK. You don't want to admit you are brainwashed. Sorry, you are. It isn't everyone else.
Lastly, the freak here who simply cuts and pastes other posters posts and then edits them is the best representative for all the conservatives here. You have no original thoughts, you can't argue on your own, you can't hold a debate, you don't think for yourselves. Your only hope is gimmicks and smoke and mirrors, you know the very foundation of Faux Nooz.
The conservative brain at work...

The only industrialized nation who doesn't provide healthcare, Goats? So, it's working so well that Sweden, the poster child for Socialism, is backing away from it, as fast as they can back-pedal? The Soviet Union/Russia? France? Britain? Spain? Yeah, nationalized health care works well over there. If you'd pay attention to anything but DU, Kos, or PuffHo's, you'd find out that Britain is talking about forbidding tonsilectomies, among a host of other procedures. Look up the rates of prostate cancer, breast cancer in your socialist paradises, it isn't pretty.
But, being a lib, your feeble mind is made up, and facts are just an inconvenience to get in the way of Socialist health care.
As to the "half-wit" comment, thank you. Coming from someone of your persuasion, it's a compliment.
Posted by: UpNorth at September 4, 2009 12:50 PM
Geronimo, let me ask a simple question, well maybe 2 but they pertain to the same theory.
If your house is on fire, does the government owe you, or your neighbor, or the elderly couple down the street, a fire brigade to protect your/their property and lives?
Is it justifiable for government intrusion of police to protect you and said associates from gangs, rapist, vandals, et al?
I think there's a huge difference in the health care issue that supersedes job displacement or bailing out those down on their luck. That's an issue that seems to be dismissed by most posters here.
