Moonbat Tech: Exploding Ecofridge

Thanks to green technology, the kitchen is now an exciting place to be:

A series of violent fridge explosions is believed to have been caused by leaks of 'environmentally-friendly' coolant. … The problem appears to result from a widespread switch to 'Greenfreeze' technology over the past 15 years and the use of isobutane and propane hydrocarbon gases as refrigerants.
Previously CFCs and HFCs were used in fridges but these gases damaged the ozone layer and contributed significantly to global warming. There are now more than 300 million Greenfreeze fridges around the world.

Unlike global warming, exploding refrigerators are real. If the isobutane leaks, it builds up in the fridge and can be ignited by a spark when the thermostat goes off.

Mother-of-two Kathy Cullingworth, 55, is taking legal advice after her Creda fridge exploded three weeks ago at her home in Normanton, West Yorkshire.

This caused over £10,000 worth of damage.

A similar fate befell Carline Preece and her family at their home in West Bromwich.
Fortunately Mrs Preece, 44, her husband Michael, 45, and their four children were in bed when the fridge blew at 6am.
Mrs Preece thought an earthquake had struck. She said: 'The doors were ripped in half, the front door has a gaping hole in it and all the windows were blown open by the force.'

But of course, if we're going to save the thriving polar bears from the nonexistent global warming crisis, sacrifices need to be made.

Exploded refrigerators serve as habitats for woodland creatures.

So much for the green movment the freaky green fridges explode too bad green stupidheads why dont you go and get your granola bars out of your fridges and hope you dont get blown to kingdom come

There used to be problems with the old refrigerators when the ammonia refrigerant would leak out; people being poisoned and whatnot, but nothing like this. What psychopath approved isobutane and propane as refrigerants?

You suppose this is why we haven't heard from Goatse lately?

When he got the munchies after smoking so much weed during a revolutionary sit in at the U led by his consciousness awareness group, he went to the fridge and......BOOM!

Or could it be that he gets schooled over and over and over and over.......

Exploding eco-fridge, eh? What we really need is an exploding eco-FREAK. Now, I would pay to see that happen!

Yes...people like the Preece's. Too bad they were in bed at the time, not having a meal in the kitchen.

There's often, like almost always, a physical reason why things are like they are:

1) Oil based fuels vs windmills - energy density/energy transfer

2) CFCs vs isobutane - volatility

3) Coal heating vs photovoltaic cells - energy storage and transduction

4) Sandwich vs wrap - wraps are tasteless and can't hold this damn food together!

Go around trying out quick and easy substitutes for the original invention and fails are inevitable.

I got my fridge before all this stupid GO GREEN crap became popular but after this i have a feeling that the green movment might be puttering to a stop

There once was a man from Brookline,
Who feared CO2 was as lethal as strychnine.
For the planet he wept,
While others slept-
Dreaming of the warm sunshine.

Why is it the the 'green alternative is almost always lethal. The formula for the insulation on teh Space Shuttle external tank was change to something more eco-friendly during the Clinton era.Unfortunately, it tended to fall off in chunks during ascent, which caused the destruction of Space Shuttle Columbia

Unfortunately this has been an issue waiting to happen. In the deluge of products to replace good old R-12, in use for 50ish years, and so safe it was used as a propellant in asthma inhallers!(ammonia was used prior to that and is still used in RV 3 way fridges, very nasty stuff) Now we (Canada anyway) have to use R134a (fairly safe, but quite toxic when burned) or one of the blends that we find in auto stores, you know the "better" than R-12 replacement kits for the home mechanic to recharge the family auto, all of the ones that I have seen use some form of isobutane or propane as a carrier for the refrigerant oil.I am glad to see this is getting some coverage, it's been a point of some contention in the industry that this could not happen. In my tenure in this field I even ran across an old farmer who had patched his leaking A/C hose on his tractor with rubber hose and hose clamps and then filled the A/C with propane gas!! Works great as a refrigerant until the boooom!!!

I thought the ozone layer stopped UV light, which is not the same wavelength as what CO2 absorbs.

THERE ONCE WAS A ECO GREEN WACKO,WHO ONLY SMOKED ALL GREEN TOBACO,HIS FIDGE IT EXPLODED,BECUASE HE WAS LOADED,AND WAS BLOWN ALL THE WAY TO IRAQO
