Feds "Loan" Half a Billion for Stupid Electric Cars to be Built Overseas
It's a good thing our government is so flush with cash that it can give out half a billion dollars in "loans" (that it will never see again) so that some guys in California can design luxury hybrids that will be built overseas.
The Energy Department said Tuesday it would lend $528.7 million to Fisker from a $25 billion fund to develop fuel-efficient vehicles.
Fisker, launched in 2007, is expected to release its first vehicle, the Karma, in the summer of 2010. The $87,900 plug-in luxury sports sedan, which has solar panels on the roof and allows motorists to drive gas-free for 50 miles, will be built in Finland by Valmet Automotive.
Wow! 50 whole miles! Gosh, everybody will want one of those! And it runs on electricity! Which doesn't require any consumption of resources or damage to the environment at all to produce, because it's magic!
Energy Kommissarr Stephen Chu announced that this glorious investment of the people's money would "create or save 5,000" jobs... a number that still had tiny bits of toilet paper clinging to it from the place he pulled it out of.

How can anybody in the government say with a straight face, presumably blush-free, "save or create....." when they know the whole world laughs at them whenever they drag that out? OTOH, maybe they don't know.

Either it's a race to destroy America or the Obama administration is grossly incompetent. Maybe a bit of both?

Not surprised, pretentious eco-limo's for America hating fat cat limousine liberals. From the Party of Hypocrisy. I'm sure Moore and Letterman already have their order in.

Plus, how can someone seriously argue "it will create or save 5,000 jobs" when the end result is the product will be built overseas (production is where the majority of the jobs are in that industry)?
Are we going to magically need more salesmen?

They said it would save or create (LOL) 5000 jobs, but they didn't said the jobs would be here. Thanks for that, assholes.

Missing a few minor details in this post are we?
"A fully-charged Karma burns no fuel for the first 50 miles. Venture further and the gasoline engine turns a generator to charge the lithium ion battery. Once the 50-mile electric range has been exceeded, the car operates as a normal hybrid vehicle. This balance of electric and gas range makes it entirely possible that Karma drivers who charge their car overnight and commute less than 50 miles a day will achieve an average fuel economy of 100 mpg (2.4L/100km) per year."
