Bloomberg: Food Rules Are for Thee, Not for Me
Nanny Nazi Mike Bloomberg — who insists on regulating every last bite New Yorkers put in their own mouths — has dietary habits that must put his cardiologist into shock:
He dumps salt on almost everything, even saltine crackers. He devours burnt bacon and peanut butter sandwiches. He has a weakness for hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken, washing them down with a glass of merlot.
And his snack of choice? Cheez-Its.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has become New York City's nutritional nag, banning the use of trans fats, forcing chain restaurants to post calorie counts and exhorting diners to consume less salt. Now he is at it again, directing his wrath at sugary drinks in a new series of arresting advertisements that ask subway riders: "Are you pouring on the pounds?"
But an examination of what enters the mayoral mouth reveals that Mr. Bloomberg is an omnivore with his own glaring indulgences, many of them at odds with his own policies. …
Under his watch, the city has declared sodium an enemy, asking restaurants and food manufacturers to voluntarily cut the salt in their dishes by 20 percent or more, and encouraging diners to "shake the habit" by asking waiters for food without added salt.
But Mr. Bloomberg, 67, likes his popcorn so salty that it burns others' lips. (At Gracie Mansion, the cooks deliver it to him with a salt shaker.) He sprinkles so much salt on his morning bagel "that it's like a pretzel," said the manager at Viand, a Greek diner near Mr. Bloomberg's Upper East Side town house.
Not even pizza is spared a coat of sodium. When the mayor sat down to eat a slice at Denino's Pizzeria Tavern on Staten Island recently, this reporter spotted him applying six dashes of salt to it.
Bloomberg also smoked cigarettes for years before imposing a ban on smoking in restaurants.
Hypocrisy is no hindrance to the careers of moonbat authoritarians. For example, Comrade Obama ran on a "firm pledge" not to raise any taxes on anyone making less than $250,000/year. In an appalling display of contempt for the dupes who elected him, within two weeks of taking office he signed legislation doubling the federal tax on cigarettes — a regressive tax that primarily hurts the working class — even though Chairman Zero is a nicotine fiend himself.
On a tip from Megan.

Now somehow Bloomberg (w/ whom I do not agree on this) is a Nazi. Bloomberg, hmmmmmm, that's a Scandanavian name, right?
What is less Patriotic than this type of mindless inane slander?
Posted by: brs at September 24, 2009 7:56 AM
Why are you capitalizing "patriotic?" To give it an aura of reverence that you really don't attribute to it?
I don't know how Mayor Mike keeps getting elected. He's such an obnoxious nag and nanny, and that stunt he pulled to skirt term limits was over the top. Rudy stepped down, even though nobody wanted him to at the time, because that was the rule of law.

It's pretty simple, liberals don't have to practice what they preach as long as they merely say they're in favor of something. It's about how they're perceived, not how they really are. I call it "The Show".
Case in point: I have a good, albeit misguided, mostly liberal friend. She claims to be a vegetarian because "using animals for food is wrong", but will eat gravy on her food, pork and beans, and chicken broth, among other things. When I poke fun at her for it, she turns red and tells me to stop. She can't/won't argue her position, because she knows she's just paying lip service to anyone she can trumpet it to, and isn't what she says she is.

...liberals don't have to practice what they preach...
Conservatives always do right? That's why Republicans never get caught banging dudes and Red States have higher divorce rates, benefit more from fed $ and have lower church attendance than Blue States.
I'm not even saying that libs aren't hypocrites much of the time. They are. But this notion that hypocrisy and corruption are concentrated on the left or the right cannot be believed by anyone w/ the slightest scintilla of skepticism. It's absurd.

Dont do what I do, I'm the example of what YOU shouldnt do, pass the salt, gotta match?
Posted by: czuch at September 24, 2009 9:37 AM
I made no mention of Republicans (I'm not one), as far as I'm concerned they're no better than the Democrats. I don't consider being a conservative and a Republican mutually exclusive, as some people would have you think.

Hey brs, hypocrisy reigns supreme in the political world, and most thinking adults understand that. The difference between liberals and conservatives is the libs expect everyone else to do as they say, not as they do. The greatest example of that is the recently departed FatBoy Kennedy himself.
Bloomberg can be the guinea pig to test the theory that salt is not good for you. If he strokes out someday soon, well, then I guess it's not just a theory and I'll cut back a bit too.

The difference is, demoncrats pass laws banning transfats and forcing others to cut their carbon emissions... while placing themselves above the law. No Republican has tried to outlaw consensual adult sex, as far as I can see.

benefit more from fed $
Of course, that's why blue states got huge sums of money in the porkulus bill that dwarfed the amount red states got. Ignorance to the facts, common trait among those on the left.

How many repubs talk about family values and the sanctity of marriage, then cheat, bang guys, bang hookers and get divorced?
Are you drunk to write something this stupid? Or are you fucking with me?

Our pet troll brs ("bs" for short) is trotting out the standard Leftie talking point about how Red States have 'more federal spending than they pay in taxes'.
We've heard it for years, and it's been discussed in previous threads.
The rationale that brs is parroting is that those of us here in the shadow of the Biden mansion are not doing our fair share because Dover AFB and other federal spending adds up to more than the three counties (the lower two of which are mostly rural) that make up the State of Delaware pay in Federal income taxes.
You can break it down further, state by state and it is NOT what the Left presents it to be....but, hey, we wouldn't want to confuse brs with any more facts.....

"No Republican has tried to outlaw consensual adult sex, as far as I can see. "
So you never read any of Scalia's opinions. He thinks gov't can ban contraception, gay sex and threesomes. Remember: just becasue the mainstream of the country keeps social conservatives from making these things laws doesn't mean those elements are any less advocating of them.

Very anecdotal. But if we're going to go...
And in Mass, where I live, do we give more than we get? Yes. Yes we do. The money doesn't flow from MS to MA, it goes the other way.
Even though we can't possibly have a better economy because our socialist policies preclude that. But hey look - we do! And we give the fat off the land to you people. Thanks for doing all of the complaining for us.
We also go to church more - we just shut the fuck up about it and keep it between us and God.

RE: Posted by: brs at September 24, 2009 1:21 PM
Actually, brs, there IS a definite difference in misbehavior between the political Right and Left.
You hold up to ridicule some of the goofball politicians with an "R" after their name that have done dumb things, and no one here argues with any of that.
We hold up to ridicule Democrats like Barney Frank, Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, et al who did things that were not only stupid, but often illegal, and in many cases outright criminal, and you tell us we're being unfair.
You ask the rhetorical qoestion,".. are you f#cking with me?"
No, we're not - but you're most definitely f#cking with us by coming 'round here selling that same old Liberal double-standard nonsense.

I think we'fe identified brs' problem. Like Ted Kennedy, he's a "Masshole".
Posted by: TonyD95B at September 24, 2009 1:37 PM
Like I always say, when the R's misbehave, they don't hang around. When the D's misbehave, the party circles the wagons and keeps them on as the honored ones. Kennedy? Rangel? A bunch of cabinet-level appointees? The R's may not be perfect, but the D's...
