Big Government, Unions Go After Michigan Babysitters
Posted by Van Helsing at September 28, 2009 9:43 AM
There is a reason Michigan is crumbling toward Third World economic status: the state has been run into the ground by the same sort of fanatically pro-union authoritarian liberals that now control the federal government. In the latest outrage, a woman could face jail time for volunteering to watch her neighbors' kids, apparently because this is seen by the authorities as a threat to the unionization of babysitters.
A West Michigan woman says the state is threatening her with fines and possibly jail time for babysitting her neighbors' children.
Lisa Snyder of Middleville says her neighborhood school bus stop is right in front of her home. It arrives after her neighbors need to be at work, so she watches three of their children for 15-40 minutes until the bus comes.
The Department of Human Services received a complaint that Snyder was operating an illegal child care home. DHS contacted Snyder and told her to get licensed, stop watching her neighbors' kids, or face the consequences.
"It's ridiculous." says Snyder. "We are friends helping friends!" She added that she accepts no money for babysitting. …
A DHS spokesperson would not comment on the specifics of the case but says they have no choice but to comply with state law, which is designed to protect Michigan children.
If the boot heel being ground into your face isn't intended to save the polar bears, then it must be to protect the children.
Ms. Snyder could have saved herself some grief by succumbing to a union before agreeing to do any favors for her neighbors. Via The Blogprof, here's some background on how Michigan Democrats have been forcing even babysitters to unionize and cough up dues that will then be used to elect more Democrats.
When Comrade Obama rams through card check as promised, the entire country will share Michigan's dismal fate.

Wait a minute. These two women are FOR unions, except when it comes to themselves?
They MUST be Democrats...

Wait... you right-wing types are supposed to end every conversation with "won't someone PLEASE think of the children" (especially the unborn ones...) - where's the support? This is exactly the sort of 'child-protection' legislation that all the 'family-values' repub types should be all over...
While this is completely foolish, the law as written is there to prevent specific harm to children from unqualified/unsafe individuals babysitting children under false pretenses. It has been on the books since the 70's... and this is, as far as I am aware, the first such incredibly stupid application of the law.
This is not about the unions, it is just a stupid law. And now that it is in hte public view... are we taking bets on how long until it changes?

Unions were made so that the employees had a collective voice against potentially oppressive/abusive employers. Therefore, unionizing babysitters would be like a business owner forming a union to protest against (him/her)self. Stupidity at its finest.
Unions are a cancer on this country.

So when I'm taking care of my granddaughters after school until my son stops by to pick them up I have to have a license?? Bite me.
And please.... don't give any ideas to these fascist bastards up here in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota. We've got enough statist insanity as it is.

This has nothing to do with "caring about the children" and everything to do with stealing money (i.e. collecting forced dues) and C-O-N-T-R-O-L (Wow! Coincidentally just like ObamaCare!).

Apparently she has pissed off one of her liberal stay-at-home-all-day-because-I'm-on-welfare neighbors that just can't mind their own business. And rather than think of the children's safety has to do something hateful for spite. MORE of the Party of Compassion's hypocrisy. The only time they do think of the children is to indoctrinate them in the schools (or lately for the benefit of the pedophiles).

Obama IS Centrist .....for a Marxist. Bill and Hillary Clinton are Liberals - sometimes even left of Center Moderates - for comparison. Bill Clinton became more conservative in his 2nd term after he saw the political writing on the wall after the 1994 elections. Bush went the other direction - unfortunately, leaving as a wishy washy right of center moderate on domestic issues.

I view the unions that I imagine a small Chicago business owner in the 20s viewed the mafia. I pay my extortion money and hope they leave me alone.

Maybe I have Alzheimer's, I'm so confused.
It seems just last year that dissent was patriotic, but I must have been mistaken because now conformity is patriotic.
Or the above case. I think I remember being told "It takes a Village", but I must have it wrong because in Michigan it takes a for-profit union worker or government agent.
And could someone remind me, are we at war with Eurasia or Oceania?
Sincerely,
Befuddled in America

Heh. When the left was calling for Bush's head over the Saddam-WMD fiasco, I wondered whatever happened to "doesn't rise to the level of impeachable offenses." Suddenly, honesty in our leaders was in vogue again.
Now of course, it's no longer chic to call the President a liar.
