Lipstick on a Pig
Business owners who think it takes more than lipstick to make a pig pretty will continue to escape the statist dystopia of California in droves.
Unfortunately, the federal leviathan soon will have imposed California levels of taxation, regulation, and all around moonbattery on the entire country. Then there will be nowhere to escape.
On a tip from Morris.

As a lifetime Californian I have battled the desire to leave. But I'll stay and fight. It's a strange feeling to agree 100% with friends in surrounding states about the Cali cancer spreading there.
It would be much worse to be one of you guys in AZ, NV, OR etc. to have to watch as the disease prgressses. I sympathize.

Yes there is a place to escape to but I'm not telling where. Do your research, there are small Countries that still beleive in freedom and free markets.

Just a week or so ago, a major bank in Texas collapsed and was taken over by the Fed. That bank had billions loaned to California home owners, as well as many millions on loan to California land developers and building contractors. It was said to be one of the top two or three major bank failures in the history of the country.
Indicative, I suspect, of things to come for states run by liberals. Without major federal handouts every one of those states would be bankrupt right now.
Those of us who live in states run by "other than liberal Democrats" are none too happy to be paying your bills.

While there may exist other countries on the planet with higher economic freedom, you have to consider the trade-off. Were China or the US to become intensely imperialistic (don't whine about US military bases on foreign soil, or those countries' economies "ruling" other folks; I mean something like the US "forcibly annexing" all of Central and South America), there's nothing that a small country like Ireland or Singapore could do.

Interestingly, when I was living in the People's Republic of Minnesota around 2000, South Dakota was pitching the same kind of radio ads there. But they weren't nearly as fun as this one.

I lived in the Bay Area for 18 years. 4 years ago (at the peak of the housing market) I sold-out and fled. It was the best move I ever made - particularly since I remained employed by the same company. It is so nice to live in Texas where they still have free speech, respect the 2nd Amendment, and have no State income tax. The Bay Area was very oppressive to me - you either toe the liberal line or you are an outcast. Even my assignment on this project in Hawai'i - one of the most liberal states - it is not nearly as oppressive as California. The liberals here are respectful of all cultures and points of view - even conservative ones. You can have a conservative bumper sticker, and unlike the Bay Area, your car doesn't get keyed.
With respect all respect to A2A, blue, & Oiao - I don't see how you do it.

Jimbo - sheer inertia - & tourist women in bikinis during the winter down at the Club Baby Seal!!
plus I cheat on my taxes
Posted by: blue at August 29, 2009 1:01 PM
blue - so your recent Alaska trip was a business write-off? But you're rich & retired. :-) Plus - I suppose San Diego could be considered an 'island of semi-conservatism' (sorta like Fresno and Bakersfield only with a beach?)
Posted by: Jimbo at August 29, 2009 1:09 PM
Aside from being a ditzy liberal, that chick is SMOKIN' hot.
Anyone know who she is?

Jimbo - yea, a business trip, yea, that's my story......
(did I tell you I flew the Antigun Pass in a single engine plane at 100 ft AGL?)
whole bunch of republicans down here, more each day...we gonna succeed from all the liberals north of Camp Pendleton
down here the town of Ocean Beach is considered 7 acres surrounded by sanity... well, we be the sanity

I'd love to move to Texas, but I have this weird thing about cold weather; I like it.
So I'm thinking... Idaho?

blue - I've never flown Atigun - But I've done Ruth Amphitheater from Talkeetna - I've seen the Atigun pictures, though - pretty cool - but you really should've done Ruth. Check this out: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3873550
FYI - I'm watching the Little League World Series - this is SERIOUS entertainment. My Mexicans (San Antonio) are about to kick your Mexicans (Chula Vista) butt's. Wanna wager? My Annie's Inferno T-Shirt for yours? :-)
Posted by: Jimbo at August 29, 2009 2:53 PM
Actually, blue - after further consideration - if by some stretch of the imagination Chula Vista was able to pull it off against San Antonio (game starts in 40 minutes) - I could never let go of my Annie's T-shirt... Especially since the last person to wear it was C-Bug. It's special...
How about you come to Honolulu (or Austin or Soldotna) I buy you a steak, I go to San Diego you buy me a steak...
Posted by: Jimbo at August 29, 2009 3:25 PM
V, you don't live in Utah?
Posted by: Doug at August 29, 2009 3:33 PM
as we flew past Denali we went up to 11,000 ft and then flew down the Ruth Glacier.........at 100 ft off the ice......the GPS display showed RED on both sides of us..that means the ground be higher than you...the terrain warning bell was going off every 5 secs....then stopped in Talkeetna for lunch....
got some great pics....
I have tentative plans to be in Honolulu in Jan. will you still be there???
by the by --- I tested global warming by peeing in the Arctic Ocean..the ice flow (you know the one ALGORE said is gone) did not melt....
I figure that the increase in the ocean temperature from my pee was greater than the so called increase from global warming

Oh - and one of my pics of Ruth was "Picked for Show" at the 1984 Fur Rendezvous Photo Contest - I figured how could I miss - there's an award winning photo everywhere you look!
(I also took 3rd-place Creative for a shot of a high-bush cranberry with a split-screen filter.)

Speaking of Pigs with Lip stick. Where is the Liberal Hate Monger Wellstone? I would have expected him to be defending the left wing failure called California.

Here with extravagance and great display,
A certain corpse was laid away,
While those who knew him sneered and slanged,
I wept:
For I had hoped to see him hanged.
(Best I can do from memory)

Good quote Jim
The author was Hillaire Belloc
Epitaph on the Politician Himself
Here richly, with ridiculous display,
The Politician's corpse was laid away.
While all of his acquaintance sneered and slanged,
I wept; for I had longed to see him hanged.

I love Belloc! Funniest crumudgeon ever.

Dear Van Helsing:
We don't really mean to make your blog a 'chat room' (see Oioa’s post a couple of threads down that I believe he meant to post here) – but dammit – when you bring like minds together with a great place like Moonbattery – it is BOUND to happen. Like minds like like minds. Yet… I repeat myself.
Maybe, some day, there’l be a Moonbattery reunion. Hell – even Ghost is invited. I promise not to kick his ass. (But I can’t say the same for my dog vs. his dog).
And finally…Posted by: blue at August 29, 2009 3:38 PM… ”have you washed your shirt since CdashBug wore it?”
Whatdayathink……… I’m a dumbass????????

I suggest an evening in the French Quarter. Who wants to go to New Orleans? Say, a weekend in September, 2010? I know a few really awesome places... and the off-season is best, not too hot, not too humid...

In my personal experiences, running around the country to avoid this and that injustice, I have discovered that regardless of whether or not there is a place to run to you really need to stand up and be counted right where you are. Many of the places I have run to in the past are no longer free. Sheeple will follow good influence as well as bad influence. Learn the facts and debate the libs in your own world. Fight the good fight and take the whole country back, not just Texas.

But, Rick, Texas is a good place to start as most of us haven't sold our souls to the devil liberals yet.
Posted by: czekmark at August 30, 2009 2:16 PM
Those considering relocating from CA, or anywhere else for that matter- I strongly advise against Idaho. It's a terrible place where during the summer months, giant grasshoppers have been known to swarm and fly off with small children. Volcanos erupt continuously and lava flows like rivers - very dangerous. Also, there's the terror of the little known sand shark lizard worms, believe me you don't want one of these in your house.
Go to Texas, it's a lot safer.

LOL! Maybe you should move to Detroit and "put up a stand". LOL!
Let me put it this way: "putting up a stand" is illegal in California.
Posted by: Jimbo at August 30, 2009 6:50 PM
And OMB - I couldn't agree more about Idaho. And Texas IS safer. Unless of course... you don't speak the language. Or are afraid of copious species of poisonous critters.
