ObamaCare Would Impose Race Preferences on Medical Schools
Surprise — Democrats' arrogant bid to Stalinize the healthcare system includes race preferences:
Under the Democrats' health care bill, if a medical school wants to increase its chances of receiving many different kinds of grants and contracts from the federal government, it should have a demonstrated record of training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups. This is because the Democrats' health care bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to give preference to the entities that have demonstrated such a record in the awarding of these contracts to medical schools and other institutions.
The bill does not state what would qualify as a "demonstrated record", so we can expect medical schools and the other entities to do whatever they think they can get away with to train as many "individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups" as they think they might need to have a better "demonstrated record" in this regard than other entities competing for the grants and contracts. The Democrats' health care bill creates a very significant financial incentive for medical schools and other entities to lower admission standards for "individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups" if that is what it takes to have the winning "demonstrated record".
If you live long enough to get through to a doctor under ObamaCare, you'd better hope it's a white one; that's the only way you'll know the doctor is actually qualified, and wasn't shoved through the system to meet racial quotas.
Affirmative Action worked so well in selecting our current president, why not apply it to the doctors Big Government will select on your behalf?

What a surprise. The party of identity politics and their Messiah want to enact racial quotas for minorities in medical schools that penalize those that don't comply. The Democraps biggest tactical mistake in their current Cloward Piven playbook was letting anyone read the bill before attempting to ram it through. Now we are actually able to pinpoint the precise raft of socialist and racial preference crap that we would have expected to be in there from this band of thugs. I wouldn't be surprised if someone found another provision that reimburses doctors more $ for giving more and better medical care to "underrepresented minority groups" than white folks.

What would you rather have?...
1) An A student doctor
2) An AA student doctor
3) Legitimately qualified doctor.
(choose that which apply, multiple choice permitted)
Sounds to me as though very very very very few (unless you have an IQ in the single digits) would choose number 2 in ANY circumstance.
I don't want someone hacking away at me when they have no reason to be a doctor, let alone in the office itself.

look forward to community colleges offering Primary Care degrees as 2-yr programs, 3 yrs for neurosurgeons.

And once he gets our Health Care system straightend out, perhaps Obama can look into curing the gross racial imbalance in the NBA!
Posted by: GEJ at July 22, 2009 11:01 AM
There will also be racial quotas in services! Services to one group will get cut if another group thinks they are getting more than their "fair share." Watch for more confusion about equality of outcomes vs. opportunities.
Life expectancy will become a political football and the only thing way to fix will be to shorten people's life expectancy down to the lowest level.
I guarantee that if you are a white man who is not homosexual you can expect restricted access to needed medical care.

there is nothig about accepting unqualified candidates. this is just bizarre ranting. do any of you actually think that doctirs will be replaced with alcoholic/homeless/criminally insane people just because they are black/indian/asian/whatever? all will still have to take the classes. the tests. the residencies. and so forth. come now.
whine whine whine... dont any of you ever get sick of being needlessly afraid of everything you interact with in your lives? it must be exhausting in the extreme... taking umbrage at everything you do not understand is a full time job when you understand very little to begin with!

Excellent idea! Then others might come to understand, in a language they understand, the reality of enforcing 'fairness' standards in a tough and competitive world. Do you want the very best filter through reality or will imposed mediocrity do ?

Anon: so if there were a more qualified white male that doesn't get into med school because of a quota, that's a good thing how?
Posted by: weewilly at July 22, 2009 12:03 PM
this assumes equivalence. there is nothing that says less-qualified candidates will be given special dispensation to practice medicine withut a brain... the closest thing we have to leechcraft these days is the republican docs who dont believe in evolution and thing you can get AIDS from tears. if that chimp Frist gets to be a doctor... what is it that you think can possibly be worse than that? and he's all white and male and religious. so you guys should love him despite his inability to actually practice medicine.
seriously. are you actually worked up about this for a reason? im a reasonably certain that none of you lot are lining up to be doctors...

"all will still have to take the classes. the tests. the residencies. and so forth."
And when the exam results are tossed because the minorities du jour didn't pass at acceptable rates, we'll have Justice Sotolaraza there to uphold the decision.

Exam standards will have to be adjusted in order to achieve Medical Justice.

If they are equally qualified than there would be no need of special quotas. The existence of Affirmative Action in this bill and elsewhere shows that some people will be held to a lower standard based on race. If they could get into Med school on their own, we wouldn't need to constantly lower the bar for them.
Read Steve Sailor sometime for a reality check. Even Watson admitted their are differences in groups of people beyond pigmentation.
We see this dumbing down in the Ivy League already...

Minorities make up much of the dropout flunk out group. I guess if you are not bright enough to get in on your own, you are usually to stupid to graduate. Libs never seem to figure this out.
I don't care what color you are, you should get by on merit not some affirmative action crap.

Just a bunch of idiots. Yea. Any day... And just cause your doctors white does not mean he know's what he's doing. That's just stupid! I hope anybody working on me is "Educated" any race period...

What a surprise, there are reparations in the health care bill. Post racial America my arse, get whitey is more like it.
Why else would you write in all those race based bureaucracies into the bill.
Is health a race issue?
Do you want an affirmative action doctor?
Posted by: bill-tb at July 22, 2009 1:21 PM
Why is it assumed that all white people are rich and living off daddy's money? Probably the same reason some assume all minorities are poor and stupid. Neither even remotely resemble the truth but are alike in that they are symptoms of racism.

So this bill makes med school tougher so that minorities actually learn MORE than the "rich white person"? I assume the tests are equally difficult for either student regardless of wealth/ethnicity/sex so what is the benefit of the dumber "hard worker" getting preferential treatment? I don't get the argument, how does a quota system for doctors help patients?
Posted by: weewilly at July 22, 2009 2:19 PM
A quota system for doctors will have devastating affects on patient care. There should be absolutely no argument on that one.
Weewilly. Equally difficult to either student, regardless of wealth/ethnicity/sex? Yeah, that's what those firefighters thought too. They were all given equal preparatory time yet no blacks and 1 or 2 hispanics passed the promotion test. Regardless, the results were thrown away and NOBODY got the promotion.
To argue that a test is racially or sexually bias is just absolute stupidity and a failure on the individual's part to adequately prepare. Stupid/lazy people should not be rewarded for their stupidity/laziness.
I find it funny that in predominantly black (or white for that matter) school, blacks are MOST OFTEN the reason for the falling of the curve. They're in the same school, in the same environment, in the same city/town, yet white people just DO BETTER. There are no disadvantages in that system besides their inherent ignorance/abandonment of learning and knowledge. They DON'T WANT TO LEARN. Entitlements are their game. This nanny-state garbage sickens me.
Libtards piss me off to no end and I swear my head will explode someday.

I'd rather have someone working extra hard in school trying to make it with not much money for support even if it is a minority
So you would prefer to be a racist and exclude people?
than a rich white person who's school is paid for by daddy
Why yes you would, and look at that your a bigot to.
learns a couple med terms and graduates by cash and not education.
So far based on your utter lack of intelligence and rcacist attitude NO abount of cash could buy you an IQ over .003 so having any leval of eucation is just a fantasy for you!
And just cause your doctors white does not mean he know's what he's doing.
But if the Doctor is a minority it does? That's called a logic trap, so you know how dumb you are.
That's just stupid!
No dear, it's far beyond any ability to reason or comprehend like anyone who has intelligence can do.
Here's your sippy cup!
I hope anybody working on me is "Educated" any race period...
Actually that's a lie, you have already stated ANYONE but "a rich white" and that you prefer "a minority trying to make it" far more than someone skilled, or actually qualified.

What the anonymous troll insists would never happen... has already happened, in the case of Dr. Patrick Chavis, a horrfically incompetent doctor and affirmative action poster child.
Dr. Patrick Chavis was infamous, having been admitted to UC Davis medical school in 1973 under a special program that enrolled five black applicants who had lower scores than Allan Bakke, a white male denied admission.
Bakke challenged the admissions program and the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Bakke's favor; Davis had committed a constitutional no-no. Bakke is now a respected anesthesiologist in Rochester, Minn. Chavis' life was a Shakespearean tragedy because of affirmative action. While Sen. Ted Kennedy, the New York Times, the Nation and all network news programs profiled Dr. Chavis as an example of what affirmative action can do, there are some data discrepancies.
Upon completion of his residency in 1981 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, he was hired there at a low level. He shouted racism and was promoted to associate staff physician. But by 1988, hospital staffers monitored his work after a panel of physicians and administrators reprimanded him for a forceps delivery.
Chavis cried racism again through a discrimination suit. A jury awarded him $1.1 million (later overturned). Chavis then undertook the noble arts of abortions and liposuctions, or "body sculpting," as he called it. He was sued for malpractice 27 times, had medical board complaints filed in seven liposuction cases and was accused of causing the death of one liposuction patient whom he left in his office as her incisions oozed red fluid.
The patient died there of "massive blood loss." A tape made during his liposuction procedures finds "horrific screaming" by his patients as Chavis offers this bedside banter, "Don't talk to the doctor while he is working," and "Liar, liar, pants on fire." A judge suspended his license in 1997, writing in an 11-page opinion that Chavis "demonstrates an inability to perform some of the most basic duties required of a physician."The Medical Board of California revoked his license in 1998 for "gross negligence, incompetence and repeated negligent acts." Dr. Chavis blamed racist "white male" physicians for his problems.
Posted by: V the K at July 22, 2009 4:46 PM
Affirmative Action begets racism. You're lying on a gurney in the emergency room and a doctor walks up to you. You see the doctor is from an under-represented minority. You then fear that the doctor may not be as competent as other doctors, because the standards were lowered for affirmative action. The individual doctor might be the top of the class, but the fear is still there. Q.E.D.

Posted by: blue at July 22, 2009 5:33 PM
I'm sorry to hear about this foolishness, but not surprised!
And I'd like to say I've had 3 "minority" doctors that were VERY good.... and a few who were lousy (along with a few white guys who were lousy).
The lousy minority was an Asian woman I went to see about a bladder problem, who damaged me permanently (but because she wrote wrong reason in my medical records why I came it... I had no recourse to complain). SHE HAD A LANGUAGE problem, didn't speak English well... tho I was seeing her at a very respected health care group.
The best primary care doc I ever had was a black guy thro Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. He was both intelligent, clearly well qualified ... and caring. I'm currently in Virginia and use now as a primary care doc a Filipina woman, who is also very smart & caring, albeit not very experienced (at least willing to listen to me, and is willing to refer out when she hits an area she does not feel she has enough experience in). My dermatologist (I had melanoma, so need to go annually) is also a black guy, I'd call him OK also.
My primary care doc when I first moved here was terrible (an older white guy, I think from the former Soviet Union)... he was arrogant AND just gave out drugs, drugs, drugs (and ignored my fears of adverse effects from drugs... I'd had some bad experience in the past and was VERY leery). I'd gotten 2nd opinions on his "advice" from more than one source, before I switched... and neither of the one's I checked thought his "treatment" of a chronic condition I have was appropriate. More to the point, when I was having dizzy spells (apparently from one of those prescribed drugs) and ended up in ER, I had a cardiologist ask me WHY was I taking that particular thing (since I didn't have congestive heart disease, he'd done an EKG first to check...) that that particular medication was usually prescribed for.
As they say... let the buyer (in this case, of health care) beware. Much as it's difficult to do sometimes, we HAVE to be our own advocate for decent health care .... DO YOUR RESEARCH and ask plenty of questions. Any doc won't answer your questions respectfully and to your needs.... get a 2nd or 3rd opinion and FIRE them if they are lousy!

"if a medical school wants to increase its chances of receiving many different kinds of grants and contracts from the federal government, it should have a demonstrated record of training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups."
The black plastic surgeon who performed three surguries expertly over a period of 5 days on my 80 year old mom's leg last year saved her from infection, needing skin graphs and with only a little scarring after a serious car accident. He came in to the OR from home at 3am to perform the 1st operation because he explained to my sister, a nurse, that it was vital to a patient to operate immediately to prevent infection. He saw my Mom every day she was in the hospital and also had the BEST bedside manner of any surgeon any of us EVER met, the guy should give other Doctors lessons. This being said I do not believe race or gender should be a factor in choosing one candidate over another for medical school as a bad Doctor can kill a patient and I for one do not care whether the Doctor I meet in an ER at 3am is black, white or purple only the best qualified and able. Mandating quotas on Doctors has already been proven dangerous.
Posted by: tired of liberal lies at July 22, 2009 6:22 PM
If the reason for admitting more minorities is the assumption that these minorities will work in underpriviledged areas, then the argument is a specious one. it would be better to offer doctors of any color, relief from student loans, or some other incentive to work in underserved areas. Actually, blacks in urban areas have no problem getting medical care as there are major teaching hospitals. Poor rural areas are in greater need for the services of a good physician. It does no one any good to have quotas. This only raises doubts in patient's minds if the attending physician is a minority.

Here is a psychological translation in parenthesis of Gay! Boy’s rant:
Just a bunch of idiots
(translation - I’m so frazzled and frustrated that I can’t respond to the fact that the racial quota’s in my Messiah’s nationalized healthcare bill has been exposed – please don’t tell the American people about such things or we can’t dupe them).
I'd rather have someone working extra hard in school trying to make it with not much money for support even if it is a minority, than a rich white person who's school is paid for by daddy and learns a couple med terms and graduates by cash and not education.
(translation - I’d rather see my “daddy” federal government confiscate and redistribute wealth, spoils and set quotas and give non-whitey’s handouts to punish whites and assuage my racism and hatred of white people, even if it be my own self-hatred and guilt.)
Yea. Any day...
(translation - I am a racist and I hate whites, it’s reparation time, baby!)
And just cause your doctors white does not mean he know's what he's doing.
(translation – Yea, and here’s my infantile logic -- there a few dumb white honkeys that are doctors out there who are unqualified to practice medicine too, so what if we add a bunch more unqualified minorities as doctors to mushroom that group, at least I’ll feel better about my white guilt)
That's just stupid!
(translation – I’m really, really frustrated that I can’t rationally respond to this, you dumb-dumbs should not be talking about what’s in my Messiah’s health care bill!)
I hope anybody working on me is "Educated" any race period...
(Hope and Change baby – I’ll just keep the blinders on and march on to my communist future … but I sure hope I get no Muzzie docs who are the AA beneficiaries from this plan because if they find out I’m “Gay!” they will honor kill me and mutilate my genitalia!!!!!!)

The only thing to fix this mess is for people to stop scurrying like cockroaches form the light at calls of "RACIST!" If principled politicians just stuck to their guns, even through the ad homenin howls, then we could put all this divisive, race bating behind us and get back to a normal and healthy society.
Different races are different. So what? If you work hard, regardless of background, you will do OK for yourself. Really, it is just failure who need an excuse for their failure who shout "racist" the loudest.
