Nationalized Healthcare Uncovers "Racists"
In case you're not overloaded with reasons to oppose socialized medicine, here's one more: When government controls healthcare, you could be branded as a "racist" for wanting a doctor who speaks the native language. From progressive Sweden:
A woman has reported a hospital in western Sweden to national authorities after discovering she and her husband had been described as racists in their son's medical records. …
Three years ago, when the son was five months old, the woman rushed the boy to the hospital in an ambulance. At the hospital, they encountered a foreign doctor whom the woman was unable to understand. She asked to see a Swedish-speaking doctor, and her request was granted.
When she recently requested her son's medical journal, she read that she and her husband had were described as racists in the notations.
Needless to say, once you've been flagged as a "racist" in the medical database, you aren't going to be first in line for a transplant. After Moonbattery's paid troll Goatse of Wellstoned reports this picture to his masters, I won't even be eligible for aspirin:

On a tip from forest.

The way to solve that "problem" is to deny patients access to their own medical records (or only allow them a redacted version).

Hospital management is also of the opinion that the notation was inappropriate.

Hospital management is also of the opinion that the notation was inappropriate because they got caught.

Right on , forest. Everything is allowed, correct or permissible until one is caught. That is however an exception to our government.

Yeah, ask your liberal f-tards for the truth as to why the cost is outrageous, but don't hold your breath waiting for a straight answer.

Life expectancy/cost per capita (2003)
Japan: 82.07 / $2,249
Australia 80.62 / $2,886
Canada 80.34 / $2,998
Netherlands 79.11 / $2,909
United Kingdom 78.7 / $2,317
United States 78.06 / $5,711

Why is the cost of US health care so outrageous (double the cost) while the result so average? Maybe the insurance industry taking its profit while refusing to actually cover people when they get sick might just have something to do with it.
Better start breathing again, it might be considered a pre-existing condition.

Karin,
"This is an obvious photoshop....the witch doctor's legs are much more muscular than Chairman Zero's toothpicks."
Nah, that's him alright. This is the way he normally dresses around insiders and family. It's only when outsiders are around that he gets into the white man rags. Some of those photos are the ones that are photoshopped.

One reason is our national diet is much poorer than Japan's, as is our general fitness level. I understand that Japanese women living in Japan have one of the lowest rates of breast cancer. However, when they come to this country and start eating our diet, their breast cancer rate starts to look like any other American's. Not to put a too fine point on it, but if National health care is going to force us to eat a healthy diet, I think you'll see a lot of Obama's base rebelling against that proviso.
Then there's also the ambulance chasers driving up costs. Is national health care going to put an end to massive malpractice payouts? If so, why don't they just try that first without the nationalized health care to see what impact it has on health care costs.
And what about the red tape involved with bringing new drugs to market? I understand it takes many millions of dollars to jump through all the governmental hoops, and yet all that red tape doesn't seem to stop dangerous drugs from being released.

And Australia, Canada, Netherlands, United Kingdom?
Having lived in two of those countries I can assure you that you can eat what you choose.
Don't forget France, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Spain etc. The next most expensive health care country is Switzerland at $3,446 and their diet is entirely milk, cheese and chocolate. They also have private health insurance but it is regulated.
High malpractice litigation adds about 9% to the cost of healthcare, it doesn't help but it doesn't explain the 100% markup.

Luna how do you propose the drug companies and healthcare providers make money? A federal bailout?

Lunapipistrellus:"One reason is our national diet is much poorer than Japan's.

I'll argue that the American diet is the primary cause. Don't forget that hand-in-hand with the processed crap that most people eat (which a lot of times is fat- wrapped in sugar, wrapped in salt, covered in fat again, and usually containing soybean oil), that portion sizes are a major culprit as well. We eat more junk, and bigger pieces of it, and we don't get much physical activity on top of that.
I don't know how much, but I'll wager these things are more responsible for health issues in this country than you may think.

Why do moonbats insist on comparing the United States with countries that would essentially amount to an extra state?
When people begin fleeing the U.S. en masse to receive medical care in Switzerland, when students from America leave in droves to study and become doctors in Canada, when Irish drug companies become the industry leaders, maybe then you clowns will have an argument. Until then, you just come across as adolescents angry because you can't get something for nothing.
Grow up, get a job, buy a clue. You have no right to health insurance paid for by others through the threat of force.

"And Australia, Canada, Netherlands, United Kingdom? "
We get a lot more for what we spend than those countries, too. Why do you think we have far more MRIs per capita than the UK or Canada? And in case you think that's no big deal, more equipment translates into shorter waiting times for life saving (or just life enhancing) tests. It's also one of the reasons why the UK and Canada are slouching back toward privatization.
Posted by: Judith M. at July 14, 2009 7:16 AM
Hey, no argument. The American system is much better if you are a drug company, doctor, MRI salesman or insurance company.
If you're happy paying twice the price for very similar outcomes then by all means toss your money to them. They'll go on being happy too.

Ooh, goodie, the healthcare statistics game, I love this one!
Number of illegal immigrants in America: approx. 50 million
Population of Sweden: less than 35 million.
Population of Australia: less than 25 million.
Population of Sweden: less than 10 million.
Number of patients on waiting lists in Canada at any one time: approx. 900,000, close to 1% of the population.
Number of patients on waiting lists in the UK at any one time: approx 1 million, close to 2% of the population.
Number of people who enter hospital each year in industrialized nations: approx. 15% of the population.
Patient load for doctors in the UK and Canada: approx. 50% higher than in the U.S., with corresponding smaller amounts of time and resources available per patient.
Average waiting times for procedures such as orthopedic consultation in Canada: approx. nine times longer than in the US.
Proportion of chronic renal failure patients in Canada and the UK who get dialysis: 1/2 and 1/3 as many as in the US, respectively.
Number of CAT scanners in the UK: approx. 1/2 the number of CAT scanners in the US.
Life expectancy at birth for African American men: 68 years. Life expectancy at birth for Asian American men: 81 years. Under the same health care system.
Number of women diagnosed with breast cancer who die:
U.S.: 1 in 5
France and Germany: 1 in 3
U.K. and New Zealand: 1 in 2
Proportion of total worldwide pharmaceutical spending paid for by Americans, due to subsidized drug sales overseas and the reimport ban: about 50%.
Poportion of worldwide pharmaceutical spending paid for via drug purchases by patients in Germany, the world's third-largest economy: less than 5%.
/But yeah, you're right, it's probably those damn insurance companies that make healthcare in America cost twice as much.
Posted by: mandible claw at July 15, 2009 12:44 AM
The American system is much better if you are a drug company..
Um, dude, without the American system there wouldn't be any drug companies.
Americans subsidize pharmaceutical research and development for the entire rest of the world.
If it's 'fairness' you want, as socialized healthcare advocates invariably claim, why not ask some Swedish or Canadian people to chip in the extra billions of dollars in drug costs that Americans currently pay (and then review how cheap their 'free' healthcare is.)
So, have you got anything better than the 'life expectancy vs per capita cost' canard which has been debunked from here to last Tuesday, or was that about it?
Posted by: mandible claw at July 15, 2009 12:52 AM
Please don't say these things have been "debunked" because I've been following this issue for years and never heard those figures. I notice this forum took many comments that never included such slam-dunk answers either, so I'm not alone.
Get these comments out there for others like myself who haven't heard them...please.
