John Conyers Explains Why Dems Don't Read the Bills They Pass

It seems insane that Congress would pass legislation intended to radically alter our way of life, such as Tax and Charade and the ObamaCare monstrosity, without even bothering to read it. But according to John Conyers, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, it's actually totally sensible:

It took over two centuries to build this country. But roaches like Conyers want to tear it down without expending even two days of effort. Besides, as he admits, he wouldn't understand the bill anyway unless someone explained it to him.

On a tip from Jack Bauer.

Is it just me, or doesn't it seem that's the time to just vote "against" whatever it is?

That guy is an idiot...His wife, Monica, is a loose-cannon on the Detroit City Council. She was recently indicted for bribery. She famously called her Colleague "Shrek" during a city council meeting. She then sat down with some school children and started debating an 8th-grader, who took her to school. Here's the video
and it will crack you up!

KT - thank you. Great video!

My favorite part was when the kid said "But, you're an adult"! Classic

Didn't you know, the constitution is a 'living document' ? it means we have the freedom in America to do whatever the hell we want from men buggering boys to turning a once great and strong nation of men and women into a wimpy mass of socialist losers demanding handouts.

Posted by: Anonymous at July 28, 2009 8:52 PM

They don't read them because they can't.

Posted by: grayjohN at July 28, 2009 9:02 PM

That dip shit needs to be voted out. And, I hope his wife is in prison soon. Both are just nasty POS's.

Posted by: Henry at July 28, 2009 10:27 PM

What a utter BUFFOON!!!! Only in these bizarre and dark days of our country can we find a lawmaker stupid enough to announce that we should just pass laws that he can't even understand or bother to read. I have a whole new level of disrespect and disdain for the cretins who voted to reelect this old douchebag.

Posted by: GhostofJournalism at July 29, 2009 12:30 AM

If it's too difficult to understand just vote no!

It ought to be obvious that only con artists try to offer something too good to be true, want you to sign the contract without reading it, and to hurry up and sign right now without thinking about it or else you'll never get such a great deal ever again. These are con man tricks. Only con artists do these things.

It certainly is apparent to any thinking folks, Kevin. These Democrap hucksters are exactly like the snake oil salesman in that cartoon Van has posted several times in the past. Just sign here to get all the snake oil you want, it will do everything for you, and make it snappy. All of the dimwits are ready to sign their liberties away immediately, until one ordinary person points out just what they are about to give away and get in return. Our ordinary citizenry's attention span and understanding of history is such that we have to re-learn this lesson repeatedly.

And your view, Andy? Kyle?

Posted by: Jim at July 29, 2009 4:36 AM

Liberals like CONyers are so drunk with power the gatekeepers of their minds no longer function and random thoughts come spilling out; even sometimes THE TRUTH. I like to call it "Biden Syndrome" or "BS" for short.

Rob Long had a funny piece in NR just after the porkulus bill passed. It was the bill, but inserted into the murky legalese language was free stuff and perks for himself that the staffer writing it put in on the sly, since nobody was going to read it anyway. Even stuff like girls who'd rejected him in the past have to now go out with him.

I think it would be hilarious if a rogue staffer did that, and Obama signed into law, with a flourish, all kinds of things that would get back at him. No Czars, ever, from here on out. No tax cheats, ever, on the gov't payroll. Presidents in their first term can only make $25,000, with a big raise only after winning a second term. The possibilities are endless.

The radical left are so sure they own this country and nothing can be done about it they don't even pretend to care about this country now.

I say keep going left, they are taking off their sheep's clothing and people (that vote) are watching. ;-)

Posted by: TED at July 29, 2009 5:48 AM

They dont read the bills becuase their too ignorant and illitarate to read DICK & JANE or even a comic book

Posted by: SPURWING PLOVER at July 29, 2009 8:03 AM

TED, it's like the pigs in Animal Farm. By the end of the book they no longer had to pretend that they were the new owners of the farm. The other animals could no longer do anything about it.

But the Democrats aren't as intelligent as the pigs in Animal Farm were. Their lies aren't as good and they're showing their true colors a bit too soon.

Jim's right: The silence from "progressive" trolls is telling.

Posted by: Henry at July 29, 2009 8:09 AM

These rejects are illiterate to the point that they need lawyers to read, interpret and force-feed them the facts of "See Spot Run."

Unfortunately, they still don't understand the words "see," "spot," or "run." Putting them together in a coherent sentence is above their pay-grade and intelligence.

Eric, awesome quote from an awesome movie. My favorite besides all the nekked women was Harry Canyon.

There have actually been a number of occasions where I have seen Conyers say things that were on a stupidity par, with this latest comment.

Each time I have seen it happen, I ask myself: "Can this guy really be THIS dumb"?!! A further question that crosses my mind is: If HE is this dumb, HOW dumb must his constituents be that keep re-electing him? The mind reels, just trying to contemplate it!

Posted by: Jack Bauer at July 29, 2009 11:25 AM

Great video! It's amazing that a 12 year old can recognize poor behaviour in an adult politician in a professional setting and a politician can't.
The arrogance of our representatives is appalling. And we just keep on taking it.

Posted by: JoeShmoe at July 29, 2009 11:52 AM

Most of us know enough not to sign a document the length of War and Peace before reading and understanding it.Why we cannot elect people who show similar common sense is difficult for me to fsthom.

Posted by: James McEnanly at July 29, 2009 4:37 PM

Don't assume that they are just stupid and/or lazy. They know exactly what they are doing. This is the way things are done in communitarian circles. This is the neo-socialist method of "governance". Legislation is conceived and written by the unelected, the "representatives" are expected to simply rubber-stamp it. Reading the bills just impedes the will of the Politburo.

Speaking of the 'drunk with power meme', did anyone else think he didn't sound particularly sober? Or is that his normal speaking style?
