San Francisco Environazis Crack Down on Throwing Out Garbage
Who would have thought that when totalitarianism conquered America, it would be ushered in not by advancing tanks or mushroom clouds, but by do-gooder bureaucratic absurdity like this:
Throwing orange peels, coffee grounds and grease-stained pizza boxes in the trash will be against the law in San Francisco, and could even lead to a fine.
The Board of Supervisors voted 9-2 Tuesday to approve Mayor Gavin Newsom's proposal for the most comprehensive mandatory composting and recycling law in the country. It's an aggressive push to cut greenhouse gas emissions and have the city sending nothing to landfills or incinerators by 2020.
Every authoritarian regime needs a bogus ideology to justify its foot on your face, but does it have to be so insultingly absurd as the global warming hoax? We are going to choke to death on our own garbage so that useless parasites in government offices can claim they're saving polar bears from the utterly harmless gases that would allegedly be generated if they let us throw out the trash.

On a tip from Nathaniel M.

The ordinance calls for garbage collectors to leave tags on containers when they spot incorrectly sorted material

A land-fill isn't composting? I'm confused.

That picture of Gavin Nuisance never... gets... old. Can't believe that shmuck is running for CA govenor. Won't somebody please be a dear & take him and the SF Stupidvisors out to an island and leave them there?
Posted by: Nathaniel M at June 10, 2009 11:22 AM
They're gonna find a LOT of incorrectly assorted material in mine, if they look.
Posted by: Mr Evilwrench at June 10, 2009 11:25 AM
Eric, it most certainly is. It's also supervised by trained environmental engineers who know how to manage these things. I used to be involved in this, tangentially. Now, SF will have thousands of little miniature landfills in backyards, and if you've ever had a neighbor who tried composting and didn't know what they were doing, you can imagine what I mean.
Posted by: Karin at June 10, 2009 11:25 AM
Don't forget to eat lots of corn and then send SF City Hall something they can compost allright folks.

Lord knows San Fran Sicko is chocked full of "greased-stained boxes".
Posted by: We Are So Screwed at June 10, 2009 11:32 AM
People will just toss the banned items from moving cars in the middle of the night onto the sides of roads in the burbs of San Fran Freaks Co.
Posted by: Anonymous at June 10, 2009 11:37 AM
This is the same city of green freaks that banned plastic grocery bags and now its penalising people over compost? LETS JUST TURN THE WHOLE OF SAN FRANFREAKSHOW into a huge compost pile

You've ever been to downtown SF? No need to wish my friend, it's already done.
Posted by: Nathaniel M at June 10, 2009 11:41 AM
Egad.
Move down here to New Orleans where our Garbage Czarina has declared curb-side recycling to be too expensive and not cost-effective. We haven't had recycling since before Katrina. Landfills 'R Us.
Will there be little compost-lets in apartment window boxes?
Will Pelosi refuse to answer questions about her failure to compost? -- "The Mayor told me it didn't REALLY have to be done."

recycling WASTES ENERGY and CREATES MORE POLLUTION you ridiculous, low functioning re-tards.

landfill use is clean and creates usable land.
recycling paper means fewer trees are planted, to use as paper.
manufacturing paper = more trees, hippies.
the inmates have truly taken over the asylum.

I hope he becomes California governor! It will serve as an example for the rest of us what an asshole liberal is really capable of doing!
Sorry for the Californians! A little!

"Recycling WASTES ENERGY and CREATES MORE POLLUTION......."
Unfortunately, in most cases you are correct. The best thing to do is actually burn it(GASP!) as efficiently as possible and RECOVER as much energy as we can from the waste stream, rather than INVEST MORE time, effort and energy in it. A lot of metals and other remaining recyclable material can then be recovered post-combustion.
Of course, we should make an effort to promote conservation and minimize the waste stream, because we are, after all "Conservatives". At the same time, refuse is a part of life - and we need to deal with it realistically.

Orange peels should be kept out of compost piles. they don't break down well at all.
Posted by: forest at June 10, 2009 12:56 PM
The curious part is how leftists and liberals keep thinking that we want to control every aspect of people's lives. I can't figure that. We just want to be left alone, and not "improved" by the state (paceMichelle Obama's speech during the campaign).

Recycling is not the "." of the sentance. Someone has to be willing to purchase the recycled material, or it sits and rots like a pile of .....*ehem* garbage.
Houston has a notoriously ineffecint recylcing program, proped up only from government subsidies. There simply is not the market, currently, to use all that gets recycled.
But that is in itself an explination for its failure, it refuses to recognize the market.
Posted by: Travis at June 10, 2009 1:12 PM
I'm doing my part recycling urine.
Also, I have a green five gallon bucket me and the family take dumps in to save for the compost pile, so that's good.

Travis, that whole supply chain deal is when the libtards stick their fingers in their ears and go "LALALALALALA." New York has been over this time and again, and I was personally at a paper mill dealing with this in NYS.
It's damned hard to find a market for recycled paper, believe it or not, because manufacturers want clean, attractive packaging and media for their stuff. Foods require the most stringent qualifications. All the 10% recycled content you see plastered on things is really such a small amount. Meanwhile there it sits.

The whole damn environazi movement is a complete religion to the left. "Do this or you and your children will burn in eternal.... global warming!" Matter of fact, Zo makes fun of it here.
HAHAHA!

Anyone who buys in to this shit should be defrocked and deported or lobotomized. It's a whole new kind of stupid.
Posted by: grayjohn at June 10, 2009 4:15 PM
Karin, I myself require fresh, clean newspapers, like the New York Times, for example, to house-break puppies, line the birdcage, or wrap fresh fish from the market in.
As for reading, exit signs give me more honest information.
Posted by: We Are So Screwed at June 10, 2009 4:18 PM
So what are they supposed to DO with all that compost? Will the city pick it up and sell it to farms? Will the people be required to use it themselves? If so, use it for WHAT?
Or is it like the moonbatty teachers telling their gradeschool kids to "make a compost pile" in order to "save the Earth"? That is, it just SITS THERE AND STINKS!
Posted by: KHarn at June 10, 2009 4:53 PM
Will they get fined for putting those pesky orange peels down the disposal in the kitchen sink? Or burning those empty pizza boxes in the fireplace or B-B-Q?
Posted by: Jimbo at June 10, 2009 5:04 PM
The problem with these wacko ideas is that they spread from west to east in about five years.
Today, San Francisco. Tomorrow, your locale.
Posted by: Always On Watch at June 10, 2009 5:21 PM
Always on Watch, the people in the middle already know all about this. They're making fun of the coastal elites. We know how to turn pure bullshit into pure gold for the coastal housewives (M or F) who want drop-dead gorgeous gardens and veg's. It doesn't happen by wishing & unicorns. It happens by God and God-given know-how. We've got it.
Oh, and the guns.

I wish Gavin Newsom would somehow wind up in a landfill because I find grease-stained pizza boxes much more valuable...

In Philadelphia they just passed a resolution banning plastic shopping bags in supermarkets. This goes into effect in 2011, so the switch will have sufficient time to be implemented. Instead of plastic, stores will offer "compostable plastic" or paper bags.
Not that trying to clean up Philthydelphia is a bad thing, but does anyone know what the hell "compostable plastic" is?
"Some manufacturers are blending additives to polyethylene to produce “degradable” bags. Unfortunately, this process fragments the bags into pieces of plastic debris that do not meet the ASTM D6400 standard for biodegradable. and compostable plastic. These pieces cause serious harm when mistaken by animals and birds for food…"
"The plastic grocery bag is here to stay. But there is a better alternative to virgin plastics. The new "corn plastic" grocery bags are just as strong as traditional plastic, but once it's thrown away, it will naturally biodegrade. Made from a renewable source, US grown corn, the bioshopper shopping bags are the natural choice over petroleum-based plastic bags."
Fantastic. Another use for corn besides eating it.
