I think I've come up with a compromise solution that will provide health care for those who can not afford it: Since millions of liberals believe that the government should provide that health care, let them pay for it.

I propose a tax that would only be levied on those of you who support socialized medicine. Every year, when you fill out your tax form, you would check yes or no as to whether you want the government to prove this for those millions of uninsured you care so deeply about. If you check "yes," an additional income tax will be levied on you to pay for it... the actual amount will have to be worked out, of course, but shouldn't be more than half your income. In order to keep the program solvent, its costs would have to be covered each year in full without further borrowing.

So what do you think, liberals? Willing to put your money where your mouths are and pay for someone else to have health care before you demand the rest of us do so?

Posted by: Evil Otto at June 17, 2009 9:58 AM

question for Obama: you have indicated that you would tax those with employer subsidized heath plans to pay for your proposed changes to provide health care for all. Has anyone told the combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan that since they have employer subsidized health plans you will be taxing them to pay for health care for illegal aliens????

If you all think the system we have right now is great, you all are all oblivious to the real workings of the capitalized healthcare system we have. I am by no means saying that Obama has the right answer, but it is a step in the right direction as competition between the private healthcare companies will benefit the patients the most.

I use to work for a healthcare insurance company as a "doctor". I would spend my whole day trying to deny patients the drugs and procedures that they desperately need all in hopes of saving the company money. The more money we save, the more raises we get. We as "doctors" also have to reach a quota. I'm glad that I did not see these patients face to face because I would not be able to do my job.

My fellow colleagues in Canada and just about every European nation can actually partake in the duties of a doctor. They can actually say they are following the Hippocratic Oath, while I'm turning a blind side to it. They do not have to worry about the pressures that the doctors here in the United States have to face. Every patient they see, they can treat genuinely.

A missionary from our ward just returned from Canada. He said the people in the town there, when they get sick, head for the border... because they know they will either die or get much worse waiting for care under the Canadian system.

Posted by: V the K at June 17, 2009 11:12 AM

More on the glorious Canadian system anonymous praises from a reader at Teh Resistance Blog.

Whilst training for the annual Manitoba Marathon, my knee was beset by excruciating pain. I went to a sports doc who said I should get an MRI. I waited 4 months to get it done (it’s a rationed service). The results were torn cartilege so I was referred to a surgeon. I had to wait another 4 months to see him. During this time I was in terrible pain and, never mind training for marathons, it was getting hard to get around. The surgeon said that he’d operate on me but, as surgery time is limited, I would be looking at an 8 – 12 month wait. I went home and phoned a clinic in Fargo, North Dakota. 3 days later I went down and had the procedure done.

Posted by: V the K at June 17, 2009 11:22 AM

I call major BULLSHIT to your story, Anonymous drone. If healthcare in Canada and England is SO great, why is our stats better when it comes to finding and treating cancer, renal failure, etc.?
And what do you expect with doctors becoming basically... government employees? It's lower pay and less accountability for them. You say "capitalized healthcare" like a doctor making a small profit is a bad thing.. but profit is what makes our economy and our system work.

To quote Adam Smith: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest."

Those evil profits you libs hate so much has come to fund medical research, which leads to more medicines being produced, and more lives saved and more people treated.

Posted by: Anonymous at June 17, 2009 11:07 AM

Looks like we're going to start getting anonymous antidotal "evidence" from who-knows-who claiming first hand knowledge. Seems like there would be a lot of doctors, thousands of doctors, with the same story. But we get something from "anonymous."

If you are a doctor, Anonymous - why the hell did go to work for an insurance company and take a job whose function is to deny people their benefits? You couldn't practice as a doctor? You must be a shit-bird of a lousy doctor if you took that job over practicing medicine.

I think the evidence clearly shows it is when the government takes over health care that people get denied the treatments they need.

I wonder if that post is from some socialized-medicine political machine that's gearing up.

It looks like Hot Air and Michelle Malkin has been hit. They're both down...

Posted by: Dave M at June 17, 2009 11:33 AM

I inherently distrust any lefty who claims to have a personal story that illustrates a left-wing meme. Doubly so when the lefty posts his story anonymously.

If anon's story were in any way true, he wouldn't be posting it in the comments on a blog, he'd be on the ABCNews White House propaganda broadcast being interviewed by Diane Sawyer... who would certainly love to share his "whistleblowing story."

Posted by: V the K at June 17, 2009 11:37 AM

I will vouch for anonymous's story. It is 100% true. And I say that a world-famous neuro-surgeon. I am also a shuttle pilot, and won four gold medals for Mogul skiing at the Nagano olympics. Also, my wife is a super-model

Posted by: Anonymous at June 17, 2009 11:39 AM

I am by no means saying that Obama has the right answer, but it is a step in the right direction as competition between the private healthcare companies will benefit the patients the most.

Really? You actually think Obama intends to create competition? You use words like "captialized" and "competition," but I don't think you understand their meanings.

I use to work for a healthcare insurance company as a "doctor". I would spend my whole day trying to deny patients the drugs and procedures that they desperately need all in hopes of saving the company money.

Then why didn't you quit?

The more money we save, the more raises we get. We as "doctors" also have to reach a quota. I'm glad that I did not see these patients face to face because I would not be able to do my job.

Yet you did it anyway.

What makes you imagine that a government bureaucrat is going to have any different attitude than your supposed employer?

Government involvement in health care does not magically make it less expensive. Health care, as a resource (not a "right"), is subject to scarcity, just as every other resource is. As any scarce resource, it is subject to rationing. In capitalist systems, that rationing is done by price. In socialist systems, that rationing is done by long wait times, reduced access to doctors, limited equipment, and reduced patient access to drugs and treatments. In other words, the exact same situation you described working for your Darth Vader-like supposed employer.

They do not have to worry about the pressures that the doctors here in the United States have to face. Every patient they see, they can treat genuinely.
Yeah, those nations are paradises on Earth. The doctors in those socialized countries have far less time to see patients, have to deal with far more red tape, have access to less (and poorer quality) equipment. More and more stories are coming out about poor conditions, inadequate care, and refusal of treatment to some elderly patients.

In any event, Obama's plan will BANKRUPT this country. We can't even afford to pay for the bloated monstrosities that are Medicare and Medicaid, and you want the US Government to get its hands on the rest of our health care? ARE YOU INSANE?!?

Posted by: Evil Otto at June 17, 2009 11:45 AM

I will vouch for Anonymous' vouching for Anonymous. I say that as a super-secret-agent/ninja/billionaire/immortal. Who is married to an even hotter supermodel than Anonymous.

He's not any more, Wellstoned. That's the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Ensign resigned his post, and he's no longer in contention for 2012.

Whereas the front-runner for the California Democrat governor's race has gone into rehab for substance abuse and openly committed adultery with the wife of an aide.

The GOP holds its politicians to a somewhat higher standard than the Democrats do. (And Charlie Rangel, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, John Murtha, Tim Geithner, John Conyers, Kevin Johnson, and a whole bunch of other corrupt Democrats like it like that.)

Posted by: V the K at June 17, 2009 2:00 PM

Look, I am not defending anyones actions, my criticisms are from a standpoint that what goes on in someone's bedrooms/or public restrooms is their business, but when you launch attacks on others, I ask, sit down and shutup! Obama's magical garden. Planting to bountiful harvest in just a few short weeks. It's a miracle!

Posted by: V the K at June 17, 2009 4:37 PM

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), added the "Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act,” (which is better known to conservatives as the "Pedophile Protection Act,") to his short-term legislative list Monday, by saying he was "committed" to a Senate vote on hate crimes legislation before the August recess. The pro-homosexual newspaper Washington Blade reported the vote could happen as early as today (Wednesday), but staffers at Senator Kennedy's office denied that claim, giving us a few more days to act.

The pro-homosexual, anti-faith bill, sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and pushed hard by the Obama Administration, was until recently labeled S. 909 "Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act." But it faced such strong resistance by conservatives (including threat of filibuster or faith-protecting amendments by pro-faith Senator Jim DeMint, R-SC), so instead Democrats have announced they will soon hide the bill as an amendment to another "must-move" bill, denying committee hearings, and completely side-stepping the Republicans right to debate and amend.

547 SEXUAL DEVIANCES TO BE PROTECTED BY FEDERAL MARSHALS

The forthcoming "poison pill" amendment will mirror a House bill H.R. 1913, already passed 249-175 along strict party lines, which makes "sexual orientation," "gender," and "gender identity" into federally-protected classes under the law, and codifies federal protection of up to 547 types of sexually deviant behaviors, including:

* Incest – sex with one’s offspring (a crime, of course)
* Necrophilia – sexual relations with a corpse, also a crime
* Pedophilia – sex with an underage child, another crime
* Zoophilia – bestiality, a crime in numerous states
* Voyeurism – a criminal offense in most states
* Fronteurism – a man rubbing against an unknown woman’s buttocks
* Coprophilia – sexual arousal from feces
* Urophilia – sexual arousal from urine

Attempts by House Republicans to add amendments stating "pedophilia is not protected as a sexual orientation" were specifically blocked and defeated by House Democrats. Lesbian Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) expressed opposition to excluding pedophiles from the bill, and Democrats voted with her to strike any child-protection amendment. She claimed that pedophiles would not be defined within “sexual orientation,” but wouldn't put that in writing, and refused to define that phrase "sexual orientation," which according to the American Psychiatric Association includes all 547 sexual deviances listed in their DSM-III manual of clinical psychoses, including pedophilia, so now thanks to most Democrats, child molesters will be protected by federal law.

As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama deliberately and repeatedly LIED to America's 90 million gun owners across the country, when he insisted that he would NOT try to take away anyone's firearms.

Now, Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder is saying that the president will seek to reinstate the ban on semi-automatic firearms -- which means he KNEW he was lying to the nation, because his own website touted his plan to revive the gun ban and make it permanent!

We warned America that Obama's "support" for the Second Amendment was empty rhetoric -- and now Holder's disclosure has confirmed it. Obama was lying, and now gun rights may be dying.

Several times on the campaign trail, Obama told voters, "I'm not going to take your guns away." He said it at rallies in Duryea, Pennsylvania, and in Boise, Idaho. He also told a news conference that "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear... I think people can take me at my word."

One thing is now obvious: We shouldn't take Obama's word, even if he says it rains a lot in Seattle. Apparently, law-abiding gun owners have nothing to fear... UNLESS they own sport-utility rifles, semiautomatic shotguns, handguns and any other firearm that Obama and his anti-gun Attorney General don't like.

Thanks to Eric Holder -- who has been far more honest than his boss about his anti-gun philosophy -- it is now clear that the new president doesn't support the Second Amendment at all. American gun owners should remind Democrats in Congress that the Second Amendment means what it says, especially when the president doesn't.

How about a party filled with people demanding that the rich pay "their fair share" of taxes, a party which is simultaneously so filled with tax cheats that Barack Obama has had difficulty finding someone who didn't have tax problems for his administration. A party who's members tear into corporate executives for flying private jets everywhere, while its leadership flies private jets everywhere. A president who lectures his campaign opponent on deficit spending, and then immediately QUADRUPLES THE DEFICIT.

So where's your feigned outrage at this hypocrisy, Flintstone? You really are smarmy. You'd make a good politician.

Lying Words and Lying Wordmeisters

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me. Some readers may recall that taunt from childhood days, either as the taunted or the tauntee.

While it’s definitely true that sticks and stones can do immeasurable damage to the human frame, it’s not always conversely true that words can never harm us. Words have meaning, words have impact, words can be far more damaging than sticks and stones, depending on the size of those sticks and stones.

The pen is mightier than the sword, an adage coined by Edward Bulwer-Lytton before it became an adage, had confused me as a kid when I figured the only way a pen could be a more effective weapon than a sword would be if you were in close combat and stuck the pen in your adversary’s eyeball.

I was wrong.

Pens seem headed the way of high button shoes and dodo birds anyway but words will always be mightier than mere physical weaponry whether expressed to make a salient point, to drive home an argument, or to conceal an issue and deceive the reader/listener.

The Obama administration and the master wordster himself, President Barack Hussein Obama, are extremely adept at manipulation of the English language to suit their purposes.

Hence we see and hear that the administration’s DOJ supports the Defense of Marriage Act, designed to preserve the one man-one woman institution of marriage on June 12th. That serves to placate “social conservatives” and most normal people. Less than a week later, Obama announced plans to extend health benefits to gay unions, thereby consoling one of Obama’s major constituencies, to a degree since they want much more than that: http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=49670.

However, the Master Deceiver has succeeded in keeping two large blocs relatively content for the moment with a piece of the pie and he knows most voters have this penchant for forgetting. He’s also aware that gays know that his message to them is, “Chill, people! Be patient. You’ll have the whole pie soon enough.”

Likewise, Obama must have satisfied some gun owners with his stated support, albeit less than staunch support, for the constitutional right of Americans to own guns. Yet, gun owners are finding it increasingly difficult to find and buy ammunition for those guns, rendering any weapons dust collecters or, at best, useful as clubs.

CNN attributes the ammo shortage to gun owners stocking up, a reflection of gnawing fears over this administration, substantive fears based on Obama’s history of opposing the D.C. gun-ownership law and voting against the right to keep and bear arms. That stockpiling could be part of the reason for the shortage: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/05/04/ammo.shortage/index.html.

Another reason is more clandestine. Rumors have long been afoot that government agents have been buying up boxcar loads of ammunition in an Obama effort to say one thing, “Sure, you can own guns!” while making citizen-owned weapons as useless as teats on a bull.

As one blogger put it, ”I hate to point out the obvious, but it’s called enforced disarmament. If they can’t take your guns by law, they just take the ammo. At the end of the day it has the same outcome. Martial Law here we come!:” http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread439348/pg1.

Extreme? It sure is but it makes as much sense as believing billions of bullets and shells are being bought up by everyday gun owners. With his stimulus funds overflowing, what better way can gun-phobic Obama disarm Americans than diverting a few billion to buy ammunition?

(Not just incidentally, Boy Scouts and whittlers should be put on notice: Customs agents are now using “convoluted reasoning” to prohibit the importation of pocket knives. Knives like guns kill people too, ya know!: http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=49527)

George H. W. Bush lost the election of 1992 largely because of his foolish “Read my lips” comment on raising taxes. Obama won in 2008 largely because of his promises of change, chief among which changes was reversing the recession and getting Americans back to work.

Now don’t just read his lips but note his empty promises. The country is far worse off in June, 2009 than it was in January when he took office, . . .

The Search for the Holy Grail.

'Free' healthcare that actually works is holy grail, philosopher's stone and a perpetual motion machine rolled into one.

Also, two of the most common canards repeated as 'statistics' are bogus:

Claim that there are 47 uninsured Americans

Claim that half (or more) private bankruptcies due to medical bills

Founder's Quote Daily for today:

"As parents, we can have no joy, knowing that this government is not sufficiently lasting to ensure any thing which we may bequeath to posterity: And by a plain method of argument, as we are running the next generation into debt, we ought to do the work of it, otherwise we use them meanly and pitifully. In order to discover the line of our duty rightly, we should take our children in our hand, and fix our station a few years farther into life; that eminence will present a prospect, which a few present fears and prejudices conceal from our sight."

ABC refuses to air any criticism from opponents during Obamacare Infomercial; even paid avertisements. This is why we need FoxNews and talk radio. Because the legacy media are too one-sided.

V the K: "That's the problem with having a moral code: People who have no morals at all will always attack you when you fall short of it."
Hmmm.
According to Alinsky's Rules For Radicals #4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."
That's why the trolls always choose this route and scream about "hypocrisy". And it is easy to appear not to go against one's own principles when in fact you don't have any. You've hit the nail on the head, V!
Also- isn't it interesting that Lib Trolls use arguing tactics from a book dedicated to Lucifer?
"Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom- Lucifer."
-Saul Alinsky, Rules for Radicals, A Practical Primer for Realistic Radicals

I think if John Ensign seriously and sincerely repents, that makes him a better man then Bill Clinton, who never really repented... and a much, much, much better man than Bill Maher, who revels in being a sleazy, atheist asshole.

Libs do have some ideals, like being nonjudgmental, which they fail to live up to by judging conservatives every chance they get. Then there's that standing up for the weak thing, which they also fail to live up to when they support abortion, ESC, and euthanasia. And that racism and sexism thing, which they also fail to live up to be hating white males. And then there's that love affair with taxes, but not if they have to pay them. And that dedication to homosexuality, unless a person happens to be conservative, in which case they stand in judgment.

Then there's that standing up for the weak thing

And like Obama is failing to do with the people of Iran.

Good point, Gregory!

Jimbo, Yes, I, too have noticed that Ghost's posts (hey, that ryhmes) are profane. I have been a victim as well. I'm working on training myself not to take liberals too seriously. I've realized Libs are a parody of themselves and are their own worst enemy. Perhaps a nice roadtrip on the Kam highway to Haleiwa for lunch at Haleiwa Joe's and a shave ice at Matsumoto's would provide a respite from liberal angst. I wouldn't mind going, but it's a long drive from Colorado! Hang Loose, Jimbo! (Shaka sign)

Yes "road trip" that's the answer.
