I'm not attacking anyone personally, it just gets to me when I see one guy doing this to someone and no one helps.

We definitely aren't civilized when we allow our fellow citizens to be victimized right in front of us.

He has his reasons for being the way he is and I have mine. At some point the endless rationalization has to stop. Choose a side and stand for it. Evolution has a mechanism for dealing with the weak.

The driver of that car had every right to run over him once the aggravated assualt began. It would have been justifiable self defense.

I've been wondering if this shocking video is a setup and a staged event... a sort of social experiment to elicit a response and to generate a commentary. It's just so over the top that it stretches one's ability to accept the events as being real.

If this is what we are dealing with here, then the individual(s) responsible for it have wasted many people's time. This is because the public's response to seeing a recording of an assault like this is highly predictable, including anger, outrage, and condemnation.

And it isn't unexpected for people (including me) to express a desire for the perpetrator to be stopped in his tracks, either from the barrel of a gun or from the various metal and rubber components of nearby automobiles coming into violent and purposeful contact with his well-deserving body.

But if this was a real assault, then I want to find out who this criminal is. I want to know where this happened and how and when the police responded. I want to see him in handcuffs and shackles as they take this menace to society off to jail. I want to hear from the victim(s) in the car and hear their stories.

I want to know what happened to all the people involved after this occurred and what the outcome of all this has been.

But I'm getting a little suspicious about the authenticity of this video. It's so shocking that certainly the other news sites as well as the 24-hour cable news channels would be reporting this story. When I first saw him pick up the pipe and start smashing the car, I was completely "WTF". Surely the news media will pick up this story and report it if it is true.

I think that is the general interpretation, minus a few words that may have been missed, or mistranslated. This guy is an independent businessman, a purveyor of illicit products. I caught enough of it to believe this is a rant about someone trying to move into his territory. To me, this looks like a deliberate demonstration designed to convey the "deranged violent lunatic" message rather than an actual deranged violent lunatic. Actual deranged violent lunatics don't stay in business for ten years: they either scare off the customers or annoy the wrong people and end up dead.

I've been dealing with guys like this for 30 years in my job in corrections. (Yes, that does skew my perceptions a bit.) I think this is a deliberate demonstration for the following reasons. 1) the "deranged violent lunatic" role is a reasonably effective survival skill if you are threatened and have no back-up in a world where reputation can keep you alive. 2) after he broke the windows in the car, he didn't go after the occupants. You wouldn't expect a "deranged violent lunatic" to exercise that much restraint. 3) If he really has been in business on that corner for ten years he would know that even on the off chance that the occupants of the car made a police report, and on the slim chance that the police investigated and the even slimmer chance he was actually arrested he might be charged with attempted murder, but any half-bright, marginally competent public defender could get a plea bargain reducing the charge. Where I live it would be called "Criminal Damage to Property" (court costs, restitution, and probation). A decent attorney would get it down to a misdemeanor.

Pretty good odds and a relatively small price to pay to get the message out to your competition.

I remember seeing it definitely sometime in 2006 on another website (dailyadultjoke.com comes to mind (site now defunct) not that it matters) The reason the person in the car did nothing is because normal (meaning the overwhelming majority in this country regardless of race, creed or color) people typically dont know how to respond to violence like this. Whoever that was didn't think theyd ever have to deal with someone like that. Google the essay on sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs if you want a better idea of what Im talking about. Something tells me this guy will piss off the wrong guy one day, if he hasnt already.

I used to work in corrections and I was always amazed at some of the people (like the guy in the video for example) who aren't physically intimidating but would engage in violence and get what they wanted with it. As you said, most people go through life not expecting someone to do things like run up and punch them and take their money. On the flip side of that, many of these thugs get all screwed up when they run into someone who isn't intimidated. Someone with the most basic of self defense training would have that guy's tire iron out of his hand and be ready to beat him with it very quickly.

My heart is breaking over the way this poor fellow was disadvantaged and shut out of the opportunities afforded in this country.
