White Is the New Green

The other day I made an off-hand joke that next the government would order us all to paint our houses pink on behalf the polar bears. Turns out, I was almost right:

US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.
The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
But he warned there was no silver bullet for tackling climate change, and said a range of measures should be introduced, including painting flat roofs white.
Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.

When the government catches on that the climate has actually been getting cooler, it will then insist that we paint our roofs black. Or maybe we'll have to paint them white in the spring and black in the fall. It looks like Sherwin-Williams has been giving generously to the Democrat Party.

Sherwin-Williams lobbyists are working on legislation to paint the entire planet.

On tips from Franco, Puffdaddy, and mega.

Update:

Just to clarify, the Sherwin-Williams stuff is just for laughs. So far as I know, SWP has nothing to do with the government wanting us to paint our roofs white to save the planet.

This whole suggestion (painting our roofs white) has racial overtones. Where is the NAACP at on this one?

There's your 5 million New Green Jobs, Good Jobs, right there. Probably a lot more than 5 million, actually. House-painting.

Anyone still doubting Obama's tactical brilliance?

As my 16 year old pointed out- Doesn't white reflect the heat back into the atmosphere? Black would absorb it...

Am I barking up the wrong eco-tree here?

anon, you might be right. In which case, we'll have to paint our houses like zebras, to balance the two out. Maybe Obama's new Internet Czar can send us some emails to explain it. I guess now we need a Roofing Czar.

White would be a mistake, except in the warmest locations. Most buildings use far more energy heating than they do cooling. Green would actually be the best color because of the narrow band of thermal energy actually absorbed, reflecting the rest. Funny trees aren't so dumb afterall. The ignorance (aside from the whole thing being a hoax) is in the blind stab in the dark 'assuming' white is best. White reflects sunlight, creating a warmer air pocket, creating atmospheric uplifting. Depending on the location this will either increase, or decrease the relative humidity, changing the weather pattern locally. Most highly reflective regions are very dry (deserts, icecaps). Someone might also like to inform them that giant 'solar array farms' will also effect the climate locally.

What is needed is roofs that change color! Dark in Winter, Light in Summer. Too bad the cost of something like that would be beyond belief. Thats the problem with living in fantasy land.

why can't the roofs be the color of Obama - half white & half black?

Coming soon, the Obama Climate Control Kit:
Tire Guage, check
Paint Brush, check
White Paint, check
Pinwheel, check (wind energy to power flashlight)
Bus pass, check's in the mail (subsidized by Chrysler)

Does Sherwin Williams actually have anything to do with this? My company does a lot of business with SW, and I hate to see their good name tarnished. There's been enough slamming of capitalism from the left.

The graphic ties in nicely, but the caption infers that they are complicit in this madness.

First they'll require everyone to get their painted white. When that's been done and millions upon millions wasted on that the regulators will discover that really the roofs should be a different color. Millions upon millions wasted on that and then low and behold the regulators decide that roofs should be still another color. And it will go on and on.

A government big enough to make you paint your roof a certain color is a government big enough to take your roof away.

Then we can all sit around and sing "Sunshine On My Shoulders" because there'll be now way to block it from coming in your home.

This administration, if it weren't so dangerous, would be good comedic material.

White roofs have an effect on the cooling in a house, not so much so on the fraud of CO2 global warming.

Does anyone know that the circulating ocean currents don't actually work the way we thought for the last 50 years, invalidating all the GCMs out there. Yep, everyone is wrong.

Making roads and roofs a paler colour

Again, a demonstration that the enviro-bat mindset and that a crazy homeless schizophrenic would be basically indistinguishable without context.

Imagine a leftist wearing a newspaper on their head to keep off rain (as Van Helsing posted a while back), painting the road white to try and stop the earth burning up, with a bottle of refreshing recycled urine at the side of their working area for an environmentally friendly electrolyte replacement...

Well Hip, Hip and a great big Hallelujah! Do my lying ears deceive me or is the lunatic left finally coming to the realization that White is Right! Or am I going to be bitch-slapped by the ubiquitous voice of Little Milton informing me to "wake up, fool, you sleep walking and you just had another bad dream!"

Anon, your 16 year old son is correct. Energy not absorbed is reflected back into the atmosphere raising ambient temps locally. If I truly wanted to reflect sunlight, a mirror is the obvious choice, plus dear leader could look at himself as he flies overhead.

Stupid little progressives - solving the whole worlds problems, one stupid little idea at a time.

Are there any grownups left in Washington?
