What is cool about those mugshots to me is that you can tell this is the very first moment in their lives when they discovered that they were completely out of excuses. We have a black President. They're in jail. The finger no longer points at somebody esle.

It saddens me to see these mug shots or hear news like this. The fervor over having elected a man not on the basis of his character nor ability. Some cannot see the error of placing their hopes and aspirations in someone other than God and themselves. Some cannot understand that we do not "overcome" racism with racism, or hate with hate.

My guess is that you are much more likely to die or suffer misfortune from circumstances you can't control like a heart attack or car accident then from some criminal attacking you.

I've been on my own in some sketchy places in the world (like Kashmir in the summer of 2001 when things were nice and friendly there) and I've found that it's more about knowing where the bad alley ways are then having a weapon.

The weapon aspect is not the point, Brandon. The point is what happens when, despite your best efforts, you find yourself in the wrong place. You can't count on knowing where the wrong place will be.

To argue otherwise is silly, rather like saying, "If I'd been JFK, I'd have ducked." Of course you would - had you known. JFK would've ducked too - had he known.

Unfortunately, he didn't.

One further point, re weapons: you're able to get away without one, because others who have are prepared to use them on your behalf. It's the problem of Europe in a nutshell - Europeans expect us to do their dirty work for them, while they stand back and criticize.

Of course, now they've got their wish - an American President who won't flex any muscle even on America's behalf, so you can guess how likely he would do so on Europe's behalf.

Europeans are on their own, but are generally too stupid to realize that. For my part, I can't wait until they call Washington for help and the Messiah offers a strongly worded resolution to the UN. Laugh? You bet!
