Medal of Honor Scrapped for Reminding People of Christianity
Posted by Dave Blount at May 11, 2009 8:09 AM
A medal is a symbol — so nothing could be more symbolic than this:
A medal personally established by the Queen is being withdrawn after it was deemed offensive to Muslims and Hindus.
The honour — known as The Trinity Cross of the Order of Trinity — has been ruled unlawful and too Christian.
It has been awarded to 62 distinguished residents of the former colony of Trinidad and Tobago over more than 40 years, including cricketers Brian Lara and Garfield Sobers, novelist V.S. Naipaul and many diplomats and politicians.
But groups representing the Caribbean islands' Muslim and Hindu communities — which account for around a third of their 1.3 million-strong population — had argued that the words 'Trinity' and 'Cross' were 'overtly Christian'. They also said the use of a cross insignia was offensive.
As usual, the minority that regards any hint of the Christian heritage upon which European civilization was built to be "offensive" dictates to a majority rendered passive by political correctness.
Hugh Peskett, editor-in-chief of Burke's Peerage and Gentry, notes that erasing Christian references destroys centuries of history, and
Part of the significance of an honour is its antiquity.
But honor itself is an alien concept to the ever-offended snivelers who are systematically destroying Western culture.
Next they'll have to change the name of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. They wouldn't want to offend any Muslims by reminding them of the Trinity.
