Indiana Rebels Against the Crown

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels shows some encouraging resistance to the impending "cap and trade" outrage:

This week Congress is set to release the details of the Waxman-Markey American Clean Energy and Security Act, a bill that purports to combat global warming by setting strict limits on carbon emissions. … Quite simply, it looks like imperialism. This bill would impose enormous taxes and restrictions on free commerce by wealthy but faltering powers — California, Massachusetts and New York — seeking to exploit politically weaker colonies in order to prop up their own decaying economies. Because proceeds from their new taxes, levied mostly on us, will be spent on their social programs while negatively impacting our economy, we Hoosiers decline to submit meekly.

Even those gullible enough to believe that manmade global warming is a problem should recognize that cap and trade will do nothing to improve the allegedly problematic climate.

No honest estimate pretends to suggest that a U.S. cap-and-trade regime will move the world's thermometer by so much as a tenth of a degree a half century from now. My fellow citizens are being ordered to accept impoverishment for a policy that won't save a single polar bear.
We are told that although China, India and others show no signs of joining in this dismal process, we will eventually induce their participation by "setting an example." Watching the impending indigence of the Midwest, and the flow of jobs from our shores to theirs, our friends in Asia and the Third World are far more likely to choose any other path but ours.

Daniels concludes:

Our president has commendably committed himself to "government that works." But his imperial climate-change policy is government that cannot work, and we humble colonials out here in the provinces have no choice but to petition for relief from the Crown's impositions.

The kakistocracy in Washington will help itself to as much money and power as we let them take. Kudos to Daniels for not rolling over.

On a tip from Chad and Navek.

Comments

I read the excellent article and the comments that followed it at the WSJ. One moonbat hippie, admitting he's unemployed, derided the governor, and started in on the acid rain hoax. He got smacked down.

Why should the folks in Indiana be paying for the Frisco fags' lattes when they won't allow any drilling off their oh so beautiful coast?
F them!
Why should we be payin for welfare boogers in MA to get free cars? Take the friggin bus! Or move!
Why should I have to pay for some lazy bastard's mortgage and kids when he decided he'd rather do sex and drugs rather than get a HS diploma!
Just don't give the feds the taxes! F them, what will they do? Send in the army? You think any white American will shoot at another white American so Obama's people can get more food stamps?

Can't wait until Obama has to back off this loser too. A policy that guarantees more job losses and return to the 1800's lifestyle. As people come to their senses and regognize the insanity of this money making hoax for Al Gore, this may be more fodder for the tax revolt of 2009.

This 'climate change' thing is getting ridiculous. The Asian Development Bank just tripled its callable capital (to 150 billion dollars). All well and good - except they also decided that 'climate change' is suddenly the 'biggest challenge' their borrowing members face, and are now giving out loans for carbon reduction schemes. Guess third-world infrastructure, malaria, lack of clean water, etc, are less serious problems than a theoretical 10 cm narrower shoreline (or whatever climate change causes now)
