CO, CO2, What's the Difference?

The success of the absurd campaign against CO2 — which the government is on the verge of exploiting to deliberately throw the country into a depression that our Democrat kakistocracy believes will lock it into power à la FDR — may be attributable to a simple flaw in the intellect of idiots. Some people cannot tell the difference between carbon dioxide, an essential component of our atmosphere that plants need to live, and carbon monoxide, which really is bad for you. Via the Telegraph:

David Grant, a car parts worker, drove 200 miles to Dartmoor to kill himself … An inquest heard how Mr Grant also printed off notices against the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning as he gassed himself in his car. …
Members of the public found his fume-filled car and tried to get him out, but he had died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The inquest heard his signs read: "Danger. Do not enter at any cost. CO2 kills." …
Coroner Ian Arrow recorded a suicide verdict and said: "He planned this with great expertise."

Expertise? It seems the dead moron couldn't tell the difference between CO and CO2. Unfortunately, many others aren't any brighter.

On a tip from Viking04.

This certainly distills the difference between liberals and conservatives down to their essense.

"Conservatives say cut state spending, liberals say raise taxes."

I, for one, blame Big Oil. If the car was powered by clean energy source such as a fuel cell or better yet a sail, this tragedy would have been utterly preventable.

Let me be the first to nominate David Grant for a 2009 Darwin award.

This is disturbing - and creepy. I hope this sort of thing doesnt happen often.

"One EOD soldier brought in a robot for repairs with tears in his eyes and asked the repair shop if it could put "Scooby-Doo" back together. Despite being assured that he would get a new robot, the soldier remained inconsolable. He only wanted Scooby-Doo. "

T-800:

First, consider the source. Second, this aspect of the story was punched up for the Terminator eerie factor.

The simple fact is that people are creatures of habit. Pilots like to fly THEIR aircraft. Craftsmen are most comfortable with their own tools. When I was in service, I wanted MY assigned weapon. I also wanted MY assigned track. Over time, one becomes familiar with the eccentricities of a given piece of equipment, be it a sidearm, or a Bradley. An individual, or a crew is also reassured that it has received the proper Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services, because he or they have performed it properly. Talk to a sailor of any time, and see if he or she does not have a degree of affection for his (or her) ship. There is nothing creepy about it, to those who have experience in the field. Even golfers have favorite clubs.

If you want to cut down on co2 emisions in autos, take all the catalytic converters off.

Viking04 has a point about how we all want "our" weapon, "our" vehicle, etc. The PMCS and idiosyncrasies are an important aspect, and you just seem to get a sense of secutity with "your" stuff.

I guess the USMC will now have the Creed of the Robot: "This is My Robot. There Are Many Like It, But This One is Mine" (Sorry, Oiao, couldn't resist).

Also, from the article cited by T-800

"....And several teams have given their robots promotions, Purple Heart awards for being wounded in combat, and even a military funeral."

Grunt humor will never go out of fashion.....even in the "Robot Age".

TonyD95B:

Your mention of 'Grunt humor' just made me remember something and grin. Thanks much.
