"Damned nigga, that's some serious dandruff!"
"Some people say "Pull my finger" but I say "Pull my nappy fro!"
"Dat ain't nappy! You wanna see nappy, you see my momma!

Yeah, those are good clean fun right? Maybe in 1950!GrayJohn, maybe AG Holder was correct when he called people "cowards" in regards to discussing race. Apparently when we have people like yourself who find comments like these acceptable. You would rather live in a time when this was common instead of recognizing it is 2009, and many in our communities find it offensive. You are a coward!

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at May 20, 2009 6:29 PM

So ghost are we all equal or are some a little more equal than others ? Would you have a problem with Chris Rock saying those same things ? Isn't a movie called 'White Men Can't Jump' racist ? Or is it not racist because it is talking about typical white people like Obama's grandmother whose greed runs a world in need ?

Posted by: IOpian at May 20, 2009 7:01 PM

Ghost of Gallstone, I was sure Anonymous must be you!

I don't think you know what racism is, Ghost of Gallstone. Again, as the last time I corrected your illiteracy - apparently you don't own a dictionary. The Oxford English Dictionary:

racism |ˈrāˌsizəm|
noun
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Ghost of Gallstone, racism is the belief that the fundamentals of a person's character and abilities are determined by their race. Not a single comment made above propounds this belief. Nor do any comments propound the idea that any race is inferior or superior to any other. You though on the other hand are using all the nasty ugly vile tactics of a race-baiter.

Last time I corrected you, you ignorant race-baiter, you didn't have enough sense to look up two words in a dictionary so as not to make yourself look as stupid as you are nor did you even remember recent history enough to remember Pearl Harbor and in that very brief exchange you proved yourself to be nothing but a partisan political hack. You are a very stupid, ignorant troll.

Posted by: Kevin R at May 20, 2009 7:08 PM

Umm, most white men can't jump. Anyway, when were those were words ever used to be hurtful in a white persons history? And don't throw that nonsense of "well they say it", because it's bullshit! Race is still an issue our country, and to pretend it isn't is cowardly. At what point in history was the "N" word used to slur a white person?

The Chris Rock thing is an excellent point. Similarly, 'Chappelle's Show,' when it was on, had many sketches which were genuinely racist towards white people. White women were portrayed as brainless sluts whose only goal in life was to have sex with a black man, and white men (Often played in sketches by Chappelle himself wearing whiteface and a blonde wig and speaking in a stereotypical "White dude" voice) were portrayed as dorky, pathetic losers to laugh at, mistreat, and/ or beat up, while all black men were portrayed as tough, cool players. In spite of these genuinely bigoted portrayals, few if any raised objections to the show (When I tried doing so, people actually accused ME of racism!), and people instead viewed the show as "Brilliant," "insightful," "hard- hitting," and other butt- kissing terms.

DON'T Beg (for ACORN funds, Cap & Trade, Closing Gitmo)

DON'T Shake Paws (with Chavez etc)

DON'T Bow (to any Kings)

DON'T Dance in Circles (around false transparency issues.)

Posted by: Heather M at May 21, 2009 9:49 AM

LMAO! So, you guys wish to use movies and entertainers as validation for your racism. Here's an idea, try reality. Using language that denigrates a race is racist, using a phrase from movie in which the characters laughed about an athletic ability is only a movie. Playing a black and blind KKK member was skit. Get over it, and recognize you have some issues Jay. And if you are waiting for an apology, you are going to wait a very long time. I am not sure who tried to bring up Robert Byrd in all of this, but it is laughable. If you do the history on the parties you will see the shift in ideologies happened along with the Civil Rights Movement. You guys, for the most part took the Dixie Crats, and we became the more tolerant party. By the way, who is your Jewish Senator now, or the African-American one?

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at May 21, 2009 10:10 AM

Ghost of a Liar:

The movies and entertainers show that there is a racist thread throughout liberal culture. Of course, you will simply deny this, as is typical of useful fools such as yourself.

As an aside, the liar from whom you took your name defeated a Jew. Further, when a black person does run as a Conservative, that person's most rabid attacks come from your side. Your pink-tinted racism, as well as your hate-soaked essence have run their course here.

Posted by: Viking04 at May 21, 2009 10:21 AM

I see a sourpuss leftist found it necessary to both hijack a thread and confirm the stereotype of leftists as the fun-killing Puritans of the Modern Era. Well done.

Jumping on Viking04's point, isn't it interesting that left-wing entertainers have carte blanche to exploit stereotypes of minorities for comic effect without any sort of blowback?

Posted by: Gregory of Yardale at May 21, 2009 10:24 AM

you don't even see how ignorant you just sounded...you don't even see what is wrong with what you said do you?
i know many people have suggested that you actually read the definition of 'racism'...may i suggest it again?
what you said was the very definition of racism.
normal, decent people DO NOT pick people for [or not] jobs, or anything else for that matter, based on race, gender, or religion. you just suggested that we should.
now, that's really pathetic.......
you moonbats really are creepy. i guess that's why your party was the one that loved slavery and fought tooth and nail against the civil rights movement.you seem to "collect" people as if they were trophies.

I'll have to agree with Joe too on the cultural/political picture he paints. I see the same thing where I am. High standard of living, education, tolerance and overall happiness in my liberal city, contrasted with seriously unhappy, uneducated, bigoted folks in the less-populated, conservative areas.

That's right Casper I'm a JEW! Imagine being in high school where you are one of 75 white people out of 800 and on top of that being the only JEW. Some of the bullshit that blacks where doing and saying to me. Even white folks would say racist bullshit to me. You ever been there Lil' Casper Wellstoned? Do you even know WTF you talking about? I think not!

Posted by: Watching at May 21, 2009 12:26 PM

Watching, I was raised in a majority black suburb until the age of 15 (I'm white). I experienced a lot of reverse racism and hatred, but it made me stronger, and I was able to raise above it. On the other hand, I have cousins that were raised in the same environment but are incredibly racist because of that same upbringing. Funny how similar experiences in life can shape people in different ways...

Posted by: Joe the Plumber at May 21, 2009 12:36 PM

I don't think Ghost has claimed to have any answers so far here, but just says he recognizes race fueled hatred when he sees it...

And he sees it every time he looks in the mirror. He’s the most racist bastard I’ve ever encountered. He’d have to lighten up to join the KKK.

High standard of living, education, tolerance and overall happiness in my liberal city, contrasted with seriously unhappy, uneducated, bigoted folks in the less-populated, conservative areas.

You live the high life because you exploit the poor. Make no mistake about this. Leave your gated community, or ask your doorman where the minorities live (since you obviously don’t know), visit there, and tell us about the high standard of living, education, tolerance and overall happiness of your liberal city. Tell us about the high standard of living, education, tolerance and overall happiness of Harlem, of South Central LA, of the South Side of Chicago, of the Hunter’s Point/Bayview district of SF, of Liberty City in Miami, of practically anywhere in Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, East St. Louis, Gary, or DC. You live well because you exploit minority labor, and send the minorities back to the ghetto when they finish doing your scut work for you. They actually work for a living, as do people in more rural areas. They don’t shuffle paper and exploit others.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at May 21, 2009 12:54 PM

Look, I am not doubting that many, if not most of us have some sort of experience in racist situations and neighborhoods. That said, when you behave in manner that says what was funny in 1956 vs 2009, you obviously lack the sense of history that America has it's flaws when it comes to minorities. If you wish to discredit me, that's fine, but I suggest you do a little history on Detroit at Meyers and Grand River, and then tell me I don't know what I am talking about. I lived there from the ages 7 to 16. Also, I do find it ironic that I have now been called "sexist" for pointing out your shortcomings. We have not addressed gender in this thread, and to say that shows you got nuthin! Much like using comedians and movies to prove a worthless point. And again Jay, if you want me to apologize you are going to be waiting a very long time.

Furthermore, I don't pretend to have all the answers, hence why I visit this site. Not with the illusion I may find a solution, but to exchange thoughts, as some of show glimpses of intellect.

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at May 21, 2009 1:00 PM

America has it's flaws when it comes to minorities.

Thanks to people like you.

I lived there from the ages 7 to 16

But moved away as quickly as possible, right? Didn’t want to live among “those people,” right? Racist.

We have not addressed gender in this thread

Go ahead and try to weasel off the hook after blowing your dog whistle. We can read between the lines, and we all know what you believe. That’s clear.

"You live the high life because you exploit the poor. Make no mistake about this." How could you know a thing about me? You always need to make it personal lately.

Yes, my "doorman" and my "gated community" ... laughable. Please. I didn't say I'm living the high life. But fine, let's make it all personal. You must be doing pretty well, being able to sit and type at a keyboard all day long. You want to tell me about all the "real work" you're doing as you type?

Posted by: Anonymous at May 21, 2009 1:24 PM

You talked about "high standard of living;" how is that to be interpreted?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at May 21, 2009 1:27 PM

Nice try guys! I still happen to live in Detroit and happen to love it. I moved out that intersection, which I never had a problem in, but found a better house. And, Oh, you can read between the lines Jay? Ok.

And Jay, "People Like" Me? Explain?

"Wellstoned you lived in Detroit on purpose?! That explains alot. :0)"
That's a clever one Ted.

Somehow your question sounds patronizing, but I'll bite. I'm pretty certain you know that I was not speaking of my individual life, but a generalization of my personal experience in my little geographical area, nothing more.

So in this case, it is simply meant to contrast the overall quality of life I've observed living here in this blue-vote city for 40 years with the other areas in my state, which are less populated and show up on a political map as red.

PS - you tried to put on a Joe the plumber hat a second ago. Care to clear that one up, Mr hard work?

Posted by: Anonymous at May 21, 2009 1:36 PM

How's that standard of living in Harlem? In Compton? On the South Side? Education levels nice and high? Tolerance? Happiness abounds? Or do you stay out of those areas?

Posted by: Jay Guevara at May 21, 2009 1:45 PM

I'm not big on travel. I like to camp and hike and we have lots of that here.

Clearly you have a point to make about these areas ... get to it, Mr-works-with-his-hands.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 21, 2009 1:59 PM

Right Anonymous, I also loved the "gated community" reference. That was brilliant. What a skewed perspective they have.

My guess is that if any of you guys saw my neighborhood, you'd probably like it... a lot. Nice little houses for middle class families, lots of shops that you can walk to, lots of families, many with kids, soccer and baseball fields, lots of parks. Plenty of movie theaters. Me thinks that when you guys think of liberals, your thoughts immediately go to some big hedonistic gay pride rally...

Posted by: Joe the Plumber at May 21, 2009 2:19 PM

Anon don't feel bad for me because my experience has made me very strong. I don't like it when the left throws race and gender out on the table to be played.

I live in a city that is 70% black and my neighborhood is 60%-70% black. Does it bother me? Nope...I chose to live here. As a matter of fact we make fun of lefties like you guys in my neighborhood because you are the ones that preach love and tolerance all the way to your private gated community that has private security. I'll bet you guys would be scared to death to walk around the block at night where I live. I just love how the left is so quick to point out racism when its them fanning the flames of it. If you guys think I'm angry your wrong. I have learn to deal with these things in more constructive ways rather than point a finger at someone or take a swing.

I have lived in my town, Memphis Tennessee, for 44 years. I will not move because this is where I was born and most of my family is. I you guys want race experience come to the deep south and live. It's a lot more different than what you guys see on the T.V.

Posted by: Joe the Plumber at May 21, 2009 9:13 PM

Again, just so you trolls with limited memories can refer to it again, the definition of racism. The Oxford English dictionary:

racism |ˈrāˌsizəm|
noun
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Racism is the belief that the fundamentals of a person's character and abilities are determined by their race. Not a single comment made above propounds this belief. Nor do any comments propound the idea that any race is inferior or superior to any other.

Don't even asswipe.
Posted by: Joe the Plumber at May 21, 2009 9:13 PM

What you wanted to do is use a comma. Like this: Don't even, asswipe. See, now doesn't that make more sense than ordering me not to asswipe? If you're going to write, write to make sense, Joe.

Wow! You guys really know how to keep a debate going. May I chime in? I live in a small southern community which is 57% black (I am white). I atteneded public schools growing up and lived half a block from a project tenement that my great grandparents lived in. And both of my parents were already divorced parents when they met.....in 1958!!!! Dad was a soldier and mom was working two jobs and going to vocational school. After marriage they had two more kids. Eighteen years later, I became the first family member to attend college. It took a partial scholarship, Pell Grant, money from family and working part time while living at home, but I went. And I graduated. Now, since I'm 41 years old, you probably don't want to hear the rest of my life story. So I'll just say that, through the wonders of capitalism, in the last twenty years the business I started and the real estate investments I've made will allow me to live comfortably in retirement one day. My father, however, worked as a security guard until age 79. Mom is now 75 and was forced to retire because of her health. Her job? She owned her own business; a beauty salon. The same one she started in 1960! You know, the degree she got while working two jobs and raising two little boys on her own in the 1950's when no one pitied a woman in her position. So I guess what I'm getting at is this: Is it really likely that I'm where I am simply because I'm white? Or is it beacuase of (1) My parents and(2)my hard work and goal oriented mindset? Looking back at my college years and all the pig sh** I shoveled on Mr. Mays hog farm and all the golf bags that I carried around the Americus Country Club's 36 holes, answers that. There was a time, once, when institutional racism existed. But not anymore. As for changing the hearts and minds of individuals as some in the chat seem to think is a worthy effort: Can't be done. And shouldn't be. I don't like racists, but they have first amendment rights as we all do. And who really wants thought police telling us what emotions we can feel? But, that's just my opinion.

Posted by: Ghost of Wellstone at May 22, 2009 9:44 AM

George, well put. That said, you are not that much older than me, and it appears the areas we grew up in are not the different either. However, following the Civil Rights movement there was still alot of harsh feelings among the workplace when it came to minorities. It is why we have affirmative action. In addition, I know stories of African-Americans who are now criticized for settling on a lousy job/career because they were disgruntled after being more than qualified but did not get one based on the color of their skin in 70's and 80's. This thread, I am sure Van Helsing intended some humor, but some of it was offensive. People need to recognize the insensitivity of some of their language, and what it means historically in America.

Regarding the comment about Ghost, Anon and myself (Joe) all being the same person (you forgot Dino, people have accused me of being him as well), don't kid yourselves. There's more than one individual posting on this site that thinks you are all a laughable bunch. Been a while but I'm back. Ghost - I appreciate your candor. While some of my fellow conservative minded friends in this chat have not been so respectful of your right to express your opinions, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to debate and not "Garofalo" your way through here. However, I think you misunderstood the essence of my question when I asked...

"Is it really likely that I'm where I am simply because I'm white?"

I suppose I should have asked ..."Is it really likely that all the black children who lived a half a block from me, who attended the same school and classes as me, and worked at the same crappy jobs as me, didn't acquire the same success as me, simply because they were black?!"

Obviously I don't believe so, but I think that you do. You assess our generations to be the same. Yet you speak of the "black experience", as you know it, as if its somewhere between 'Jim Crowe' and 'Brown vs. Board'. As I said before...

"There was a time, once, when institutional racism existed...But not anymore. As for changing the hearts and minds of individuals...Can't be done."

You see, I do not live in the world where a black man can not attain all that I have attained simply because he is black. I have seen it. It is a reality, and it doesn't take more "affirmative action/descrimination" to achieve it, just the same hard work and determination. But you, with all due respect, Ghost, cannot see that. Because you don't understand the American principle: What is just, is not always fair! Justice and fairness are not the same. Two twin brothers playing little league baseball; one is a great athelete, the other terrible. The "fair" thing would be to lower the bar for the lesser player. The just thing would be to let them achieve their own rewards or failures. That way, even the lesser player learns to overcome and adapt. He may never get a little league trophy, but he just might become president of the debate team because of his determination and courage in the face of adversity. But that's just my opinion.

Posted by: george f at May 23, 2009 7:58 AM

The fair thing is to change your stilted example a little.

Two twin brothers, one is black, one is white, and they both graduated cum laude with accounting degrees. From there on out, would you call it "fair" or only "just" that the white twin gets twice as many interviews and many job offers, and that those job offers come with a 20% higher salary attached than his black brother?

Also, I can't help but feel that in your example you have definitely already cast your roles for who is playing the great athlete and who is playing the terrible athlete.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 9:12 AM

As to your previous accusation of "trolling" I'm not here to antagonize, I'm here to engage.

But if you come out with the sarcasm, it definitely cuts both ways.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 9:18 AM

I agree that it IS possible for a black man to attain everything that you and I have. I have seen it also. I just think its A LOT more difficult. And not because our black brothers are "terrible athletes" or terrible accountants, but because we hold them back.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 9:42 AM

If you think that the changing of hearts and minds can't be done, its because you yourself are inflexible, and so assume everyone else to be like you.

And if so, why bother posting anything?

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 10:05 AM

Well, "Anonymous", actually I wasn't talking to you. I was responding to a thoughtful comment that Ghost had made. But far be it from me to try and ignore the fart in the room! So, here goes!

First of all you start by telling me about "the fair thing". If you had understood what I was trying to say, you would know that I don't care as much about "fairness" as much as "justice". In a perfect world, everything would be fair. But that's the socialist's sales pitch, and socialism doesn't work. The best that a reasonable human being can hope for, in any society, is a just existance. Everthing else is gravy: Nice if you can get it, but don't expect it! As usual, after a fart comes the turd:

"Two twin brothers, one is black, one is white, and they both graduated cum laude with accounting degrees."

While I'm sure that many a black man has graduated "Cum Laude", my metaphorical analogy of twin brother refers to the fact that white and black children are born equal, however, for whatever reasons previous, one may have a much more difficult struggle than the other. This does not preclude either from succeeding in life unless the "bleeding heart white liberals" convince the black man that he needs special treatment to overcome the downtroddin life he has lived. From there his victim status begins. And, sometimes, it last for generations. But, hey, your heart is in the right place... right?!

As for your statement about the "white twin" getting more job interveiws and a higher salary than the "black twin"; Sources please! And I don't mean sources from some NAACP study from 1980. Let me save you the time. You won't find what you're looking for.

Then you make this statement:

"Also, I can't help but feel that in your example you have definitely already cast your roles for who is playing the great athlete and who is playing the terrible athlete."

"Anonymous", dear... it was an analogy. I was responsding to Ghost's remark about affirmative action. I was saying that, if one person is better qualified than another...it's okay! It's not racism. It's life! And it is unfair to give one person a handicap bonus just because their great, great, great, great grandfather was a slave to someone totally unrelated to the other (white) job applicant! But, you're still not getting it, are you?!

And your next two posts? Seriously? Were you still talking to me, or to ghost of George Wallace? I never accused you of "trolling" and I don't believe I was sarcastic.

And finally, "Anonymous", I never said....

"...our black brothers are "terrible athletes" or terrible accountants..."

You did that!!! And as far as this...

"...but because we hold them back.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 9:42 AM

Jees "Anonymous", you criticize me and then admit to holding the black man back?!!! Hey, I would appreciate it you'd drop the "WE" sh**. I never held anyone back. But, I understand your white guilt. I suppose you have looked up your family tree and found a whole mess of slave owners. Right?!

Posted by: george f at May 23, 2009 11:32 AM

You're right that I confused you and Kevin on the trolling remark. Apologies.

But I'm afraid that on this you're the one not getting it. Its hilarious that your twins example that's meant to clear up a debate on race has a missing component ... race!

You didn't say they were terrible athletes in your post, but it was the intended remark. That blacks don't do as well, because you think they're not as good at the job, whatever that might be. You simply avoid your racism by setting up your example as twins. Hilarious.

I am setting it up as equally qualified twins. Which, if we're all born equal in the country, and everything is just, and the black fellow gets as good a crack at it as anyone else based on his merits ... well then your example is worthless, because you're beginning with two unequal people. AND because you're clearly casting black folks in the role of the not as good athlete.

If you can't own up to that, then you're blind.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 11:58 AM

I am not really a proponent of affirmative action, and I do believe we have come a long long way. But reading this morning about segregated proms in Georgia ... yes, a white prom and a black prom held on separate days ... and I believe we're not finished with the struggle.

Posted by: Anonymous at May 23, 2009 12:05 PM

"Anonymous" ~ Quite frankly I don't know why you don't take two seconds to type a pseudonym, but to each his own. The fact that you continually misinterpret what I'm saying confuses me. I'm not sure if you're a beguiling minx or simply an idiot savant! What I do know is that you really, and I mean REALLY, don't understand me. You said...

"You didn't say they [blacks] were terrible athletes in your post, but it was the intended remark. That blacks don't do as well, because you think they're not as good at the job, whatever that might be."

'Anonymous'... If I didn't say "it", then how can you, honestly, accuse me of bigotry? Do you realize what a harsh accusation that is?! I never,....AND IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND...SCROLL UP AND REREAD WHAT I SAID...I never made any comments about racial superiority! I said...

"... one may have a much more difficult struggle than the other. This does not preclude either from succeeding in life unless the "bleeding heart white liberals" convince the black man that he needs special treatment to overcome the downtroddin life he has lived..."

And to be honest, I think that the well meaning white liberals have done more harm to the black man than any overt racist could ever do!

But, that's just my opinion.
