Welcome to Gilligan's Island

A little sample of what liberals have in store for us:

earth-day-moonbats-on-wheels.jpg

Original caption:

Conor Gentes, left, who works in marketing for the Jones Soda Co., rides bicycles with other Jones employees to power computers and other office equipment, Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the company's headquarters in Seattle. To mark Earth Day, the company reduced its electrical needs for the day so that about 10 riders on bikes attached to generators can provide power all day for the beverage-maker's operations.

Soon every day will be Earth Day. It won't really have any effect on polar bears or the weather, but at least moonbats won't have to feel guilty anymore.

Intelligent! Insightful!

How many months of pedaling would it take to offset the energy used to make these bikes and generators?

Posted by: AC at April 23, 2009 8:25 PM

On our present course, 100 years from, the only thing missing from the picture would be the Chinese soldier with an AK-47 telling them to pedal faster!

These libtards need to start figuring out a way the can pedal-power Chairman Zero's 747...oh wait 2 747's (they always send up a decoy), Marine 1, the C-130's that transport his armor-plated Escalades etc, etc....

What a bunch of idiotic morons.

Posted by: R985wasp at April 23, 2009 9:18 PM

is that a fan in the the background?
they must be energy-piggies to use a fan!!!

Posted by: blue at April 23, 2009 9:20 PM

blue,
Agree, the gratuitous use of the fan demonstrates an eco-selfishness on par with driving an SUV! However, it might be flatulence powered.

I suspect this is intended to get white folks to experience what life was like in the galley of the slave ships as blacks rowed to America.

Praying for the asteroid.

Posted by: Sylvia at April 23, 2009 9:42 PM

Ya know, having a generator hooked up to a bicycle ain't entirely a bad thing.

I would love to be able to tell my teenaged son - "If you want to watch TV, ya got to pedal."

Posted by: on-the-rocks at April 23, 2009 10:02 PM

How much pedaling do you have to do to make up for the excess carbon dioxide you exhale due to pedaling ?

Posted by: Jeff Stone at April 23, 2009 10:22 PM

Good, good! Keep going! This is such great stuff!

Posted by: Anonymous at April 23, 2009 11:00 PM

What do you expect from the company who honors the opening of the Seahawk season by offering flavors such as "Sports Creme", "Dirt", "Natural Field Turf" AND (now we know where they get at least one ingredient) "Perspiration"!

Posted by: Kathleen at April 24, 2009 12:06 AM

Well...They do make great sodee pop! They can cycle to their hearts' content, just keep makin' that cream soda and nobody gets hurt.

Posted by: Nathaniel M at April 24, 2009 12:40 AM

The moonbats will feel guilty, because not all of us will go on celebrating Earth day by relying on bicycle power for our machinery.

Technology exists to make things easier for man so that we can focus on improving life further.

I like what "on-the-rocks" said....that's not a bad idea at all! If teens want their TV, games, music, etc, they'd have to work for it. It would help them stay in shape and gets lots of exercise.

(and, since overweight people contribute to global warming anyway, this would greatly reduce the numbers of overweight people out there!)

Comprehensive list of Earth Day 1970 predictions! Hilarious.

http://www.ihatethemedia.com/earth-day-predictions-of-1970-the-reason-you-should-not-believe-earth-day-predictions-of-2009

“Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….”
• Life Magazine, January 1970

Darn, where did I put that gask mask???

Good news and bad news.
The manufacturing of 'soda' involves a process of injecting CO2 into the liquid in the container (it's what gives it fizz). So in the manufacturing of 'soda' Jones soda co. is doing the earth a great service and sequestering CO2, one can at a time.
The bad news is they are greedy capitolists pigs who will stop at nothing to destroy everything good, beautiful, and kitteny about the earth we live in by selling this sequestered pollutant to the fat, stupid, uncaring masses for money! The greedy bastards.

Lets have a real accounting here as to what is going on, and whether they actually save energy this way.

the power generators they use are not as efficient as high power ones, even including line loss, etc.

but, behind all their work is something else. Calorie load. lets return to those yesterdays when basic physics was more well known and the cnoservation of energy laws were made.

at its base, whatever energy they need to do the job will not change. what wwill change is the efficiencies aroudn that base.

however, what is the cost of energy to create, and deliver it.

people tend not to account for their labor time, and they tend not to account for the food they ate, and they tend not to account for medical and other such things. And by so doing they will OFTEN choose a less efficient way of doing things over a more efficient one because these costs have fallen off the accounting tables.

on the OTHER end, is how efficiently the energy was used to produce something.

say with an outlet the person can type out a report in an hour. but say they use this method. they charge up the batteries cycling for two hours, then they write their report. ergo it takes three hours to accomplish the same amount of work. (these are not real numbers)

it is incredibly difficult to do this accounting correctly, and the socialists know that they can succeed with incompetence against competence as long as the public cant discern and go by feel (then even bad arguments sound good).

so if you want to compare, you would have to account for the source costs, then the transmission costs, and the time base costs.

obviously this isnt being done. the person will expend an extra 1000-2000 calories doing this. they will get half the work they did before (so their competitors will wipe the floor with them since their firm can only produce less than the other can per unit time).

but how does he get those calories? he is not a video game person who gets to go trhough life wihout ever worrying about eating or crapping while playing in a dungeon. he/she is a real person, with real needs, and they have to be fulfilled.

so his steak comes from the midewest, the potatoes too. maybe they have a salad. and some fruit for dessert and to celebrate a bit of hard work wash it down with a wine or a beer.

how much did it cost to raise teh cow, send it to an abitoir, put it in a truck, get it ito the market and sliced up, and then put in plastic?

and if everyhone did this, how many more cows would we need to feed and transport to meet the calories load?

if they are vegan, well thats a big problem. despite the history channel lying as to gladiator eating methods (they claimed they were vegetarian, which is not possible. you cant get the calories and protein enough to be a guy my size and fight every day and train. PERIOD. body builders and even farmers have calorie loads of up to 6000 calories a day and more. alexiev had more than a dozen eggs and several loafs of bread for breakfast).

so if they are a vegan they will ahve to spend most of the time off the bike eating to get the calories to be on the bike so that they can remain somewaht healthy.

how about the costs of flying in the strawberries on the desert from costa rica? or the beer from canada, holland, or germany... even if local bud, it still had to be transported.

a horse working a generator would be more effeicient than he, cause a horse you can feed with hay that is a function of the size of your property.

but see how the costs and areas shift but do not change? conservation of energy.

so this is terribly impractical.

so again, its an INVERSION, efficiency thorugh inefficiency because they are taking advantage that a slave doesnt value their time like a capitalist does.

later whn they ration food because of all this, how will they have the calories to ride?

hows, this. make a nuclear power plant and instead of powering a city, you can build office tower sized internal farms right near cities that could literally grow anything. AND power the city and so forth cheaply the more of it you have.

and its land footprint is smaller than a college campus.

so their effeciency method is based in ludditism and some arcane idea that subsistence is more efficient.

I had no idea Jones soda was a moonbat operation. I almost bought a cream soda once, but thought better and went with my standard A&W. Thank Christ. Jones and PepsiCo are on my permanent shit list.

Posted by: Right0fReagan at April 24, 2009 6:09 AM

I also wonder, how much pedaling does it take to offset the food they have to eat to have the energy to pedal?

Nothing is free. Energy can't come out of nowhere.

Good grief... I remember a bicycle hooked up to a generator at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago in the late 40's. We seem to be going backwards as a nation. At least back then if you pedaled long enough, a penny would fall in a tray for you.

Artfldgr: youre my hero. Thats worded so elequently, it dashes the argument they try to ram down out throat. As far as I'm concerned, jones soda is nasty and makes a waste of my good likker. these fakers are like the reast of them. A fit rider can generate 200 watts an hour and lets say he could keep it up for 8 hours (which he couldn’t) – that would equal 1.6 kw hours in a day – equal to about 15 cents worth of electricity – I’m all for companies that do this as long as they can keep liberals working for 2 cents an hour. Of course the current administration would find that these people need to be paid a “living wage” for their efforts so you and I would end up subsidizing.

Maybe its really a soda company AND a health spa gymnasium? get all the fatties to join up and use the 'exercise machines' to lower their footprint, while powering the company they pay to keep running.

thats the next thing. wait. mark my words. someone will try to hook up the machines in a gym. and no one will ever realize how they parallel hamsters in a cage, who have been turned into drought horses in which they pay for the priveledge.

You are probably right that vegans can't really pack on the muscle. But if they supplement their diet with egg white and whey protein, they can really get big. I've been around some absolute monsters on that diet (Damn guys looked like they should be on rails). They did consume a lot of egg white, whey, and soy protein as well as wheat germ. They cut their fat intake way down and were probably avoiding some of the kidney problems somebody consuming 4,000 cal/day of meat might run into. Uric acid can pile up and you start needing xanthine oxidase inhibitors if you eat that much meat. They also eat a lot of mixed nuts that are low salt or salted with sea salt. Usually they also make sure they are taking a lot of B-12 and if they aren't tanning a lot they hit the Cod liver oil. They usually take flax oil for the omegas.

Anybody under twenty should not be eating this kind of diet--they should be eating meat.

SnowSnake,
you realize that without modern biology all that isnt possible?

how would a gladiator get egg whites, and whey protein? go the local vitimin store? and dont forget tehre are a few things in meat that you need to live that are not available in plants!!!

and 4000 is not enough. midevil fat preists were thought to maintain a 6000 calorie a day habit. church was a good job then.

Vassily Alexiev / en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasiliy_Alekseyev

During his peak weightlifting years, he used to eat a 36-egg omelette for breakfast every day

[they say citation needed but i remember the film clip of him eating breakfast when he was on tv and was breaking records left and right]

one large egg is aroung 100 calories given other things like oil. so thats 3600 calories as PART of his breakfast. i also remember him eating a few steaks and several loaves of bread

pro football linemen eat as much as 7000 a day.

looking at the chart of vegetables, and selecting the highest calorie i can grab at first take.

100g mashed potato with butter, 104 calories.

more than 2 pounds of potatoes to get 7000 calories.

and eating like that, no one can fight with that much vegetable matter going through them.

they would have to fast a couple od days before just so they dont bust a gut and so they can leave the toilet.

and regular vegitables are worse.

you need 1000 lbs of broccli

100g at 24 calories a gram.
7000/24 = 100 gram units
* 100 = grams
/28 = lbs

so if they are not eating meat, there is no way to get that calorie load even into your mouth!!!!

thanks for a great answer!!!
