The Sincerest Form of Flattery

The idea of a genuine grass roots uprising that isn't funded by sinister George Soros types has intrigued liberals to the point that they have tried throwing some Tea Parties of their own. The result: epic fail.

On tips from Kevin R and nancz.

Obamas voters are having a case of buyers remorse.

Whats enraging them the most? Bailouts being much larger under Obama, Obama finally agreeing that Bush's surveillance of suspected terrorist was the right thing to do and continuing it, not immediately closing Gitmo, increasing troop levels in Afghanistan, ect.

In fact I know some Obama voters who are joining the Tea Party locally after finally waking up.

Sorry, a bit of topic, but just looking at the "frozen" picture on the Youtube video, it occurs to me that it's time we took back the world "liberal". I know most Moonbattery readers would identify themselves as conservative- fair enough- but even so much of Moonbattery's editorial and comment is liberal, in the proper sense of the word, meaning citizenship, individual freedom, small government, free markets and so on. The clunky, ill-formed word "libertarian" was coined precisely because in the early-mid 20th century the word "liberal" was stolen by progressive socialists in the USA, to mean subjection rather than citizenship, collectivism rather than individualism, big government, state controlled markets, and so on.

The thing is, they stole it because it's a good word. The root "liber..." immediately makes one think of freedom. And we call western nations on the Anglosphere model "liberal democracies", a term coined to mean "free democracies", which, now that liberal has been made to mean socialist, naturally suggests "socialist democracies".

So they win a propaganda coup. Isn't it time we spoked that wheel? Let's take the word back. Instead of attacking "liberals" we should start saying, "you are not a liberal. I am a liberal," whenever discussing rights, markets and so on. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, small government, personal rights, free markets, low regulation. All true liberal values.

Force the bastards to stop hiding behind a euphemism and start having to admit to being socialists, the word they dread. American conservatives in particular are far more liberal than american "liberals". Isn't it time to say so?

i can emphatically state that i know of no group receiving ANY money from outside groups, television/news organizations. but if they offered it i'm sure we could use it!

Posted by: nancz at April 14, 2009 5:43 AM

That last sentence was meant to mean, American compared to e.g. British or other European conservatives are far more liberal than american liberals, since American conservatives are for instance frequently fighting to uphold the constitution and bill of rights, which are, in the traditional meaning of the word, liberal documents.

Posted by: Ian from the EUSSR at April 14, 2009 5:44 AM

Yes, Ian, the word Liberal has been hijacked over many years, so that if one means "liberal in the classical sense," one would have to insert a long essay explaining. Such is how language evolves.

So that said, I say: Silly socialist from the first post. What's to finance? We don't have to bus ACORN all over creation. We need a piece of cardboard, a stick, and a marker. We probably already own a flag. We march in our own neighborhood on our own two legs.

BTW, the video says "this video no longer available."

I agree with your sentiment entirely. However, socialism is not so dreaded anymore. The arguments from the left have shifted from outright to denial to more along the lines of "well, what's so bad about socialism? You know, man, check out Sweden."

It is time to force the issue, though. You are correct, sir.

Posted by: cowlove at April 14, 2009 6:09 AM

Ian

Good points.
In principle I agree with you. Its distasteful that liberals have highjacked so much of the English language. They deal so much in malignancies however that you cannot keep up.

Liberals will always steal (e.g., malaproping words) and lie ('Fox News pays for...'etc.) about everthing. They're socialists but actually communists. They cannot help themselves.
Its hardly worth the time or aggravation. You'll never reclaim "gay".

Personally, today I just read liberal as "bag of feces".

The "liberal blogger" has the creepy, glassy-eyed moonbat look down pat. What did she say when she walked away? Sounded like: "Uh, excuse me, I left my prescriptions in the car - be right back."

Posted by: forest at April 14, 2009 6:56 AM

Caught this headline on Drudge before going to the governor's office site, but Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas (my homestate) is backing a resolution affirming states' rights under the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution:

http://governor.state.tx.us/news/press-release/12227/.

My favorite quote: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas." I couldn't agree more.

Jane Hamster seems to be your standard movie moonbat; she co-produced crazed conspiracy theorist Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers, she runs a dull blog here and has, of course, written about how she expects to be sent to Guantamo Bay. It's like these people are eternally disappointed that they haven't been arrested yet.

cowlove - my son found this little ditty:

OK, I got it to play. I still don't understand the "financed by Fox News Channel." What goofballs, and they NEVER answer the question.

OK, I gotta say it again!

Q: Know what is dumber than a LIBERAL??

Either you folks are just ignorant or blind to the fact that Conservative Think Tanks are behind this! Rick Santelli's rant was not spontaneous. Your high profile speakers at these events are being paid for, the parks and other sites require permits that must be paid for etc. Take a look at the business of FreedomWorks, and their well funded operation under Dick Armey...a paid fucking lobbyist! Insert Fox, AFP, Heritage...the same kind of nonsense you are protesting against. In addition, you are having a teabagging orgy of sorts. While I do not doubt, a handful of these were formed in cafes, living rooms, and bars, the overall cause is still about protecting big biz. If you think the left is scared, you are wrong, we are having a good laugh.

Seems to me, nonymouse, that "big biz" is very much in bed with the Democratic administration.

If you say so. If I think something is funny, I tend to just laugh, not head to various websites and spew unsupported, paranoid ramblings. Maybe that's just me.

Beat me to it Kevin. I don't know when these idiots are going to notice that vast swaths of big business are being co-opted by statist politicians in both parties - more on the Democrat side, but plenty of big government "Republicans" too.

Posted by: forest at April 14, 2009 10:53 AM

Anonypussy is just a prime example of the hypocritical socialist jackass.

Take a good look between the last election and ACORN. Fucking cheaters.

The left is scared....does the fairness doctrine ring a bell all you leftist jackass Obomites?

Posted by: Watching at April 14, 2009 12:28 PM

Methinks they do protest too much...

Liberal Logic: (ok, stop laughing, just bear with me here)

"We use surreptitious funding from big backers on the extreme fringe of our ideology; try to (and sometimes succeed) at tweaking the ballot-box; have big media outlets on our side; and are supported by numerous big businesses... so THEY MUST DO IT TO! I mean, bro, there ain't no other way to do it, right?"

Face it lefties... your "grassroots" are gray, and they grow out of George Soros' head.

Anonymouse, you should try harder to post a good comment.

1. "Either you folks are just ignorant or blind to the fact that Conservative Think Tanks are behind this!"

You`ve gotten this wrong. This movement began at the level of the individual. The conservative groups you speak of decided to "get behind" the movement when they realized the movement had legs.

2. "Rick Santelli's rant was not spontaneous. Your high profile speakers at these events are being paid for, the parks and other sites require permits that must be paid for etc. Take a look at the business of FreedomWorks, and their well funded operation under Dick Armey...a paid fucking lobbyist! Insert Fox, AFP, Heritage...the same kind of nonsense you are protesting against."

Whether or not the rant of Rick Santelli was spontaneous, the fact that people identify with his sentiments makes his rant valid. It`s sort of like conservative talk radio. If the audience thought the speakers were full of horse feathers, the audience might go away and listen to something more worthwhile. A perfect example would be the failed attempt Air America. A lack of audience caused this program to die.

3. In addition, you are having a teabagging orgy of sorts. While I do not doubt, a handful of these were formed in cafes, living rooms, and bars, the overall cause is still about protecting big biz.

We all know what "teabagging" is. Your innuendo is pathetic. The overall cause is actually about the extraordinary spending of the Federal Government since the inauguration of President Obama, and his agenda that will move this nation even further towards socialism.

4. If you think the left is scared, you are wrong, we are having a good laugh.

Your emotions really aren`t at issue here. Although you claim to be having a laugh, my experience with the "enlightened" is they rarely if ever find anything amusing, but instead are usually unhappy about something or other.

Posted by: Anonymous at April 14, 2009 4:53 PM

What a joke. Hey dumbass, Air America is on the air, and doing fairly these days. I suggest you rethink the ridiculous idea that "teabagging" is an individual idea. Most Conservatives wouldn't recognize an individual thought if it you bit you. Furthermore, the initial spending, which really bailed corporations out started last fall. You may want to read over the schedules for tomorrow , and maybe you could generous enough to make a donation to Freedom Watch, they are seeking donations.

A long time ago I knew a woman who was an avowed Marxist. She was simply aghast that the Democratic party was openly talking about government/business partnership. Nothing new here today. The Democrats have always been the Party of big business/government partnership.
