Comrade Obama Rewards His Constituents
Credit were credit is due: Even as the lowlife Arlen S.P.E.C.T.R.E. knifes his constituents in the back, Comrade Obama has been sticking up for his own:
The Obama administration joined a federal judge Wednesday in urging Congress to end a racial disparity by equalizing prison sentences for dealing and using crack versus powdered cocaine.
"Jails are loaded with people who look like me," U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, an African-American, told a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing.
Because blacks are more likely to smoke crack, the punishment for this activity will be lessened.
Next our new rulers will lighten sentences for other crimes disproportionately committed by sacred Negroes: rape, armed robbery, et cetera. Theft — aka "spreading the wealth around" — has already been addressed. Thieves are no longer punished even by having to get off the couch, now that the government does the stealing on their behalf.

On a tip from nancz.

Raise the penalty for cocaine to match the penalty for crack. Problem solved.
Oh, but there's still going to be more African-Americans in prison than Caucasians. As to why that is, we are only allowed to discuss one possible explanation: Racism.

Revised sentences for drug possession/use - zero.
Drugs are a health problem, not a law enforcement problem. We could have saved three-quarters of the direct expense and fifty percent of our prison costs by treating this as a health issue.
It's been said that government never learns from history. Those folks are dead wrong. The Feds learned from Prohibition that you can create a HUGE bureaucracy with a prohibition on something the public wants. Just look at The War On Drugs. QED.

On the bright side, this will be a huge 'stimulus' for the crack cocaine industry in America.

Yes, we all know crack dealers are non-violent and never broke any other laws. s/

Did it occur to the liberal doofuses to make the penalty for both, not only the same, BUT harsher than they are now?
No?
Is Obama thinking of snorting coke again, and is thinking ahead, just in case?
Or what?
SnnoOoOoOoOoort!

Here again the opportunity exists. We should totally decriminalize crack. Why not just give crack away? In fact maybe even pay people a little money to use it. That would decrease the amount of crime involved in getting it and paying for it. The people who use it eventually die (usually soon if they have an unlimited supply) and the problem is really solved.
Distribution is not a problem--just hire some people with stimulus money. Ethics and moral issues are not a problem--most of the people in power have not reached the high moral standards required of a whore or crack dealer but we could make a special case for this cause.

We could solve the drug problem tomorrow - dump all narcotics dealers on some deserted Island in the middle of the Pacific and make them take turns pushing a button every 108 minutes or the Island explodes.

As Ann Coulter researched, the blame lies with single motherhood and the government programs that encourage it:
A 1990 study by the Progressive Policy Institute showed that after controlling for single motherhood, the difference between black and white crime rates disappeared. It found that children brought up in single-mother homes ‘are five times more likely to commit suicide, nine times more likely to drop out of high school, 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances, 14 times more likely to commit rape (for the boys), 20 times more likely to end up in prison, and 32 times more likely to run away from home.’

It's perfectly fair to have stronger sentences for essentially the same drug in different forms. And the laws have clearly worked - no one does crack any more. So obviously, the sentencing disparity serves an important purpose, and the only real motivation one could have for repealing it would be rewarding one's constituents, not some sense of basc fairness. It all makes sense. If you're a retard.
But the racism... well that's just more for my money! Sticking up for his "own", sacred negros and the increased amount of crimes they commit - wonderful touches.
Say it with me fellow Americans: my president is black, my president is black, my president is black.
Don't worry. It will have to sink in sooner or later, and at some point you'll have to
stop crying.
Actually, maybe you won't.

My president smoked crack, my president smoked crack, my president smoked crack. Oh, now I get it. Wow, this is cool.
Posted by: Eric at April 30, 2009 5:49 AM
You're absolutely right, pan, this is entirely racist. Just look at the judge's own statement, "Jails are loaded with people who look like me."
And? That's the basis for relaxing the sentencing guidelines for crack-cocaine offenses? The race of the offenders? But even mentioning it makes the commenter (Van) racist?
I imagine that kind of logic can only be found at the end of a crack pipe.

They're not lowering the MMS for crack. They're raising the MMS for cocaine. Get your facts straight.
Posted by: xtinguisher at April 30, 2009 11:22 AM
xtinguisher, read the article.
Walton said, "We were mistaken" to enact the disparity. "There's no greater violence in cases before me."
In New York last month, state leaders reached an agreement to repeal the last vestiges of the Rockefeller drug laws, once seen as the harshest in the nation. Kentucky enacted changes that would put more addicts in treatment, and fewer behind bars.
He also suggested that until such changes are made, federal prosecutors may encourage judges to use their discretion to depart from the current sentencing guidelines. Such departures are rare in the federal courts.
The entire article is one big argument for lowering the minimum sentencing guidelines for offenses related to crack to reflect the guidelines for offenses related to cocaine.
"Get your facts straight," indeed.

No, you stupid fucking idiot. Because in the beginning, blacks were more likely to use cracks, the sentencing guidelines were unfairly adjusted to provide more harsh penalties for crack than for powdered cocaine.
This is not favoring blacks. It is leveling the playing field of felons. Thank you stupid fucking Ronny Raygun for that bit of right wing racism.

Jail anyone and everyone who uses any mind-altering substance, period. Throw away the key. Alcohol, coke, coffee, nicotine, OTC painkillers, included. The key is to prevent people who like to get high from having children. Once they have been excised from the population, we will all be better for it. It's not the particular drug that's the problem -- it's the instinct to want to be in another mental state. We need to eliminate that from the genepool.

Rofl, read.the.article.
No one is claiming it's "favoring blacks." Why not increase the cocaine minimum sentencing guidelines to match those of crack-related offenses? Oh, I forgot, because according to a district court judge, "Jails are loaded with people who look like me." But no, basing laws and sentencing guidelines on race certainly isn't racist by definition. No sirree, not at all.
