The Big Lie

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:16 AM

From the International Arctic Research Center:

AMSRE_Sea_Ice_Extent.gif

The red line indicates that we have the highest observed Arctic ice levels in years.

Meanwhile, from the mendacity industry:

Halt Ice Melt, Pleads Gore
Arctic Ocean Could Be Ice-free in Summer Within 100 Years, Scientists Say
Scientists Issue Warning on Future of Central Arctic
Massive Surge in Disappearance of Arctic Sea Ice Sparks Global Warning
New Warning Over 'Catastrophic' Sea Level Rise, Scientists Claim

There are a million more where these came from. The underlying theory was pioneered by Joseph Goebbels:

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Goebbels continues:

The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

By the same token, the liberal media is the greatest friend of the State.

Biden: Panic!

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:29 AM

This morning, Plugs Biden had this to say on NBC's Decay show in light of the Mexican flu:

I would tell members of my family — and I have — I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now. It's not that it's going to Mexico. It's [that] you're in a confined aircraft. When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft. That's me. …
So, from my perspective, what it relates to is mitigation. If you're out in the middle of a field when someone sneezes, that's one thing. If you're in a closed aircraft or closed container or closed car or closed classroom, it's a different thing.

Stay home from school, stay off airplanes, and whatever you do, don't get on public transportation. But there's no need to get really carried away by asking the government to assert control over the Mexican border.

Almost immediately, the White House put some words into a Biden spokesweenie's mouth, to the effect that he actually meant something very different from what he clearly said. Apparently shutting down transportation in a hysterical panic isn't the government's policy after all.

It's hard to say what's scarier: that Biden is a heartbeat away, or that someone with such atrocious judgment as to make him VP is already in the Oval Office.

No More "Explaining Process"

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:04 AM

At last Nancy Pelosi has made herself useful, by succinctly explaining the significance of Benedict Arlen's despicably selfish defection to the Dems:

Very exciting, very exciting for the American people, because now we can get things done without explaining process.

For once the bloated bureaucracy is streamlining itself — by eradicating opposition and cutting the people it supposedly represents completely out of the loop.

Already the fanatics who have taken over Washington have been ramming through bills without even reading them, so that the public has no chance to put up resistance in advance. Thanks to Sphincter's treachery, the Senate will soon become a rubber stamp for the radical left.

It will take at least a century to recover from the damage this kakistocracy is doing to the country, assuming we ever do.

Harry Reid Floats on River of Out-of-State Cash

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:38 AM

Las Vegas provides its share of decadence, but Nevada is for the most part a down-to-earth place populated by the sort of decent people the liberal elite sneers at. How could it have inflicted on this country the corrupt and treasonous leftist weasel Harry Reid? Western Representation PAC crunched the numbers and came up with the answer: Dingy Harry has deep pockets, as a result of infusions of cash from outside Nevada.

This graph represents total contributions to Friends for Harry Reid in Q1 2009:

Incredibly, only 5% of the money used to buy his seat comes from the state he allegedly represents. But at least Reid's contributions come from within the USA, unlike some of Comrade Obama's.

Bank of America Gets a New Chairman

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:55 AM

Bank of America has fired chairman Kenneth Lewis, and come up with a new chairman, Walter Massey, who is much more suited to today's American business environment.

Whatever Massey's other qualifications, it would be naive not to suspect that his racial credentials got him the job. Massey is so ethnically correct, he's the president emeritus of historically all-black Morehouse College. So there's a pretty good chance he won't meet the fate of former GM chairman Rick Wagoner, who was fired by the Moonbat Messiah, marking a major milestone in our descent into authoritarianism.

Remember us when you're putting together the next $trillion bailout, Chairman Zero, sir. We're playing ball.

Obama's ACORN Brownshirts Close Down Auction

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:37 AM

Archetypal progressive Benito Mussolini famously said:

All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.

Yet statists often find it useful to exploit cat's paws that are technically outside of the government, like the "students" who terrorized China during Mao's Cultural Revolution, and kidnapped Americans during the theocratic revolution in Iran. Another example is Obama's friends and former employers at ACORN. Even between elections, with few opportunities for voter fraud, ACORN activists busily put the training they received from The Anointed One to work. Look what they got up to yesterday:

A large crowd of protesters disrupted several foreclosure auctions today on the Sacramento County Courthouse steps, winning temporary cancellation of one Sacramento foreclosure and sending an auctioneer to the hospital with chest pains. …
About 75 statewide members of the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now, in the capital for a lobbying day on housing issues, delayed at least three auctioneers from selling foreclosed homes today. …
[P]rotesters surrounded the group, chanting, blowing whistles and creating a commotion that made it impossible to hear. The auctioneer, who had a pacemaker according to associates, began to collapse and was later taken to a local hospital.
The protest continued for about 90 minutes. ACORN members left after cheering a concession by LPS Financial Services to cancel a specific requested foreclosure auction for one Sacramento family.

ACORN's objectives regarding the housing crisis it was instrumental in causing are clear. They want to undermine the property rights upon which all other rights rest. Their tactics, like their ideology, are quintessentially communist. One of these goons is now sitting in the Oval Office.

Comrade Obama Rewards His Constituents

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:35 AM

Credit were credit is due: Even as the lowlife Arlen S.P.E.C.T.R.E. knifes his constituents in the back, Comrade Obama has been sticking up for his own:

The Obama administration joined a federal judge Wednesday in urging Congress to end a racial disparity by equalizing prison sentences for dealing and using crack versus powdered cocaine.
"Jails are loaded with people who look like me," U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, an African-American, told a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing.

Because blacks are more likely to smoke crack, the punishment for this activity will be lessened.

Next our new rulers will lighten sentences for other crimes disproportionately committed by sacred Negroes: rape, armed robbery, et cetera. Theft — aka "spreading the wealth around" — has already been addressed. Thieves are no longer punished even by having to get off the couch, now that the government does the stealing on their behalf.

Freakazoid Awarded $500,000 of Your Money

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:20 AM

America is still the land of opportunity, even now that it's ruled by liberals. Here's how you can make a quick half $million at taxpayer expense:

A federal judge has awarded a former Army Special Forces commander nearly $500,000 because she [sic] was rejected from a job at the Library of Congress while transitioning from a man to a woman.
Diane Schroer of Alexandria, Va., applied for the terrorism analyst job while she [sic] was still a man named David Schroer. He was offered the job, but the offer was pulled after he told a library official that he was having surgery to change his gender.
U.S. District Judge James Robinson ruled Tuesday that Schroer was entitled to $491,190 in back pay and damages because of sex discrimination.

Naturally, the ACLU was on hand to assist in the looting.

If you try this scam yourself, I don't advise actually going through with the chemical/surgical transformation into a xenosexual freakazoid. You'd be much better off working for the money, like people did in the olden days.

Did Jet Scare Have Hollyweird Connection?

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:03 AM

Forget rogue dictators developing weapons of mass destruction. We've got an Axis of Evil much closer to home. It runs between Tinseltown and the District of Criminals. New Yorkers may have seen it in action Monday, when the Obama Administration terrified thousands by deciding it needed to film Air Force One flying low over Ground Zero, escorted by fighter jets. Commenter Mustang0302 at Just One Minute offers some observations and a theory:

At least one of the escorting F-16s was from the Alabama ANG, Red Tail and all.
Could this photo op mission have any particular connection to a new movie due out this year?
Could that connection explain the WHMO's eagerness to get some current glamour shots of BHO's A/C, escorted by the descendants of the Tuskegee Airmen, while flathatting over "the target formerly known as Ground Zero"?
Just imagine the powerful, beautiful imagery of these aircraft during this mission, accompanied by a stirring soundtrack, playing over the closing credits, or released as publicity stills or fundraising fodder — "Yes, America, sleep well…BHO's got you covered."
Well, minus the terrified, fleeing citizens on the ground, of course.

The reference is to "Red Tails," an upcoming movie about black fighter pilots by moonbatty George Lucas, who would most likely be more than happy to lend cheesy propaganda support to the irresponsible regime that is dismantling our country.

Fox News Pummels Competition

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:28 AM

The gulf between the ruling class and the American people is widening fast. As the establishment press twists itself in knots trying to convince us that we like what our liberal rulers are doing to our country, Fox News — the de facto opposition press — has seen its ratings shoot through the ceiling:

Fox News beat CNN and MSNBC combined in every hour from 6amET to MidnightET in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo for April 2009.
FNC had the top 11 cable news programs in Total Viewers and 12 of the top 15 in the demo. FNC is the #2 network in Total Viewers on all of cable.
From 9amET on, every program grew by more than 60% in the demo. The 5pmET hour, now occupied by Glenn Beck, is up 212% in the demo and up 128% in Total Viewers. Your World with Neil Cavuto is up 102% in the demo and up 60% in Total Viewers. On the Record with Greta Van Susteren is up 75% in demo and up 55% in Total Viewers. Also in demo: FOX Report is up 75%, Special Report 70%, The O'Reilly Factor 74% and Hannity 64%.

Meanwhile, at slavishly pro-government MSNBC, militant leftist Rachel Maddow has seen her popularity with the critical 25-54 demographic fall by a staggering 50% just since October.

As with the Tea Parties, those who do not like what's happening to this country can see that they are far from alone.

More Kudos for Gun Salesman of the Year

Comrade Obama has been a predictable flop as president, but as Gun Salesman of the Year, his performance has been fantastic. AmmoLand.com reports that law-abiding Americans bought enough guns in the first 3 months of 2009 to outfit the entire Chinese and Indian armies. US costumers bought 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition in just the month of December last year.

I picked up 1,000 rounds myself last weekend at the Crossroads of the West gun show in Phoenix, which was absolutely packed. The Second Amendment is alive and well, despite its hard left opponents having consolidated control of the federal government.

Caution: Public Pervert Crossing

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:00 AM

It's thoughtful of Holland to show a little consideration for those who haven't yet completely succumbed to degeneracy:

A park near Amsterdam has unveiled information signs pointing out spots where officials say gay men are known to have sex, so visitors are not taken by surprise.
The signs "clearly indicate what is happening in each zone; also those where gay men are known to practice 'cruising'," municipal spokeswoman Manon Koffijberg said.
Cruising is a slang word used to describe the act of trawling for casual sex.
"If you don't want to be confronted by a vision of that sort, the signs allow you to avoid specific areas," Ms Koffijberg said.
The De Oeverlanden park in Slotervaart, south-west of Amsterdam, is known as a place where homosexuals from all over the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe go in search of sex partners.
Ms Koffijberg said that while having sex in public was against the law, the park has been used for this purpose for so long that it has become "gedoog", a Dutch word for tolerating unwanted behaviour.

I'm guessing the signs won't be necessary when Muslims become a majority in Holland, which could happen within a few decades.

Benedict Arlen Defects to the Dems

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:01 AM

There's one more Dem in the Senate, but one fewer treacherous, insidious RINO in the Republican Party:

Veteran GOP Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania intends to switch political parties and run in the Democratic primary in 2010, FOX News has confirmed.
Republican voters had sent him to the Senate five times. But faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and the state trending Democratic, Specter jumped ship.

If the obnoxious professional clown Al Franken is successful in his appalling bid to steal a Senate seat in Minnesota, this will give the Dems a filibuster-proof majority, ensuring that nothing slows down the headlong rush into socialist ruin.

But Specter was virtually a Democrat anyway, having gone so far as to vote for Obama's obscene $787 Porkzilla spending extravaganza, an act of sabotage that will inflict long-term damage on our economy. He has been the definitive RINO, always eager to cut deals with liberals that allow him to advance his short-term interests at the expense of the country's well-being. This is the "Republican" who denounced the concept of defending our borders as "racism and xenophobia."

Only by ridding itself of the lowly likes of Specter will Republicans reemerge as the party that can rebuild the country by upholding the principles that made it great. My only regret is that Spectacle doesn't take his fellow "stimulus" porkers Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe along with him.

Moonbat Anti-Semitism Festers

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:22 AM

Jewish voters are not getting much thanks for overwhelmingly supporting the left. Just as American liberals pander to anti-Semites like Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan (whose "Messiah" they actually put in the White House), in Britain Jews get the shaft in favor of groups deemed more politically correct.

Labour Party member Elaina Cohen, seeking to be selected as a Council candidate in Birmingham, claims she was told by a sitting Labour councillor that she was 'too white and Jewish.'
She has made an official complaint and says that the Labour councillor Mahmood Hussain told her he would not support her application for an inner-city ward because 'my Muslim members don't want you because you are Jewish.'

You don't have to Muslim to hate Jews. You just have to hate Western Civilization's outpost in the Middle East.

These days left wing anti Semitism is usually a spill-over from anti Zionism. The cover is to say that it is not anti Semitic to criticise the policies of the Israeli Government.
This is true so far as it goes, but such is the vehemence and so crude the double standards that naturally the Jewish community feels uneasy. They also notice when inflammatory denunciations on Israel coincide with an upsurge of anti Semitic incidents in Britain.
The Left, including the National Union of Journalists, backs a boycott of Israeli goods — the only country in the world to be singled out in this way. Student Unions ban Jewish societies on college campuses (on the grounds that they are 'Zionist') while academics ban involvement with Israeli academic institutions.
The Left attacks the 'Jewish lobby' for seeking to sustain a 'Zionist conspiracy.'

If there's a "Jewish lobby," it's decidedly liberal: nearly 80% of American Jews voted for the ultra-left Obama, who was endorsed by Hamas, sucks up to Iran, and clearly won't be defending Jewish interests. Once again we see that moonbattery is not so much an ideology as a psychiatric disorder. If self-preservation gets the upper hand over neurotic self-hatred, voting patterns will change.

How AP Works Its Moonbat Magic

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:33 AM

Considering that the Marxist vermin who have taken over the government are plunging the country into economic ruin, it's remarkable that even the libs at AP could come up with a poll indicating that 48% of Americans think the country "is headed in the right direction" — since that direction is obviously straight down.

But like magic, liberal "journalism" isn't so mystifying, once you learn how it's done. As we are told nowhere in the AP article, only 18% of the people surveyed were Republicans.

Next, AP will triumphantly hype a poll showing that Obama has a 99% approval rating, while discreetly failing to note that the poll was taken in the county jail.

A Flight Down Memory Lane

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:58 AM

Of all the gaffes that have summed up the Obama Administration, none more perfectly reflects its out-of-touch cluelessness than having a fighter jet chase Air Force One over the socket where the World Trade Center should be for the sake of some cheesy photo op. The scene in Lower Manhattan yesterday:

A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings. …
The planes flew over the Verrazano Bridge, buzzed the left ear Lady Liberty and then continued up the Hudson past Jersey City and then circling back toward Staten Island, federal sources told the Post.
Thousands flooded the streets downtown as buildings called evacuations.
"There is situation outside. We don't have any further information," went one announcement at the Embassy Suites downtown.

Our rulers wanted a picture of Comrade Obama's flying palace in front of the Statue of Liberty. Apparently, they've never heard of Photoshop.

Pedophiles Are Special, Our Troops Aren't

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:42 PM

If we're going to discard the crucial concept of equality before the law for the sake of "hate crimes" legislation, why not punish hate crimes against our troops? An outraged Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) explains why: because comparing abused military personnel to "real victims" like blacks and homosexuals is "belittling" to the privileged special interest groups favored by progressives.

Pedophiles, on the other hand, appeal to liberals enough to be granted special "real victim" status:

[Iowa Republican Rep. Steve] King offered an amendment that would have barred pedophiles from receiving special protection under the hate crimes bill. The amendment was defeated on a party-line vote 13-10. Congresswoman [Tammy] Baldwin [D-WI] said that amendment was "unnecessary and inflammatory."

On a farm run by liberals, pedophiles are more equal than other animals. The soldiers who offer their lives to defend them as they wallow in their filth are not.

Village of Moonbats Enacts Recruiting Ban

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:55 AM

The war in Iraq is pretty much won, but that doesn't stop moonbats from sticking it to the military any way they can. The hippies infesting Arcata, California have passed a measure making it illegal for military personnel to discuss the merits of service with anyone under 18:

The law was the inspiration of former Arcata City Councilman Dave Meserve, who gained national attention after his 2002 election by spearheading a first-in-the-nation law making compliance with the USA Patriot Act illegal.
The council followed up with repeated resolutions calling for Bush's impeachment and withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Meserve's failure to win re-election in 2006 is generally attributed to voter weariness of his sometimes divisive activism.
Not easily deterred, in late 2007, Meserve began thinking about ways to re-engage his town against the war. He hit on military recruiting, which he saw as a link between war overseas and everyday life at home, and he decided that instead of going to the same activists or to the council, he'd go to the ballot.

Me-serve — what a perfect name for a typically self-serving progressive parasite.

The senseless measure — which the federal government will have overturned in court — is credited to the town's "spirit of self-reliance and self-determination," as if American soldiers die defending the rest of the country, but not Arcata.

Nice try, moonbats, but as insults to the military go, you'll never top electing Barack Obama as Commander in Chief.

The Goracle Demonstrates How to Get Rich Without Being Useful

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:57 AM

Sneering,

Do you think there's something wrong with being active in business in this country?

isn't The Goracle's only defense against observations that he's been profiteering mightily from the global warming hoax. There is also his claim that all the loot goes into a nonprofit, as if that doesn't mean it goes on from there to finance his jet-set lifestyle. Pro Patria reports:

So just what has Al Gore gained from his Big Green escapades? According to public disclosure information, Gore was worth somewhere between $1 million and $2 million in 2000. Not quite eight years later, Gore is estimated to be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million. While I ordinarily would applaud such financial gains from such a short period of time, I can't help but to question just how it happened. When you look out at what Al Gore has done, it's evident that he figured out on a way to capitalize on the creation of Big Green while becoming the official doomsday prophet that has helped to build Big Green into the monetary powerhouse that it has become.

Imagine how rich he'll be after his Kleiner Perkins outfit cashes in from the global warming legislation he has been pushing on Capitol Hill. Unfortunately, unlike the capitalist exploiters of yesteryear, who gave us railroads and steel and automobiles, crony capitalist Al Gore produces nothing of any value whatsoever.

In other environmental news, Gore has declared that our new national healthcare system will be used to provide all Americans with specialized genetic therapy, developed with money invested by Kleiner Perkins, that will allow us to adapt to the allegedly warmer climate. To show he's sincere, Prince Albert underwent the treatment himself:

Springtime in Obamaland

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:53 AM

Since ridicule of the Moonbat Messiah and his acolytes is off limits in any media our liberal establishment would be exposed to, there is nothing to remind Obamamites of their own absurdity. Consequently, they just keep laying it on thicker and thicker. From an AP report on a bird's nest at the White House:

This is a story about a fledgling family at America's most famous address, an inspiring saga about new beginnings, the audacity of hope and perhaps even dreams from a father.
More specifically, it's about a robin's nest. …
What motivated this mother robin to choose the White House grounds for a home — let alone this particular bush among the thousands of shrubs and trees on its 18 acres? Was it the closeness to the seat of power? …
For the briefing room's mother robin, roosting outside this particular door can't help but involve an element of hope — the kind that comes in making an unlikely home, or in the miracle of birth and the circle of life. …

The chicks were abandoned by their lowlife dad, just like The Anointed One:

Meantime, the father seems somewhat less audacious. In fact, Edmonds reports, he's hardly been seen. Is it too much to wonder if the chicks dream his dreams, too?

Enviromoonbat Shower Curtain That Kills

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:27 AM

According to moonbat science, water that runs down the drain doesn't go back into the system, but pours out a pipe at the bottom of the planet, dispersing irrecoverably into outer space. This is why water conservation is so important, and why moonbats disapprove of taking showers. Jennifer Aniston limits herself to 3-minute showers. Cate Blanchett has stopped washing her hair. Other moonbats have renounced personal hygiene altogether, as can be confirmed at any left-wing rally.

But now there's a product that allows moonbats to shower without guilt:

The idea was designed by Elisabeth Buecher who answered the question: "How can your shower fight water overconsumption in either a disturbing or a gorgeous way, using innovative materials, printing techniques and inflatable technology?" Her response: This shower curtain slowly inflates around you while you shower. It leaves you only a few minutes to take your shower before trapping you.

Moonbats who get out of the shower before being suffocated know that the indulgence was kept suitably short so as not to compromise the pious self-righteousness that is an environmentalist's chief solace. If they stay in too long and the shower curtain gets the better of them, they'll be prevented from exhaling any more allegedly toxic CO2. Either way, the planet wins.

The 30" x 54" acrylic painting, by Michael D'Antuono, is entitled, "The Truth." It is evidently not a sick joke, but an actual tribute, inspired by religious awe. The title is a reference to John 14:6.

Al Gore, Capitalist

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:33 AM

The vast majority of Americans will become significantly less wealthy as a consequence of the global warming lunacy currently unfolding in the District of Criminals. But not Al Gore: he stands to make a fortune off the pernicious hoax he has done so much to promote. His defense when called on it by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) was priceless:

The Goracle's money quote:

Do you think there's something wrong with being active in business in this country?

This from a slimy profiteer who will help drive countless jobs overseas by making it all but impossible to be active in business in this country — unless that business is the global warming swindle. The arrogance of our moonbat ruling class is truly staggering.

Meanwhile, as Prince Albert asserted the pride he takes in looting his country through fraud and crony capitalism, Lord Christopher Monckton — former science advisor to Margaret Thatcher and an outspoken critic of the hoax Gore has been exploiting — was forbidden to testify, despite having been invited by Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee.

We don't need to hear from "deniers" now that we have a "consensus," right Prince Albert?

Make It the Latter

"Funny or Die" is a grim choice for B-list Tinseltown moonbats who seem to think conformity with the militant moonbat agenda is a substitute for talent, because they are anything but funny:

Unsurprisingly, Hollyweird has come out swinging on behalf of leftist bully Perez Hilton in his jihad against Carrie Prejean, the California beauty queen who refused to endorse homosexual "marriage."

Tinsletown took to Twitter, as the likes of Shanna Moakler, Giuliana Rancic, Holly Madison and Heidi Montag Tweeted their outrage.
Moakler, who is co-chair of the Miss California pageant, Twittered "I agree with Perez 100 [percent]."
E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic Twittered on Tuesday that "I know i'm a journalist, and i should be objective … but she is an ignorant disgrace and she makes me sick to my stomach."

All this hatred is for being willing to give up a crown before giving up her principles. But you couldn't really expect someone with her head screwed on as straight as Prejean's to get a warm reception in the cesspool moonbats have made out of Hollywood.

Look Who's Disarming Us

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:06 AM

HR45 [aka the Blair Holt bill] is such a blatant attack on the Second Amendment, you would think it must be a hoax. But Snopes assures us otherwise:

In a nutshell, the Blair Holt bill would:
• Prohibit possession of any handguns or any semiautomatic firearms that can accept detachable ammunition-feeding devices (excluding antiques) by anyone who has not been issued a firearm license.
• Require all sales of those types of firearms to go through licensed dealers.
• Direct the Attorney General to establish and run a federal record-of-sale system.
• Require the possessors of firearms to secure them (by secure gun storage or safety devices) when they are kept in locales where children might be capable of gaining access to those firearms.
In order to be issued a firearm license under the provisions of the Blair Holt legislation, applicants would be required to submit the following information to the Attorney General:
1. a current, passport-sized photograph of the applicant that provides a clear, accurate likeness of the applicant
2. the name, address, and date and place of birth of the applicant
7. a certificate attesting to the completion at the time of application of a written firearms examination, which shall test the knowledge and ability of the applicant regarding: […blah blah blah…] any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate […blah blah blah et cetera]

It goes on, making crystal clear that federal bureaucrats do not want you to exercise your constitutional right to own a gun.

Needless to say, no provision of this bill will affect criminals, who do not obtain firearms through legitimate channels, or bog themselves down with legal requirements. But the bill does serve a purpose beyond bureaucratic harassment. As the recent Tea Parties made clear, this government is already pushing the farthest limits of what the public will tolerate. It needs to keep very close tabs on where all the guns are, the better to confiscate them in the near future.

The bill is sponsored by a guy who ought to know something about firearms, despite having gone AWOL from the US Army: Bobby Rush, a Congressman who used to be "deputy defense minister" for the Illinois chapter of the anti-Caucasian Marxist cult known as the Black Panthers. He served 6 months on an illegal weapons charge in 1969, the heyday of the ideology that is now being imposed from Washington.

To quote Rush himself on his intentions:

Ultimately, I would like to see the manufacture and possession of handguns banned … that's the endgame.

He's also a major proponent of "reparations" to blacks. But he's wise to want to take our guns away first before moving forward with more race-based wealth transfers.

As for the long-term objectives of Rush et al., his recent hajj to Cuba, where he and other Congresscreeps kissed communist dictator Fidel Castro's ring and came back praising him, gives a good idea of the direction in which disarmed Americans will be herded.

Obama Goes to Bat for Ayatollahs

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:50 AM

In case there was any doubt whose side our current rulers are on in the long dispute between America and Iran's terrorist mullahcracy, the Obamination Administration has moved to squash a lawsuit against the Islamic regime by Americans who were taken hostage the last time we let a complete moonbat in the White House.

The Obama administration has asked a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit against Iran filed by Americans held hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran 30 years ago.
The request comes in a $6.6 billion class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington. Fifty-two American diplomats and military officials were held captive for more than a year at the end of Jimmy Carter's presidency by a group of Islamist students who supported the Iranian revolution.
The hostages were released on Jan. 20, 1981, just minutes after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as the new president.
In court papers filed Tuesday night without any announcement, the Justice Department argued that the agreement to release the hostages, known as the Algiers Accords, precluded lawsuits against Iran.

Good thing for Iran it has Obama's Injustice Department on its side — because it is as guilty as you can get.

The hostages argue that Iran supported their confinement and abuse, with visits from government officials, stays in government prisons and buildings and threats of trial in Iranian courts. The lawsuit says current Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was one of their interrogators.
The lawsuit says the hostages were tortured, beaten sometimes until they lost consciousness and kept in fear of their lives, at times even lined up in front of marksmen locking their guns. It says they were imprisoned without adequate food, clothing or medical care, blindfolded with their hands tied, interrogated for hours at a time and kept in isolation for months at a time.

But there's no need to take it personally. That's how things are done in the kind of countries our new government seeks to find favor with.

Obama Wastes >9,000 Gallons of Fuel Jetting Around on Earth Day

Yesterday the Most Equal of All Animals celebrated Earth Day by wasting over 9,000 gallons of fuel on a frivolous trip to Iowa. He went out there to give a speech at a plant manufacturing inefficient but highly symbolic windmills. As even CBS couldn't help but notice.

President Obama could have saved at least 9,116 gallons of fuel by giving his speech at the White House — but no wind turbines are manufactured here.

While Comrade Obama is flown around to his photo ops in luxurious jets, the rest of us face the prospect of power bills that will skyrocket as promised, due to cap and trade lunacy and the coerced use of technology that isn't cost-effective (e.g., windmills). DHS Chief Learns That 9/11 Terrorists Didn't Enter Through Canada

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:36 AM

Maybe there's hope that Janet "Crappy Nappy" Napolitano will do a better job as head of Homeland Security than she as Governor of Arizona, which is still reeling from the financial havoc she caused with her reckless spending. She still has no clue what she's doing, but at least she's learning on the job. Now she even knows that the 9/11 hijackers didn't enter through Canada.

The U.S. Homeland Security chief has clarified earlier remarks that suggested the 9-11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada. … In a release Tuesday night following the interview, she called Canada a "close ally and an important partner" and said she was simply misunderstood.

Here's how she came to be "misunderstood":

The furor began when Napolitano was asked to clarify statements she had made about equal treatment for the Mexican and Canadian borders, despite the fact that a flood of illegal immigrants and a massive drug war are two serious issues on the southern border.
"Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn't have a drug war going on, it didn't have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year," she said.
"Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it's been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there."
When asked if she was referring to the 9-11 terrorists, Napolitano added: "Not just those but others as well."

It doesn't do to misunderstand liberal bureauweenies by thinking they mean what they say.

When informed of her cluelessness, Nappy the Troll blustered:

I can't talk to that. I can talk about the future. And here's the future. The future is we have borders.

We had borders in the past, too. The one between Arizona and Mexico was willfully left undefended under Governor Nappy, helping turn Phoenix into the country's kidnapping capital.

Nappy the Crapster's qualifications for DHS chief are clear: she can be counted on to do absolutely nothing that would enhance the security of the country our current rulers hate.

Fifth-Graders Could Get Reform School Over Defective Internet Filter

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:10 AM

Authorities have settled on a solution to the problem of children viewing pornography online — lock the kids up:

Two American Fork [Utah] fifth-graders could face criminal charges for looking at pornography on a school computer, but some people are wondering how they were able to access the images in the first place.
Police were called last week after two 11-year-old boys at Forbes Elementary School pulled up images of sexual acts on a school computer and then showed the pictures to nine other students, said American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow. The incident came to light when one child told a parent and another told the principal.
Ludlow called the images "pretty explicit" but declined to elaborate. He said the boys made multiple attempts on different days to access inappropriate material. Ultimately, they typed the word "lesbian" into a search engine and were able to pull up pictures not blocked by the school's Internet filter.
The school suspended the boys for two days. They could face charges in juvenile court of dealing in material harmful to a minor or lesser charges for viewing pornography at school, or be referred to the probation department instead of going to court, among other possibilities, said Chris Yannelli, deputy Utah County Attorney. If they are adjudicated in juvenile court, consequences range from community service to serving time in a juvenile detention facility, he said.

Some might argue that it would be the school's responsibility to block inappropriate content, rather than incarcerate little boys for being boys. But accepting responsibility would hardly set a progressive example for the students.

Meanwhile, kids as young as kindergarten are encouraged to explore perverse alternate sexualities, with the eager assistance of authorities.

Eight Most Obnoxious Tinseltown Leftists

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:28 AM

It couldn't have been easy to narrow the list to less than 100, but Teh Resistance Blog pared it down to eight. The three main criteria:

1: Advocacy of insane progressive fascism;
2: Overall obnoxiousness;
3: Hypocrisy.

The competition was so intense, Jon Liebowitz (aka Jon Stewart) barely made the list at #7:

Every night, he sits behind his little Daily Show anchor desk, making his little dopey faces, ripping on Republicans while his audience hoots and applauds like trained seals. As a fake news host, this smug pus-bag isn't worthy to carry Dennis Miller's jock strap.
And then he does that douchebag move where he's happy to be lauded as a journalist and wallow in self-importance, until someone calls him on something stupid he said, and then he indignantly claims to be just a comic. Like any well-trained leftist, he dodges accountability faster than Vince Vaughan dodges the wrench thrown by Rip Torn in Dodgeball.

See if you can guess who took the #1 spot.

Natives Get Restless at GE Shareholders Meeting

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:57 AM

The natives are getting restless at GE, which has followed a classically fascist policy of aligning itself closely with an authoritarian government so as to rake in money for inefficient products that would not be profitable in a free market. One aspect of this strategy has been to use its NBC media holdings to take radical environmentalist and pro-government propaganda to extremes that would embarrass Joseph Goebbels.

A business model that entails using sophomoric propaganda to prop up an intrusive government that in return mandates use of its overpriced light bulbs and largely useless windmills does not strike everyone as wise. Tom Borelli of Free Enterpriser reports from yesterday's GE shareholders meeting:

[My wife] Deneen had the opportunity to ask the first question directed at GE CEO Jeff Immelt. She inquired whether he tried to silence anti-Obama criticism on CNBC as it was reported in the media. The New York Post reported that GE executives were concerned that CNBC was perceived as too critical of President Obama. Immelt responded that he does not interfere with the opinions of his networks even though he doesn't necessarily agree with them.
Deneen's concern is Immelt will do anything to preserve a favorable relationship with Obama in order to sell GE's green technologies. At some point in Deneen's dialogue with Immelt, Deneen's microphone was shut off.
I told Immelt he was not only a threat to shareholders but also to liberty and limited government. I reminded Immelt that the company's stock was underperforming the stock market before the economic crisis.
I advised Immelt that we have an online petition that encourages GE never to trade with enemies [i.e., Iran], to stop pursuing cap-and-trade legislation that would raise energy prices, and that he uses his media empire to advance his agenda.

You can sign Borelli's petition here.

Also on hand at the meeting was GE shareholder and Bill O'Reilly producer Jesse Watters, who wanted to learn more about the extreme left-wing bias of GE's media holdings, particularly the cartoonish MSNBC. His mic was cut too.

According to an attendee:

The crowd was very upset with MSNBC because of its leftward tilt. Some former employees said they were embarrassed by it.

Still more embarrassing is NBC head Jeff Zucker's creepy, cultlike devotion to Obamunism.

The free market works because freedom works. Relying on lies and coercion is not a viable strategy in the long haul, as GE's stockholders are evidently aware.

Just how appallingly ignorant are the shrill Obamunist propagandists who have been driving MSNBC's viewership toward zero? The recent blatherings by Rachel Maddow on the topic of Rick Perry's resistance to federal power grabs should give you an idea:

Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, appears to have his sights set on higher office. What is higher office if you're already governor in Texas? Of course, that would be president of Texas. The return of Confederacy in American politics as seceding from the Union comes back into Republican fashion.

Apparently, liberals have now rewritten history so that it was Republicans who formed the Confederacy. No doubt that would make Abe Lincoln a Democrat.

Some students attempted to disrupt the event from the start, jeering and heckling and setting off personal body alarms that had to be located and turned off by police, according to the news release.
The crowd was warned, and police removed protesters one or two at a time as behavior escalated, according to the university statement.

I'm troubled by the way Apple caved into pressure here. … The last thing we need is for the new digital world to replicate the mushy homogeneity of network television in the 1950s.

In the liberal media, mere mention of the nightmare era of the 1950s — when Americans believed in themselves and could distinguish right from wrong — is enough to scare the herd into agreement.

Hansell should have mentioned that "Baby Shaker" has a redeeming social value: it instills liberal principles by reminding people that a baby's life is worthless, and the only thing that matters is your own cheap and fleeting gratification.

California County Declares Anarchy

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:44 AM

Even as government metastasizes at an unprecedented rate, devouring ever more wealth and running up debts that will crush the economy, bureaucrats find they can't afford to perform the basic functions that justify their regrettable existence. From California, the croaking canary in the coalmine of Big Government moonbattery:

Misdemeanors such as assaults, thefts and burglaries will no longer be prosecuted in Contra Costa County because of budget cuts, the county's top prosecutor said Tuesday.
District Attorney Robert Kochly also said that beginning May 4, his office will no longer prosecute felony drug cases involving smaller amounts of narcotics. … People who are suspected of misdemeanor drug crimes, break minor traffic laws, shoplift, trespass or commit misdemeanor vandalism will also be in the clear. Those crimes won't be prosecuted, either.

Greedy Dems to Tax Internet

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:09 AM

Obamatrons continue to bleat the preposterous lie that 95% of Americans will pay lower taxes under socialism. Meanwhile, in the real world:

Now Congress and Obama have their eyes on the Internet to help fund more government spending — because most U.S. States are pushing for the new tax rules that require federal oversight — and Washington is ready and willing to help. Congress is expected to introduce a bill this week that would require Amazon.com, L.L. Bean, eBay, Cabela's and other online merchants to collect sales tax on all online purchases and return that money to the state in which the purchaser resides — which may force business that make sales online to abide by the tax laws maintained by each and every state.
The new bill rewrites the ground rules for mail order and Internet sales by eliminating what its supporters view as a "loophole" that, in many cases, allows Americans to shop over the Internet without paying sales taxes.

But this is nothing compared to a massive tax hike on all of us that is already in motion. Printing presses are working overtime to churn out increasingly worthless currency to pay for Obama's deficit spending spree. As Alan Greenspan pointed out:

In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. … Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth.

Once the recession lets up, inflation is going to hit like a tidal wave. At least our worthless cash will give us something to burn for heat, as the climate continues to cool, and utility prices are deliberately driven through the ceiling in the name of global warming.

For example, last year an off-duty suburban New York police officer was mistakenly shot by other officers during an altercation. This occurred because Christopher Ridley got up with his gun despite warnings not to, and failed to identify himself as an officer. That would be the end of the story, if not for Ridley's politically fortuitous ethnicity. His father is suing for $90 million on the grounds that he must have been executed for being black.

But the gravy train has hit a little bump on the road:

A witness who claims in a federal lawsuit that Mount Vernon Police Officer Christopher Ridley was executed at point-blank range by a county officer told a different story when first interviewed by White Plains police about the shooting, according to his signed statement to detectives obtained yesterday by The Journal News.
Efrem Burgos said in the statement that he ducked behind a taxi when he heard gunfire and looked up only to see the aftermath of the fatal shooting.
"I heard the cops yelling to put it down. Then the shooting started. As more shots rang out I stopped counting shots and ducked down," Burgos said in the two-page statement that detectives typed and he signed. "I think it was at least two or three shots more that rang out before I stopped counting. I stayed down till all the commotion stopped. Then I got up and seen one person supposedly dead and the other one still alive and handcuffed."
But in a federal lawsuit filed on Burgos' behalf, the homeless man claims that Ridley had already been shot in the abdomen and the leg by two other officers and was no longer holding his own gun when Officer Frank Oliveri walked up to him and shot him in the forehead.

A promised bottle of Thunderbird could probably motivate Burgos to testify that Ridley was shot by space aliens. That this case wasn't immediately dismissed gives an indication of what kind of ideological farce our courts have become.

Ridley's relatives aren't the only vultures cashing in:

Also filing a federal lawsuit on Monday was driver Antonio Howard, whose Volunteers of America van was parked at the shooting scene waiting to transport [Anthony] Jacobs [the derelict Ridley had been struggling with after seeing him beat someone up], Burgos and other homeless men to a shelter.
Howard claims in his civil rights lawsuit that he suffered "severe emotional distress" by witnessing the shooting and that the officers acted negligently by shooting Ridley in such close proximity to where he was.

Maybe I could sue our legal system for giving me chronic indigestion.

Moonbat Judge: Praying to Allah Is Okay, Just Not Christ

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:47 AM

Contrary to popular belief, liberals aren't opposed to prayer. They're only opposed to praying to Jesus. If you want to pray to an Arabian moon god popularized by a blood-thirsty pedophile warlord during the Dark Ages, progressives have your back.

Think Progress takes to task one of the very few responsible leaders in the Senate, James Inhofe (R-OK), for objecting to a ruling that made it okay to offer public prayers to Allah but not Christ. According to the progressive spin, Allah means God, so the term is "nonsectarian."

If they can look you in they eye and tell you that cooler weather is proof of global warming, why shouldn't they tell you that Allah has nothing to do with Islam?

This deranged 2005 ruling is in the news because its author, David Hamilton, has been appointed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. If you think our courts are insane now, wait until Comrade Obama has had a few years to stuff them with militant kooks who will twist sanity into Möbius strips for the sake of suppressing Christianity and our constitutional rights, while promoting the moonbat/Muslim agenda.

By the way, just like our Community Activist in Chief, Hamilton has worked for the radical left outfit ACORN, which specializes in industrial scale voter fraud and using political intimidation to force banks to make bad loans, which precipitated the financial crisis. We are truly living under a kakistocracy.

Today's Celebrations Brought to You by the Unicorn Killer

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:08 AM

Earth Day is a time to honor the bold progressives who managed the astonishing feat of mainstreaming antihuman nihilism by packaging it as "environmentalism." Prominent among them is Ira Einhorn, who was instrumental in establishing Earth Day. When the first one took place in 1970, Einhorn was master of ceremonies.

He has another claim to fame:

While a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Einhorn dated a Bryn Mawr College graduate by the name of Holly Maddux. When the affair ended in 1977, Mr. Einhorn went into a jealous rage and murdered her.
He concealed his crime for 18 months by stuffing Ms. Maddux's body in a trunk that he kept in his apartment. The foul odor of the decomposing corpse coming from Mr. Einhorn's Powelton Village apartment caused neighbors to complain. In 1979, police found the trunk stored in a closet in Mr. Einhorn's apartment.
Ira Einhorn, member of the counterculture pantheon, one of the founders of the environmentalist movement, icon of the liberal intelligentsia, was charged with murder. … At the bail hearing, Mr. Einhorn was praised by a contingent of luminaries — all testifying to his character. There were Ivy League professors, an Episcopalian minister and corporate executives who worked with Mr. Einhorn raising funds. They all stated under oath that he was a man of the greatest integrity.
Arlen Specter, currently Pennsylvania's senior United States Senator, was Mr. Einhorn's attorney. He managed to get the bail set at the unheard of amount of $40,000 for the suspected murderer.

Unsurprisingly, Einhorn jumped bail and escaped the country. We finally got France to cough him up by promising to give him a new trial, after he had been convicted in abstentia. He was found guilty again and given a life sentence in 2002.

Here's where Einhorn — aka the Unicorn Killer — made his second great contribution to the liberal cause:

Proclaiming his innocence, Mr. Einhorn told all that he was framed. He said it was the CIA or the FBI who committed the murder and they were trying to frame him for it because of his political activities.
Some will note that another notorious Philadelphia murderer, Mumia Abu Jamal, used this defense a few years later.

Thanks to Einhorn's clever defense, it is possible for enlightened progressives to lionize even the vilest mad dog killers. This is crucial in a movement not known for attracting the best humanity has to offer.

It's always a pleasure to report good news:

The New York Times Company said in its 2009 First-Quarter conference call that total revenue had declined 18.6 percent. The company's debt at the end of the quarter totaled $1.3 billion.
According to the Times Company's press release this morning, the company suffered an "operating loss of $61.6 million compared with operating profit of $6.2 million in the first quarter of 2008."

Now for the cloud inside the silver lining: As the flagship publication of the liberal elite media establishment, the New York Slimes was instrumental in putting our current rulers in power. Don't be surprised if they return the favor by propping up this loathsome rag with our money.

Moonbats Celebrate One of the Their Gods

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:11 AM

Not to be outdone by the hundreds of thousands of decent Americans who turned out for the Tea Parties last Wednesday, moonbats have gathered en masse to prove that they too hold certain things dear. Just as conservatives love liberty, progressives love obliterating their already fuzzy consciousness with marijuana.

Needless to say, Monday's 4/20 Smoke Out at the University of Colorado had a very different look. Via Looking at the Left:

Chief Heather Fong (left), the first SFPD female chief of police.
Theresa Sparks (center, former male), president of the San Francisco Police Commission, CEO of a multi million-dollar sex toy retailer, and a trans gender woman.
Sgt. Stephan Thorne (right, former female), the first transgender SFPD police officer.

Fong's qualifications prominently include being "the nation's first Asian-American woman to run a big-city police department" and, according View From the Right, a militant lesbian. They do not include competence. She will supposedly be stepping down soon. Chairman Zero to Cut Pocket Change

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:44 AM

Who says Comrade Obama has no sense of fiscal responsibility? He's called upon his henchmen to slash the federal budget by a whopping $100 million.

Until recently, that would have sounded like a lot of money. But this graphic from The Heritage Foundation puts the number into context.

obamacuts.jpg

Remarks Harvard University economics professor Greg Mankiw:

To put those numbers in perspective, imagine that the head of a household with annual spending of $100,000 called everyone in the family together to deal with a $34,000 budget shortfall. How much would he or she announce that spending had to be cut? By $3 over the course of the year–approximately the cost of one latte at Starbucks. The other $33,997? We can put that on the family credit card and worry about it next year.

Even AP is disgusted by this pathetic attempt to dupe us into thinking we're not being spent into oblivion, observing that $100 million is

1/10,000th of the government's operating budgets for Cabinet agencies, excluding the Iraq and Afghan wars and the stimulus bill.

By the time Obama is done destroying the value of our currency by printing money to finance his demented spending spree, you'll be able to get $100 million for your used car — assuming gasoline is still available.

Miss California Punished for Not Endorsing State-Sanctioned Depravity

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:24 AM

Have you entertained the notion that holy matrimony ought to involve members of opposite sexes? Then you just might be a "dumb bitch," according Perez Hilton, a prominent gatekeeper of our increasingly repugnant pop culture.

[Carrie] Prejean, a blonde student, was one of the favourites to win the Miss USA title at the pageant held on Sunday at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino in Las Vegas and shown live on TV.
Having negotiated earlier rounds of modelling in a swimsuit and evening gown, she was down to the final 15 and had to answer a single question from one of the panel of five judges.
Prejean picked celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who is openly gay and calls himself 'queen of all media'.
Hilton asked her: 'Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?'
Prejean paused for a moment before replying: 'Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage.'
She continued: 'And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.
'No offence to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be - between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.'

There's a price to be paid for daring to voice such outrageous opinions.

Unimpressed to say the least, Hilton promptly described Prejean as a 'dumb bitch' on his blog.
He went on to describe her as having 'half a brain' and said he would have stormed onto the stage and ripped off her tiara if she had won.
There was speculation that the reply had cost her the Miss USA crown, as she was named runner-up with Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton, winning the title.

Let this be a lesson to aspiring beauty contestants: the Perez Hiltons of the world have crawled out of the sewer and taken over the show. But Prejean understands that losing the crown was worth it:

By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I'm glad I stayed true to myself.

Here's what happened:

…and here's Hilton's spin (pardon the foul language; he's a moonbat):

He claims Prejaen was booed for defending marriage. As you may have noticed, she was actually cheered. Thankfully, there are more Carrie Prejeans out there than Perez Hilton et al. would have you know.

On tips from The Knights of the Dumb Table, Burning Hot, and Andrea.

Update:

It gets worse. Perez tells his fellow moonbats at MSNBC what he really meant to say about beauty contestants who don't endorse his militant pervert agenda. They aren't bitches, they're c**ts. Via theblogprof:

Carrie Prejean is a class act. You won't find any like her on the left.

Environazis Whip Up Hatred of the Overweight

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:30 AM

Now that the global warming hoax has caused science to be subsumed by hard left politics, anything is possible. The latest revelation from the liberal government/media/academia establishment: being overweight causes climatic catastrophes:

Scientists warned that the increase in big-eaters means more food production — a major cause of CO2 gas emissions warming the planet.
Overweight people are also more likely to drive, adding to environmental damage.
Dr Phil Edwards, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: "Moving about in a heavy body is like driving in a gas guzzler."
Each fat person is said to be responsible for emitting a tonne more of climate-warming carbon dioxide per year than a thin one.
It means an extra BILLION TONNES of CO2 a year is created, according to World Health Organisation estimates of overweight people.
The scientists say providing extra grub for them to guzzle adds to carbon emissions that heat up the world, melting polar ice caps, raising sea levels and killing rain forests.

Just look what those awful fat people are inflicting on the rest of us:

Oxfam warned yesterday that the number of people hit by climate-related disasters will soar by more than half in the next six years to 375 million.

Every totalitarian movement needs a group it can focus hatred on, to whip the herd into a stampede by igniting its basest instincts. Hitler had Jews, Stalin had "rich peasants." If unhinged environazis become any more powerful, being overweight could turn out to be far more unhealthy than anyone expected.

A Moonbat Confronted With Heresy

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:08 PM

It will be fun watching moonbats' heads explode when Republicans start standing up to the leftist media establishment by pointing out the obvious: global warming is a hoax with absolutely zero validity, which evil people have been exploiting to advance evil objectives. Watch Clinton (and now Obama) toady George Stephanopoulos nearly jump out of his skin when John Boehner comes close to working up the nerve to dismiss the whole phony crisis as a joke:

Too bad Boehner was so quick to retreat behind the "we can't do it alone" line. Republicans can't hem and haw on this. They have to look into the camera and tell the straightforward truth: Global warming is a lie, and those who pretend otherwise are trying to cripple our economy out of a combination of depraved ideology and lust for money and power. Boehner might also have added that Stephanopoulos is a repugnant little weenie.

AP Compares Comrade Obama to Gorbachev

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:11 AM

In the sort of fawning puff piece than now passes for journalism, Obama's toadies at AP have paid him the highest compliment they know how by comparing him to communist dictator Mikhail Gorbachev:

While historic analogies are never perfect, Obama's stark efforts to change the U.S. image abroad are reminiscent of the stunning realignments sought by former Soviet leader Michael Gorbachev.

Comparing Comrade Obama to Gorby may seem a stretch, considering the latter's impressive feat of presiding over the collapse of the Soviet Union. But Chairman Zero has the advantage that he's destroying his own country on purpose.

Slobbering with devotion, AP lists Obama's Gorby-esque accomplishments:

Admitted to Europeans that America deserves at least part of the blame for the world's financial crisis because it did not regulate high-flying and greedy Wall Street gamblers.
Told the Russians he wants to reset relations that fell to Cold War-style levels under his predecessor, George W. Bush.
Asked NATO for more help in the fight in Afghanistan, and, not getting much, did not castigate alliance partners.
Lifted some restrictions on Cuban Americans' travel to their communist homeland and eased rules on sending wages back to families there.
Shook hands with, more than once, and accepted a book from Hugo Chavez, the virulently anti-American leader of oil-rich Venezuela.
Said America's appetite for illegal drugs and its lax control of the flow of guns and cash to Mexico were partly to blame for the drug-lord-inspired violence that is rattling the southern U.S. neighbor.

What a resume. When this nightmare is over, BHO will be well positioned for a career as an international moonbat gadfly — Gorby's current job description.

AP closes this benediction to its messiah by quoting his inspiring duckspeak:

"One of the benefits of my campaign and how I've been trying to operate as president is I don't worry about the politics — I try to figure out what's right in terms of American interests, and on this one I think I'm right."
So thought Gorbachev. But being right is not always politically healthy.

Quick, where'd I put that bucket…

Imagine if the sanctimonious, reflexively treasonous screwballs at AP ran the country. But I'm forgetting: now they effectively do.

The Cutting Edge of Ecohypocrisy

Congrats to "The Edge," as U2 guitarist David Evans likes to call himself. Despite his band's reputation for pious moonbat posturing, he is doing something constructive with his fortune by building a seaside housing development in Malibu. His fellow zillionaire ecoweenies are outraged:

Neighbours in Sierra Canyon … have launched a noisy campaign against the development, which they claim will "permanently scar" the landscape.
Evans, a supposed environmentalist, is accused of wanting to flatten the top of a mountain, put a road through slide-prone areas, and move 70,000 cubic yards of earth for construction of the "McMansions" which will boast views of the world-famous Surfrider Beach.
Critics claim his construction will harm wildlife, cause noise and dust pollution, add to land erosion and run a water pipe through pristine wilderness.

Pristine wilderness? Malibu is just outside the city limits of Los Angeles. The best way to promote wild life in the area would be to lower the price of cocaine.

Besides, "The Edge" says the mansions he's building "will be some of the most environmentally sensitive ever designed in Malibu, or anywhere." I'll bet gold-plated bathrooms have composting toilets.

Bureauweenies on Three Wheels

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:34 AM

Crushing our economy, setting the stage for astronomically high energy prices, and regulating everything down to how much water our toilets can hold isn't enough for environazis. They won't be satisfied until we have submitted to abject humiliation. Here's one leading the way by example:

moonbat-on-tricycle.jpg

From WaPo:

The newest way for Arlington County [Virginia] employees to get around has three wheels, a bell and an orange safety flag. … Arlington officials think the "trike pool" is the way to go.
"I know it sounds nutty,'' said Mary Curtius, a county spokeswoman, but it's part of the eco-friendly county's efforts to lower health-care costs and help the environment.

Guess who paid for these ridiculous toys, which cost $500 apiece (not counting the regulation helmets)? You guessed it: taxpayers. But that's okay, we've got plenty of money.

Ever Fewer Believe in Global Warming Farce, Even as It's Used to Destroy Economy

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:50 AM

Even as our socialist rulers prepare to cripple the economy and intrude in every corner of our lives in the name of the global warming farce, and the mainstream media's relentless barrage of alarmist propaganda continues, only 34% are dim-witted and/or gullible enough to think human activity is making it be too warm out. From Rasmussen:

Just one-out-of-three voters (34%) now believe global warming is caused by human activity, the lowest finding yet in Rasmussen Reports national surveying.

Even among Kool-Aid–guzzling, anti-industry Democrats, only 51% still think manmade global warming is real, even though their tin messiah "has made global warming a priority for his administration." Others have figured out that they're being lied to. Less than half of Americans think Comrade Obama really believes in global warming, despite this:

The Obama administration declared Friday that carbon dioxide and five other industrial emissions threaten the planet. The landmark decision lays the groundwork for federal efforts to cap carbon emissions — at a potential cost of billions of dollars to businesses and government.
The Environmental Protection Agency finding that the emissions endanger "the health and welfare of current and future generations" is "the first formal recognition by the U.S. government of the threats posed by climate change," EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson wrote in a memo to her staff.

This means that anything that generates harmless CO2 — i.e., all human activity — will be subject to regulation by the EPA's environazi bureaucrats, on the grounds that 1 in 3 voters is sufficiently simple-minded to keep swallowing the global warming hoax.

The impact of the EPA finding could be dramatic. Using the Clean Air Act, the EPA could raise fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles, such as by authorizing nationwide adoption of California's rules for greenhouse-gas tailpipe emissions.
That could require auto makers to produce more hybrid and electric vehicles, such as the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid under development by General Motors Corp. The Volt, however, is expected to carry a sticker of about $40,000, or roughly twice the price of a conventional Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

Not to worry, if Government Motors loses money building $40,000 golf carts that only Ed Begley would be caught dead in, the taxpayer can just bail them out.

In electric power, the EPA could force new power plants to include emissions-reduction technology, although it is unclear whether emerging technologies to capture carbon-dioxide emissions would be feasible.
The EPA could order older power plants to be retrofitted, such as with more-efficient boilers, and it could mandate more reliance on wind and other renewable energy if coal-fired power plants can't be made to run more cleanly. That could present technological and infrastructure challenges.

Brownouts and your power bill shooting through the ceiling are only the beginning of what this will mean.

Poverty and totalitarianism are being imposed in the name of a myth that has already outlived itself. They may as well declare martial law and the abolition of property rights on orders from Zeus.

Now the good news: If America survives the current regime with its spirit intact, the backlash will rid us of liberalism for at least a generation.

Letter to CNN

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:56 AM

CNN has always been left-wing, but as it sinks into irrelevance as cable's second-string Democrat Party propaganda outlet, it is truly getting ugly, even by liberal standards. Between Susan Roesgen's pugnacious baiting of Tea Partiers and the absurd Anderson Cooper's vile "teabagging" jokes, the Communist News Network is certainly out of the running as a news source any mature individual would take seriously.

Normal Americans have had enough. As the ratings demonstrate, this eloquent letter to CNN execs Ken Jautz (ken.jautz@cnn.com) and Phil Kent (phil.kent@turner.com) from Donna S speaks for many:

Gentlemen:
I am writing you today in regard to the coverage your news broadcasts have given to the Tax Day Tea Parties this week. I am a mother, wife, worker and taxpayer. My family attended our local Tea Party, along with hundreds of other families. No one we encountered came even close to being as rude and poorly behaved as your reporter in Chicago. As a matter of fact, the large crowd assembled was respectful and kind to one another.
I am not an extremist (although DHS labels me so). I am not pleased, and I will no longer be silent.
Your reporter "covering" the Chicago party, Susan Roesgen, declared the Tea Party to be "not family viewing" after antagonizing protesters and arguing with them, rudely questioning them and then failing to allow them to answer. If any part of her broadcast was not fit for families, it was her behavior. Her research (if she did any at all) into the reasons protesters were attending seems to have left her lacking in any useful information. My children had a better understanding of this movement than Ms. Roesgen. Her behavior was both childish and unprofessional. Is this what makes you "the mosted trusted name in news"?
I went on to become even further disgusted by Anderson Cooper's referral to the protesters as "teabaggers," recycling this lame, crude and juvenile crack and directing it at the hundreds of thousands of peaceful protesters. I have to ask you, as an Executive Vice President and Chairman and CEO of this network, if you felt that this crude sexual innuendo is family viewing? Perhaps you should ask Ms. Roesgen.
CNN owes an apology to its viewers for its complete lack of objectivity and journalistic integrity. Your intentions and your bias were made more than obvious through what you chose to air. Perhaps your coverage of the Chicago Tea Party would have met Ms. Roesgen's requirements for family viewing if you had sent someone other than an ill-informed, belligerent hack to do the reporting. Perhaps Mr. Cooper can earn some more "international respect" by explaining what he meant in using the term "teabagging." Make sure to run it past your self-proclaimed censor, Ms. Roesgen, to ensure it's appropriate to be viewed by families.
It is no wonder Fox News is number one.
Donna S

Unsurprisingly, there's been no response from Jautz or Kent, but don't let that dissuade you from writing letters of your own. Donna also sent the letter to Jan Schakowsky, in hopes of receiving a reasonable definition of the word "despicable."

New Developments at DHS

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:19 AM

Now that the Department of Homeland Security is no longer concerned with the "man-caused disasters" inspired by the Religion of Peace, but with the dangerous ideas spread by the sort of right-wing extremists who turned out for the Tax Day Tea Parties, bureaucrats have signaled this new orientation by redesigning the DHS seal (via America Is an Obamation!):

Liberal Bureaucrat Calls Tea Parties Shameful and Despicable

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:59 AM

Did the massive turnout for the Tea Parties Wednesday make you all the more proud of America, a country that is obviously not going down without a fight? Probably not, if you're a liberal Congresscreep like Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). She released the following official statement:

The "tea parties" being held today by groups of right-wing activists, and fueled by FOX News Channel, are an effort to mislead the public about the Obama economic plan that cuts taxes for 95 percent of Americans and creates 3.5 million jobs. It's despicable that right-wing Republicans would attempt to cheapen a significant, honorable moment of American history with a shameful political stunt. Not a single American household or business will be taxed at a higher rate this year. Made to look like a grassroots uprising, this is an Obama bashing party promoted by corporate interests, as well as Republican lobbyists and politicians.

That about covers the brazenly mendacious left-wing talking points regarding the Tea Parties.

Speaking of "despicable" and "shameful," Teh Resistance Blog points out that Schakowsky has voted to fund gender studies programs and ACORN types with earmarks — i.e., pork money stolen from you and your children. Her husband steals on a smaller scale, having been imprisoned for a check-kiting scheme.

The Founding Fathers devised an ingenious system designed to stave off the verminous Jan Schakowskys of the world. But ultimately, it's up to each generation to keep liberty alive for the next. Schakowsky wouldn't be hissing like a cat with its tail on fire if she didn't suspect we're up to the task.

Obama Demands Christian Symbol Be Covered

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:13 AM

Our Dear Leader B. Hussein did say this is no longer a Christian nation. Apparently, not even major Catholic universities are still Christian:

Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram "IHS" — symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ — because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

A little background:

Georgetown, which is run by the Jesuit order, is one of the most prestigious Catholic institutions of higher education in the United States.
Roman Catholics traditionally use "IHS" as an abbreviation for Jesus' name. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, "St. Ignatius of Loyola adopted the monogram in his seal as general of the Society of Jesus (1541) and thus became the emblem of his institute." The Society of Jesus is the formal name for the Jesuits.

Apparently the educrats running Georgetown now serve a very different lord.

Socialist Speed Bumps

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:45 AM

You might think that potholes should be repaired. You might even think that's what the government is there for. But no: repairing potholes costs taxpayer money that could better be used for bureaucrats' salaries. Besides, potholes serve a purpose: they're like speed bumps, but even more effective, because the bigger they get, the more they slow you down.

Officials in the small English village of Navestock, some 25 miles (40 kilometers) northeast of London, are considering leaving many of the town's potholes unfilled as a way to bedevil the speeders who zip through town at a breakneck pace.
There's another advantage as well: Leaving the potholes alone is a lot cheaper than fixing them.
City councilor Mike Parrish said the plan would help return many of the town's smaller roads to their original status as country lanes.
"It seems potholes are good on our quiet little back roads," he said. "Not fixing those might save us time and cost and also be a traffic calming measure."

No wonder our liberal rulers don't want us driving SUVs. They might enable us to navigate degenerating roads. Ideally, there would be no roads, only light rail tracks leading back and forth between the housing project and the welfare office.

With socialized medicine taking hold, progressive ingenuity will soon be applied to medicine. Government doctors will refuse to operate on lung cancer, because having it makes patients less likely to smoke, thus improving their health.

Does the Second Amendment Say What It Says?

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:22 AM

Even at left-leaning USA Today, if you ask a stupid question, you will sometimes get the obvious truth for an answer. A poll at the liberal fishwrap asks, "Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?" The current results:

I'm proud to report that the Arizona Capitol Tea Party here in Phoenix was a tremendous success, with attendance clearly much higher than the Arizona Repugnant's "more than 5,000" would lead you to believe. Never have I been surrounded by a friendlier, more well-mannered group of people. The contrast to the smelly, antisocial riffraff that populate left-wing demonstrations could not be more striking. La Times Sneers at Tea Parties

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:01 AM

The Los Angeles Times confirms that according to the liberal elite establishment, citizen protests against an overreaching government that is destroying our freedoms and bankrupting our economy is a waste of time. Sneers Marc Cooper:

The Web is buzzing with information about how to throw an anti-Obama Taxpayer Tea Party, something organizers hope will be held today from Santa Monica to South Carolina. But no need to burn up your bandwidth reading complicated instructions. Here's a simpler recipe:
Go to a hobby store. Buy a scale model of a U.N. One-World-Government Black Helicopter and a tube of glue. Toss the model kit. Sniff the entire tube of glue. You're all set for the party.

Writing as he does for La Times, Cooper is not above indulging in lies, claiming that the spontaneous grass roots Tea Parties were secretly arranged by the boogeymen who make liberals hold tight to their teddy bears:

[T]his rash of tea parties is being organized not only by the pseudo-journalists at Fox News (with Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity actively stoking the flames) but also by FreedomWorks, a conservative lobbying outfit headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey.

Absurdly, Cooper drags out the shopworn fib that Comrade Zero will be cutting taxes for "all except the very richest of Americans." Needless to say, the orgy of spending the government is indulging in will require radically higher taxes, whatever Obama's teleprompter has him reciting to the willfully gullible.

If the contempt of the witless moonbat statists who spin for establishment newspapers isn't enough to get you out to the nearest Tea Party, what could be?

101 Freedoms Moonbats Don't Want You to Have

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:24 AM

In what must have been a herculean effort, Teh Resistance Blog has narrowed down the list of freedoms progressives don't want you to have to the top 101. The first 10:

1. The Freedom to keep what you earn and spend it as you please.
2. The Freedom to take risks, and live with the consequences.
3. The Right to participate in the political process by donating money to causes you support (like Proposition 8 in California) without being harassed by radicals.
4. The Freedom to work in a shop without belonging to a union.
5. The Freedom to use a secret ballot when voting to unionize.
6. The Freedom to express conservative opinions on talk radio.
7. The Freedom to express conservative opinions as an invited speaker on a college campus.
8. The Freedom to express conservative opinion on the internet.
9. The Freedom to debate whether disparities in achievement among races and sexes is a product of genetics.
10. The Freedom to question whether Global Warming is really happening.

Uh oh, the list just went to 102. Hurry up a read it, while it's still at a manageable length.

Moonbat Calls for Criminalizing the Absence of Cavity Wall Insulation

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:04 AM

A man's home is not his castle, but the government's plaything, according to environazis like Scotland's Richard Dixon:

Homeowners who do not to take action to improve the energy efficiency of their properties should be treated as criminals, one of the country's most influential environmentalists said last night.
Dr Richard Dixon, director of WWF Scotland, believes tough measures are needed to force people to cut their use of fossil fuels and thinks governments should consider making it a crime for members of the public not to take measures such as installing cavity wall insulation. …
Dr Dixon said: "I think it should be a crime to be wasting energy. It's clearly a moral crime against the climate, and I think we should be having a discussion about whether it should become an actual crime. … We should be getting into the territory where we force people to do this [insulate their homes] … I think climate change is so serious that we need to start cracking down in a serious way. We need to start forcing people to do the right thing — not just encouraging them but actually forcing them."

Notice he used the updated term "climate change," not the "global warming" we've been menaced with for years. This is because people are starting to catch on that it hasn't gotten any warmer since 1998. With "climate change," any and all weather is proof of a cataclysmic crisis requiring draconian government action.

Dixon is a liar, and his "climate change" crisis is a farce. But the government force he worships is a very real threat to us all.

For moonbats like Dixon, government coercion isn't a means but the end.

Texas: The New Quintessential Terror State

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:45 AM

Just as our new government has redefined a terrorist as someone who holds conservative views, it needs to redefine a terror state. Clearly Iran no longer fits the bill. But Texas does.

Governor Rick Perry has betrayed the Lone Star State's terrorist inclinations by objecting to the federal government's noble efforts to save us from the perils of liberty. Listen to his radical rhetoric:

I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state. That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Perry supports the counterprogressive bill HCR 50. From his official website:

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.
It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Using Nappy's new report as a guide, Perry isn't the only Texan to qualify as a terrorist — the typical voter does. American Thinker lists the state's telltale characteristics:

Anti-abortion — check
Pro-Gun — check
Anti-gun control — check
Predominantly Christian — check
Military bases — check
Returning soldiers — check
Against high taxes (no state tax in Texas) — check, check
Anti-illegal immigration — check
Against an overreaching federal government — check
Conservative — check

Progressive Thugs Prevent Tancredo From Speaking

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:53 AM

Imagine the hysterical reports Homeland Security would produce on the menace of right-wing extremists if any of us behaved like liberals. From the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill:

UNC-CH police released pepper spray and threatened to use a Taser on student protesters Tuesday evening when a crowd disrupted a speech by former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo opposing in-state tuition benefits to unauthorized immigrants.
Hundreds of protesters converged on Bingham Hall, shouting profanities and accusations of racism while Tancredo and the student who introduced him tried to speak. …
Before the event, campus security removed two women who delayed Tancredo's speech by stretching a 12-foot banner across the front of the classroom. It read, "No dialogue with hate."
Police escorted the women into the hallway, amid more than 30 protesters who clashed with the officers trying to keep them out of the overcrowded classroom. After police released pepper spray and threatened the crowd with a Taser, the protesters gathered outside Bingham Hall.

Not to worry, moonbats: the officer's use of force is "under investigation" by the department. No doubt heads will roll because even a token attempt was made to restrain these animals.

Inside the classroom, several student protesters screamed curses at Tancredo and Riley Matheson, president of the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Youth for Western Civilization.

"This is the free speech crowd, right?" Tancredo joked.

Progressive students learn this behavior not by visiting the monkey cage at the local zoo, but from their professors:

UNC-CH geography professor Alpha Cravey joined protesters in chanting the names of Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus.

When a window was shattered, and moonbats attacked the stage, Tancredo was the one who was escorted out by the police.

How's this for chilling:

About 200 protesters reconvened outside the building. "We shut him down; no racists in our town," they shouted. "Yes, racists, we will fight, we know where you sleep at night!"

More chilling still: these people now control the government, which they have shown no qualms about using to advance their totalitarian objectives.

Sheriff Joe Lets Fly at Al Sharpton

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:20 AM

When the noxious hustler Al Sharpton — who has gotten people killed with his inflammatory race-baiting — threatens to sic his mobs of lowlife moonbats on major corporations, the cowards who run them reward him with handsome extortion fees. But Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is made of higher-grade material. When Sharpton announced plans to invade Phoenix to stop Sheriff Joe from bucking the system by enforcing emigration law, he received a letter that quickly put him in his place (PDF). Highlights via Free Republic:

I have read about you with much interest since learning of the protest you plan to lead against me in Maricopa County in June as a way to force my resignation or removal from office.
Your public proclamation leads me to the conclusion: not only do you not understand Arizona; you also do not understand democracy. As the elected Sheriff who, so far has been elected to five consecutive four-year terms, I answer to the four million residents of Maricopa County. I do not answer to the whims of the media, or locally and nationally elected officials who want open borders and who have their own agendas. Nor do I answer to a publicity hound outside interloper who has demonstrated no interest in looking for the truth before making loud uninformed noises.

"Interloper" is what Sharpton calls Jews trying to create jobs in black neighborhoods by running businesses — before his followers kill them.

While your public outcries are colorful, there are several instances where you have inserted yourself into other people's affairs without knowing any of the facts. Poor judgment has caused you plenty of trouble in the past and promises to do so again. Most earnest people want to learn by their mistakes. You seem to glory in repeating them.
I would like to help you avoid further embarrassment by assisting in your understanding of the illegal immigration problem here in my county. When and if you do make the trip here, I invite you to call me to talk about these false allegations. …
Before you bring your circus to town and take to our streets by marching against this Sheriff, let's get you fully informed for a change. Congressman John Conyers did not have the courtesy to respond to my invitation to visit with me personally. I hope you will consider my invitation. Surely, a man like yourself — a reverend — who famously preaches from the church pulpit understands the infinite wisdom of these words: You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. Let's talk about the truth, Reverend. I await your response.

My guess is the Valley of the Sun won't be getting a visit from Reverend Al after all. Direct challenges tend to send bullies back under their rocks.

With a few more Joe Arpaios, people like this wouldn't be running the country.

Big Government Now Going After Pets

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:40 AM

Proving that there is nothing (other than subservience and parasitism) that the government won't try to regulate out of existence, bureaucrats are now going after the practice of owning pets. While it waits for the gargantuan spending it has set in motion to sink the economy, Congress busies itself by once again reaching into your personal life with H.R. 669 — aka The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act — a bill that could make many common pets illegal.

The idea is to ban animals and even plants that are not native to the USA. To save space, bureaucrats are listing what species are allowed, rather than all those that will be forbidden.

I'm guessing Comrade Obama's Portuguese water dog will get an exception, but your tropical fish, exotic bird, boa, or even hamster might not be so lucky.

James Hackett of Anadarko Lets Fly at Demented Energy Policy

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:13 AM

Not all oil execs are corrupt and/or cowardly enough to play along with the war on economic freedom and prosperity being waged behind the smokescreen of the global warming farce.

Washington's energy and environment policy risks plunging the US into an economic tailspin that could turn it into "the world's cleanest third world country", one of the US oil industry's most successful chief executives has warned.
James Hackett, chairman and chief executive of Anadarko, one of the US's largest independent oil and gas companies, said in an interview: "The histrionic and maniacal focus on carbon dioxide is intellectually repugnant to me."
Mr Hackett's assessment echoes the private views of many oilmen less willing to be quite so direct and reveals the fissure developing between the industry and Washington. His views contrast with those of cautious, politically and environmentally correct European oil executives [at] Royal Dutch Shell.
Unlike executives at many European companies, Mr Hackett opposes a cap and trade system, such as the one included in legislation recently introduced by Democrats in the House of Representatives. He said it was an indirect tax on individuals that would be as open to manipulation as the European model.
As with many industry veterans and proponents of improved energy security, he warns government officials and environmental advocates to stop suggesting that solar and wind could reduce the US's need for petrol.
Instead, he said focusing on solar and wind would work against Washington's goal of reducing the US's dependence on foreign oil as it would displace sources of energy produced domestically, such as uranium, natural gas and coal. Somewhat predictably, opening more US land to drilling would be his solution.

This is predictable not because Hackett is an oil exec, but because he isn't an idiot. Anyone with an IQ above Obama's base can understand that the more bureaucrats force us to rely on inefficient technology like wind, solar, and pixie dust, the more we will pay for energy — at a time when the economy can hardly afford the additional drag.

Free Cameras for Phony Photo Op

Sebelius Lied About Payoffs From Late-Term Abortionist

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:26 AM

There may be more to Kathleen Sebelius's rabid support for abortion than a dread of the patter of little feet. The tax cheat Abortion Queen was paid more for her fanatical stance than she's been willing to admit:

President Barack Obama's health secretary nominee, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, got nearly three times as much political money from an abortion doctor as she told senators.
In response to questions from the Senate Finance Committee, Sebelius wrote that she received $12,450 between 1994 and 2001 from one of the nation's few late-term abortion providers, Dr. George Tiller.
But records reviewed by The Associated Press show that Tiller gave at least $23,000 more from 2000-2002 to a political action committee that Sebelius established while state insurance commissioner to raise money for fellow Democrats.

According to Health and Human Services, this wasn't a lie, but an "oversight."

DHS to Target Conservatives

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:10 AM

Now that the War on Terror is over (even if terror's war on us has only just begun), what to do with the Department of Homeland Security? The answer: use it to suppress political opposition. From a DHS report entitled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," via Ace of Spades HQ:

Rightwing extremists are harnessing this historical election as a recruitment tool. Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use. Rightwing extremists are increasingly galvanized by these concerns and leverage them as drivers for recruitment. From the 2008 election timeframe to the present, rightwing extremists have capitalized on related racial and political prejudices in expanded propaganda campaigns, thereby reaching out to a wider audience of potential sympathizers.

A terrorist is no longer a Muslim fanatic who wants to fly a plane into a skyscraper. Now it's someone who objects to his country being eaten alive by socialist looters. Kook Communes With Polar Bears

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:38 AM

bearly-alive.jpg

Warning: moonbattery can be extremely hazardous to your health, as demonstrated by a German known only as Sandy K, who may actually have believed that polar bears are cuddly love bundles oppressed by the evils of economic freedom. She apparently decided to comfort the put-upon creatures at the Berlin Zoo, where she climbed over a thorny hedge and a concrete wall to jump into their pool.

Onlookers saw her smile as she swam towards the bear seemingly unaware of the danger.
But her apparent joy turned to terror when the animal, which can weigh up to 680kg and kill a beluga WHALE, bore down on her and ripped into her flesh.
Zoo workers desperately tried to distract the bear — and three others circling menacingly nearby — by hurling sticks, food and balls into the pool.
But the animal continued its attack on the unnamed woman, from Brandenburg, biting her hands and legs. Eventually a rope was thrown woman and she was pulled to safety.

Not to worry, the identity of the bear that nearly killed her is being protected, lest he suffer negative publicity:

Zoo curator Heiner Kloser said: "Polar bears are predators and they do not care what they eat. It was terrible but we do not wish to identify the bear involved."

At least we know it wasn't Cute Knut.

Unfortunately the incident is unlikely to convince moonbats that polar bears are not fluffy victims, but vicious beasts that hunt humans for food. It produced an LA Times headline reading, "Do German Polar Bears Need Protection From Obsessed Fans?" You be the judge of who needs protection:

Lawsuit Will Force Westchester County to Build More Slums

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:31 AM

Organizing widespread squatting isn't the Left's only tactic for turning the entire country into a slum. Its favorite tool, given its thorough dominance of the legal profession, is the lawsuit. For example, in suburban New York, moonbats are suing to force local government to construct more slums at taxpayer expense.

Westchester County officials are gearing up for battle in a court case over whether they've done enough to desegregate largely white communities.
And by all accounts, the fight could be long and expensive.
The county recently doubled what it expects to pay defense lawyers Epstein, Becker and Green in a federal housing discrimination lawsuit filed by the Anti-Discrimination Center of Metro New York, a nonprofit housing group that could be awarded a share of up to $150 million in damages if it wins. …
The Anti-Discrimination Center is accusing the county of failing to provide affordable housing in its more affluent suburbs and failing to reduce segregation in municipalities such as its larger cities, despite taking $52 million in federal housing aid from 2000 through 2006 and doling it out to communities.

Once again we see that accepting federal money is the equivalent of selling your soul to the Devil. Proclaims "civil rights" attorney Randolph McLaughlin:

The issue is whether affordable housing is a reality, and it's obviously not. Affordable housing has not been a reality in Westchester County. If you take government money, you have to do what you said you're going to do.

When moonbats yelp about affordable housing, what they actually mean is there are too many white people. Turning nice towns into slums is the bleeding heart version of ethnic cleansing.

Paving the way for this trial, Judge Denise L. Cote of U.S. District Court in Manhattan in February ruled in a summary judgment that the county failed to analyze race as an impediment to affordable housing and misrepresented its integration efforts.

After the entire county looks like the hellhole Mount Vernon, moonbats will continue marching north. One day soon the South Bronx will reach all the way to the Saint Lawrence River.

Tea Parties Terrify Moonbats

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:09 AM

There's a reason the mainstream media has barely mentioned the growing Tea Party phenomenon: it scares moonbats witless. A stain spreads across Wyatt Shev's trousers as he whimpers in terror:

April 15th. Write that date down; people — it could very well mark the beginning of the end. With the notoriously conservative Tea Party movement gaining steam, is it time to take the 'United' out of 'United States'? … On April 15th, hundreds of thousands of PO'd red meat eatin' Americans will converge on the streets to protest the Obama administration's policies and platforms. … In reality, their 'movement' is incredibly divisive, a mindset that stands in sharp contrast to Obama's calls for bipartisanship in this time of great national need. Their arguments have the potential to divide the country along titanic lines not seen since the bloody days of the Civil War.
Think I'm exaggerating here? The Tea Party movement is an incredibly dangerous concept, fuelled by the usual gushes of sycophantic support from the conservative news media (here's looking at you, Fox). … If the country continues down this dark path, a second Civil War might not just be a cool idea for a sci-fi novel anymore. … I hope the protesters fail in their mission to bring their message to a national audience. It's a message of fear, prejudice and, quite frankly, hate. … The Tea Party movement represents a real danger to the tenets of democracy Americans have embraced for centuries.

On the contrary, peaceful protests against the deliberate bankrupting of our economy and the imposition of socialism are the quintessence of the tenets of democracy Americans have embraced for centuries.

On Tax Day, the Tea Parties will be too big for the media to ignore, so it will turn to Plan B: demonizing anyone who takes part in them. Shev won't be the last to stick a shiv into patriots who care enough to take a stand against the leftists destroying our country.

Obama's Brother Denied Entry to UK for Sexual Assault

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:43 AM

Here's one you won't see much of in the mainstream media:

American president Barack Obama's half brother was refused a visa to enter the UK after being accused of an attempted sex attack on a young girl in Berkshire.
The News of the World can reveal that Kenya-based Samson Obama tried to get into Britain on his way to Washington for his family's big day, the historic inauguration in January.
But eagle-eyed immigration officials at East Midlands Airport, using the latest biometric tests, discovered he was linked to an incident here last November. The hi-tech database revealed that Samson — who manages a mobile phone shop just outside Nairobi — was the same man arrested by British police after he approached a group of young girls, including a 13 year-old, and allegedly tried to sexually assault one of them.

Overwhelming the Concept of Property

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:23 AM

According to the Cloward-Piven strategy, society can be destroyed by overwhelming the system, causing the economy to collapse and paving the way for communism. The strategy explains the Democrats' eagerness to run up debts too huge to be repaid, meanwhile vastly expanding the welfare rolls and other long-term entitlement obligations. Another example of overloading is the direct assault on property rights by community activists who facilitate squatting — with the maudlin support of the leftist media.

Michael Stoops, executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, said about a dozen advocacy groups around the country were actively moving homeless people into vacant homes — some working in secret, others, like Take Back the Land, operating openly.
In addition to squatting, some advocacy groups have organized civil disobedience actions in which borrowers or renters refuse to leave homes after foreclosure. …
In Minnesota, a group called the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign recently moved families into 13 empty homes; in Philadelphia, the Kensington Welfare Rights Union maintains seven "human rights houses" shared by 13 families. Cheri Honkala, who is the national organizer for the Minnesota group and was homeless herself once, likened the group's work to "a modern-day underground railroad," and said squatters could last up to a year in a house before eviction.

A modern-day underground railroad. You see, not being provided with a house that someone else paid for is the equivalent of slavery.

Crows Bill Faith of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio:

We're seeing sheriffs' departments who are reluctant to move fast on foreclosures or evictions. They're up to their eyeballs in this stuff. Everyone's overwhelmed.

That's the idea, of course. As community activists spread the word that there is no need to pay for a house when you can just seize one for free, moonbattery will eventually overwhelm everything, allowing the entire country to degenerate into a Third-World communist slum and fulfilling the dreams of the liberal press.

Unsurprisingly, Obama's ACORN friends have also been involved in seizing houses.

Moonbats Target Top Army Chaplain

While some of us celebrate Easter, others choose to fester in the miasmic darkness known as moonbattery. Mikey Weinstein of the absurdly misnamed Military Religious Freedom Foundation has been pushing for a court martial of Major General Douglas Carver, the Army chief of chaplains who stands accused of calling for a voluntary fast for other military chaplains and for allegedly endorsing an effort to expose Iraqis to Christianity by making the Bible available in Arabic. The fast happened to fall on a Jewish feast day, and Arabic Bibles are considered an attempt to convert non-Christians — a big no-no, according to moonbats.

Muslim Murderess Oppressed

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:45 AM

The horrific oppression of Muslims continues.

The police booking photo of alleged child killer Nour Hadid released Tuesday is an "insult against our religion," says Hadid's husband, Alaeddin.
Orland Park police detectives say the 26-year-old Muslim woman was treated as any other suspect in a murder probe would be, and they did not intend to humiliate her when they photographed her Sunday without her headscarf and wearing only a skimpy top.

Here we have a textbook of a September 10 mentality. Hadid is not "any other suspect." She is a Muslim, and therefore above the racist, sexist, homophobic procedures of Christian white male capitalist exploiters. Didn't the media just choose our president largely on the basis of his Muslim background? As for Hadid's "crime," the politically correct will recognize this as a xenophobic refusal to withhold judgment from quaint multicultural practices:

Nour Hadid is accused of beating her 2-year-old niece Bhia Hadid to death over four days at her home on the 9000 block of West 140th Street. The child had 55 separate bruises and was beaten "from head to toe," according to prosecutors, who say Hadid confessed.

Clearly a trifle compared with making a Religion-of-Peacenik take off her headscarf for her mug shot. But the xenophobes will get their comeuppance:

Alaeddin Hadid — who insists his wife is innocent — said Orland Park police are "really going to be in big trouble" for releasing the woman's booking photo to the news media after she was charged with first-degree murder.

He's suing, of course. Unlike beating a 2-year-old to death, being photographed without a headscarf is serious business.

"It is against our religion; we do not do this in our culture," Alaeddin said.

His own involvement in the child's death is still under investigation.

Plagued for Selling Puppy

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:18 AM

Linda Brown has felt the wrath of the sanctimonious militants who have appointed themselves guardians of animals' welfare. For her dealings with the guy in charge of providing comic relief for the Obamination Administration, the dog breeder has been subjected to public scorn and official harassment. Her crime: selling Plugs Biden a German shepherd pup, when he should have adopted a mutt from the pound.

PETA seized the moment as an opportunity to blame the killing of shelter animals on people who buy from breeders. The organization's TV commercial, "Buy One, Get One Killed" ran in Delaware after the Biden puppy story made headlines.
Dog wardens from the state showed up at Brown's Wolf Den kennel, repeatedly, for inspections.
"I was cited for a piece of kibble on the floor and five strands of dog hair. They took a picture of that, they walked around, snapped pictures and don't tell you why," Brown told the newspaper.
She was found "not guilty" for each citation, but hiring a lawyer for the court hearings has cost her $4,000 so far in legal fees.

Both Brown and Biden himself have reportedly received death threats over the puppy purchase. Meanwhile, PETA kills 95% of the adoptable pets that suffer the misfortune of coming under its care. Being moonbats, they have to blame someone.

Tsunami-Free Zone

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:47 AM

Even if the 2004 tsunami left you terrified of giant waves, there's one coastal town where you can always feel safe. The wise bureauweenies in charge of Pismo Beach, California have banned tsunamis:

With beachside tourist sites around the world suffering from reduced business after the tsunami of December 26, 2004 in Indonesia, a California town is fighting back. Pointing to theories that tsunamis might actually be the result of additional stresses on the earth from global warming, the Pismo Beach city council has passed a local ordinance that will make the popular sea-side community a "tsunami-free" zone.

No doubt it will be just as effective as gun-free zones like Virginia Tech.

Pismo Beach lawyers explain that the ordinance paves the way for future litigation if indeed a connection is made between tsunamis and manmade global warming in a court of law.
The city council hopes that the ordinance will also help keep coastal property values high since property owners will have the additional peace of mind that, if their property is damaged by a tsunami, they will have legal recourse to recover damages. …
Already, neighboring communities are considering similar ordinances. For instance, Malibu is not only considering a tsunami ban, but is also discussing a possible ban on maximum daytime temperatures greater than 100 deg.F.

Okay, this is parody — I think. In light of what's going on in the District of Criminals, it's hard to be sure.

Global Warming Looters' Bonanza

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:04 AM

Every cloud has a silver lining for someone. If a terrible plague were to wipe out the human race, rats and cockroaches would be well situated to take over the planet. Similarly, trial lawyers stand to make a fortune on the global warming insanity neo-Marxists are using to finish off the economy. As always, a large portion of the loot will be kicked back to the Democrat Party, to ensure that the system remains dysfunctionally corrupt.

Self-proclaimed victims of global warming or those who "expect to suffer" from it — from beachfront property owners to asthmatics — for the first time would be able to sue the federal government or private businesses over greenhouse gas emissions under a little-noticed provision slipped into the House climate bill. …
Under the House bill, if a judge rules against the government, new rules would have to be drafted to alleviate the problems associated with climate change. If a judge rules against a company, the company would have to purchase additional "carbon emission allowances" through a cap-and-trade program that is to be created by Congress.
The measure sets grounds for anyone "who has suffered, or reasonably expects to suffer, a harm attributable, in whole or in part," to government inaction to file a "citizen suit." The term "harm" is broadly defined as "any effect of air pollution (including climate change), currently occurring or at risk of occurring."

"Victims" will be entitled to collect up to $1.5 million apiece. Since global warming is a fantasy, anything can be blamed on it. Too bad for lawyers they didn't think of looting the public treasury over the misdeeds of demons during the Middle Ages.

The "green jobs" we've been promised are likely to consist of mowing the expansive lawns of trial lawyers, who as parasites are among the few that actually benefit from moonbattery.

Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.
He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.

Now that's a pizza with a presidential-sized carbon footprint. But not to worry, Obama's cap and trade scheme will make it up to the planet by jacking energy prices through the ceiling so that we can't afford to run our AC.

Bay Area School Cracks Down on Private Prayer

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:50 AM

A lawsuit brought by Kandy Kyriacou and Ojoma Omaga against the College of Alameda is moving forward, despite the college's attempts to have it thrown out. They're suing to be allowed out of the doghouse after Kyriacou was caught praying. Here's what happened:

The case was prompted by an incident just before Christmas in 2007 in which the students went to deliver a Christmas gift to a professor.
"Kandy found the instructor alone in her shared office," according to Pacific Justice. "When the instructor indicated she was ill, Kandy offered to pray for her. The instructor bowed her head, and Kandy began to pray — until she was interrupted by another faculty member, Derek Piazza, who walked in and said, 'You can't be doing that in here!' Kandy quickly left and rejoined her friend and fellow student, Ojoma Omaga. Piazza followed Kandy outside and repeated his rebuke."
While the students reported they were surprised by the teacher's aggressive behavior, they were stunned when, days later, they both got letters notifying them of the college's retroactive "intent to suspend" plan.
The letters, however, provided no facts on which to make such a threat, listing only vague references to "disruptive or insulting behavior" and "willful disobedience."
School officials informed them during administrative hearings that Kyriacou was being disciplined for praying for the sick teacher. Omaga was not part of the prayer, and her offense apparently was that she was with Kyriacou a short time later.
The lawsuit was filed when the college refused to rescind the letters, leaving the students in peril of suspension or expulsion for any other offense, such as praying on campus. The decision from U.S. District Judge Susan Illston turned back college attempts to deny the students a hearing on their complaint.

At least we don't have to worry about Christians getting fed to lions again. Liberal bureaucrats would no doubt consider it hurtful to the lions.

Captain Phillips Escapes, Is Recaptured

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:34 AM

Richard Phillips, the heroic captain of the Maersk Alabama who surrendered himself to Somali pirates to safeguard his crew, has been held for the last few days in a lifeboat surrounded by US Navy vessels. Last night he escaped. But the pirates caught him again. Apparently, hostage negotiators didn't have authority to just blow the lifeboat out of the water once Phillips wasn't in it.

Not to worry though, the Obamination Administration is on top of situation. Any day now, it will figure out which side it's on. In the meantime…

The Obama administration was careful not to give the crisis too much prominence, with delicate negotiations under way to try to secure the captain's release. […Chairman Zero] declined to comment on the pirate situation for the second day in a row on Thursday.

Anyone who remembers how dangerous and humiliating it was to be an American with Jimmy Carter in office is experiencing a powerful sense of déjà vu.

Christian University Offers Special Housing for Homosexuals

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:05 AM

If the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah ever befalls America, not even a certain "Christian" university will be spared:

Eight students have signed up for Texas Christian University's designated on-campus housing for gay students and their supporters, in what may be the only such college housing in North Texas.

The DiversCity Q community, catering to homosexuals, transvestites, and their fellow travelers, is scheduled to open this fall.

"It's a chance for students to be part of a unique experience," said David Cooper, TCU associate director for residential life.

Well, not totally unique. San Francisco bathhouses provide a similar learning environment.

The Bible firmly and repeatedly condemns homosexual depravity, and for good reason, as the AIDS epidemic has illustrated. But educrats serve a higher authority: political correctness.

American Spirit Sighted in Hawaii

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:44 AM

Despite all the Hope and Change, America isn't dead yet. While bureaucrats wait to squander their cut of the stimulus boondoggle like dogs wagging their tails beneath the dining room table, private citizens attend to the work that needs to get done:

Their livelihood was being threatened, and they were tired of waiting for government help, so business owners and residents on Hawaii's Kauai island pulled together and completed a $4 million repair job to a state park — for free.
Polihale State Park has been closed since severe flooding destroyed an access road to the park and damaged facilities in December.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources had estimated that the damage would cost $4 million to fix, money the agency doesn't have, according to a news release from department Chairwoman Laura Thielen.
"It would not have been open this summer, and it probably wouldn't be open next summer," said Bruce Pleas, a local surfer who helped organize the volunteers. "They said it would probably take two years. And with the way they are cutting funds, we felt like they'd never get the money to fix it."
And if the repairs weren't made, some business owners faced the possibility of having to shut down.
Ivan Slack, co-owner of Napali Kayak, said his company relies solely on revenue from kayak tours and needs the state park to be open to operate. The company jumped in and donated resources because it knew that without the repairs, Napali Kayak would be in financial trouble.
"If the park is not open, it would be extreme for us, to say the least," he said. "Bankruptcy would be imminent. How many years can you be expected to continue operating, owning 15-passenger vans, $2 million in insurance and a staff? For us, it was crucial, and our survival was dependent on it. That park is the key to the sheer survival of the business."
So Slack, other business owners and residents made the decision not to sit on their hands and wait for state money that many expected would never come. Instead, they pulled together machinery and manpower and hit the ground running March 23.
And after only eight days, all of the repairs were done, Pleas said. It was a shockingly quick fix to a problem that may have taken much longer if they waited for state money to funnel in.
"We can wait around for the state or federal government to make this move, or we can go out and do our part," Slack said. "Just like everyone's sitting around waiting for a stimulus check, we were waiting for this but decided we couldn't wait anymore."

Meanwhile, our rulers scheme to shower fortunes upon mice (thanks to Nancy Pelousy) and a frivolous levitated rail service between Disneyland and Vegas (thanks to Harry Greed). Once again we see that whereas government excels at wallowing in corruption, free citizens allocate resources constructively.

Columbus Day Becomes "Fall Weekend"

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:38 AM

Brown University has renamed Columbus Day as "Fall Weekend," on the grounds that honoring the guy held responsible for the spread of Western Civilization to the Western Hemisphere would be "inconsistent with Brown's values."

Via Pajamas Media, this excerpt from The Killing of History gives an indication of the culture our forefathers displaced, to the horror of liberal educrats:

Human sacrifice was practiced by the Aztecs of Mexico, the Mayas of Yucatan, the Incas of Peru, the Tupinambas and the Caytes of Brazil, the natives of Guyana and the Pawnee and Huron tribes of North America. In societies that had developed urban settlements, such as those of the Aztecs and Mayas, victims were usually taken to a central temple and lain across an altar where priests would cut out their hearts and offer them to the gods. In the less technologically developed societies of Guyana and Brazil, victims would either be battered to death in the open and then dismembered, or tied up and burned to death over a fire. The early Europeans were shocked to find that sacrifice was often accompanied by cannibalism. In Tenochtitlan, the remains of sacrificed victims were taken from the temples and distributed among the populace, who would cook the flesh in a stew. In Guyana and Brazil, limbs of victims were skewered and roasted over a spit before being consumed. The Caytes of the Brazilian coast ate the crew of every wrecked Portuguese vessel they found. The American anthropologist Harry Turney-High writes: “At one meal they ate the first Bishop of Bahia, to Canons, the Procurator of the Royal Portuguese Treasury, two pregnant women, and several children.”

The sin of Columbus was that his discovery led to these vibrant multicultural festivities giving way to the ultimate crime against political correctness, the USA.

Christian Symbols Banned From Chapel

Posted by Dave Blount at 11:19 AM

The war on Christianity marches forward in Australia:

Worshippers at one of the state's largest hospital chapels have been ordered to get rid of crucifixes and Bibles and pull down religious pictures and symbols for fear of offending other religions.
The decision by Royal North Shore Hospital has outraged patients and their families, many of whom have turned to the chapel for comfort in their darkest hours.

Apparently not even Muslims like the idea. Maybe they're beginning to realize that after our liberal rulers consolidate control, the alliance of convenience will be over, and Islam will be next on the chopping block. Thou shalt have no other gods before Government.

Will Soda Tax Go National?

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:43 AM

Despite the failure of New York's soda tax, efforts are underway to use socialized healthcare to justify a punitive tax on soda:

Taxes have been shown to reduce smoking and are just as likely to help adults and children choose healthier drinks, which are now usually more expensive than sodas and other sweetened beverages, the experts wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine.
A tax of one penny per fluid ounce (30 ml) on drinks such as soda, sports drinks and sugar-sweetened fruit juice and iced tea could "reduce consumption of sugared beverages by more than 10 percent," Kelly Brownell of Yale University in Connecticut and New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Frieden wrote. …
"The contribution of unhealthful diets to healthcare costs is already high and is increasing — an estimated $79 billion is spent annually for overweight and obesity alone — and approximately half of these costs are paid by Medicare and Medicaid, at taxpayers' expense," they wrote.

Again we see that government involvement in healthcare will lead inexorably to totalitarianism, as one product after another is targeted for allegedly being bad for us. After cigarettes are gone and soda follows, bureaucrats will turn to meat, alcohol, candy, pasta, et cetera, and not stop until we're reduced to subsisting on bean curd and gruel. Then they'll begin to mandate government supervised exercise regimens.

Government funding of research also has its hazards. Shouldn't the New England Journal of Medicine be focusing on meaningful scientific developments, rather than serving as a soapbox for petty tyrants like New York's Health Commissioner? What the global warming farce did to climatology, ever-metastasizing government will do to science in general, until Trofim Lysenko is brought back from the grave to teach official biology.

Dems Want Obama in Power for Life

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:13 AM

What if Obama is able to use cheating ACORN thugs, a fudged census, and tens of millions of illegals newly granted welfare benefits and voting rights to secure a permanent electoral majority? At least we still have the 22nd Amendment, which guards against dictatorship by limiting how long an individual can hold the presidency.

But then, Venezuela had a similar rule. Hugo Chavez recently tossed it out. Already, attempts are underway to do the same here. Rep Jose Serrano (D-NY) has introduced H.J. Resolution 5 to officially repeal the 22nd Amendment.

At least Democrats must fear the public a little, or they wouldn't still be going at this incrementally, instead of just repealing the entire document.

Congresscreeps Praise Communist Dictator

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:42 AM

Obama's brief political experience consisted of serving as the most left wing member of the Senate. What sort of leadership does the left wing of the legislative branch think America should have? This offers an appalling indication:

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro was "very engaging, very energetic," U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, a California Democrat, said following a congressional delegation's meeting with the ailing revolutionary.
The delegation that traveled to Cuba featured six members of the Congressional Black Caucus and Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif., and they returned to Washington late Tuesday afternoon and urged the United States government to begin steps to alter its relationship with Cuba.

Former Black Panther and current Congresskook Bobby Rush (D-IL) is delighted that a guy who urged the Soviet Union to launch a nuclear strike against America will now be considered our government's ally:

This is the dawning of a new day. Fifty years of foolishness is over.

Unlike the awful Rush Limbaugh, our new friend Fidel wants Comrade Obama to succeed.

Rep. Laura Richardson, D-Calif., was one of three lawmakers who requested and met with Fidel Castro. She described him as alert and said the former Cuban dictator "looked directly into our eyes, quite aware of what was happening. He said to us, 'how can we help President Obama?'"

Now why would a fiend sworn to the destruction of the USA and the freedom it stands for want to help an American president?

As for the human rights abuses that characterize the brutal Cuban slave state:

"We didn't talk about it much," said Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio. "You don't go into someone's house and insult them."

Her name really is Fudge, by the way.

America is in the process of being dismantled by its enemies.

Reparations for Homosexuals

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:50 AM

In the Detroit Free Press, Jacob Appel crows that homosexuals are about to be granted even their most outrageous demands; so it's time to demand more:

Victory may require five or maybe 20 years. Yet I have no doubt that "don't ask, don't tell" and same-sex adoption bans will be as unspeakable and inexplicable to my grandchildren as counting a slave as three-fifths of a human being.
What is not so clear to me is whether homosexuals will be adequately compensated for their mistreatment. So while I recognize that other battles remain, I think the time has arrived to place economic reparations for gay and lesbian Americans on the political agenda.

Appel wants to stick it to the straights, just like the allies did to Germany after WWI, thus creating Hitler; he compares privileged American homosexuals to Holocaust survivors:

Reparations serve two distinct purposes. One is monetary restitution — such as the compensation that Bismarck exacted from France after the Franco-Prussian War or that the Allies demanded of Weimar Germany following World War I. Payments to Jewish Holocaust survivors and victims of the Japanese-American internment recognize the specific economic losses suffered by these individuals, but also the intangible harms done by uprooting and imprisoning innocent people.

Actually, it's only in progressive paradises like Cuba that being a homosexual gets you thrown in jail. As for economic losses, there haven't been any, so Appel is reduced to bleating about obstacles to the homosexual dream of turning the military into a San Francisco bathhouse.

Normally liberals don't like it when they think the government has been legislating morality. But it's okay if the "morality" is morally depraved:

A second purpose of reparations is to express moral opprobrium. Paying gays and lesbians a sum even far less than their economic losses might help atone for the dreams destroyed by criminal sodomy convictions and the suffering endured by those who lived in the shadows […even though] all the funds in the national treasury could not make full amends. Yet the admission of collective culpability behind such payments might offer a first step toward reconciliation.

Even Appel, who teaches bioethics at NYU, can see a downside:

The only danger in such a proposal is the possibility that a minority of unscrupulous straight people might claim homosexuality in an effort to defraud taxpayers.

We can't pretend to be black, so how else are we supposed to get ahead in a world that punishes achievement? But Appel dismisses his own concern, because according to his ideology, a nonpervert would not have "enough confidence in his own sexuality to impersonate a homosexual." Also, "the government could establish an effective system to screen for straight impostors." Then he starts indulging in vague fantasies of subjecting normal people to humiliating "techniques" — once again illustrating that homosexual militants are driven by malevolent spite.

Soon they'll be compensated for having to "live in the shadows."

Believe Obama Regime, Not Your Lying Eyes

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:12 AM

It was bad enough to have to watch the punk who has been installed in the White House bowing obsequiously to the ruler of Saudi Arabia, land of most of the 9/11 hijackers. At least the humiliation was mitigated by the fact that Comrade Obama is a ghetto-dwelling community activist with very little political experience, and has no clue how to behave. But there's no excuse for this: now his underlings have compounded the insult by lying about something we could all see with our own eyes.

The Washington Times called it a "shocking display of fealty to a foreign potentate." A Saudi-backed Arabic paper considered it a show of "respect and appreciation of the personality of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz," and possibly evidence that BHO is still a Muslim. But an Obama lackey — speaking in anonymity in keeping with the administration's policy of "transparency" — impudently claims that Chairman Zero didn't bow at all:

It wasn't a bow. He grasped his hand with two hands, and he's taller than King Abdullah.

If we could believe Obama is qualified to be president, why couldn't we believe the video below is a mass hallucination?

Displaying the ineptitude that has characterized this farce of an administration, the White House has now all but forced its enablers in the mainstream media to report on the fiasco, which otherwise would have died for lack of oxygen.

Porn Yes, Prayer No at U of Maryland

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:11 AM

The University of Maryland took a heroic stand for the First Amendment Monday night by showing students 30 minutes of the XXX porno movie Pirates II in a campus classroom, in spite of angry state representatives who know of more appropriate uses for public funds.

Atop the ramparts, sophomore Xenia Strunnikova beat her breast and boldly proclaimed:

Just because it's a state school, state legislators shouldn't be telling us what we can and cannot watch.

In other University of Maryland news:

There will be no more prayer at the campus-wide commencement ceremony after the University Senate voted to eliminate the practice yesterday.
The senate approved a proposal that eliminates a prayer invocation at the university's annual commencement ceremony in a 32-14 vote after a lengthy debate that touched on the controversial issue of the separation of church and state.

"Separation of church and state" is a reference to the same First Amendment that evidently requires state taxpayers to fund porno movies. As always with progressives, principles are merely tools to accomplish whatever political correctness dictates. Our "Living Constitution" is amazingly flexible in liberal hands.

Militant Homosexual Harry Knox to Join Faith-Based Council

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:19 AM

W's faith-based initiatives program may not have been the best of his ideas, especially in light of the people running it now that the federal leviathan has been commandeered by the lunatic left. Recently appointed to Chairman Zero's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships is one Harry Knox of the Human Rights Campaign, a militant homosexual activist group.

Knox has demonstrated his qualifications for the job by denouncing the Pope and many Catholic bishops as "discredited leaders" because they have chosen to favor scripture over the homosexual social engineering agenda. He called the Knights of Columbus "foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression" for supporting California's Proposition 8, which bans the blasphemous travesty of homosexual "marriage." He also accused the Pope of lying for recommending abstinence over condoms in stopping the spread of AIDS and of "doing a great deal more harm than good."

In a statement in response to his appointment, Knox declared:

The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is eager to help the Administration achieve its goals … And, of course, we will support the President in living up to his promise that government has no place in funding bigotry against any group of people.

Bigotry against Catholics is okay though, because Catholics are bigots. But I'm sure Knox has plenty of nice things to say about Islam.

The Moonbat Messiah's faith-based advisory council appears to be dedicated to the liberal objective of destroying Christianity and Judaism by subverting them from within. Other members include Rev. Jim Wallis, the Rev. Otis Moss Jr., and Rabbi David N. Saperstein.

Wallis — hailed by the New York Slimes as a "leader of the Religious Left" — has announced that "more Christians will come to view the world through Marxist eyes." Marx famously denounced religion as the opiate of the masses; Christians are invariably persecuted under Marxist regimes.

Moss replaced Obama's 20-year spiritual mentor Jeremiah "G-D America" Wright at the temple of anti-Americanism and black supremacist ideology known as the Trinity United Church.

Of America's earliest settlement, Moss Jr. said, "When we think of Jamestown, we must think of the triple holocaust that came out of Jamestown," referring to the "African holocaust, the Native American holocaust, that African-American holocaust." And, in reference to the war on terror, he said in October 2004, "You have heard that it was said 'God bless America.' But I say unto you, pray for all of the Osama bin Ladens and the Saddam Huesseins," the Weekly Standard reported.

Saperstein must be related to the satanic doctor in Rosemary's Baby. Here he is denouncing a ban on the grisly form of infanticide known as partial birth abortion:

Women are capable of making sound medical and moral decisions without government interference.

However, Saperstein favors government interference when it comes to imposing special privileges based on sexual orientation and gender identity — i.e., for perverts and freakazoids. He also insists on amnesty for illegal aliens, more government involvement in healthcare, facilitating suing employers for long-ago "pay discrimination," deliberately crippling the economy in the name of the global warming farce, et cetera, ad nauseam.

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League is quite right to want the entire faith-based initiative closed down on the grounds it has become a "sham." As with most other areas of life, government needs to stay out of faith and keep to the handful of tasks that justify its existence, like interrogating terrorists and defending the border.

Barney Fwank Hissy Fit

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:22 AM

In case you thought Democrats would accept any responsibility whatsoever for what they've done to the economy, watch the spittle spray when a student dares ask Barney Fwank on friendly turf at Harvard,

How much responsibility, if any, do you have for the financial crisis?

The answer to the question is: plenty.

Judicial Watch comments on recently obtained documents that make clear to what extent Fwank and friends brought this on us on behalf of their Fanny/Freddy benefactors:

Overall, these documents show that Congress was made aware of the massive problems at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over the last six years. Yet liberals, led by Congressman Barney Frank, repeatedly blocked attempts to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
For example, during a hearing on September 10, 2003, before the House Committee on Financial Services considering a Bush administration proposal to further regulate Fannie and Freddie, Rep. Frank stated: "I want to begin by saying that I am glad to consider the legislation, but I do not think we are facing any kind of a crisis. That is, in my view, the two government sponsored enterprises we are talking about here, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not in a crisis. We have recently had an accounting problem with Freddie Mac that has led to people being dismissed, as appears to be appropriate. I do not think at this point there is a problem with a threat to the Treasury."
"These new documents show that liberals in Congress were reckless when it came to the massive taxpayer liabilities related to Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "Government officials at FHFA repeatedly sounded the alarm regarding fraud, abuse and corruption at these two GSEs while liberals in Congress, led by Barney Frank, blocked attempts to address the situation in a meaningful way."

The Banking Queen was literally in bed with Fannie/Freddie. Not only did he line up with other Dems at the campaign trough like a prize hogging glutting himself, he has had homosexual relations with Fannie Mae executive Herb Moses.

Chairman Zero Skips Normandy, Afraid of Offending Germans

If we had been cursed with our current leadership during the rise of totalitarianism in Europe, would we have stood up to the Nazis? Here's the answer: Obama nixed a stop at Normandy during his recent European trip, lest he offend Germans.

If only he would start worrying about offending normal Americans who cling neurotically to our Bibles and constitutional rights.

Why would Germans be offended anyway? As Thomas Lifson points out, their government has thoroughly repudiated Nazism; maybe BHO was actually concerned that he would offend the Nazis' Muslim allies.

Heroes died at Normandy so that America could have the luxury of growing soft enough to allow someone like Obama in the White House. But not all foreign threats to our liberty are in the past, any more than all threats to our liberty are foreign.

Tony Norman of the Pittsburgh Gazette let himself get carried away, offering a disturbing glimpse into the liberal mentality. After ranting for paragraphs about racism and gun nuts, Norman sneers of those of us who agree with the Founding Fathers that the right to bear arms is critical (emphasis added):

They insist that the laws aren't liberal enough and that the government imposes too many restrictions on who can own or buy a gun. Most gun laws are totalitarian and anti-American, as far as they're concerned. Ordinary citizens should have the right to own AK-47s no matter their politics, criminal record or mental infirmity.

No matter our politics. Maybe in the future, we'll be allowed to own guns if we swear an oath of fealty to Chairman Zero.

As even nitwits like Norman are aware, this is not a public safety issue. If it were, they would be going after our right to drive, which has taken many times more lives. Like literally everything else on the liberal agenda, the ongoing attack on the Second Amendment is about increasing the political power of our rulers.

Turkey Shoot

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:13 AM

You would think Chairman Zero would feel at home in a country called Turkey. Yet even there, he flounders.

Here we see the Moonbat Messiah declaring to a Muslim nation that 82% Christian America does not consider itself a Christian nation:

Speak for yourself, B. Hussein.

Here he is flinching when a ceremonial shot is fired:

…or maybe it was the Star Spangled Banner that made him flinch. At least he's putting his hand on his heart now.

When Change doesn't mean deliberately ruining the economy or revoking our liberties, it means politics as usual — as Obama proved by delicately avoiding the G word, despite having promised on the campaign trail to make an issue of the Turkish genocide that cost 1.5 million Armenians their lives:

While President Ronald Reagan issued a statement recognizing genocide, other presidents have made such a promise while campaigning only to abandon it once in office.

Once again we see that BO is no Ronald Reagan.

Karma Catches a Journalist

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:11 AM

Most liberals were restrained in their immediate reaction to the terrorist atrocities of 9/11, awkwardly attempting to lump Christians in with Muslims, muttering incoherently about Western imperialism, or squawking absurdly, "Retaliate against who?" But not a moonbat named Beverly, who would have been ready to campaign for Obama on September 12.

The September 11 terror attacks were a watershed event in the life of a Canadian journalist named Beverly Giesebrecht.
Soon after Al Qaeda terrorists killed 3,000 people in the U.S., Giesebrecht converted to Islam, adopted a new name — Khadija Abdul Qahaar — and spent the next two years studying the Koran in Egypt.
She created a pro-Jihadi Web site, Jihad Unspun, and she developed a network of contacts, contributors and translators, some of whom introduced her to the Taliban in Pakistan.

But though the lunatics are running the asylum now, there is still such a thing as natural justice.

And then last November, the Taliban, the group she had befriended, kidnapped her while she was chasing a story in the Bannu region of northern Pakistan. In a video released after her capture, Qahaar says she's being held by the Taliban, though it's not clear exactly who is holding her. Officials have not provided clarification, saying only that there are many criminal gangs in the region who call themselves the Taliban.
Now, four and a half months later, 11th-hour negotiations continue in efforts to save Qahaar's life and secure her release. Her captors have demanded $375,000 in ransom money by the end of March, and they have threatened to kill her if their demand isn't met.

Surprise: lying down with rattlesnakes can get you bit. If only voters understood this, we would have much better leadership.

Now her only hope is the Western armies she betrayed for the sake of Islamomoonbattery. I'd hate to be the soldier who has to risk his life to rescue this woman from her own vileness and stupidity.

Gwyneth Paltrow Denounces Shampoo

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:06 AM

Gwyneth Paltrow — the Tinseltown princess who announced she was boycotting her own country because "the British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans" — has announced that shampoo gives children cancer.

Avers the bubble-headed blonde and aspiring biochemist Paltrow:

A couple of years ago I was asked to give a quote for a book concerning environmental toxins and their effects on our children. While reading up on the subject, I was seized with fear about what the research said.
Foetuses, infants and toddlers are basically unable to metabolize toxins the way that adults are, and we are constantly filling our environments with chemicals that may or may not be safe.
The research is troubling; the incidence of diseases in children such as asthma, cancer and autism have shot up exponentially and many children we all know and love have been diagnosed with developmental issues like ADHD [Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder].

Evidently Paltrow has convinced herself that these evils can be inflicted by shampoo.

Scientists dismiss Paltrow's concerns as "loopy," but bureauweenies won't — unless Proctor & Gamble wants to pony up some extra generous donations to the Democrat Party.

Her concern for the health of fetuses is especially amusing, considering that she grotesquely chose Mother's Day to raise cash for the highly profitable, taxpayer-subsidized abortion mill Planned Parenthood.

Religion-of-Peaceniks v. Alcohol and Property Rights

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:31 AM

One of the great things about multiculturalism is that it offers us a taste of what it would be like to live in faraway parts of the world. For example, a restaurant owner in Tennessee is finding out what it would be like to live under a theocratic dictatorship like they have in Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Trevor Hill wants to open a restaurant in a formerly blighted building in Fort Sanders. Unfortunately, there is a mosque on a nearby street. Like most restaurants that want to stay in business, Hill's will serve alcohol, which is on the long list of things Muslims want banned. Since a ban won't happen (yet), they want to pull the plug on Hill's restaurant, so that his $1 million investment may swirl down the drain and the building go back to derelict status.

Complains Hill:

I've taken a building that's been a total eyesore … really gone out on a limb and taken a risk for the benefit of the Fort Sanders community. It's not fair for me to be discriminated against any more than it is for them to be discriminated against.

But of course, discrimination only works one way. The concept is a bogus tool used by liberals to advance the interests of their allies at the expense of normal Americans.

Hill's fate rests in the hands of bureaucrats, who have the power to sink the restaurant by denying him a liquor license. Being ever at the mercy of politically correct paper-pushers is not a fit condition for Americans.

GM's New Board Drives Foreign Cars

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:37 AM

Given that the Democrat Party has now assumed Soviet-style control of the auto industry, maybe party apparatchiks should familiarize themselves with the industry — by driving its products.

Oops, it seems that many on President Obama's team, including those seeking to save the American automobile industry, do not actually drive vehicles from the American automobile industry.
According to a study by the Detroit News and a White House parking lot survey by Politico.com, neither do Obama's White House staffers.
Before leaving for Europe (where the Secret Service had pre-placed Obama's new armored Cadillac), the president dished out rhetorical tough love to U.S. automakers.
He canned the chief executive of General Motors (the United Auto Workers president remained, not receiving bailout money), gave the giant carmaker 60 days to reorganize, and directed Chrysler to merge with Italy's Fiat in 30 days to remain an American company. (Let it go, it makes sense in Washington.)
The Politico survey of cars parked next to the White House found only five U.S. brand cars out of 23 — a Dodge, two Fords, a Jeep and a Cadillac. The News found that Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, who didn't have the money to pay more than $20,000 in back taxes until they became a confirmation problem, did acquire a 2008 Acura.
Lawrence Summers, head of the president's National Economic Council, drives a Mazda. Budget Director Peter Orszag drives a Honda and a Volvo. Economic advisor Austan Goolsbee drives a Toyota. VP Joe Biden's economic advisor Jared Bernstein prefers a Honda.

At least Chairman Zero rides in an armored Caddie. No doubt when shoveling $billions of our money into the UAW's gaping maw and putting Nancy Pelousy in charge of design fails to turn Government Motors into a profitable enterprise, tariffs will be employed to ensure that only bureauweenies and trial lawyers can afford to drive foreign cars.

Obama to Be Handed Control of the Internet

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:10 AM

The frenzied grab for power that has characterized each day of the catastrophic Obama Administration continues. The groundwork is now being laid by his toadies in Congress for Chairman Zero to seize control of the Internet:

Should President Obama have the power to shut down domestic Internet traffic during a state of emergency?
Senators John Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) think so. On Wednesday they introduced a bill to establish the Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor — an arm of the executive branch that would have vast power to monitor and control Internet traffic to protect against threats to critical cyber infrastructure.

Once again we see that the meaningless R must be removed from after the name of liberal apparatchik Olympia Snowjob. She is a Democrat for all intents and purposes, and allowing her to pose as a Republican only provides propaganda cover to the enemy by creating an illusion of bipartisanship.

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any "critical" information network "in the interest of national security." The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.
The bill does not only add to the power of the president. It also grants the Secretary of Commerce "access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access." This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws.

It was nice knowing you, Fourth Amendment. This after liberals screamed like stuck pigs because the Bush Administration authorized listening to overseas calls made to al Qaeda operatives. W's motive was to make us safe. Not so with the Dems.

Jennifer Granick, civil liberties director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, says that granting such power to the Commerce secretary could actually cause networks to be less safe. When one person can access all information on a network, "it makes it more vulnerable to intruders," Granick says. "You've basically established a path for the bad guys to skip down."

Our current rulers' mad lunge for totalitarian powers is so lacking in subtlety that you have to wonder if they expect to have to run for reelection. Given the rhetoric they spewed during the War on Terror, it's surprising they aren't worried that the vast authorities they keep claiming on behalf of the federal government won't be abused by future Republican administrations. They also seem unconcerned that Americans' traditional fondness for liberty will cause us to rebel at the ballot box.

Human Rights Lawyer Calls Suicide "A Marvelous Possibility"

Posted by Dave Blount at 12:48 PM

The liberal culture of death marches forward in Britain, where some hope to institute physician-assisted suicide for the healthy.

Ludwig Minelli, whose [Swiss] organisation [Dignitas] has supervised the deaths of 100 Britons, said suicide was not just for those already dying but 'a marvellous possibility given to a human being'.
The human rights lawyer said there were no limits on who might be assisted to die, as long as they had the mental capacity to make the choice. … But, despite his claim that mental capacity was a key factor in allowing death at Dignitas, Mr Minelli said the organisation had assisted the death of those with mental health problems.

Minelli apparently wants to set up shop in Britain, where he promises to lighten the burden on the socialized healthcare system by killing people.

The statist media was happy to give Minelli airtime, without presenting a point of view critical of assisted suicide. Beebsters must figure Minelli's approach will help reduce the British population by half on behalf of the polar bears.

The next step will be involuntary assisted suicide, which will have to take place on a massive scale to achieve progressive goals. It has happened before, and if current political trends are any indication, will happen again in our lifetimes.

Gordon Brown is a hard man to take seriously, but that doesn't mean he can't be scary. While his contemptuous colleague Chairman Zero curries favor with the French by projecting his hallmark arrogance on America, Brown has been outlining his dream — and free people's nightmare: a "New World Order" that will include "the biggest stimulus we have ever seen" (i.e., the most massive pile of money ever flagrantly wasted in one spree), a commitment to "help the world's poorest" by stealing our money and showering it upon Third World dictators, and a "green recovery" (i.e., using taxes and regulations to cause further economic havoc by radically raising energy prices). It's all part of a "progressive era of international cooperation" and "fairer global society" — in short, world socialist government.

Brown also wants a "Global New Deal," which would effectively put the entire planet on American and British welfare.

In one of history's crueler ironies, the Anglosphere is left to rely on the Germans and French to restrain Statist authoritarians with megalomaniacal ambitions.

Even the moonbats at the Guardian are starting to realize that Chairman Zero is a catastrophic farce. John Crace reports the Moonbat Messiah's response when Nick Robinson of the BBC asked who is to blame for the financial crisis:

I think what is also true is that … pause [I WANT NICK ROBINSON TO DISAPPEAR] … here in Great Britain … pause [SH*T, GORDY'S THE HOST, DON'T LAND HIM IN IT] … here in continental Europe … pause [DAMN IT, BLAME EVERYONE.] … around the world. We were seeing the same mismatch between the regulatory regimes that were in place and er … pause [I'VE LOST MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT AGAIN] … the highly integrated, er, global capital markets that have emerged … pause [I'M REALLY WINGING IT NOW]. So at this point, I'm less interested in … pause [YOU] … identifying blame than fixing the problem. I think we've taken some very aggressive steps in the United States to do so, not just responding to the immediate crisis, ensuring banks are adequately capitalised, er, dealing with the enormous, er … pause [WHY DIDN'T I QUIT WHILE I WAS AHEAD?] … drop-off in demand and contraction that has taken place. More importantly, for the long term, making sure that we've got a set of, er, er, regulations that are up to the task, er, and that includes, er, a number that will be discussed at this summit. I think there's a lot of convergence between all the parties involved about the need, for example, to focus not on the legal form that a particular financial product takes or the institution it emerges from, but rather what's the risk involved, what's the function of this product and how do we regulate that adequately, much more effective coordination, er, between countries so we can, er, anticipate the risks that are involved there. Dealing with the, er, problem of derivatives markets, making sure we have set up systems, er, that can reduce some of the risks there. So, I actually think … pause [FANTASTIC. I'VE LOST EVERYONE, INCLUDING MYSELF] … there's enormous consensus that has emerged in terms of what we need to do now and, er … pause [I'M OUTTA HERE. TIME FOR THE USUAL CLOSING BOLLOCKS] … I'm a great believer in looking forwards than looking backwards.

Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award Granted to Traitor

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:12 AM

In what could be the ultimate insult to our military, outgoing Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award — the highest civilian honor — to the treasonous John "Abscam Jack" Murtha, who kept his name in the news for several years by doing everything in his power to bring about American defeat in Iraq, and by making false allegations of war crimes against our troops.

Vets are understandably enraged. From a petition by Vets for Freedom, calling on the Navy to rescind the award:

John Murtha deserves no such award. He has routinely and deliberately undermined the United States military, slandered servicemen serving in combat, and caused irreparable damage to our international reputation. While serving as a Representative from Pennsylvania, Murtha called Marines from 3d Battalion, 1st Marines "cold blooded killers" who "murdered innocent civilians." Before an investigation into the Haditha incident was even conducted, Murtha went on numerous television news programs and announced that the Marines "went into houses and killed women and children." He said, "There's no question in my mind about what happened here. There was no gunfire, they killed four people in a taxi … 24 people were killed." When asked specifically if he claimed that innocent civilians were intentionally executed by Marines, he said, "That's exactly what happened." Not content to slander those Marines directly involved, he went on to claim that if these Marines were not punished, "other Marines would say well I'll do the same thing." Murtha then continued to use this incident to lobby for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, citing it as evidence that our military was incapable of winning the war.
Eight Marines were originally charged. As of March 17th, 2009 all charges were dropped against six Marines, one was found not guilty on all counts in courts martial. The prosecution has delayed the court martial of the final defendant indefinitely. The original allegations of a massacre and the statements of Congressman Murtha have been thoroughly discredited. Despite the facts, John Murtha refuses to apologize to those he slandered.

If military honors are to mean anything, they cannot be granted to vermin who in wiser times would be tried for sedition. You would almost think our kakistocracy is deliberately attempting to destroy morale.

Tea Bag Terrifies Democrat

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:05 AM

Those who say Tea Party protests won't do any good are reminded that the mere sight of a tea bag is enough to send kleptocrat bureauweenies into paroxysms of terror. For example:

Taxpayer tea parties have rattled some politicians in Washington, as thousands have gathered in cities across America to object to President Obama's spending policies. But no politician was rattled as severely as the staff of Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) was yesterday.
After opening an envelope containing a teabag and marked "Tea Protest" in the Congresswoman's Manchester office, Shea-Porter's staff called Capitol Police and city police and firefighters.
The authorities instructed Shea-Porter's staff to seek "refuge" as they performed field tests on the substance contained in the tea bag. It turned out to be green tea.

Abortionists as Saints

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:39 AM

If liberals don't succeed in totally suppressing Christianity, they can destroy it from within by subverting it. The Episcopal Divinity School has announced the appointment of a new president and dean, Katherine Hancock Ragsdale. Via Moleching It, here's a sample of Ms. Ragsdale's theological musings:

And when a woman becomes pregnant within a loving, supportive, respectful relationship; has every option open to her; decides she does not wish to bear a child; and has access to a safe, affordable abortion — there is not a tragedy in sight — only blessing. The ability to enjoy God's good gift of sexuality without compromising one's education, life's work, or ability to put to use God's gifts and call is simply blessing.
These are the two things I want you, please, to remember — abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Let me hear you say it: abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done.
I want to thank all of you who protect this blessing — who do this work every day: the health care providers, doctors, nurses, technicians, receptionists, who put your lives on the line to care for others (you are heroes — in my eyes, you are saints); the escorts and the activists; the lobbyists and the clinic defenders; all of you. Dawn Johnsen: Yet Another Depraved Obama Nominee

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:28 AM

It's getting hard to keep up with all the unhinged radicals Chairman Zero has been appointing to high positions. One example among many is the nomination of Dawn Johnsen — who hates human life enough to equate pregnancy with slavery — to the Justice Department's Office of Legal Council.

"She's compared pregnancy to slavery and described it as involuntary servitude," Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, says. "She's compared women to no more than a fetal container." …
He cited her arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court that, "The woman is constantly aware for nine months that her body is not wholly her own: the state has conscripted her body for its own ends. Thus, abortion restrictions, 'reduce pregnant women to no more than fetal containers.'"

Anyone expressing this level of hostility toward human babies would be a fit subject for an exorcism. But as an enthusiast of abortion, she has a friend in the Moonbat Messiah:

In Obama's short tenure in office, he's already reversed the long-standing Mexico City Policy so that U.S. taxpayer dollars now can be used for abortion overseas.
He's also worked on a plan to rescind the right of doctors and physicians to not provide abortion services if it conflicts with their own religious beliefs. In addition, he has promised to work on a plan to overturn all abortion restrictions nationwide.

What do you expect of a guy who, as a State Senator, aggressively pushed to kill babies who survive botched abortions?

Obama Regime Pushes Political Censorship

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:54 AM

When bad laws are applied by bad people, bad results follow. For an example of an awful law applied by evil people, refer to the Obamination Administration exploiting McCain-Feingold to quash our right of political dissent. If Obamunists succeed in this latest push for totalitarian power, the First Amendment will have been effectively repealed:

On Mar. 24, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Citizens United v. FEC [Federal Election Committee], the latest installment in an ongoing series of challenges to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA), better known as McCain-Feingold. This case has far-reaching implications for the future of campaign activities, and draws an important line between the right of citizens to speak out and the power of government to imprison them if they do.
The group Citizens United produced a documentary critical of Hillary Clinton during her failed presidential campaign. … But when the group sought to market the movie through Video On Demand, the FEC blocked it. The FEC cited BCRA, which makes it a federal felony to fund any TV or radio broadcast that names a candidate for federal office in the thirty days prior to a primary election or sixty days prior to a general election, called the "blackout" periods. …
Far more important than the specific facts in this case was the enormous scope of power that the Obama Administration was claiming under BCRA, an array so broad that the justices balked at the government's answers to their questions. The Obama Administration claimed that BCRA allows the federal government to ban a 600-page book if it mentions a candidate's name only once, a 90-minute movie if it mentions a candidate's name once, or even a toy action figure of a candidate. If the organization uses a single dime of its general funds to produce, promote or distribute any such materials during the "blackout" periods, it becomes a federal crime. …
Selling a banned movie, book or even toy action figure is a felony under this law, punishable by five years in federal prison.

Needless to say…

Such laws have a chilling effect on political speech that violates the core purpose of the First Amendment. That such a law could ever be enacted in this country is itself a fact that should raise concerns.

That's putting it mildly. Whatever happened to the Left's righteous advocacy of free speech? But I'm forgetting, it only applies to frivolous speech like pornography. When it comes to banning books and movies deemed unsupportive of Chairman Zero's agenda, the liberal establishment will dutifully line up in support.

At least one person is happy to see socialists take over GM and send its CEO off the plank as a scapegoat. Rabidly anticapitalist and anti-American propagandist Michael Moore is ecstatic that we have degenerated to the point that government bureauweenies have taken upon themselves the authority to fire the heads of major corporations.

I simply can't believe it. This stunning, unprecedented action has left me speechless for the past two days. I keep saying, "Did Obama really fire the chairman of General Motors? The wealthiest and most powerful corporation of the 20th century? Can he do that?"
This bold move has sent the heads of corporate America spinning and spewing pea soup. Obama has issued this edict: The government of, by, and for the people is in charge here, not big business.

In short, the economic freedom that made this country so wealthy and strong is over; we now live in a socialist dictatorship. Or at least, Obamunists like Moore are pleased to think so. Even the stock market's predictable response delighted the fifth-column moviemaker, who smugly observed,

Senator Bob Corker said it should send a chill through all Americans who believe in free enterprise. The stock market plunged as the masters of the universe asked themselves, "Am I next?"

To fulfill Moore's ultimate fantasies, bumbling government thugs would have to herd guys like Rick Wagoner into cattle cars and ship them to camps in Alaska.

In the middle of an interview with Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) on Tuesday, a bird above Moore relieved itself on the filmmaker's shoulder.

Obama's Goofy Gift to the Queen

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:19 AM

So the reports weren't an April Fools joke after all. Chairman Zero actually followed up his gift to the nearly blind Gordon Brown of a cheesy DVD collection that won't even play on British machines by giving the Queen of England a second iPod. Rumors that it came preloaded with "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols could not be confirmed. But we do know that it featured the grotesquely narcissistic BO's own speeches.

You would think that one of the 12 teleprompters he brought along would have some vague clue about conducting foreign relations, or at least that the country is officially called the United Kingdom, not England.

As is often the case with the Moonbat Messiah, we're left to wonder if we're seeing malice or incompetence. Britain did more than any other country to end slavery, but evidently B. Hussein resents it for colonizing Kenya. Whether he means to send the message, "I don't like America's oldest and closest ally," it has once again been received loud and clear.

The same moonbats who raved that electing this Marxist clown would "unite us" also promised he would restore our supposedly frayed relations with our traditional allies. Gordon Brown may be happy to accept abused lapdog status, but the relatively conservative leadership that is likely to replace him may show more dignity. France and Germany, which currently enjoy much better leadership than either the US or UK, have already made it clear they will not be following The One over the socialist cliff into insolvency.

The Truth About the Left's Favorite Polar Bear Photo

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:34 PM

Next time the media paves the front of every paper with a picture of animals allegedly in distress due to the nonexistent global warming crisis, bear this in mind:

As always, the media leaves you wondering: Are they idiots? Or do they think we're idiots?

A Quick Intro to Chris Dodd's Scandals

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:24 PM

Imagine how fast a Republican this corrupt would be shown the door:

Yet Dodd continues to enjoy his lucrative career as a prominent Democrat Senator, who appallingly continues to chair the increasingly powerful Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. It's as if Democrats think there won't be any more elections.

Top US Bureauweenie: There Are Too Many Humans

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:20 AM

As noted earlier, a prominent bureauweenie in the British government wants to cut that country's population by half. Not to be outdone, Nina Fedoroff, the science and technology advisor to Secretary of State Shrillary, apparently wants to do something similar to the whole planet.

She told a receptive BBC that the human population has exceeded the "limits of sustainability," piously declaring:

There are probably already too many people on the planet.

Civilization has to learn to take its enemies at their word regarding their objectives. Progressive ideas have led to genocide before, most infamously in Germany, Russia, China, and Cambodia. Unless we find some way to restrain the cancer known as liberalism, they will again.

Google Founder Wipes Out Neighborhood to Build Eco-Mansion

Posted by Dave Blount at 10:03 AM

Larry Page, cofounder of aggressively leftist Google, has bought up most of a neighborhood in a historic section of Palo Alto so he can tear down the tasteful old homes and put up a new mega-mansion. Since he doesn't have kids, he only needs four bedrooms and 5,900 square feet (not including the basement). But don't worry, the castle will "minimize the impact on the environment."

For example, the home's exterior will include zinc cladding and plenty of windows. The property has about 60 trees; most will be retained, while others that are not healthy will be replaced with native species that don't consume a lot of water.
Page also is applying for "Green Point Certification," the home industry's rating system for energy efficiency. The home will have a roof garden with solar panels.

No doubt the polar bears will appreciate it, even if his neighbors don't.

Washington Housewives Reduced to Smuggling Detergent

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:39 AM

The main purpose of our federal system is that it creates a free market for liberty. If one state goes off the rails into authoritarianism, people can cross the border to another. For example, Washington residents who want clean dishes can go to Idaho to buy effective detergent, which is forbidden by the petty tyrant environazis who run their own state.

The quest for squeaky-clean dishes has turned some law-abiding people in Spokane into dishwater-detergent smugglers. They are bringing Cascade or Electrasol in from out of state because the eco-friendly varieties required under Washington state law don't work as well. Spokane County became the launch pad last July for the nation's strictest ban on dishwasher detergent made with phosphates, a measure aimed at reducing water pollution. The ban will be expanded statewide in July 2010, the same time similar laws take effect in several other states.
But it's not easy to get sparkling dishes when you go green.
Many people were shocked to find that products like Seventh Generation, Ecover and Trader Joe's left their dishes encrusted with food, smeared with grease and too gross to use without rewashing them by hand. … As a result, there has been a quiet rush of Spokane-area shoppers heading east on Interstate 90 into Idaho in search of old-school suds.

This should surprise no one:

Among other states that have banned or are banning phosphates in dishwasher detergent are Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts and New York. A bill on Capitol Hill would impose a nationwide ban.

At least when this sort of envirofascism is imposed at the federal level, the government will become motivated to guard the border. Bureaucrats won't want Americans sneaking off to a relatively free country like Mexico to bring in dishwashing detergent that actually works.

Police Arrest Goat

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:20 AM

No, Barney Fwank isn't going to be subjected to justice. It's a tale of crime and punishment from the hole down which Obama plans to pour untold fortunes of our money:

Police in Nigeria are holding a goat on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.
Vigilantes took the black and white beast to the police saying it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest after trying to steal a Mazda 323.

As our schools teach, all cultures are equal, except ours, which is inferior, so please withhold your judgment about police departments that incarcerate farm animals.

In Iowa, 500 Villagers Thrown Out of the Castle

Posted by Dave Blount at 9:05 AM

Another step in our march toward socialism: House Speaker Pat Murphy (D) ordered police to throw over 500 people out of the Iowa House when they wouldn't stop complaining about taxes.

"This is the most atrocious thing I've seen in the history of the 15 years I've been a lobbyist. Pat Murphy has acted like a jack-booted Nazi," said Ed Failor Jr., president of Iowans for Tax Relief, a conservative taxpayers' rights group from Muscatine with 50,000 members.
Failor Jr. was escorted from the House chambers after Murphy overheard him speak with the media.

Once the hoi polloi had been shown the door, liberal bureauweenies could continue with the People's Business — or rather, giving the people the business with their latest proposal:

The proposal, House File 807 and Senate Study Bill 1317, would end a practice known as federal deductibility. That means Iowans could no longer subtract what they pay in federal income taxes from their income when figuring their state taxes.
Ending federal deductibility without changing anything else would mean Iowans would pay an estimated $595 million more in taxes.

Supposedly, some people would pay less under the Dems' new plan. But then, Chairman Zero promised a tax cut for 95% of Americans, then ran up a deficit in just a couple of months that will require monstrous tax increases if we aren't going to default. It's bad enough to be looted without being taken for fools.

Nine Deadbeats Run up $3 Million in Emergency Room Bills

Posted by Dave Blount at 8:35 AM

The size of ambulance-chaser John Edwards's mansion is one clue as to why healthcare is so expensive. Here's another clue:

In the past six years, eight people from Austin and one from Luling racked up 2,678 emergency room visits in Central Texas, costing hospitals, taxpayers and others $3 million, according to a report from a nonprofit made up of hospitals and other providers that care for the uninsured and low-income Central Texans. …
The report that mentioned the nine high-frequency patients didn't include reasons for all of those ER visits and didn't identify the patients because of privacy laws. But [Ann] Kitchen, a former state legislator from Austin, gave a sketch: All nine speak English; three are homeless… Seven have a mental health diagnosis and eight have a drug abuse diagnosis. Kitchen said she did not know their citizenship status.

If they are American citizens, that would make them exceptions to the rule. Illegal aliens are infamous for using emergency rooms as free clinics, providing the rest of us with long waits for real emergencies and driving whole hospitals out of business.

Not to worry: socialized Obamacare will cure the problem of people exploiting free (to deadbeats) medical care by making sure there is no medical care available for anyone before spending months on a waiting list.

Soon we'll apply the same principles to supermarkets that we do to hospitals. First, food will be free for anyone who shows up and claims to be hungry. When the stores start to go under, the State will nationalize the grocery business, and we can spend our days standing in line for black potatoes, as in the Soviet Union, which America is following into failed state status under the socialist regime of Hope and Change.

Kathleen Sebelius: Yet Another Tax Cheat Nominee

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:57 AM

Obama's latest choice to head Health and Human Services will now be known as something other than the Abortion Queen; she's also a tax cheat, in the proud tradition of many other Obama nominees, including Tom Daschle, Ron Kirk, Nancy Killefer, and of course Timothy Geithner, who oversees the IRS.

Kathleen Sebelius recently corrected three years of tax returns and paid more than $7,000 in back taxes after finding "unintentional errors" — the latest tax troubles for an Obama administration nominee. … There was no comment from the White House.

These "unintential errors" can get us little people in deep trouble. But that's because it's our role to pay taxes. Our socialist rulers' role is to spend them.

As its inability to find nominees who don't cheat on their taxes makes clear, Arrogance and Incompetence have replaced Hope and Change as the bywords of the Obamination administration.

10 Terms Not to Use Around Muslims

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:32 AM

The Christian Science Monitor helpfully lists 10 terms you should not use around Religion-of-Peaceniks, lest you offend them, causing them to melt into helpless puddles of tears or fly airliners into office buildings:

1. "The Clash of Civilizations"
2. "Secular"
3. "Assimilation"
4. "Reformation"
5. "Jihadi"
6. "Moderate"
7. "Interfaith"
8. "Freedom"
9. "Religious Freedom"
10. "Tolerance"

Since "freedom" made the list twice, maybe we should just delete it from the Newspeak dictionary. That way we won't have to be reminded of what we sacrificed for moonbattery.

Unhinged Leftist Harold Koh Nominated for State Department Legal Advisor

Posted by Dave Blount at 7:12 AM

Not even the Moonbat Messiah can destroy America single-handedly. But with his power to make appointments likely to be rubber-stamped by Nazi Pelousy's loony-left Congress, he won't have to. Harold Koh gives an idea of what kind of Supreme Court justices we have to look forward to.

Obama nominated Koh on March 23 to become the State Department's legal adviser — an appointment that, if confirmed by the Senate, will give Koh far-reaching influence over the extent to which international norms affect U.S. law. …
Koh, like Obama, is a strong opponent of the Iraq war and the use of harsh interrogation techniques that some consider torture. He has fiercely criticized former President George W. Bush for invading Iraq in 2003 and has accused the Bush administration of trying to "block public release of more Abu Ghraib type pictures."

An example of the rhetoric Foe spewed during wartime, from an article in a law journal:

We should resist the claim that a War on Terror permits the commander in chief's power to be expanded into a wanton power to act as torturer in chief.

Another gem from his published oeuvre:

What role can transnational legal process play in affecting the behavior of several nations whose disobedience with international law has attracted global attention after September 11th — most prominently, North Korea, Iraq and our own country, the United States of America? For shorthand purposes, I will call these countries "the axis of disobedience."

Faux clearly loathes America, which he accuses of failing to "obey global norms." The "transnational legal process" he wants us to submit to would allow corrupt foreign dictators to overrule our laws. He would have us subjected not only to the antidemocratic and anti-American ICC, but also shariah, although he now denies the latter.

As John Fonte of the Hudson Institute observes,

Under Koh's plan, the Constitution would become secondary and international law would take precedence regardless of what Americans said about the matter.

Most alarming of all, Koh has allegedly "received more than 30 awards for his human rights work." The term "human rights" has degenerated into a euphemism for left-wing extremism.

Even at the State Department, which is infamous for siding with any country against the one it is supposed to represent, Koh's nomination is pushing the envelope over the edge. No one can credibly deny that America is now governed by its enemies.
