Specter Is Toast
Presumably in return for under the table favors that may never come to light, RINO Arlen Specter stabbed his country in the back by voting in favor of the Intergenerational Theft Act of 2009, aka the "stimulus" package. But there could be a reckoning.
A new statewide poll shows 53 percent of Pennsylvanians — and 66 percent of Republicans — want someone to replace Sen. Arlen Specter. …
The numbers might reflect Specter's vote as one of three Republican senators who enabled passage of President Obama's $787 billion federal stimulus package, said James Lee, president of Harrisburg-based Susquehanna polling. But they reflect long-standing dissatisfaction among Republican conservatives with Specter's record, he said.
If the election were held today, "in a two-person race, Specter is toast" if his challenger is a credible candidate, Lee said.
Maybe there is such a thing as justice.
On a tip from Byron.

There are certain RINOs that warrant voting for a Democrat simply to get the RINO off of important committees. Specter's Judicial committee chair is a good example.

Arlen Sphincter outlived his usefulness decades ago. He really made an ass out of himself over the years.

Good riddance! Now, PA needs to find a solid Conservative to run against him.

Here's part of Specter's canned response to my letter and e-mail on the subject of the Hogzilla Bill:
"I supported the economic stimulus package for one simple reason: The country could not afford not to take action. The unemployment figures, the latest earnings reports and the continuing crisis in banking made it clear that failure to act would have left the United States facing a far deeper crisis in the future.
I carefully weighed the vote on the stimulus package because of the large deficit and the large national debt faced by future generations. But the economy is in a desperate situation. Just in the month of January, 2009 we lost 600,000 jobs, added to the loss of 2.8 million in 2008. There are millions of people who are having their homes foreclosed. The economists tell us that if we do not act that the current severe recession could well develop into a full-fledged depression like 1929."
In other words: "The sky is falling and we need to go socialist, so go (bleep) yourself".
He even adopts Obama's straw man alternative of "doing nothing" and the old standard of invoking the Great Depression.
Looks like I have no choice but to actively recruit and support a viable Republican challenger. And I won't vote for Specter in the general even if Chris Matthews is running against him.

Happy trails, Arlen.

Just you watch, Club for Growth and others (maybe even Steele and the RNC?) have GOT to come down hard on him next election cycle. CFG effectively got rid of a RINO representative (Wayne Gilchrest) in Maryland with lots of TV and radio ads. In the general election the true conservative Republican lost only by 2000 votes, a frustrating loss but more than worth it to see Gilchrest flushed for supporting Pelosi one too many a time.
Yes... happy trails, Arlen!

This is not a much of a victory for the Republicans.
Specter is too old, stupid and sick to run again anyway.
Revival of conservativism in the Republican party requires flushing out a lot of other RINOs, including the most nauseating ones, like Lindsay Graham.
A necessary house cleaning would require courage and stamina; not qualities seen in the present groveling Republican leadership.

Retire now, Sen. Aardvark, and appoint a staunch conservative to replace you (giving him or her a "leg up" come the off-year elections of 2010).
Auf Weidersehen, Arlen, and don't let the door-knob hit you on the ass on the way out (to paraphrase Michelle Malkin).
Bye! So long! F--- you!

I dunno.
I won't really believe he is toast until he is actually defeated.
After Pennsylvanians re-elected John "bring all the Gitmo detainees to my district" Murtha, I think ANYTHING can happen

Specter a RINO?? Really? Isn't the definition of a party-line Republican someone who from 2002-2006 ran up cumulative deficits of $1.5 TRILLION (before interest). (Source:http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy08/sheets/hist01z1.xls) If Specter is a RINO, I'd hate to see a hard-line Republican!! Fiberal's post has it about right. @ ccoffer post 6:34PM- I'd take your bet if I could get a Republican earmark to post against your cash.

Arlen Specter is a wealthy man. And he's not in good health. He needs to go back home to East Falls, grow some tomatoes or somethin, and play with his grandkids.
Unfortunately, it might be hard to get rid of him because he has tons of cash and is still fairly popular in Philadelphia -- you know, the city that helped Pennsylvania to Barky . . .
