Pulling the Wings Off an Insect

Glenn Beck asks Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to explain why he prosecutes citizens who have broken no law, but refuses to prosecute criminals like Chris Dodd:

As Beck is clearly horrified to have noticed, Hope and Change mean degenerating into the sort of country where laws don't matter anymore.

Saw this live, had to back up the TiVo a couple of times. Kicked butt.

Oh Lord, I wish we had TV like this in the EUSSR. As Dan Hannan said on Beck's show, you just don't get questions like this on crappy British TV.

Brilliant clip.

I saw this. It's great.

Glenn Beck is the man.

Yeah, he got nailed.

However, as he said, I'm fairly sure he doesn't have the authority to go after Dodd. Campaign laws for congress are generally federal laws, so it would be up to the US attorney general, not the AG of any particular state. He's "refusing" because he legally can't.

How does this moron get through the day an perform enough work to justify his existence? He says it's his duty to pursue this AIG debacle, does he do it at work during work hours? Of course he does. How many hours does he subtract from his work week at his workplace and what are the jobs he should be doing? He's cheating the clock at work to get attention and accolades. THAT'S against the law, isn't it?

Blumenthal is a weasel.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Politician and government officials are as sleazy as ever. It's good though to see some tough questions coming from a modern media source...

That was fantastic, I saw it live, I was riveted. Speaking of Dan Hannan, he is all over the TV and radio, isn't he? He's like *our* rock star. The YouTube video of his tongue-lashing is at 1,892,327 hits, with 12,000 comments.

Incidentally, Google does not make it all that easy to find, curiously enough. They don't "finish" your search word. They give you Dan Hannaford and so forth. Losers.

abada abada abada that's twisted folks!!!!!

Karin, I've been one of the occasional commentariat on Dan's blog for a couple of years now, and have said a couple of times on there that he was deserving of greater things. I hope this is the start of something significant. In fact, not just for Dan Hannan, but for the internet community setting the news agenda too. Particularly here in Britain there are no real MSM outlets for non-leftists. No talk radio, nor Fox News. The newspapers offer "right" and "left" but they're all embedded in the Political Class. So Dan Hannan's moment has given us a bit of a hopeychange feeling :oD To say our own media has been grudging about it is the understatement of the year.

"However, as he said, I'm fairly sure he doesn't have the authority to go after Dodd."

The AG made the case that he could not go after Dodd because he was a federal official. This is patently false and the AG is very well aware of it.

The AG absolutely has the authority to prosecute any resident of his state no matter who it is, as long as he has probable cause. Being a Federal Official does not give him immunity from prosecution for criminal behavior in any state in the US.

He's a Democrat, so it does. If it was a Republican, the weasel would go after him with both barrels at full bore.

Posted by: Scaramouche at April 1, 2009 7:48 AM

The idiot Bloomenthaul seems not to uphold the law, but make his own up as he goes along. The epitome of liberalism right there.

Posted by: Atomic Lib Smasher at April 1, 2009 8:23 AM

Well, since Nick already fed the troll, I could also point out that the law hasn't stopped the grabbing hands of the AG from going after the lawfully received AIG bonuses.

It's not that Dodd is a federal official; it is that he violated a federal law. Do state AGs have standing to bring cases into a federal court? Can someone clear this up for me?
