PETA Kills 95% of Adoptable Pets in Its Care
Despite all the sanctimonious demands that we ban circuses, lab animals, and hamburgers, the militants at PETA are no friends of animals:
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the animal rights group kills an average of 5.8 pets every day at its Norfolk, VA headquarters.
According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.
Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of pets they kill every year. Last year, the Center for Consumer Freedom petitioned Virginia’s State Veterinarian to reclassify PETA as a slaughterhouse.
So if PETA doesn't really care about animals, what's the point? The same as always with the left: control over our lives for its own sake, thinly disguised by phony self-righteous posturing.

Only a tiny fraction of the human population can qualify for being hosts to these companions (the term "pet" is not to be used, and will get you thrown out of the adoption screening process).

It makes the Liberals feel good about themselves, that's all that ever mattered.

"Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter."
I find this to be the most contemptible element of the PETA agenda. From their throne of absolute animal moral authority, PETA will collect money in the name of animal rights, while simultaneously putting them to death rather than trying to find them a home. It's all good as long it is PETA who is conducting the slaughter. Fucking phonies.

What does left or right have to do with the whack jobs at PETA? PETA is nobodies friend, they want ALL pets and domesticated animals eradicated, it says so right in their mission statement. So it is no surprise they killed a bunch of pets.
And ya know what? Morons that call themselves democrats support them and morons who call themselves rebuplicans support them.
Posted by: amy at March 30, 2009 4:37 PM
opps Republicans I meant. But all PETA supporters are morons.

And yet PETA hires a bunch of hollywood celeberies to do stupid and rediculous ads for them urging us to go vegan and yet they have killed up to 95% of the animals they have adopted and thats far more then MICHEAL VICK. TELL PETA TO SHOVE IT UP THEIR *****

Please allow me to respond to your March 30 post regarding PETA’s 2008 euthanasia statistics. The deceitfully-named Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), to which you link in your post, is a front group for Philip Morris, Outback Steakhouse, KFC, cattle ranchers, and other animal exploiters who kill millions of animals every year, not out of compassion, but out of greed (see http://www.bermanexposed.org/ and http://www.consumerdeception.com/). Not surprisingly then, CCF's release includes false information, which your blog repeats.
Most of the animals we took in and euthanized were not adoptable, and in fact, were taken in precisely because they were unadoptable. They could hardly be called "pets," as they had spent their lives on heavy chains or isolated pens, for instance. They were severely unsocialized, having gone mad from confinement or made aggressive. Others were indeed someone's companions, but they were aged, sick, injured, or dying, and PETA offered them a release from suffering, with no charge to their owners or custodians. We offer our services to many impoverished residents who often can’t afford to provide for their animals even a dignified exit.
PETA handled far more animals than 2,124 in 2008. In fact, we took in more than 10,000 dogs and cats, spaying and neutering all of them at low to no cost. We gave them shots, fixed their wounds and treated their illnesses, and returned them to the community. The figures you cite also do not include the hundreds upon hundreds of dogs and cats whose suffering PETA works to alleviate by providing them with free food when their owners are poor, clean water buckets, sturdy dog houses, straw for winter, and more, or the hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats we will not take in but refer to walk-in animal shelters and adoption centers. Since 2001, PETA's low- to no-cost spay-and-neuter mobile clinics, SNIP and ABC, have sterilized more than 50,000 animals, preventing hundreds of thousands of animals from being born, neglected, abandoned, abused, or euthanized when no one wanted them.
As long as animals are still be purposely bred and people aren't spaying and neutering their companions, open-admission animal shelters and organizations like PETA must do society's dirty work. Euthanasia is not a solution to overpopulation but rather a tragic necessity given the present crisis. PETA is proud to be a "shelter of last resort," where animals who have no place to go or who are unwanted or suffering are welcomed with love and open arms.
We would love your and anyone’s help to cut down on the number of unwanted, discarded animals in our local area and nationwide. Please, help us end overpopulation by spaying and neutering your animals, never buying animals from breeders or pet shops, and encouraging your readers to do the same. Daphna Nachminovitch :
That must be why PETA employees are on trial for taking 31 ADOPTABLE animals away from city pounds, and then killing them, and dumping their bodies in trashcans?

YOU FUCKING SCUMBAG.

Sorry, Daphna, but:
1. As xantl pointed out, PETA employees are on trial for killing adoptable animals and disposing of their bodies in trash cans. That's not terribly humane or "Ethical". This is especially bad considering that for a long time before that incident became public knowledge, your PETA people knowingly lied by claiming your shelters were "No kill shelters."
2. I love KFC and Outback Steakhouse. I knew the dirty hippies from groups like PETA hated KFC, but I didn't know you also hate Outback Steakhouse. The latter is one of my favorite places to go for a special- occasion dinner (i.e. birthday celebrations), and the former is another place I gladly go to. Knowing that these places piss off hippies like you and the other PETA freaks is an added bonus, as it gives me more satisfaction when I eat at those places.
3. I see no problem with getting pets from pet shops or responsible breeders (Not puppy mills, mind you, but good and humane breeders). Our dog Pearl was bought from a small private breeder, and she lived a long, very happy life with our family
4. Forgive me for not caring much about the words of a woman who's part of an organization which has provided financial support to known terrorist groups such as Earth First (Spit).
5. I also have issues with organizations that put out pamphlets designed specifically to turn children against their parents, as PETA has (i.e. PETA has put out comic pamphlets for kids which portray mothers who wear fur and fathers who go fishing as horrible, evil, sadistic monsters and have titles such as "Your Mommy Loves Killing Animals").
6. You PETA freaks love to howl and throw your pretentious temper tantrums whenever an animal is killed for meat, but I wonder how many of you hypocrites fully support abortion?
Posted by: Adam at March 31, 2009 1:21 PM
Oh, and one more point I forgot to mention, Daphna:
7. You guys claim to be concerned about humane and ethical treatment of animals, yet your psychotic founder Ingrid Newkirk has stated that she feels all pit bulls should be euthanized, until the entire breed is wiped off the face of the Earth. That is essentially a call for genocide against an entire breed of dogs, based solely upon what a few brutes like Michael Vick did to a few pit bulls. That doesn't sound like someone advocating humane and ethical treatment of animals.
Posted by: Adam at March 31, 2009 1:27 PM
PETA did not even try. Simple as that.
I own fifteen cats and five dogs and have veterinarian bills for them, first aid training from my vet, medical supplies on site, and they are fed and watered properly. The cats are all FLV/FLK infected and the default response of animal control, the (in)humane society, and PETA is to kill them, not take care of them and give them the longest life they can have.
I spend a few thousand dollars a year and many hours of my life on them by choice. People like PETA think to own more than two cats is hoarding and will scream with big blue cheeks about what a horrible person you are. Really. I take excellent care of a small menagerie and PETA simply mass executes animals without trying to find a home.
There's no excuse PETA. You seem to believe as the population control people like Margaret Sanger did that the populations you'd rather not spend time on are better off dead. Your sort of callous disregard for life, arrogant placement of top priority on your own, and rabid eagerness to embrace lifeboat ethics as the thinnest of justification clearly shows you have no idea of what the word "ethical" means.

Sorry Daphna. I do not believe a single word that comes from any deceitfully-named PETA whack job. NOT ONE WORD...
