Nation of Vampires

According to this graph, the terminal cancer that is liberalism has passed the tipping point:

whopaystaxes.gif

You'll notice that more than half of us receive more from the government than we give in taxes. Having reached this point, nothing but the tattered remnants of morality prevents the parasitical majority from stealing more and more from the productive minority, until the producers have been bled dry and the whole kleptocracy inevitably collapses into abject poverty.

Since shiftlessness is subsidized and productivity is punitively taxed, our socialist rulers should hardly be surprised that they will be getting less of the latter. Calls are getting louder for Atlas to shrug. From Pursuing Holiness, the source of the graph:

As the natural consequences of these disastrous polices - foreign policy based on magical thinking, energy policy designed to increase costs and cause shortages, economic policy that has already stolen big chunks out of people's retirement funds by sending the stock market back to Clinton administration levels, with no floor in sight - the country is going to suffer. I welcome that, to the extent necessary to cause people to re-think their attitudes and comprehend the results of their entitlement mentality. By going John Galt - reducing my income to the point that I no longer subsidize anyone else via government imposed wealth transfers - I hope to hasten the inevitable collapse. The H.E.N.R.Y.s feel the same way; people who are in the dreaded eeevil, mean capitalist pig $250,000 bracket are cutting back on their productivity. As they should - where does society get the right to enslave these people? The faster the 40% opts out, the sooner the collapse, and the sooner we can correct the situation.
Think of it as praying the alcoholic in your family will hit rock bottom sooner, rather than later. It's time to stop enabling the entitlement mentality. It's time to let go of our co-dependency and desire to be liked. It's time for an intervention. It's time to go John Galt.

The alternative is to subsist as a slave.

On a tip from Al C.

One thing that chart doesnt include is single people. I make just over $45,000/yr and I paid $4000 in federal/state and local wage taxes (not including $1300 in property taxes). Families with kids get huge tax breaks while singles get screwed.

Families with kids don't get huge tax breaks if we make decent money. We have a kid and didn't get any tax break because the benefit "phases out" somewhere below our family income.

Self-employed and 1099 people are the ones who really get hammered due to the full 15% "self-employment tax" that employees only pay half of.

But anyway, we've apparently reached the point of no return having more than half of the population taking more than they are paying. I don't see how it can turn around at this point - especially since a good number of hand-wringing white-guilt types in the top 40% willingly voted for their own destruction.

Here's s hilarious commentary by Glenn Beck commenting on "24" Going Green and being carbon neutral. Beck is a little nuts sometimes but he can be funny.

Singles even making "decent" money still pay way more of a tax burden than families with kids. The difference shrinks the higher income goes into the six figure and above, but its still there, except for the super rich.

I was single with no kids up until 3 years ago, but I've been sorely disappointed by the lack of tax benefits from getting married and having a kid since then.

What specific tax benefits do you think come with kids and marriage? I'd like to tell my accountant about them if they really exist.

Posted by: forest at March 4, 2009 9:25 AM

Tax benefits? Each child you get deductions. Granted it cost more to raise a kid than you get, but its still extra money.

This data is obviously time-sensitive.
I would like to see the data charted annually since Lyndon Johnson's dumbass "War on Poverty".
Then projected over a few years when the top 20% flips to the positive side, everyone will make more than they spend!

Hey....Utopia.

Why pay more taxes. Why work harder to loose more to the Govt which just gives it to people who will not work.

I am not rich by any means. But through hard work I have very little debt and lots of liquid assets (can you say barter system).

Wife and I are flipping the coin to see which one of us gets to go to a 'part time' job so we can 1/2 our taxible income. We will still pay taxes, but our quality of life will be far greater.

Also, our personal satisfaction of not just working our asses off to pay all of the 'reward' to social programs = priceless.

We will always have jobs of some sort. And, at this point in my life, getting paid less to do less sounds great. So sad, too bad Uncle Obama.

People who argue that wealthier people shouldn't have to subsidize poorer people seem to forget that a great many of the wealthier people get wealthier by charging the poor ever more for goods and services, while paying them ever less for their labor.

If wealthy people get that way at the expense of the poor, why be so surprised when poor people elect officials who help to bring some of the money back their way?

Also, since it is the cheap labor and the expensive purchases and bills paid by the poor that make the rich richer and the poor poorer, I should think that it is in poor taste for the rich to complain about giving a little back so that the poor can survive and have some quality of life.

I guess when you get comfortable, financially, you lose human compassion and understanding for anybody who isn't; I wouldn't know...

I've never made over $25,000 a year for any of the hard work that I have done for my various wealthy employers, but I would gladly give up a third of my money in taxes if someone would pay me $100,000 or more, instead of making $15,000 and getting back a $5000 tax refund.

If any of you six figure making, higher tax bracket types want to switch incomes and tax brackets with me, so you don't have to pay anything and get a refund, I'd be more than willing to consider moving into your fancy house and driving your fancy car to your easy job, and you can live in my small apartment and work crappy jobs as you can find them, driving around in an aging crappy car. I think you would quickly realize that paying some of your wealth in taxes beats not having any, and learn not to complain about being taxed for enjoying the luxuries that so many live without.

"The people who say that money can't buy you happiness are just the rich people trying to keep the poor from striving to get their money."

Sorry to sully your page with a second "moonbat" response from a silly, logical liberal, but I needed to bring up another point for those of you deluding yourselves here who need a wake up call:

I am constantly amazed at the way that Conservatives, especially Republicans, either can't see how hypocritical their thoughts and words and actions are, or just don't care! The best example of this is their support of "bailing out" the corrupt and inefficient titans of industry, so that banking and auto CEOs can give themselves bonuses for losing and embezzling money, which is not free market capitalism, which they supposedly promote, but rather SOCIALISM and WELFARE for the rich. But when it comes to the working poor and middle classes from whom they stole the money and exploited the cheap labor and overcharged for goods and services, suddenly SOCIALISM and WELFARE are evil things that are supposed to make people think of totalitarian dictatorships. Also, as long as we are describing different forms of government, it's amazing to me that Conservative Republicans can call Obama and other liberal Democrats Socialists, but can't face reality and admit that Bush and his administration were Fascists. If we are going to call a Socialist a Socialist, lets also call a Fascist a Fascist, despite any negative connotations the word may have, like invoking thoughts of Adolph Hitler and the Nazis. Euphemistic language never did anyone any good. If there is to be an honest and productive dialog between the political extremes, each needs to accept it's own true nature if it expects the other to.

...I'd be more than willing to consider moving into your fancy house and driving your fancy car to your easy job...

~And thus your entire comment is suspect. You shouldn't show your class envy like this. You mention, with disdain, your "wealthy employers." Have you ever been employed by a poor person? What if those "wealthy employers" had simply refused to expand because the opportunity cost of doing so was greater than maintaining the status quo? Maybe you wouldn't have even found that 20K a year job. And honestly, don't blame us that you haven't been able to develop a needed skill set that allowed you to demand more for your talent. That may sound cruel, but you're not even entitled to have employment, much less complain about the salary. You don't like it? Then do something about it.

The best example of this is their support of "bailing out" the corrupt and inefficient titans of industry...

~That's your best example? Then you're entire argument fails miserably. Epic failure, even. We never supported industry bailouts. Never. I have a task for you. Search this site for some articles pointing to our supposed support for TARP. I'll wait a few days for your response, or until you tire of searching in vain, whichever comes first. Believe it or not, a lot of us here felt betrayed by Bush for his insane spending and "compassionate conservatism" malarkey.

And a final minor point, if Bush had been a fascist he would've silenced his critics, or at least attempted to do so. You know, it would've been similar to how the Obama administration has admitted to an enemy list consisting of media personalities who've criticized his asinine budget and "stimulus" plans. But don't let reality or facts get in the way of your rhetoric.

Mark Baland: see if you can squeeze any more memes into one post. So far you've got 'corporate welfare,' exploitation of the poor and the workers, Bush was a fascist.. Do you people ever have an original thought?

Mandible

They do not.
They simply look for victims and villians.
