Moonbats Scheme to Raise the Cost of Alcohol
Progressives tried prohibition once and it failed. But that's no reason not to try it again. After all, socialism has failed repeatedly, resulting in the deaths of over 100 million people. Yet they keep inflicting it.
Nowadays progressive policies are usually imposed by increments. The next step toward Prohibition II will be raising the price of alcohol, just as they've been doing for bullets. From the People's Republic of Britain:
The Government's top medical adviser warned that "cheap alcohol is killing us as never before", as he unveiled proposals for a minimum price for alcohol.
Professor Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer, suggested that a minimum price of 50p per unit be set in an attempt to tackle the country's drinking problem. …
He said that the plan could see pubs and restaurants ordered to charge £1 per unit, with supermarkets and off licences allowed a lower minimum of 40 or 50p.
The move could double the cost of some drinks. It would be likely to increase the price of all bottles of wine to at least £4.50 and raise the price of the average six-pack of lager to £6.00.
Sir Liam said that radical measures were necessary to cope with problems resulting from a "deeply ingrained" drinking culture, which cost the NHS an estimated £2.7 billion a year.
Once again we see how socialized medicine serves as an ideal wedge for totalitarianism. We can't let you drink alcohol, you might drink too much and raise health costs. We can't let you play football, you might hurt yourself and raise health costs. We can't let you drive, you might crash your car and raise health costs. We have to pull out your teeth, you might bite yourself and raise health costs.
Where will it stop? At the point we rebel, and not before.
On a tip from TD.

No shit. Ban motorcycles. Ban fast food. Ban bungee-jumping, hockey & surfing, for Christ's sake.
Why not change the age for legal adulthood to 85 so no one ever will ever have to decide anything for themselves?

Dolts. Don't they see that if they increase the costs of such items it will not reduce the amount of consumption but instead INCREASE the already staggering crime rate paralleling the drug industry? Can you spell INEPT?

They're trying to take away alcohol?
It's on now. It's so on.

They better keep the price of Victory Gin down which would be double plus good and well received by the proles.

The Soviet Union kept vodka prices low-helps to keep the masses medicated and less likely to revolt. This could be a huge miscalculation.

What's the problem; alcohol is an addictive, intoxicating, mind-altering drug that gives some people pleasure when they consme it. Are you hippies against the war on drugs or something?

Well then why don't you? You indulge in such tough talk during every thread; you're going to use your guns to overthrow the communist government and blah, blah, blah every other minute, but it's all talk and no walk.

They try to do that too much here, and I take up my old hobby of beermaking. It's a peck of fun. My dad tried his hand at wine-making; that could also be an enjoyable hobby. Gin in the bathtub. Hard cider in the toolshed.
Dickless, there are many ways to rebel.
As for the Brits, until they overthrow their nanny culture that they've gotten themselves into, I can't help them. You'd think they'd be tired of feeling all emasculated. I don't even know how any of them get it up anymore.

"I don't even know how any of them get it up anymore."
Maybe it's your smile?

Again, they make no sense.
As with cigarettes in the US, they tax this stuff and the government gets accustomed to the tax revenues. Eventually, people stop using the product that they drove up the price on; therefore, the tax revenues diminish and the government looks for the funds elsewhere.
Just leave it alone. Leave us alone!

Maybe it would be best if we did nothing at all. That way there would be no risk involved. Just lie perfectly still on your bed all day rather than risk harming yourself by actually living life.

Mark - you know, you might be onto something there.
Lay around the house all day and do nothing except watch Oprah and The View or CNN, and wait for the Mail Man to bring your gubment check to spend on a bigger flat screen TV. Even pump out a few extra bastard children to collect more of that free gobment money.
That might just be the way..........
Oh, wait a minute. It was a trick statement. That is what all the no good lazy welfare Obamatrons do while we are out working. Its already being done.
