Chairman Zero Is Coming for Your Laptop

The Fourth Amendment was nice while it lasted.

Does anyone see the irony in Russian news alarming us to totalitarian intrusion into our computers?

Posted by: cubedweller at March 29, 2009 12:57 PM

Remember how the lefturds messed themselves over the wiretapping for national security during the Bush years? Now Obamer wants to search your ipod to protect Sony's balance sheet!!! heh - stupid dumbocrats

This administration will not be open about its actions, yet must know all of your actions.
"To Know Everything"
Any resemblance to The Stasi is purely coincidental.

Clearly by transparent they were referring to your life being transparent.

Posted by: Jeff Stone at March 29, 2009 1:22 PM

Liberal fascism at its finest.

Very sad, and scary.

You just want to grab these people and say: are you SURE this is where you want things to go?

Posted by: mega at March 29, 2009 1:35 PM

Socialism is about complete control.

Posted by: Jimbo at March 29, 2009 2:38 PM

Let's list the logical problems with this:

The reporter is speculating with a lack of data. Treaty negotiations are not usually made public until a result has been reached.

The Senate has to ratify the treaty before it becomes US law. Those proceedings won't be secret. Moreover, do you think the Senate as a whole would ratify something as nefarious as what the rampant speculation is about? (Well, maybe, Disney has forced through copyright extension so many times that Pong won't be open source for another 50 years or so.)

Copyrights are a conservative notion. They are one of the few rights explicitly mentioned in the Constitution.

You all well know that the US has a history of not adhering to international treaties; even ones we agreed to. Nothing says that even in the worst case such policies would be enforced.

Also, are you really sure you're against this? Replace music with child porn, would you still oppose it?

Posted by: Anonymous at March 29, 2009 3:13 PM

Considering the fact that everything this Administration has done in the first 100+ days is to destroy the American economy, I doubt that Obama is worried about 'copyrights' that companies need to make money on.

No, this is a straight out move to violate privicy, and eventually quelsh dissent (free speach to you liberal morons), guised as something it is not.

Buy ammo. But then I repeat myself, no?

Posted by: Oiao at March 29, 2009 4:04 PM

Remember how the lambasted Bush for doing the same thing?

Yeah.

Posted by: Scaramouche at March 29, 2009 4:20 PM

"Also, are you really sure you're against this? Replace music with child porn, would you still oppose it?"

There is this little thing called "probable cause." As such, going through someone's personal computer is akin to raiding their home without a warrant. Also, just because there are some sickos out there is no excuse to raid the computers (and violate privacy) of the hundreds of thousands of others that are not breaking the law.

Obama fires GM CEO and Chairman

Apparently, The People now own the means of production at GM.....

Posted by: Rob Banks at March 29, 2009 6:28 PM

They passed a worthless 1000 page stimulus package without reaing a single page of it.

Guys, just FYI. Our border agents can already do this (and do). It's something I always bitched and moaned about during the Bush years.

Personally, I have nothing to hide on my laptop, however my profession involves computer security, so I encrypt the hell out of everything and keep anything personal well enough hidden that I can't find it sometimes. Those minimum wage butt holes that run border security aren't finding jack crap on my computer. *big middle finger to Big Brother*

Posted by: Paul H at March 29, 2009 7:02 PM

PAUL H
Your paranoia is showing.
If you were as smart as you think you are, you would know that ANY encryption can be broken and that the internet is one of the least secure forms of comunication.

PS: The Border Patrol doesn't make minimum wage.

anyone who doesn't want they're computer searched is a blatant pedophile.

John Appleton. at March 29, 2009 9:32 PM,

Kindly keep your generalist stupidity to yourself.

I don't want anyone searched simply to satisfy some suspicion based on allegations or "gut feeling". Due Process is a tenet of our society and I resent and fear these attacks on our privacy.

Consider if you had pictures on your computer of your Wife/girlfriend. These sensitive items are private and not for the general perusal of Law Enforcement or anyone else.

Consider all your bank statements, personal information, identifying numbers, e-mails, contacts, etc. All these things laid bare for anyone to take?

Even Police have been known to be corrupt. It is not a new concept.

I suppose I'm just feeding the Trolls though...

Posted by: Evil Monk at March 29, 2009 9:47 PM

No redeeming social value.

VH - PLEASE delete the post above, made by a tolerant liberal.

Posted by: Jimbo at March 29, 2009 10:02 PM

Jimbo, VH has quite a few posts to delete around here. It seems as though they are already practicing circling the wagons for when the GIVE Act comes through and Kristalnacth 2009 comes to play.

Posted by: Atomic Lib Smasher at March 29, 2009 10:05 PM

You know, registering would cut a lot of this crap out. Trolls: you CAN live without them.

Posted by: Oiao at March 29, 2009 4:04 PM

Are... you hearing yourself? Businesses have a very clear interest in making copyright enforcement as stringent as possible. They've certainly pulled plenty of dick moves before, such calculating a person's net worth and then suing them for that exact amount over copyright infringements. You guys are always complaining about businesses bribing government for favorable treatment.

The obvious conclusion here is government corruption; terrible but understandable. However, you're leaping from this to maniacal socialists wanting to quash dissent? That's paranoia.

Posted by: Anonymous at March 29, 2009 10:28 PM

Oops...hey guys...I accidentally

THE WHOLE ECONOMY.

Posted by: Anonymous at March 29, 2009 10:36 PM

Keep it up. It doesnt hurt. But you have to look in to see what's doing and once in a while the truth will hit you.
Mind you, I didnt believe people like you existed until now.

Posted by: Jim at March 30, 2009 12:54 AM

I love liberals. I also love the personal slam on me. I'm actually smarter than I think I am. And yes, all encryption can be broken, but unless they're going to jack my ethernetless system into the NSA, it ain't happening at the airport. Your ignorance only amuses me. I love it when smart asses like you try to even talk to me about cryptography like you know something. CSI ain't the real world kid-o.

And, what's up with all the trolls now? Perhaps it's time for user registration and validation so these tools have to show their face. I'd love to have their IP addresses.

Posted by: Paul H at March 30, 2009 4:14 AM

And they were bitching during the patriot act.

Posted by: AC at March 30, 2009 5:04 AM

Van, can you please step in soon to ban these vile posts, and the IP addresses of whatever unbalanced deviant is posting them like you did with Dino?

Posted by: Adam at March 30, 2009 5:26 AM

Anyone believe liberals aren't vile? It's a good time to bring them here. Party of Compassion.

Liberal version of "Free Speech".

The saving grace here is that software freedom activists, I'm willing to bet, probably voted in droves for Obama; he's casting himself unfavorably among one contingent of the far-left base.

Posted by: brent at March 30, 2009 9:07 AM

anyone who doesn't want they're computer searched is a blatant pedophile.

Please post the entirety of your hard drive online for public scrutiny.

Posted by: J at March 30, 2009 5:14 PM

VH ought to let the liberal comments stand.

It's a great tool to show the deep level of ignorance embodied by the liberal electorate, simply read their own words.
