World's Richest Geek Tries to Terrify Audience
Yuk yuk. That Bill Gates is such a card:
Microsoft founder turned philanthropist Bill Gates released a glass full of mosquitoes at an elite technology conference to make a point about the deadly disease malaria.
"Malaria is spread by mosquitoes," Gates said while opening a jar onstage at the Technology, Entertainment, Design Conference — a gathering known to attract technology kings, politicians, and Hollywood stars.
"I brought some. Here I'll let them roam around. There is no reason only poor people should be infected."
A few minutes after releasing the jarful of mosquitoes, Gates told his audience that the insects didn't really have malaria. But I doubt he told them the reason mosquitoes are able to kill so many millions in the Third World: his fellow sanctimonious liberal do-gooders have managed to suppress the use of DDT, which had saved half a billion lives but is considered ideologically unclean by moonbats.

On tips from Matt L, Matt from the Knights of the Dumb Table, and nancz.

Really, the banning of DDT just hammers home the inherent racism of moonbats. The chemical was fine for us to use to completely eradicate malaria from our own country. But then, we found out that it might cause some bird eggs to have thinner shells (regardless of whether or not it's a true correlation), so what do we do? We ban it, completely, from the entire world. Nevermind the thousands suffering with malaria in Africa. They can't be trusted to make their own decisions about their own public health, can they? Those backward tribal idiots. We have to keep salvation from them, for the bird eggs.
It bears repeating: If liberals didn't have double standards they'd have no standards at all.

Closet Cluebat IMAO.
Sick 'em Bill.
Cue response:
"In thrall to International Chemical cartels."

A fabulous post exposing (yet again) the profound double standards and hypocrisy with which the Liberal Elite robe themselves.
How many deaths has this elitist lib-turd mentality inflicted upon the planet? Don't forget to include the millions that resulted from our retreat from Vietnam and the subsequent killing fields in southeast Asia. With the Eco-Green revolution and its potential for negative effects on growing third-world economies, you'll be able to count millions more.

Ahh... any DDT truck chasers out there?? I remember the good old days on our bikes. Never did anything to us. At least I think not. LOL.
Posted by: Pete at February 5, 2009 9:33 AM
So what happened after he pulled that stunt? Did anyone remain in the room waiting to get bitten?
Posted by: Name at February 5, 2009 9:35 AM
wonder what he would have done for a demonstration on aids...
Posted by: nancz at February 5, 2009 9:36 AM
"Other chemicals are available, but they are generally less effective, shorter-acting and - most importantly for the Third World - more expensive. And DDT is extraordinarily safe for humans. Prof Kenneth Mellanby lectured on it for more than 40 years, and during each lecture he would eat a pinch."
Posted by: cowlove at February 5, 2009 9:39 AM
Oh, the mosquitoes didn't have Malaria? How about Encephalitis? Or a host of other diseases those critters carry? Did you test every one of those things to make sure that they had no diseases, Mr. Gates?
Idiot...
Posted by: Nancy at February 5, 2009 9:40 AM
He makes a valid point. Many of the ills in our world are because influential people decide to do what is fashionably 'good', e.g. banning DDT, rather than what is really good, .g. preventing malaria.
Perhaps Mr. Gates is starting to come over to the light side.

"A woman from Texas has reportedly undergone nine breast enlargement operations to become the proud owner of the world's largest breast implants — size 38KKK.
American doctors had refused to carry out any more operations on Sheyla Hershey, 28, when her breasts were a staggering 34FFF, but that didn't stop her from going under the knife for the record breaking surgery.
"To me, big is beautiful. I don’t think I have anything to worry about," the Houston-resident said.
Still determined to increase her bustline, Hershey jetted off to Brazil where there are no limits on the size of implants.
The surgery required a full gallon of silicone."

From the Fox news article.
The philanthropist has been pushing to reduce malaria deaths through the nonprofit. In September, Gates announced that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation would provide $168.7 million to the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative to help develop a vaccine for the deadly disease.

The guy is a doofus, but he is NOT stupid. And he is the richest doofus in the world. So you can bet he consulted with his attorneys and used the cleanest lab-raised mosquitos in the world.
Might have even borrowed Dick Cheney's lab.

How apt!
Just as his half-baked software serves as the perfect vector for malware across the internet, the rainman assclown releases mosquitoes in a roomful of people at a conference on a topic that virtually assures that HIV-positive attendees are in the room.
I smell lawsuits.

for standing water around our places, there's nothing like some vegetable oil that will smother any mosquito larvae. it's harmless to the rest of the wildlife.
Posted by: nancz at February 5, 2009 10:00 AM
nancz where's the fun in that? As a conservative, I always look to cause maximum damage to nature in whatever I do or say. Or something like that.

WHO Backs Use of DDT Against Malaria
by Joanne Silberner
September 15, 2006
In the early 1960s, several developing countries had nearly wiped out malaria. After they stopped using DDT, malaria came raging back and other control methods have had only modest success.

I thought Gates was a global warming nut.
Isn't letting malaria kill people a great way to reduce the carbon footprint?

Gates is into the feel-good business, but cutting the mortality rate without reducing the birth rate is a recipe for future famines. The two rates need to be brought down together.

I guess building DDT plants for Africans is to easy for these liberal freaks? In 2006 WHO had to declare DDT safe after trying for over 30 years that the crackpot Rachael Carson was right, and failed.
Ove 1 million African children under the age of 5 die yearly because of this liberal DDT hoax.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 5, 2009 7:03 PM
Not me, but someone mentioned that you are talking about it, so it was a good publicity stunt.
I'm going to look into ddt and the science around its environmental impact. I remember the lotion and the trucks down in mexico. What is this talk of a ban? How can we ban a chemical in Africa precisely?
I think there are many intermediary steps before we saturate africa with ddt, but to save human lives, I agree there is some environmental devastation that can be risked if those countries choose to do so. I think the best approach for most of you would have been some help with a link to ddt science, but then that would interrupt the laugh fest. Guess I'll go google it. Remember that scientists eating the stuff is not the only concern. We need to think of the babies in the womb and children whose development might be affected. Its only prudent science to understand that, perhaps we may never know because of the social anathema surrounding pcbs and ddt.

SAVE A BIRD KILL MISQUITOS
Posted by: Spurwing Plover at February 5, 2009 10:44 PM
Bill Gates is kindof a douche, TBH.
I went to a media event where he was presenting the new (at the time) Microsoft software that allows users to "tour" the solar system, galaxy etc., he presents one of the recorded "tours" that some 7-year-old kid supposedly made and narrated, and it was the slickest copy-written, professionally-edited piece of ad copy, the world's richest man is on stage trying to pass this turd off as some spontaneous usage of the software that a seven-year old called "Billy" had supposedly made and sent in to Microsoft (before the software was even widely available to the public.)
Incidents like that one (sorry if my explanation was unclear) and the mosquito-releasing thing are just cringe-worthy. The world's richest guy can't donate to charity and work through his own charity without having to make some kind of meaningless "sensation" about malaria; can't pitch his own product without lying about its usability.. It's kindof an ultimate example of the style-over-substance culture that is prevailing now. (Although the ultimate example of that culture is of course O's election.)

He is a saddist. And stealing Helen Thomas' children.

Because the systematic slaughter of children is just.so.funny. huh Bill?
Consider it post-birth "choice". Part of an international stimulus plan.

By refusing to sell it to the nation and threatening sanctions against the nation if it buys or uses the chemical. Do you really not know this stuff?
