The Island of Doctor Moreau Revisited
The moonbattery that has poisoned academia is leading us toward a nightmarish science fiction dystopia. As evidence, I present "All Together Now: Developmental and Ethical Considerations for Biologically Uplifting Nonhuman Animals," an article published in the Journal of Evolution and Technology. From the abstract:
As the potential for enhancement technologies migrates from the theoretical to the practical, a difficult and important decision will be imposed upon human civilization, namely the issue as to whether or not we are morally obligated to biologically enhance nonhuman animals and integrate them into human and posthuman society. … Through the application of Rawlsian moral frameworks, and in consideration of the acknowledgement of legally recognized nonhuman persons, it can be shown that the presence of uplift biotechnologies will represent a new primary good and will thus necessitate the inclusion of highly sapient nonhumans into what has traditionally been regarded as human society.
"Rawlsian" refers to moonbat navel-gazer John Rawls, who "revitalized the social-contract tradition, using it to articulate and defend a detailed vision of egalitarian liberalism."
Too bad Travis's estate won't be able to sue the cops for using excessive force, which no doubt it would in the future. But then, the "biologically enhanced" animals of the future may be able to hold off the police with machine guns.
Abortion is only the beginning of the horrors liberals have made possible by denying the fundamental difference between humans and animals.

Aw shucks, folks. This has been going on for years. Anybody notice that half of the Senate and most of the Congress is made up of semi sentient creatures who must have at least 30% vampire bat DNA? It isn't a matter of giving them food stamps and letting them vote--not when we elect them and appoint them as judges!

"Abortion is only the beginning of the horrors liberals have made possible by denying the fundamental difference between humans and animals."
You got that right!
Now through embryonic stem cell research, we are consuming our own kind. The only thing missing from a “Progressive” Moonbat is a Grass skirt and bone through the nose! BTW I think we need a new definition for the word progressive.

Maybe I don't want to know, but what is "posthuman society"?

Basically when things get all sci-fi and we start living in a cyberpunk novel. Maybe in a hundred years? Five hundred? Who knows, technology is difficult to predict. This guy is obviously looking way too far ahead; but eventually we could create cybernetic dolphins, say, with human level intelligence. This guy is asking if we should.

If there are no longer any humans about (nor human consciousness), what is the point?
Forgive me, I am just a rock-headed geologist.

Yes SnowSnake, I would have to agree with you on that. Henry Waxman has to be at least 85% vampire bat (just look at it)...

Progressivism lays claim to the advancement of the human intellect for the betterment of society. Things that qualify as enlightened 'progress' to the leftist mind:
*Abortion
*Unfettered science
*Atheism
*Evolution
*Equality not liberty
*Tolerance not truth
*Fairness not justice
*Relativism not order
*Coercion not freedom
*Cleverness not wisdom
*Collectivism not individualism
*Compassion not action
*Entitlements not responsibility
*Revisionist history
*Environmentalism
*Secularism
*Pacifism
*etc
Backward conservatives just don't have the intellectual capacity necessary to understand that these things are illuminated progress for mankind. Shame on us for foreseeing the potential negative consequences of 'progress'.

Just because you CAN do something, that doesn't mean you SHOULD.
(I wish I knew where I heard that)
HE WHO BREAKS THAT LAW GOES BACK TO THE HOUSE OF PAIN!

Not to worry unduly. Those who write sentences like "Through the application of Rawlsian moral frameworks, and in consideration of the acknowledgement of legally recognized nonhuman persons, it can be shown that the presence of uplift biotechnologies will represent a new primary good and will thus necessitate the inclusion of highly sapient nonhumans into what has traditionally been regarded as human society" are absolutely incapable of action, including the creation of "highly sapient nonhumans." They are far too fond of the musical sound of their own voices.

Never fear! This has already happened in reverse. This man has "transformed himself (supposedly) into a "tiger" ... lived down the road a bit from where I used to live (he lives in Guatay, CA about 50 miles east of San Diego, up in the mountains). A few years ago was whining in the San Diego Union Tribune about how he was having difficulty finding a job. Gee, I can't imagine why?

KHarn --Here is your quote:
"To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it"
and another,
"We are learning to do a great many things...The next great task will be to learn not to do them"
Both quotes by the 20th century's most neglected writer, (happily now being rediscovered), whose words ring truer today than when they were written 100 years ago:
G. K. Chesterton

Never let me lend anything to you. After all, when you're done with it, what's the point?
