Stealth Health?

Rush Limbaugh may have been the first to go public with a feature of the stimulus bill buried deep in its 778 pages that is more consequential for Americans’ health than any other part of that monumental proposal.

The plan is to begin rationing medical care ala the U.K system in which patients are evaluated and a government bureaucrat determines if and when medical treatment is necessary.

“The bill’s health rules will affect ‘every individual in the United States’ (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. . . . One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. This afternoon (Tuesday, 2-10-09) Sen. Arlen Specter (nominally, a PA. Republican) told Fox News, “We are not going to let the federal government monitor what doctors do.”

Specter, one of only three Republicans to succumb to pressure and vote for Obama’s pork-laden, nearly-trillion dollar stimulus bill added, “This is one of a number of provisions that has popped up that we have to revise and be very careful about.” ...

Interpreting the News: Stimulus Or Boondoggle?

So much news, so little time. So much deception, so little truth.

“News” of its very nature should not require interpretation. If it’s news, it should be factual, unvarnished, and objective. Regrettably, politicians of their very nature, wallow in shading the facts and/or lie outright about what is fact and, aided and abetted by disgraceful excuses for a mainstream media, often get away with it, at least if they are lib politicos.

Take the stimulus bill. As Rodney Dangerfield may have said, Please!

This record-setting boondoggle continues on its merry way through congress, thanks to the 3 RINO’s, Republicans In Name Only, Senators Specter, Snowe, and Collins, and now goes to conference with the House.

Specter, who was shocked, shocked, I tell you, over the presence in the stimulus of a stealth feature that would allow government lackeys to decide the type and extent of health care Americans would receive, (See “Stealth Health,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=815). When clued in, he said, ““This is one of a number of provisions that has popped up that we have to revise and be very careful about.”

Of course, it didn’t pop up at all. He just didn’t read the damned thing. Now, just hours after expressing that concern, he’s whistling a different melody and has become more carefree. Meanwhile, back at the White House, the Stimulator in Chief lays it on thick and heavy for passage of his bill, suggesting that if you’re not wit’ me, yer ag’in me on this and then you’re nothing but lousy, rotten, SOB obstructionists and you all suck!

What the whole so-called stimulus bill will actually do is now being downplayed.

It’s been touted as a jobs bill. America needs more jobs, and not just because GM has announced thousands of layoffs to comply with government demands for re-structuring. But, how many jobs will it create? Two million? Three million? None?

Recall that Obama has said it will create or save millions of jobs, which essentially meant that if no concrete figures on new jobs can be manufactured, the president can always say, “Yeah, but look how many we saved!” Needless to say, “saved” jobs are not quantifiable.

Obama’s Democrat cohorts are already backtracking on the issue of job creation. In the words of Sen. Max Baucus, (D. MT),

“That’s very hard to get nailed down, of course,” he said, “but it certainly passes the smell test.”...
