Newsweek Declares Cold War Victory

If you thought the Cold War ended when the Soviet Union collapsed, check out the current cover on Newsweek:

newsweek-cover-we-are-all-socialists.jpg

Reagan didn't save us after all. But despite the moonbat media's wishful thinking, the Land of the Free isn't dead yet.

On a tip from J.

I didn't think that was serious at first. It is!

Rush is gonna go to town tomorrow...

Posted by: Air2air at February 10, 2009 2:04 PM

Okay half my family died fighting for the democracy we have and trying to stop communism. So now we just willingly become a socialist state. Whn my g-g-g grandaddy dies at th Battle of Port hudson, I dont think he ever conceived that we would just throw away our freedom.

Posted by: FreeThinker at February 10, 2009 2:14 PM

Wait untill the "comrads" are standing in food lines without all the "kewl stuff" that the free enterprise system brings.

Posted by: KHarn at February 10, 2009 2:30 PM

Again, Newsweek has neglected to check it's sources. Just because the government is giving a socialist party doesn't mean everyone plans to attend.

Posted by: Lord Crimson at February 10, 2009 2:31 PM

Who the hell is "we"? I damn sure isn't "me".

Posted by: single stack at February 10, 2009 2:36 PM

there's the tricky word "we". How many years before "I" is considered illegal?

Posted by: metalgarth at February 10, 2009 2:47 PM

I meant to write It damn sure isn't "me".

"How many years before "I" is considered illegal?"

Was "Anthem" prophetic?

Newsweak!

Posted by: D,King at February 10, 2009 3:19 PM

I'm with Air2air, I thought this was a parody! Note that Newsweek can barely hide its glee that we are poised to become "more like Europe", as though that is a goal everyone should strive towards. Personally, I strive to be more American, and I'm sure it would come as a terrible shock to the ignorant New Yorkers (but I repeat myself) at Newsweek that much of America feels the same way. Let Europe strangle itself with high taxes, poor services, stagnant economies, and the impending loss of its individual identities though the EU and "multiculturalism". Let Africa kill itself through continual corruption and decades of bloody revolution. Let Asia (most of it) do the same, for the same reasons. Let America continue to be the best in the world at what it does, and screw the rest of them. They don't need to live with the consequences of the course our government is taking now, but we do.

Actually, scratch that, because they do need to live with it. America buys all their stuff (Europe and Asia, anyway). America supplies economic might, manufacturing capacity, and innovation in virtually every facet of human endeavor. America also provides protection, or at least backup, to many other countries against foreign aggression. Shackle that, and the rest of the world suffers along with us, making their continuing clamor for America to adopt such policies all the more bizarre. I guess they think that doing this will "level the playing field" and give their own countries a leg up in the global economy. I think they'll find that if a rising tide lifts all boats, an ebbing tide has the opposite effect.

Posted by: CoderInCrisis at February 10, 2009 3:33 PM

Wow - weren't we told by The One that we would NOT be socialists. Are any of the working class Reagan dems who voted this clown into office having second thoughts now? Like the guy with the gun who made an ad for Obama?

Stocks tumble after bailout announcement
Stocks slumped today, with the Dow ending at a three-month low, as the government's bank rescue plan failed to reassure investors burned by the 14-month old recession. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 382 points, or 4.6 percent, according to early tallies. The bailout plan "was a huge disappointment," one economist told CNNMoney.com.

Wasn't it the MSM that was laughing at us for saying Obama would take us to socialism?

I mean, wasn't it like 2-3 months ago that we were being derided as paranoid, delusional conspiracy theorists? Because we said "If Obama is elected, the US will become socialist"?

Posted by: mega at February 10, 2009 4:11 PM

Weren't all of us roundly ridiculed for saying that Chairman 0 was a socialist during the campaign?

There is a great visual diagram of where the stimulus is going to be spent over at Left Right News http://www.leftrightnews.com. Left Right News does a good job of posting the latest breaking headlines and it seems to have a conservative bent to it.

We can't just let this happen.

Posted by: Adam at February 10, 2009 4:40 PM

There is no going back...for us OR them. We're in the fight for our lives, but at least the enemy is now outed.

NO MORE BULLSHIT. NO MORE EUPHEMISMS. NO MORE "BI-PARTISAN".

They're OUTED. They are SOCIALISTS. They want to overthrow the U.S. government, capitalism and free enterprise.

Instead of shaking hands (unless it is symbolic of OUR socialists making nice with Russian or European socialists) it should be the erect middle finger.

LIVE FREE OR DIE.

Posted by: matt at February 10, 2009 4:41 PM

Hundreds of economists agree: Pres. Obama is a damn liar.

(I could have told you that for free.)

Posted by: The MaryHunter at February 10, 2009 4:50 PM

I'm just glad that McCain isn't president. His lack of guiding principals would have him doing the same thing as Obama and republicans would have it around their necks for decades.

Posted by: Matt at February 10, 2009 4:55 PM

This is the headline story at http://www.leftrightnews.com Sad state of affairs for this once great country.

Posted by: Tim at February 10, 2009 4:55 PM

I thought it was a parody too.

I lived in Europe for many years, and was amused by people bragging about being socialists. They didn't realize that in the US that's like bragging about being a child molester.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at February 10, 2009 5:23 PM

Screw them.

Posted by: Kevin R at February 10, 2009 5:26 PM

Matt said "...I'm just glad that McCain isn't president. His lack of guiding principals would have him doing the same thing as Obama and republicans would have it around their necks for decades."

I could not agree more. I think this all will work out great for us in the end. Note the giant flashlight shining on the Dems now (this cover for example) that was so lacking during the election. Now that the far left is establishment, we have a most entertaining 4 years-long version of the last 3 weeks to look forward to as the MSM gradually goes BDS on them.

If the next 4 years is the cost of educating all the kids out there about Socialism, so be it. I would rather stop the slow creep now at great cost, than 20 years from now at vastly greater cost.

If McCain had won, I agree with Steve. It would be just as bad, and we would not have the luxury of back-seat driving as we do now. This will be fun, I still say.

Posted by: Air2air at February 10, 2009 5:39 PM

That was big "M" Matt about McCain, but I also agree.

IF we can hold onto some semblance of free capitalist democracy, then this will indeed be an object lesson in treachery. I'm hoping for 2010, but it depends on how total the power grab is between now and then. This is the FIRST MONTH. What will we do in six months or a year? Where will we be?

Still, that Newsweek cover is something I'm going to blow up into a poster. I will NEVER EVER EVER let these liars forget this. NEVER AGAIN will I listen to "bi-partisanship" or "reach across the isle". NEVER. They are traitorous liars that have always had this move planned. They CAN NOT SPIN THIS.

Live free or die!

The union forever!

A house divided cannot stand.

Don't Tread On Me!

Posted by: matt at February 10, 2009 6:14 PM

I sincerely thought this was a photoshopped joke when I saw this. Welcome to the New Republic comrades.

Posted by: Matthew at February 10, 2009 6:22 PM

The left is drunk with power, feeling secure in their victory, and believe they are invincible. They are bound to overreach, and when they do the people of this country throw them back out onto the street. At least until another generation passes, at which point we will go through this whole thing again.

I'm with matt on this one - screw bi-partisanship. We stand for our principles, even as our representatives refuse to stand for us.

Posted by: CoderInCrisis at February 10, 2009 6:32 PM

Why don't the trolls post to tell us that everything is OK and we're over-reacting? I pray to God that it's because they are ashamed to admit that we were right and they were wrong.

Look moron trolls, this isn't a football game! Just because "your side won" doesn't mean that that's it, we ALL have to live with the conseqinces! Our futures are at stake, not some stupid trophy.

Posted by: KHarn at February 10, 2009 6:49 PM

Interestingly enough, Even Thomas, the co-author of this article, is the great-grandson of six-time Socialist Party candidate for president Norman Thomas.

The best rebuttal I've seen to this article is here

Posted by: Rob Banks at February 10, 2009 7:17 PM

The real pits of this is that Ronald Reagan demonstrated how to solve a major economic downturn aggravated by inflation and Jimmy Carter.
So we have a model

The even greater pits is that the treasonous mouthbreathers in congress and the senate know this.

Posted by: Fiberal at February 10, 2009 7:24 PM

I am 44, but I would like to ask some of the senior folks here if the situation today is truly the worst ever. I am terrified, but it might well be because we have so much more information and opinion today than we did back then.

Posted by: Air2air at February 10, 2009 7:53 PM

The worst EVER, air? No. The depression and WW2 were worse times in many ways.

BUT...this is the first time that we've actually had a government that feels empowered to openly install socialism and eschew capitalism and the free market place.

You must go back a ways. This has been brewing since the 40's. Remember all that "black listing" and all the "witch hunts" by Joseph McCarthy? The dirty little secret is IT WAS ALL TRUE. Hollywood was (and is) rife with communists and socialists. McCarthy wasn't wrong, just heavy handed. I know this for a fact, since I live here and have connections with that industry.

We must, as conservatives, stand together now more than ever. This is the turning point. Either "they" will over reach and screw up so bad they'll be marginalized for decades, or they'll prevail and the U.S. will no longer exist as a free representative republic.

It's up to us.

Posted by: matt at February 10, 2009 8:07 PM

...and my point with that little diatribe was that socialists and communists have been working for decades to get to this moment. A "fellow traveler" President, a congress ready and willing to cave in, and a population who want to be coddled by the government (because they don't know better...yet).

Woody Guthry, Pete Seeger...that whole folkie crowd that always scoffed when you called them Reds...well, they WERE. They've been chipping away at freedom for decades. Now that they're in the education system, the legal profession and politics (in a BIG way), we're in deep trouble.

This is treason, and make no mistake. There is a legal punishment for treason. It should (and hopefully will) be used if we ever get back to being the free country we once were.

Posted by: matt at February 10, 2009 8:12 PM

Matt I don't know if you were there, but my impression of WW2 is that the nation was at least united for a great common goal. It reaffirmed the great principles we were founded on. So the spirit was high, unlike today.... Is this accurate?

Posted by: Air2air at February 10, 2009 8:23 PM

This shouldn't come as too big a surprise for folks who knew that Barry O was a card carrying member of the socialist New Party in chicago:

http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-file-41-obama-was-new-party.html

http://texasfred.net/archives/2479

http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194354.php

http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194365.php

This should have received more coverage than it did. But then the MSM wouldn't have been able to balk at accusations that Obama is a socialist.

Posted by: J at February 10, 2009 8:24 PM

Air2air: I've got a few years on you (just hit the big 6-0 last August), and it's certainly been worse (I remember the Carter era well, with mortgages, at least in my part of the country, at around 10% apr -- doubtless it was much worse elsewhere; consumer interest rates in the low 20's (%); unemployment at or around 10%; the "President" holed-up in the White House while the Mullahs ran rampant in Iran; the failed attempt to rescue the hostages [when we clearly should have gone in there and cleaned the place out, right then, instead of making a half-assed effort to look forceful, no fault of the brave men who tried, and died, that terrible day; the "Malaise Index," etc., etc.). Like Obama, Carter was a pathetic moron who rose far, far beyond his capabilities, and took the nation down with him when he crashed.

Talk to folks (not easy these days) who survived the Great Depression, subsisting on a few slices of stale bread, if that, maybe a rotten turnip, and water for weeks at a time, losing everything you had worked for your entrie life, absolutely zero prospects for real, gainful employment, early death from malnutrition, etc., ad infinitum -- this, today, is nothing, though the idiots in the Congress and our new Maximum Leader, the Marxist Idealogue, are doing their best to bring the Great Depression II about as quickly as possible (the better to acquire power and control over every aspect of our lives).

Give it another two years, and there will be a clear choice (if the Republicans do the right thing, this time): Vote for the Dhimmicrats and vote for your own demise and that of your children, or vote for a conservative leader (Jindal? Palin? Who knows right now, but he or she is out there) with Reaganesque principles, and begin to reverse our Great Decline into Marxism/Leninism. If it gets as bad as I think it's going to get, the Republicans should win in a 50-state landslide (barring ACORN, et al., newly infused with $4.2 billion, stealing the election on a national scale; with the help of Obama's new Sturm Abteilung, I wouldn't put anything past them).

The two hands of socialism doing a masonic handshake no doubt But the red hand should have the HAMMER and SYCLE and the other the RED STAR

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at February 10, 2009 10:27 PM

McCain wouldnt have been any better? I disagree, because Palin would have been putting him in a head lock if he refused to veto a porkzilla bill like this one.

And McCain, though a wishy washy moderate, actually cares about the future of America and is a real war hero.

Obama on the other hand may not actually be an American.

In any case, its dark days ahead since we are now the Peoples Republic of America. Its only a matter of time before all parties other than the Democratic Party are declared illegal; this will likely happen as the name of the Republican Party will be returned to what it originally was Democratic-Republican Party - then the Republican part will be dropped and the 2 parties merged. What happened in the cheesy movie Death Race 2000 could happen now and the new party will be called the Bi-Partisan (Dems love that word) Party. This will happen after the Whitehouse uses the 2010 Census to crush most of the remaining opposition.

Don't know if anyone remembers that old (1971) Raiders song Indian Reservation but, I'd like to propose alternative words for Conservative Nation (all due respect to the original artists).

They took the whole conservative nation
Put us in camp re-education
Took away our right to life
Our firearms
And the bible life
Took away our native tongue
And taught ebonics to our young
And all the nukes we made by hand
Are now an outsource to Iran

Conservative people
Republican tribe
So proud to live
We will survive

They took the whole conservative nation
Locked us in camp re-education
Though I wear a brown-shirt outside
I’m still part red-man deep inside

Conservative people
Republican tribe
So proud to live
We will survive

And baby someday when libs learn
Conservative nation will return
Will return
Will return
Will return

That isn't a Masonic handshake.

Voting for the republicrats in the early 90s didn't save us and didn't restore Liberty because the republicrats aren't interested in restoring Liberty.

And this is a REPUBLIC not a damn democracy. Read the damn constitution, as flawed as it obviously is for allowing all this garbage.

Political activism may make some difference but in the end it will take a bloodletting to fix this collection of nation states.

So the people most responsible for Barack H. Obama -- the media -- are now outright admitting the socialist agenda?

After characterizing John McCain and Sarah Palin as "racist" for saying that Barack H. Obama is a socialist?

Or am I mis-reading this?

Posted by: mandible claw at February 11, 2009 11:53 PM

Oh, right. Reading the article, it's apparently the conservatives/Republicans that are responsible for socialism, and liberals are pissed about it.
