Moonbat Radio Flops Again

No wonder Democrats are so gung-ho about the Unfairness Doctrine, which would coerce radio stations to feature left-wing talk show hosts even if no one wants to listen to them. Two weeks into the Age of Obama, and already DC's WWRC OBAMA 1260 has been forced to change format because radio listeners get enough moonbattery from print and TV. The Washington Compost reports:

President Obama may be riding high in Washington, but OBAMA 1260 is not.
The area's only progressive talk station is changing formats, dropping such syndicated liberal hosts as Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and Bill Press in favor of financial news, starting next week.
The move by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who purchased the station, WWRC, and others in Washington last summer, leaves the city without a liberal radio outlet. Program Director Greg Tantum says he thought the station could work because of enthusiasm over Obama, but that ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election.
But ratings nearly doubled, he says, at Snyder's conservative station, WTNT, which features Laura Ingraham and Bill Bennett.

As NewsBusters points out, there are other liberal talk stations in DC, namely NPR affiliate WAMU and the even wackier Pacifica station WPFW. But WWRC is the only one competing as a commercial station. Its predictable failure illustrates why liberals' hatred of free markets is particularly intense when it comes to radio.

On a tip from AC.

Why would anyone need to turn to AM radio for the liberal viewpoint? There's already ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, the NY Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times......

"...has been forced to change format because radio listeners get enough moonbattery from print and TV."

That, as well as Geronimo, hit the nail right on the head. The reason conservative radio does so well is radio is the ONLY place you can find the truth. You can tune into the liberal lies all day on normal TV programming and news papers.

I think the reason why conservative radio works is because radio is something you can listen to while you are working. Conservatives work.

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?

I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat - whoah - radio

I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about some Moonbat Messiah
I understand just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle

I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio
I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio

I wish I was in Tijuana
Eating barbequed iguana
I'd take requests on the telephone
I'm on a wavelength far from home
I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?

I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio
I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio

Radio radio... Radio radio... Radio radio...
I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio
I'm on a Moonbat radio. I'm on a Moonbat, whoa-Oh, radio
Radio radio... What does he say ?

During the election, WTNT was called McCain-570 and WWRC went by Obama-1260. They even had silly cross-promotional ads on each station, selling them as a pair of partisan stations and the pace to go for supporters.

This coda is all too appropriate. The election is over. The fluff is gone. The shine is off of The One.

I've tried to listen to NPR a few times and I can tell you, it's not just the Liberals views, it's that Liberal radio is BORING! The local Liberals station tried to lure in listeners by broadcasting a NASCAR report and a fishing show, but it was just too boring to listen to for more than five minutes. I've checked back durring those time-slots, but they now have the same, dull Liberals pep-talks.

One of the problems with Liberals on radio is that they lack the HUMOR and CONVICTION of Conservative hosts. Liberals seem devoid of humor (As evidenced by internet posts) and only sound convincing when they are hurling abuse at some one.

Why do these moonbats need to implement the "Unfairness Doctrine" for just talk radio? Why, for example, should a Country Western Music station not be forced to include Gangsta Rap in order to be "fair" to Gangsta Rap listeners? Or maybe a Christian radio station should give air time to atheists like Howard Stern. Or maybe an English language station should be required to air segments in Spanish ... and while we're at it, why not also have Hmong, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, and every other language known to mankind ... uh, sorry, we'll need some segments for whale bellows, too, to keep the greenies happy.

See, the thing is that no radio station should be required to transmit anything but that which it was chartered for. People have choice already to tune in to their favorite music stations, their own language formats, and their preferred political commentaries. If the moonbats want to listen to moonbattery, they should support their own damn stations. If moonbat radio can't make it on its own, that's no concern of the rest of us who want to listen to conservative talk radio.

And, if "fairness" is the objective, why stop at conservative talk radio? Why not also force liberal mainscream media to include the conservative viewpoint? Can you imagine the New Yuck Times being forced to print Ann Coulter?

Of course, even if they decided to force the liberal media outlets to make space for conservative voices, I'd oppose it on principle. The government isn't supposed to be messing with the First Amendment.

If you've actually listened to Radio Pacifica (it's KPFA out here) your brain would turn to mush because of all of the complete moonbattery involved. To know where it's coming from, the studios are in Berkeley. Need I say more?

Flaccid, whimpering, whining leftists who only know victim-hood and character assassination are not the stuff of successful radio shows (or successful ANYthing, for that matter).

"O"s favorables are falling already...and fast...so it won't be long now before the MSM starts the 24/7 "boost Obama" mantra. It, too, will fail.

Obama = Britney or Paris. Good to gawk at for a very short time, then reality dawns and the gild is off the lily. He's all bun and no burger. But we here at MB already knew that.

This just in:
"In a last ditch effort to help Democrat lawmakers pass the Fairness Doctrine for broadcast radio, President Obama has declared that those conservative talk radio stations that carry Rush Limbaugh, would now be able to balance out by playing Sam Cook, Marvin Gaye, and a some Isaac Hayes, but not too much.
That is all.

Posted by: Mockingbird at February 3, 2009 3:26 PM

Mockingbird, that would actually be a good thing compared to the crap they want to put on there. Do we really want stations to be forced to air Al Franken?

Posted by: Anonymous at February 3, 2009 4:00 PM

I'm all for the Fairness Doctrine. If they want to shove their stuff down our throuts, they shouldn't be suprised when a conservitve is elected and does the same to them.

"The move by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who purchased the station, WWRC, and others in Washington last summer, leaves the city without a liberal radio outlet."

Except for NPR...

First time through, I thought the guy's name was "Tantrum."

Lefties argue the "Fair"ness Doctrine from the same POV as they argue everything else.

"Those are the people's airwaves and they should be returned to the people." Yes, they really say this and think that it makes sense.

/Ever noticed that any given leftie's idea of what 'the people' must have, is very, very similar to what they want personally for themselves?

"If the moonbats want to listen to moonbattery, they should support their own damn stations. If moonbat radio can't make it on its own, that's no concern of the rest of us..."
Which is precisely why we have NPR stations in the first place. You and I pay for that drivel to be aired, remember. This is also why they're constantly airing pledge drives and other beg-a-thons. Nobody cares enough about the crap they feature to bother sending cash, and the "government guilt money" that keeps them on the air in the first place isn't much...
