Education Fail
Maybe schools should ease up on the victim studies and go back to teaching math.
On a tip from Lyle.

That wheat-back penny is not only an antique, it's worth more than 1 cent in its copper content alone. So in the picture above, $0.01 = 2¢

These people vote.

I wonder for whom they vote?

I would have gone insane and started throwing stuff.

This was a dispute between the XKCD guy and Verizon, because they had overcharged him exponentially for his service and broken the contract. He spent 45 minutes trying to go over this endlessly, and they never. got. it.
So he got his last laughs and sent them this check: http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=4059&highlight=verizon+check
I don't nkow if they finally got the message.

We have Verizon and speaking to their customer service is as painful as this recording shows. I'm not a math major either but I sure as hell know the difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents. Just goes to show our education system is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The ditz who says "it's obviously a difference of opinion" whether $0.002 equals 0.002 cents is the epitome of the idiot liberal who thinks even math is a matter of opinion.

You got that right V the K. Every time I have a discussion with a liberal and they end up in an illogical or factually incorrect position (which is pretty much every time), they often resort to the "difference of opinion" escape. My favorite is when I say something verifiable like "Obama is breaking his campaign promise by appointing lobbyists" and the moonbat says: "Well, that's your opinion!"

Well you see, math in modern education, isn't about right and wrong answers, it's how you 'feel' about the answer. Logical thinking is not required. It just isn't fair to point out a wrong answer that may damage a child's self esteem or an adult's inner child.

Is it more frightening that these people are employed... or that I'm not shocked in the least by this?

We had PhD level people come in for interviews that had no competence at all in their field. Secretaries interviewed for jobs as secretaries and yet they could not type or speak on the phone. We had college graduates apply who could not write a coherent sentence if their life depended on it.
Out of frustration, I once hired an older person I found who was pumping gas for a living. She spoke well and seemed responsive to questions. She had gone to school when they still taught English and math. She was very good in the laboratory and kept excellent notes as compared to some of the recent graduates. Had she been the one to receive a call like this, she would have said after a little chuckle, "Yes, I see. I'll get it fixed. Thank you. Have you any other questions?"
There is ample evidence that the NEA agenda of destroying this country is more than half completed.

In 1999, NASA lost the Mars Climate Orbiter due to not paying attention to units. Seems they are not alone
All my math instructors preached, “Units, units, UNITS! Write the units on your work.”
