I just so happen to see this guy on CNN or ABC a couple of nights ago, talking head interview, discussing the bailouts, etc. I saw him say "we need to get this money out to the people who are hurting on their mortgages, who can't pay them, etc". Got very upset. I **PAY** MY MORTGAGE! WTF.

Though most were also opposed to slavery that was a distant second as a motivation. Nevertheless the end result was the end of slavery in America; for the most part - it still existed in a lesser form for decades after the war.

You're right for the most part, BUT the South believed that THE CONSTITUTION was "the union" and Bew England had been violating it for decades before secession. Look up Daniel webster's 1850 Capon Springs speach were he declaired that since the NORTH no longer upheld it's part of the Constitution, the South was under no obligation to uphold it's part. Yet it was the SOUTH that compromised and gave in to Yankee demands for decades to hold the union together.
