Moonbattiest Quotes of 2008

2008 produced a bumper crop of moonbattery, as can be seen at Right Wing News, which has collected the year's 40 most obnoxious quotes. A few of the notables:

"I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg." — "Journalist" Chris Matthews
"Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks." — Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Sarah Palin
"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system." — George Bush
"We'll be eight degrees hotter in ten, not ten but 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals." — Ted Turner
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change." — Michelle Obama
"I realized almost within a minute, I don't have to apologize for my country when I'm abroad. I can say, 'I belong to a great country,' and there are Europeans who say, 'Aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? Aren't you glad you're here in Britain?' I mean, I've been on the defensive so long. But this time I can say, 'I am an American, look at us, look at what we've just achieved.' — Maya Angelou on Obama's election
"The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person…" — Barack Obama
"At least half of the [Ten] Commandments are stupid!" — Bill Maher
"Should I be worried about being a slave, about being returned to slavery because certain things happened in the Constitution that you had to change?" — Whoopi Goldberg to John McCain
"If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration." — Al Gore

Unfortunately these are not the ravings of obscure maniacs, but of very powerful and influential maniacs, whose unhinged gibbering is taken seriously by untold millions of gullible fools. Thus our new President Elect.

That wasn't a thrill Chrissy boy. Bet ya' feel that a lot.

Chris has been made fun of so much for that (he calls it "criticism"), I wonder if he stops and thinks "well, maybe that was over the top."
Nah.

My vote for moonbattiest is Ted Turner.

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system." — George Bush

That rate right up there with "I voted for it before I voted against it."

The comments made by these powerful people, comments they truly believe, are simply their way of showing just how weak-minded and brain-dead the American people have become. We have in fact, allowed ourselves to become a nation of fools!

"Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks." — Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Sarah Palin

Is it just me or does the poor construction of this sentence annoy the crap out of you? I'm embarrassed that anyone can make their way into being a congressman while speaking this Ebonics bullshit. I'm just so sick of seeing and hearing the English language butchered.

AWESOME-9:49 word :-)
How they can say "it dont" blows my mind. I work with the "educated" and get email all the time with text lingo. Lotsa education gettin in the way of learnin. Phd's using double negatives. SHEEEEEEEESH!!!
Civil disobiedence, ya mean like taking casa de algore and making a pristine nonpolluting back to nature experiment outta it? Do your part.

Posted by: czuch at January 7, 2009 11:48 AM

It's not just you, Mixtape. I'm also appalled that a person can make it into congress, and stay put, by being as dumb as a box of rocks. And flunking Econ 101.

I would love to see most in congress having a resume that boasts building a successful business from the bottom up. I don't even care whether or not he went to college.

Come on ladies and gents.. You don't think Ebonics is "MO BETTA" way to communicate. Come down south where I "STAY" and you will here the butchering of American English.

Watching, et al...

No kidding. I do remote support & was speaking earlier to a woman in Shreveport (a store manager, manager, mind you... and I couldn't understand a single word of the last sentence she said.

Another called wanting us to turn off "detectible motion" (that's what the call in help-desk said), and when I spoke to her she said the same thing to me. I thought, 'what, like motion sensors?', until I realized that she wanted to turn off the turkey promotion.

This country was based on merit and ability once. I don't know what to make of it now.

Bill Maher BORN A SMART INFANT BECAME STUPID FROM HIS LIVING IN STUPIDVILLE

Posted by: SPURWING PLOVER at January 7, 2009 12:30 PM

hiram,

The word should have been "hear" not "here" can't type some times. I live in Memfrica (Memphis) Tennesse. There are three toungues spoken "HEERA"

1--english

2--ebonics(memfrican)--Majority

3--spanish--catching up

The african american community has invented theit own language and the left approves. If you would like to "AX" any "Querstions" let me know. I work around this lingo and laugh at the people when they try to talk intellegently. "TRUE DAT MAIN"

Posted by: Wathing at January 7, 2009 2:47 PM

having a hard time today "THEIR" NOT "THEIT" however you could use, in that sentance, THEY. It would fit in just fine here in memfrica

30) "Ultimately, I think the United States is a pretty awesome country but it very plausibly would have been even awesomer had English and American political leaders in the late 18th century been farsighted enough to find compromises that would have held the empire together." -- Matthew Yglesias

The only "compromises" that would have prevented American independance was the PRESERVATION OF OUR RIGHTS AS ENGLISH SUBJECTS. Anyone who had bothered to study (No matter how casually) American and English history would know this.

Spurwing, I'm not sure if "Stupid" is necessarily the right word to describe Bill Maher. Here are several other words that definitely do describe him, though:
1. Heartless
2. Cynical
3. Mean- spirited
4. Hate- filled
5. Egotistical
6. Bigoted
7. Cowardly
8. Repulsive
Speaking of repulsive, the quote which angered me the most was probably Roseanne Barr's hideous remark about Sarah and Bristol Palin. In the decades that horrible woman has been a celebrity (Or near enough to one, anyway), she appears to be constantly eager to find new ways to show the rest of the world what a crude, vile human being she is.

I was friends with a fellow who spoke or at least understood at least 5 languages. His English was really terrible, but over time I learned to interpret what he was saying and we could communicate. One day he brought some buddies of his over that were from his home country and they spoke his home country language. They couldn't understand him and he told me in English what he was trying to tell them and I translated his sounds into English his friends could understand. It turned out he had a badly deformed mouth and a defective tongue and couldn't actually speak any language well enough to be understood unless you had been around him long enough to break the code for the sounds he was making. His pride had kept him from letting me know this.

Like anything else about people, with speech there can be a physical reason for that which you perceive to be a deficiency--it may not be mental.
