Harry Reid: Tax System Is Voluntary
Excellent news — according to Harry Reid, our tax system is voluntary:
Now the bad news — it's only voluntary if you are a powerful Democrat like Charles Rangel, the tax cheat who oversees the committee that writes tax laws, or Tim Geithner, the even bigger tax cheat who will soon be in charge of the IRS.
On a tip from The MaryHunter.

This is the guy that Schumer, Dodd, Feinstein, and maybe Franken as well as others will follow like pull toys on wheels as he pulls the strings tied to vulnerable parts of their anatomies. This is the Senate. They are the majority. The Senate is what protects us from really bad ideas Obama might have.
Sleep well, America.

This is the video that brought me to the conclusion some time ago that Harry Reid is an idiot. And I don't mean that so much as a insult but rather an actual observation of his mental ability.

Is he really that stupid or is it that he thinks we are?

single stack: Yes, and Yes.

And to think that many of us work three months of the year to 'voluntarily' send our money to fund this quality of governance.
Posted by: IOpian at January 23, 2009 11:28 AM
Ah, now this might be different understandings of "voluntary". It has subtly different meanings depending on the context. Obviously Reid is talking from the position of "voluntary" as in "you volunteer the information that lets us work out how much money we're going to take", whereas the interviewer means voluntary in the sense of "you volunteer whether you're going to pay". I think they should clarify this rather than leaving it so ambiguous.
Is taxation a choice? The answer is, no, taxation isn't a choice. So, that being said, how can some people, in positions of authority over the tax regime, get away with not paying their taxes?

As Bush has taught us, you can always achieve victory by redefining what victory means.

Well put Archonix.
Reid: Typical quibbling liberal douche.

As Bush has taught us, you can always achieve victory by redefining what victory means.
And as Clinton taught us, you can get out of anything be redefining what "is" means.
I know this is going to be as effective as talking to the cat, but I'm going to give it a try anyway. Can we stop bashing W already? He's out of office, he's going home, and your man won. Can we stop trashing the man now? Yes, he did and said some unwise and ill-conceived things, but that makes him no more or less evil than the next politician. Blaming everything on Bush distracts us from pointing the finger where it belongs: Congress. If anything is Bush's fault it's failing to reign in Congress when they did something stupid. There's a laundry list of stupidity in Congress. And I didn't like W much as a President, either, or Cheney, or most of his staff, but the bile and the hatred is getting a bit old.

What does THAT have to do with anything? PLEASE EXPLAIN.
PS: G. Bush is now out of office. Soon BO will have to fix our problems and if he doesn't, you will be a RAAAACIST!! if you criticize him or the government.

Umm, can we get a video of Biden talking about how paying taxes is partiotic and how everyone needs to chip in their fair share, to contrast and compare with Harry Reid's words?

Theu can't get over Bush. It's not in their genes. Liberals are like women. If you argue with them they bring up someting from ten years ago. Hell, they just came out with a new Nixon bashing movie and the son of a bitch has been dead for a decade.
Posted by: JohnC. at January 24, 2009 7:50 AM
@Henry: Hah, so under that regime taxes wouldn't be "voluntary" even by Reid's definition.
Irony much?

...and the democrat party does not steal elections(a la Franken) with fraudulent ballots...
...and the new president willingly shared 100% of his biographical information with the electorate...
...and it's a BRAVE NEW WORLD...
...and the moon is made of blue(bleu, for the multicultural) cheese...
...Cheers!...

How incredibly evil this creature is. I'd like to tie it down and start on its extremities with a Louisville slugger and with each blow ask it "Is this voluntary because I'm allowing you to scream?!!!"
We need "Liberal" season. We need it now. We needed it 70 years ago.
When are the MEN of this country going to reach down and grab their balls and stiffen their backbones and go to the District of Criminals and do what MUST be done????!!!!
Don't understand? Start here:

Then watch the movie "Michael Collins" for what will be forced upon us.

Scary Harry Reid what kind of new tax increeses dose he have planned for us?
Posted by: Spurwing Plover at January 24, 2009 8:38 AM
One good thing about Reed, unless he can ensure LOTS of PORK for Vegas and S. Nevada, he is out the next time he is up for re-election.
The Vegas crowd are loosing their Asses in this economy and they, not unlike 2 generations ago, are a pack of wolves in businessman's clothing. They are not so dumb as the adv US Democratic Party Idiot and will un-ass him if he ups their taxes.

IOpain is correct. Reid is talking about the system under wich we pay our taxes. That is in fact voluntary, even the Supreme Court says so
"Our tax system is based upon voluntary assessment and payment and not upon distraint." (Flora v. United States, 362 U.S. 145, 175. - 1960).
Which means you determine what you owe. That's what Reid was talking about.

Hairy Reid here really should have hd that little pimply thing on his schwantz taken care of back in 66. Now he is crazy as an outhouse rat.
