Deranged by Greed, Flight 1549 Passengers Want to Loot US Airways

This is what the liberal culture of free money and entitlement has reduced us to:

Many US Airways (LCC) passengers who endured a crash landing in the Hudson River 12 days ago say they appreciate the $5,000 that the airline has offered — but some say it's not enough.
Joe Hart, a salesman from Charlotte who suffered a bloody nose and bruises, says he "would like to be made whole for the incident."
It's too soon after the accident to determine what emotional distress he has suffered, he says.

That is, Hart's lawyer is still trying to figure out how many $millions to demand for his bloody nose, after the airline saved his life with the miraculous river landing.

No doubt PETA will now sue on behalf of the geese that brought the plane down.

You know, I had a weak but detectable hope that this wouldn't happen. Then again, I had the same hope about not getting the Immaculator in Chief as president.

They should tell him to go sue the goose.

Posted by: Kevin R at January 28, 2009 10:34 AM

If he wants to be "made whole" couldn't they just throw him back in the river?

Posted by: scaramouche at January 28, 2009 10:41 AM

Sadly, I saw this coming. An hour after the landing they were talking about what a hero that pilot was, and I said to my wife, they are going to sue the shit out of that pilot and US Air, and there will be nothing left of his career when the lawyers are done. Well, this is phase I, suing US Air. The pilot is next. I hate even typing that because it's so repulsive, but it's true.

Posted by: mega at January 28, 2009 10:44 AM

I'm with scaramouche, catch and release. And throw in the lawers.

Posted by: JohnC. at January 28, 2009 10:45 AM

Does this really suprise anyone? Most Americans view lawsuits as the ticket to big $$$$$.

Posted by: Anonymous at January 28, 2009 11:05 AM

As per a MB article yesterday: Using The Law As A Weapon.

Capt. Sully is a hero (or more correctly, and American Air Force Pilot. Same thing, actually.) Anyone that sues him has a special place in hell. I would vilify those people publicly, both lawyers AND clients.

We are going to sue and sue and sue until NO one will want to run an airline, produce a car...basically sell ANY product or service. Why bother? You'll just wind up in court.

This was not what the law was intended to do. REFORM THE COURTS NOW!

Posted by: matt at January 28, 2009 11:11 AM

I had a bloody nose once. It certainly didn't cost me $5000.....just a few tissues.

The immediate focus of AAJ’s White House lawsuit czar would be “pre-emption.” The class-action lawyers want to make sure Obama makes good on a campaign promise to reverse the recent trend among federal regulators to pre-empt – i.e. supersede - state jurisdiction on consumer safety regulation, particularly in the areas of transportation and prescription drugs. The class-action lawyers want to be able to file 50 separate class-action suits against an alleged corporate sinner instead of just one in federal court.

mega said "I hate even typing that because it's so repulsive" I know how you feel, and I hated reading it, too. Does society never rise up?

I was touched by Sully's honor ceremony. He refused to have a parade, and he spoke for 8 seconds or so. Contrast that to the adulation that The One needed.

One of the differences between the liberal and conservative minds is that liberals believe that tough experiences break you, and conservatives believe that tough experiences strengthen you.

One says that you're hurt and you're a victim who needs the help of experts to ease your pain; the other says you're hurt and you're a self-reliant person who can stand stronger and wiser for it as an exceptional individual.

If you're going to sue someone, sue the damn Canadians! It was THEIR Geese that caused the problem in the first place. Then sue the enviro nit wits that force us to endure the giant flocks of those filthy flying crap machines. ( The don't call them foul for nothing! ) You want to be made whole asshat? Call your Congressman and make those geese fair game.

"No doubt PETA will now sue on behalf of the geese that brought the plane down."

Yeah. I'm sure there is a way to blame this on those damn Conservatives, too.

Time for a bunch of those miserble trial lawyer vultures to get sucked into a jetliners engine and shredded to itsy bity pieces

Sue PETA

Posted by: JamesJ at January 28, 2009 1:43 PM

I agree. Throw that asswipe into the river.

Posted by: Corona at January 28, 2009 2:09 PM

He wants to be make whole?

(Dare we ask the rhetorical question of what he's missing???? Fill in the blank...______)

A red-hot poker shoved up the nostrils would cuaterize and stop the bleeding soon enough.

Sounds about appropriate for this "hole" person.

Posted by: Chris at January 28, 2009 2:10 PM

Not nearly everyone on that flight is asking for some money. Apparently its lawyers and special interest groups that are sniffing money and pushing this with a few passengers maybe. I have to think that the vast majority of people are well meaning and feeling just damn lucky to be alive. Comments on liberals agreed; the entitlement mentality has to end.

Posted by: Pete at January 28, 2009 2:14 PM

Can anyone think of a profession more parasitic than that of a trial lawyer?

Beautiful.

you know that passenger that said "I want to be whole again".

If I was the airline, I would ask him "what limb did you lose?"

Posted by: Pete at January 28, 2009 3:18 PM

US Air should NOT give him $5000. Instead, they should send him a letter saying "see you in court, Mr. a-whole". Then drag out the proceedings for years and years, then offer to settle out of court for 500 bucks. Teach the puke a lesson.

Posted by: rick at January 28, 2009 3:35 PM

All these losers looking to hit the lottery with a lawsuit.

Heck, I would've felt guilty about taking the $5,000 but I'd take it knowing I got lucky twice thanks to US Air.

Survivors of air accidents have statistically better mental health than the general population.

Richard,
Chief Pilot of a small air operator

Posted by: Richard at January 28, 2009 5:54 PM

Richard:

That's what we call a co-relation.

It's equally accurate to say that people who can /afford/ air tickets have statistically better mental health.

I know, I'm nitpicking. Sorry.

Posted by: Anonymous at January 28, 2009 6:39 PM

I agree that we should use the law to restore this plaintiff to his "pre-accident" status: strapped into a plummeting plane, heading towards icy water, and crapping his pants. If he lives through the experience again, we offer him $10K and ask him if he'd like to go for "double or nothing."

Posted by: PabloD at January 28, 2009 8:39 PM

Anon: your "nitpicking" would be accurate if 100% of all people who could afford air tickets were also all survivors of air accidents (i.e. if everybody who ever got on a plane was also involved in a crash).

Posted by: PabloD at January 28, 2009 9:21 PM

It is as Shakespear said, "if you want to solve the world's problems, you must first start by killing all the lawyers!"

Posted by: Flame at January 28, 2009 9:25 PM

Any aircraft can crash. Not any airline, or pilot, can save the lives of the passengers on board a doomed aircraft.

Posted by: mandible claw at January 28, 2009 11:06 PM

AND LET US THE FIRST THINGS WE DO LET US KILL ALL THE LAWYERS,WILLIAM SHAKESPEAR And get the book THE RULE OF LAWYERS by WALTER K. OLSON and get a look at some realy evil lawyers

Sue the maker of that stupid movie FLY AWAY HOME with that stupid little hollywood bitch

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at January 29, 2009 10:37 PM

Having had the experience of not one, but two "aircraft vs gravity" contests during Vietnam which I survived due to having superior pilots in the cockpit I can say this: these morons should be paying the airline and in particular this flight crew $5000 each for having saved their greedy little lives and saving them without even getting wet past their knees. Can we say INGRATES? Oh, and by the way...well done flight crew, outstanding job on a dead stick water landing and evacuating these dollar inspired cattle with no loss of limb nor life.
