A Quarter Million for Wearing Scary Shirt
It sure pays to be an oppressed Religion of Peacenik:
An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded 240,000 dollars in compensation, campaigners said Monday.
Raed Jarrar received the pay out on Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York's JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced.
JetBlue asked him to cover the shirt lest he terrify the other passengers, some of whom might not be too moonbatty to remember 9/11. The ACLU quickly swooped in to make him a rich at the expense of everyone who travels by JetBlue.
This lunacy does more than drive up the price of airline tickets and keep left-wing lawyers and their slimy clients basking in wealth. Apparently the main objective is to punish anything that even smells like a security measure against Islamic terrorists, facilitating the next flight into the side of skyscraper. Anything that weakens America strengthens the ACLU and its allies.

On a tip from Puffdaddy.

I'm speechless. Who in their right mind belongs to the ACLU? It's so wrong on so many levels and so amoral.
Some guy called in to a radio show, saying he had to practically disown his own father, because he'd become a card-carrying loon.

...hmmmmmm...i'm thinking of JUST the right tee - i've got it! back to the drawing board.

I want to get on an Al Arabia flight wearing a tee shirt with a drawing of Mohammed and the text "He's a liar, Jesus says so".
Assuming I got off without being beheaded, I want to see if the ACLU will rush to my defense. Mind you, none of MY actions would instill the fear that an Arabic tee shirt would on a plane full of civilized people. My tee shirt might mean I'm an Infidel. That Arabic shirt might mean "We're flying into Sears Tower and becoming martyrs!" Slight difference.
Enough tolerance. Look at todays headlines. Jews are being targeted in Europe (big surprise considering who lives there now), Al Qaeda is urging attacks on Israel and the U.S., Gaza is ready to explode...and we're still worried about being sensitive and inoffensive.

While I hate the ACLU and its litigation-addicted ways, I'm going to side on the person wearing this tshirt this time.
The whole selling point of the TSA is to protect us from asshats who want to take aircraft over to use as ballistic projectiles. It is the security screener's job to ensure that nobody gets on board with 1) a weapon or 2) flammable/explosive devices. Guess what? That's all I want them to do. If some asshat with "Death to America" written in Arabic on his shirt steps on board and acts like everyone else... I couldn't give a shit. The instant someone starts acting up on MY aircraft (ie, the aircraft that will safely transport me from point A to point B) is the instant that I go into Flight 93 mode and start allowing punks to make my day. The instant some fuckwad starts acting up and rushes a flight attendant, our SECOND line of defense should step in: the Air Marshal Service.
Once our second level of defense has done his/her duty, I would appreciate being transferred to a second flight with minimal delay. I can't enjoy my in-flight meal with dead Jihadist on the floor.

Eoin: I don't see how a dead Jihadist could make most in-flight meals any worse - assuming you're even on an airline that serves one, anymore. But I tend to agree that JetBlue went overboard when it insisted on covering up this guy's t-shirt. The real objectionable fact here is that anyone could make $240K over something this trivial.

I understand the free-speech issue in this case. But a settlement in that amount is insane.

The real problem is this country is full of brain dead morons, from all political persausions, with most being non-political, who are afraid of things they don't understand because they've kept their heads up their asses all their lives.
I noticed people being more visibly upset, or amused in their arrogance, when I wore a 'pro-gun' or militia shirt than the 2 or 3 years I carried openly back in the mid 90s.
If you're packin' a gun openly most of the sheeple don't even notice. If they do they assume you're a cop.
Willful stupidity among the sheeple is one of our biggest enemies.
