William Jefferson Loses a Squeaker

Moonbattery has suffered a surprising setback in New Orleans, which moonbats adopted as their spiritual capital in the wake of Katrina:

A political unknown and a newly minted Republican, [Anh "Joseph"] Cao, 41, became the first Vietnamese American ever elected to Congress on Saturday, with an upset victory over indicted Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, 61, in the general election for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District.

Appallingly, the election was close (49.55% to 46.82%), even against a crook facing 16 federal corruption charges, who subverted Katrina rescue efforts to help him hide evidence of his crimes, and who was caught with $90,000 in his freezer — before being reelected.

Some give credit for Jefferson's long-awaited removal to the stupidity of his supporters, who stayed home because they thought the election was over when he won the Democrat primary runoff on November 4.

But if Blago wants to run for office again when he gets done serving time, he shouldn't let this discourage him. Illinois doesn't hold to the same scrupulous standards as Louisiana.

The number of corrupt moonbats infesting DC is down by one.

On a tip from Andrea.

Obama to give address from a Muslim capital? Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy... Oh yeah, just what the doctor ordered when it comes to convincing everyone he is really a Christian.

"WASHINGTON, (AFP) – President-elect Barack Obama plans to give "a major address" in an Islamic capital soon after taking office as he seeks to mend America's image in the Muslim world, a Chicago Tribune interview said.

That is most certainly the case about the turnout. Congratulations to Cao, anyway. I wish him well. The moonbats should celebrate this diversity (right?)
God, what I would give to have an awakening in this country which demands top-notch ethics from our elected employees, regardless of a simple thing like skin pigment.

Good luck to Cao cleaning up after Jefferson. He has a long road ahead of him. I wish him well too.

Yes, Karin, are the moonbats celebrating this diversity? NO, because he's a Republican.

Jefferson is a Democrat? Another Bush lie! Liar liar!

Cool! I put this in the open thread yesterday. I was happy to hear this. I live in the area (not New Orleans itself). It's a sad commentary on the people in the New Orleans area who kept electing this guy!!

I was in NOLA exactly a year after Katrina, and East New Orleans was STILL completely f*'d up. I was commenting on it to a friend of mine who lives there, and she said, "yeah. Except for the Vietnamese neighborhoods."

Sez I: "Why's that?"

Sez She: "Well, as soon as they could, the Vietnamese got out brooms and hammers and started rebuilding. Everyone else just put up new mailboxes (to get their checks), and proceeded to sit on their asses for the last year."

Andrea, I'm in West Monroe! Watcha doin' for da Mardi Gras?

Posted by: hiram at December 10, 2008 10:58 AM

I go to some parades in Baton Rouge. Sometimes I also go to the smaller towns for some Mardi Gras parades (Thibodeaux, Morgan City, etc.) And I eat a whole lotta King Cake!

I don't go to New Orleans anymore for Mardi Gras. (I used to go in my college days) It's too crowded and crazy for this "old" lady these days!! I'm a teacher, and we're off Monday and Tuesday for Mardi Gras.

What do you "northerners" do for Mardi Gras?

hiram and Andrea: First Piyush Jindal, now Anh Cao -- what the heck's goin' on down there? Love LA, and would consider moving there in light of these stunning (and wonderful) developments, but we (collectively) just put in a Republican-led state house and senate for the first time since Reconstruction, and the Governor (at least for the next two years, when he'll be term-limited), even though a Democrat, is a fairly decent guy (talking Tennessee).

Like Oklahoma and you all ("ya'll"), maybe we, collectively, can still turn this insanity around (gonna take a while, I know), and evict the incoming Marxist administration asap.

Palin/Jindal (or vice versa), in 2012? Sounds good to me!

Andrea;

Pretty much what you do. There's a decent parade here in town that's wild, but not totally nuts like NOLA. I might try to run over to Shreveport this time & see my sister.

jc14;

Let's hope that ObamaCo. takes us to the edge of the cliff, but not over... just far enough to wake people up.

Now all they need to do is to remove that baldheaded buzzard bait RAY(COBRA)NAGIN and clean out the city

Karin, you're forgetting that any prominent citizen of a minority group involved in politics who happens to be a Republican is automatically a "race traitor" or an "Uncle Tom." At least, that's the liberals' standard response to it.
