UNC Axes Christmas Trees
The annual War on Christmas has claimed another casualty — the traditional Christmas trees at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill:
For as long as anyone can remember, Christmas trees adorned with lights and ornaments have greeted holiday season visitors to UNC Chapel Hill's two main libraries.
Not this year.
The trees, which have stood in the lobby areas of Wilson and Davis libraries each December, were kept in storage this year at the behest of Sarah Michalak, the associate provost for university libraries. …
"We strive in our collection to have a wide variety of ideas," she said. "It doesn't seem right to celebrate one particular set of customs."
Never mind that they are OUR CUSTOMS. By the same logic, baseball games should be banned, because they too celebrate the customs of our culture.
No word on how soon the word "Chapel" gets censored from Chapel Hill.

On a tip from Burning Hot.

The response I got when I wrote the Chancellor: "I understand that the Library staff made the decision not to put up a Christmas tree this year after giving it a lot of thought. The university administration doesn’t get involved in decisions like that. Departments can choose to put up a tree or not. And if you take a walk across campus, I think you’ll see that. The façade of Memorial Hall, our major performing venue, is fully decorated for the holiday, and The Nutcracker is its major December attraction. Student Stores is like any retailer this time of year. They have a tree decorated with Carolina ornaments in the window and, in the store, there is a mantel decorated with Carolina stockings. The Student Activities Fund Office has a Christmas tree in its window. There’s a big Christmas wreath with a Carolina-blue ribbon on it in the Student Union. Our own Carolina Inn is again featuring its Twelve Days of Christmas displays throughout the hotel. And just as we have for the last 59 years, our Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is featuring The Star of Bethlehem.
So Christmas is recognized on this campus.
Thanks for your interest in Carolina, and have a joyous Christmas season.
Holden Thorp"

Maybe they shouldn't have a library. It's just a custom of our culture.

If she doesn't want to celebrate Christmas, fine. Make her go to work on Christmas Day.

UNC's Chancellor says the library staff ". . . [gave] it a lot of thought." BS -- they didn't THINK at all, they re-acted to some likely non-existent Muslim complaints about the "infidel tree," in their (that's right, their) library. So, out it goes, and probably forever.
It's called Dhimmitude, you liberal dolts (admittedly, Chapel Hill has long been a Moonbat haven -- or is that "heaven"?). Next time (soon), when they come for your cojones, are you just gonna let them cut 'em off? Probably . . .

So one moonbat hen starts her stupid mindless clucking and the whole bunch caves in? Maybe people should write letters to them urging them dump this stupid annoying moonbat grinch

I'll bet you could find a pretty high correlation between schools doing this kind of stuff, and schools that have a pathetic/non-existent Division 1-A football program.

Speaking of which, I heard just today that a school has tried to ban singing the song 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'.
The reason for this?
Some stupid parent complained that it was religiously offensive because it contained the words "Christmas" and "Santa."
